T H E FOLIC GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. Fill DAY, JULY 15, 1910. VOL. XXVII., No. 2770. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAED, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted ait a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6j. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. G. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8 Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. - 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12 All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post 13. 14. Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. CA M BRIDGES HIRE. 8. — Cambridge ( County). — For stealing two copper coppers ( recovered)— A MAN, age 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., high cheek bones, moustache sandy; wearing dark clothes, brown leather leg- gings with straps. A Scotchman. He is travelling the country on a bicycle and appeare to be stealing brass and copper and disposes of same to Marine Store dealers. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Castle Hill, Cambridge. CA RNA R VONSHIRE. 9.— Carnarvon ( County).— On commitment warrant for non- payment of £ 1 14s., fine and oasts imposed for an offence against the L. & N. W. Railway Regulations at Dinorwic, 29th December, 1909— LEVI TOWERS, age 30, height 5 ft., com- plexion, hair and eyes dark. He travels the country with a cutlery grinding machine. Information to Supt. CHESHIRE. 10.— Birkenhead ( County).— For stealing ( servant) at Great Sutton, 3rd ult., a lady's gold curb chain bracelet, small gold chain attached; 1 gold safety pin brooch, 2 in. long, turquoise in centre, pearl each end; 1 small gold heart shape locket, amethyst and pearls; the above were con- tained in a jewel case, green plush top, silver band ; 1 cretonne dress, cream, fancy neck; 1 lady' 6 long black cloth coat ( velvet collar, straps at back, leather buttons) ; also a quantity of other clothing, furs, boots, & c.— ANNIE FOSTER, alms MARY ANNTE FAIR ALL, Office No. M 10511, age 47, height 5 ft. 3 in., stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair dark, rather hairy on chin. London accent, plausible manner; dress, black skirt, black and white hat trimmed feathers. Sup- posed wearing stolen coat. Was at Chester and London on the date of the theft. Has been con- victed in London of forgery and fraud. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sutherland, Birkenhead. CORNWALL. 11.— Bodmin ( County).— For forging two promissory notes for £ 2,000, 28th December, 1908 — CAPTAIN HUGH WILLYAMS, age 40, height 6 ft., complexion fair, long features, aquiline nose, hair and moustache ( trimmed at ends) light brown, eyes blue, of smart appearance; dress, navy blue or Norfolk suit, cap, sometimes wears yellow leather leggings and breeches. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bodmin. DERBYSHIRE. 12. — Buxton ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a black coat and a white collar and front, at Burbage, 21st ult.— 1T H O M A S FRANCIS MOGER, age 28, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., face freckled and bloated, hair sandy, clean shaved, scar on chin, lower jaw has been fractured, flower and ship right forearm, well educated, London accent; dress, black jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, cap, new light lace boots. Stated he was a Reservist from the Bedfordshire Regiment, that he had served in India and South Africa, also that he had been an asylum attendant at Claybury, Essex. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. James, Buxton. DORSETSHIRE. 13. - Beaminster ( County). — For stealing ( bailee), at Bridport, 27th ult., a bicycle ( re- covered)— L. J. K1NNAIRD, age 25, height 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved; dress, grey striped suit, patch one knee, dark cap, well educated. Gave name of Doyle. Has been em- ployed as a cook on a sailing vessel. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. King, Beaminster. FLINTSHIRE. 14. — Holywell ( County).— For housebreaking and stealing a black serge dress ( partly made); 30 cigars, Lord Kitchener brand; and 15s.— TWO MEN ( 1st, height about 5 ft. 7 in.; dress, light grey suit. 2nd, height about 5 ft. 9 in.; wearing dark morning coat and clogs). Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Holywell. FORFARSHIRE. 15.— Dundee ( City).— For embezzling £ i) 0, between 1st November, 1909, and 15th ult.— GEORGE McINTOSH, age 30, height " 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, bloated face, hair and slight moustache light; dress, light grey tweed suit, black hard felt hat, carried a light grey or fawn colour rainproof coat. A butter and margarine manufacturer's traveller. Absconded 18th ult. May endeavour to go abroad. Warrant issrued. Information to the Chief Constable. Dundee. A haulier; native of Tipperary. Warrant issued. 17.— Treharris ( County). - For stealing a pair of lace boots, hand- sewn; 1 woollen undervest; 1 grey flannel shirt; and a pair of blue socks, at Aberaman— WILLIAM HEAL, age 29, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue, prominent nose. Union Jack, stars and stripes tattooed right forearm ; dress, brown coat and vest, navy blue trousers, blue muffler, black cap, light lace boots. A collier.— ALFRED HEAL, age 27, height 5 ft 4 in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes brown, ship in full sail on chest; dress, blue coat and vest, sailor pattern trousers, black muffler, navy blue cap. A fireman.— SAMUEL HEAL, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, long features, hair brown, eyes blue, serpent and tree right fore- arm ; dress, light grey suit, grey cap, black muffler, heavy nailed boots. Gill, Treharris. 18 — Cardiff ( City).— For contravention of the Aliens Act— WILLIAM HENRY CABEY, a negro, Office No. A 1680, age 33, height 5 ft. 6J in., complexion and eyes dark, hair ( curly) black, mole left cheek, sicar right forearm. A ship's steward or oook; native of the Portuguese Settlement, Straits of Magellan. Was expelled from the United Kingdom 27th May last, and is believed to have returned about 17th ult. To be dealt with where found. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 19.— Northleach ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle ( recovered)— EDWARD BOOTH, alias GILDER, age 27, height 5 ft. 10 in., com- plexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, slight moustache; dress, old pilot coat, brown cord trousers, cap, heavy lace boots, nearly new. A farm labourer; native of Dowdeswell. Absconded 17th ult, Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Northleach. 20.— Bristol ( City).— For embezzlement— WILLIAM CHAFFEY, age 18, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair brown, inclined to curly, cast in left eye, tattooed clasped hands left wrist; dress, brown coat, vest and leggings, cord trousers. Has been em- ployed as a porter at a boot shop, formerly worked in a coal pit. Absconded 16th ult. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested cut of the United Kingdom. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Aldershot ( County).— For deserting his wife and children, leaving them chargeable to tho Farnham Union, 4th inst.— JOHN PATRICK QUINN, age 39, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes brown, clean shaved, varicose veins right leg; dress, black jacket, grey breeches, fawn colour leggings, green cap, carried a dark grey overcoat. A groom or carman. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 22.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing, 30th ult., a gold tabular bracelet; 1 silver- gilt brooch, 1 in. wide; 1 rolled gold muff chain; 1 lady's silver watch, No. 73776; 6 apostle spoons; 6 tea do.; 6 egg do.; 1 5s. piece made into a brooch ; 1 lady's gold brooch, enamelled back, gold snake chain attached; 1 gold locket, picture of gentleman inside; 1 pair plain silver tongs; 1 round gold brooch, acorn in centre; 1 gold brooch, consisting of 4 gold rings joined together— EDITH WILSON, age 34, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion ruddy, sunburnt, long pointed nose, hair cut short, of masculine appearance; dress, crushed strawberry print dress, long white ooat. 23 — Portsmouth ( Jiorough).— For stealing a jacket and £ 5 2s., 3rd inst.— HARRY MASON, age 27, height 5 ft. 7^ in., slight build, complexion fresh, thin features, hair dark brown, slight mous- tache light, eyes blue, front teeth missing, crucifix and 2 women right forearm, dagger, coat of arms, butterfly, flower and " K. B." left forearm; dress, dark green mixture jacket, " Whitehouse " on tab, black vest, brown cord trousers, cap. A native of London. Has served in the Royal Horse Artillery, and was discharged for misconduct, also convicted at Havant 26th March last of stealing a bicycle. Warrant issued. Zi.— Sevenoaks ( County).— For obtaining by a worthless cheque, 24th ult., at Chelsfield, a china tea service, viz., 6 cups and saucers, thin china, G plates 6 by 7 in. across, 2 round dishes 9 by 10 in. across, 1 teapot, 1 sugar box, 1 cream jug, handle rather thick, covered with gilt, 1 basin, 1 tile painted for teapot stand, 2 jugs of different shape, 10 in. high, pale blue handles, slightly decorated with gilt, the above are all hand painted, French landscape views, except one, which i6 a view of the fields at Catford, and each piece of china has the initials " A. G." or " A. Grillet" and the year which they were painted thereon; 6 cups and saucers of fine china painted by Maria Grillet, 1 blue corn flowers, on back of saucers painted " Remember me, by Maria Grillet," 2 red copies, 1 red fuchsia, 1 violets and yellow rose, 5 of these cups and saucers were marked " M. G."; 1 gilt clock, figure of woman with wreath of roses seated beside clock on gilt stand, about 16 in. long, 13 in. high, believed to be bronze and of French make, on block wood stand; a brown Gladstone bag, 23 or 24 in long, about 13 in. deep, if marked, would be either " R. L." or " H. D. Hewitt"— D. A. G. NEEDHAM, alias Lieut. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding) 25.— Doncaster ( Borough).— For obtaining 3 cows by a worthless cheque, 25th ult.— JOSEPH HURST, alias HICKEY, age 44, height 5 ft. 3 in., general dealer; native of Battersea. Is well known amongst horse dealers, & c., attends cattle and horse auctions and markets. wearing dark clothes, short coat, and black hat, sometimes wears a cap. A native of New York, and was a watchmaker. Convicted at Glasgow 27.8.08, and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for housebreaking — THOMAS G. MEIKLE- JOHN, alias THOMAS GRAHAM, and STAN- LEY, Office No. S 103886, age 22, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, clean shaved, or may have a slight moustache, Scottish accent; wore dark brown coat and ve6t, trousers darker shade, generally wears a cap. A native of Glasgow. Has been a bookmaker's clerk. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Lowe, Detective Depart- ment, Dublin. ooat and vest, grey striped trousers. A groom; native of Sheffield. AYRSHIRE. 26.— Irvine ( County).— For embezzling £ 12, between 13th and 17th ult.— DUNCAN CROMP- T. ON, age 23, height about 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair light, heavy eyelashes, clean shaved, eyes grey, first joint of left middle finger missing; dress, grey tweed square cut jacket rather heavy moustache brown, eyes grey. A school or music teacher. ( See Case No. 49, 6th May last.) May be accompanied by his wife, age about 35, height 5 ft. 3 in., medium build, com- plexion pale. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. 28.— Dublin ( City).— For feloniously breaking and entering the Post Office at Nassau Street, Dub- lin, between 11th and 13th June, 1910, and stealing; Postal Orders, cash and stamps, value £ 380, by stealing ( bailee) bicycles— ARNOLD ALFRED MORLEY, alias HOUNSLOW and MARTIN, age 40, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair and irregular tapering wen or cyst behind and in line with top of right ear, 1 smaller do. slightly above, also a third one forming on back of head left side, scarcely noticeable, being covered with hair : dress, dark grey tweed jacket suit, black felt hat with flat crown, may be wearing a Donegal hat or peak cap. A solicitor; native of Dunfermline. Absconded 8th inst. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dunferm- line. LANCASHIRE. 80.— Manchester ( City). — For larceny— GEORGE WARRENER, alias HEWSON and ROBERTS, age 40, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes grey; dress, uavy blue vest, navy blue trousers, light grey cap, blue and white striped rubber collar, heavy lace boots. A native of Maybole. Has been employed aa a carter and farm servant. Spoke of going to the South of England, also to Canada. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 27.— Cheltenham i County).— For failing t. o surrender to his bail at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 29th ult., on three charges of safebreaking — LOUIS ROSS, alius JOSEPH HODGE and LOUIS LATTER, Office No. S. 27272, age 31, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, long ncse, small moustache dark, eyes brown; 4 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED— continued. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 31.— Halifax ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 3 6s. 10d., at Brighouse, between 10th May and 27th ult.— JOE STOTT, age 38. height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, rather stout build, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, prominent Roman nose; dress, blue serge jacket suit. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( noHthiued)— KENT. 32.— Margate ( Borough).— For stealing 7th inst., a silver keyless watch, Swiss make, cow en- graved on back of outer case, inner case very scratched; 1 silver chain spring links, set small blue cross, large blue do. as pendant; 1 plain, silver sovereign purse; and 1 silver match box, " CF from LL" thereon— GEORGE MILLER, alias ROBERT MILLEN, age 16, height about 5 ft., complexion pale, hair and eyes brown; dress, green and grey mixture suit, green tweed cap, blue and white tie, new boots. Has been employed as a kitchen porter; native of London. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Margate. 83.— Tunbridge Wells ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 13 10s. by false pretences, 7th inst.— LOUIS WALTERS, alias LEONARD or LEN- NARD, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, nose slightly round, of Jewish appearance, prominent yellow mark on one front tooth; dress, grey 6uit, pale blue tie with light stripes, brown shoes*.
