All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOB OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. i. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6 Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6 » . per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the < irst instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZBTTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows:— ( a) All persons coming within Sections 5, 7, or 8, of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( b) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's imprison- ment, without option of a fine, for any of the oflences shown below. ( c) i'All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the following offences:— Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. Importuning male persons to commit un- natural offences ( Vagrancy Act, 1898, Sec. 1, par. b). Indecent assault on female. Larceny. Mental degenerates. Obtaining goods and money by false pre- tences. Possessing housebreaking tools. Procuration of women and girls. Prostitution, living on proceeds of ( Vagrancy Act, 1898, Sec. 1, para. a). Receiving. Robbery. Sacrilege. Sheep stealing. Shopbreaking. v Suspected person. Unlawful possession. Uttering counterfeit coin. Warehouse- breaking. But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been previously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction or convictions if possible, also the No. published in the list of Habitual Criminals. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. Warrant issued. 2.— S Division. — For stealing ( bailee), £ 161 Is. lid.— EDWARD JOHN MORRIS, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh ( very clear skin), hair light, eyes blue; dress, blue serge lounge suit, straw hat, black band, button boots. Wearing small pattern gold albert, large silver watch, odd sleeve links. A cashier, native of Liverpool. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BUCKING HA MS HI RE. 3.— Great Mar low ( County).— For stealing 17s from her lodgings, 21st ult. TAYLOR, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) dark, eyes blue; dress, black skirt, black three- quarter length coat, black hat or toque trimmed black ribbon, black veil. Stated she had business to transact with a local solicitor. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Summers, County Police Station, High Wycombe. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 4.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 18th ult., a gunmetal cigarette case containing 7 sovereigns ; 1 silver Waltham lever hunter watch ; 1 silver albert, cable pattern, medal attached, " Broad- bent, St. Catherine's College, 1909," thereon— A MAN, who gave name LEITH HAMILTON, age 24 to 30, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, clean shaved, of good address; dress, blue serge suit, black bowler hat. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. CA RNA R VONSHIRE. 5.-— Bangor ( County).— For leaving his wife chargeable to the Bangor and Beaumaris Union— ROBERT JONES, age 46, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair dark brown, moustache light, eyes blue, scar bridge of nose, part of one finger missing. A stonemason, native of Menai Bridge. Warrant issued. 6.— Bangor ( County).— For non- payment of £ 1 17s. 6d. maintenance arrears— OWEN OWENS, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache light brown, eyes blue, addicted to drink. CHESHIRE. 7.— Broxton ( County).— For stealing a horse, 24th ult., at Newton- bv- Chester— JOHN HOLLO- WELL, alias JOHN WILLIAM HOLLOWELL, age 23, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, slight moustache, eyes grey, pimples on face; dress, dark suit and cap. A labourer, native of Chester. A MAN, age 18 or 19, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion very fresh; wearing a searf or muffler, peak cap. They disposed of the horse at Warrington. Warrant issued. Hicks, Broxton. 8.— Crewe ( County).— For stealing 22nd ult., a badger and cage ( recovered) — CHARLES HALLSWORTH, age 22, height 5 ft. 9 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( long in front) very dark, clean shaved, of good address; dress, plaid jacket suit, white scarf, bowler hat, heavy lace boots. A cabinet maker, native of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Warrant issued. 9.— Crewe ( County). — For embezzling £ 9, £ 14 5s. 5d. and £ 17 ~ 3s. 3d., 9th August, 30th September and 17th December, 1909, respectively— ARTHUR ERNEST POCOCK, alias BEN POCOCK, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved, Irish accent, addicted to drink, fond of betting. A commercial traveller. Formerly employed by a firm of seed and manure merchants at Stourbridge. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 10.- Dukinfieid ( County).— For shopbreaking, 22nd ult.— Licence- holder JAMES HARROP, Office No. 340S- 99, age 39, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, blue scar on forehead, mole right cheek, indistinct tattoo marks left forearm, high cheek bones, walks erect, is very plausible, 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE. McHale, Liscard. 12.— Runcorn { County).— For stealing a pair of boots, 17th ult.— JOHN PETER REYNOLDS, Office No. 673- 08, age 20, height 5 ft. 5£ in., com- plexion fresh ( sunbftrnt), hair light brown, eyes blue, scar on forehead, woman's head right forearm; dress, dark suit, grey peak cap, red tie, brown lace boots ( blacked). A shoemaker, native of Blackburn. Called at a factory requesting work, and whilst alone in the Foreman's office stole the boots which were subsequently found pledged. May have in his possessson a round tin cheque " W. C. R." and " 28" thereon. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ennion, Runcorn. 13.— Birkenhead ( Borough).— For obtaining 2s. 6d. by false pretences, 21st ult.— J. MARTIN ( supposed false), age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion sallow, full round face, hair and slight moustache dark, eyes ( piercing) dark brown, quiet spoken ; drees, dark grey tweed suit, white straw or black felt hat. He called at a Servants' Registry Office, stated he was an official from the Town Hall, and collected the above amount as registration fee, stating the receipt would be forwarded by post, he also solicits orders for advertisements in a Liverpool Directory. DERBYSHIRE. 14.— Chesterfield { Borough).— For obtaining £ 5 4s. 8d. by false pretences, 7th ult.— ARTHUR SMITH, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 6 in., good build, complexion florid, hair light sandy, moustache sandy, large nose ; dress, dark brown jacket and vest, brown cord trousers, cotton neckerchief, black cap, light lace boots. A carter or labourer, may seek employment at railway depots, farms or quarries, and be found at common lodging- houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chesterfield. DORSETSHIRE. 15. — Poole { County). — For forging and uttering a cheque for £ 665 — A. WATTS, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair, moustache and close- cropped beard dark brown, of good address; dress, light grey suit, dark tie, brown straw alpine hat, boots with light uppers. On 14th ult. he registered a room at a hotel at Southampton, engaged a messenger boy to take a cheque made payable to Watts, Deakin and Co. from the account of Mr. Randolph Meech, Hamworthy, Poole, poultry appliance manufacturer, to a bank here to cash. Is identical with William Peddle, arrested at Peterborough, 8th July, 1909, for attempted felony, also for stealing a bicycle lamp at Somerton, Somerset. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brown, Poole. ESSEX. 16.— Chelmsford ( County).— For stealing at Danbury, between 1st and 20th ult., 15 fleeces of wool ( recovered).— WALTER HART, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache light, eyes ( believed blue); dress, dark clothes and cap, of Naval appearance. JOHN LEE, age about 33, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown; dress, brown velveteen coat, dark trousers and cap. Is a son of Gipsy Lee. Supposed travelling the country with a van, accompanied by his wife and four children. Left Chelmsford 20th ult. May be found pea or fruit picking. WILLIAM HUDSON, age about^ 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, full round face, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes ( believed) blue; dress, striped jacket and trousers, cap. Warrants issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 17.— Grays { County).— For stealing a diamond glass cutter ( recovered), at Langdon Hills, 8th ult. — FREDERICK STACEY, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved; dress, dark mixture suit, green stripes, right sleeve of jacket stained with hot lime, dark cap. Obtains employment as a painter, and commits robberies at houses where employed. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Grays. 18.— Southend- on " Sea { County). — For officebreaking, 13th ult., and stealing a cheque book on the London and County Bank, Southend- on- Sea, con- taining cheques, Nos. 112426- 50; 1 brown leather brief bag, about 18 in. long, " W. C. M." thereon ( W partly obliterated) ; 1 60 ft. tape measure in reddish leather case, " J. Rabone and Sons, Birmingham," on case, 1 4 fold 2 ft. rule, and 1 pair brown boots, size 9, Derby fronts, " Freeman, Hardy and Willis" on tab— F. C. MARTIN, supposed false, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, hair and moustache brown, very plausible; dress, dark grey striped suit, black bowler hat, brown kid gloves and boots, much worn. On 14th ult. he was measured, at Penge, for a suit of clothes costing £ 3 10s., tendered a cheque for £ 4, received the balance, had several other cheques in his possession. Warrant issued. 19— Southend- on- Sea { County). — For obtaining by false pretences, 10th ult., a square trade cart, painted chocolate colour, picked out white, " Belcham" believed on off shaft, near side wing board broken, green corded cushion, black leather one side— HENRY REEVES, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh,' thin face, hair dark, moustache brown, eyes blue, 2 or 3 upper front teeth missing; dress, blue serge suit, button boots, sometimes wears breeches and leather leggings. A greengrocer, native of Ilford. He left Southend 10th ult., driving a dark bay gelding cob about 14 hands, white blaze down face, both hind fetlocks white, in good condition, attached to above described cart. Warrant issued. GLAMORGA NSHIRE. 20.— Cardiff { City).— For larceny by trick— GEORGE McNISH, alias IRISH and McIRISH, age 41, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes dark grey, clean shaved, 2 scars left side forehead, large veins inside each leg, " George McNish" tat- tooed left forearm, star web of one thumb ; dress, old black morning coat ( 2 buttons), black hard hat. A canvasser, native of Manfield, N. B. He registered himself at the Labour Exchange here. Has been convicted of larceny at Dudley and Swindon. Warrant issued. 21 — Cardiff { City).— For obtaining £ 27 by Seamen's forged advance notes.— LONG SOW, a Chinaman, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., of smart appearance; dress, dark suit and cap, gold albert across top of vest, diamond ring and a half hoop engagement ring on 3rd left finger. A runner. Believed known in East India Dock Road, London, and Pitt Street, Liverpool. Warrant issued. 22.— Cardiff { City).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— DAVID FIELDING, a man of colour, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., hair black, very large square jaw. A seaman or pugilist. A good pianist, may be found playing in public houses. Well known at Porth and Newport. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. HAMPSHIRE. 23.— Aldershot ( County).— For stealing, 21st May last, a bicycle ( recovered). — TOM GORDON WALTON, age 23, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, large scar front of chest and over left eye. Is a deserter from the 2nd Yorkshire Light Infantry. He disposed of the bicycle at Charlbury, Oxon. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. HERTFORDSHIRE. 26 — Bishop's Stortford { County).— For stealing a brown horse pony, a set of brass mounted harness, from the New Sewerage Works at Sawbridee- worth, 5th ult.— H. WHITE, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., good build, complexion fresh, slight moustache light; dress, brown tweed suit and cap, blue neckerchief with red stripes. Supposed a native of Bow, London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Spriggs, Bishop's Stortford. 27 .— Hitchin { County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Letch worth, 16th ult., a bicycle ( recovered), and a keyless metal " Ingersoll" watch — WALTER KENYON, age 28, height 5 ft. 5 in., thin features, hair and moustache light, bad teeth; dress, brown tweed suit, dark cap, green tie, soft flannel collar, lace boots. An engineer's fitter. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hitchin. KENT. 28— Maidstone { County).— For obtaining farm produce by false pretences, trading under the name of WM. HILL, 37, Asylum Road, Old Kent Road— ALFRED STEEL, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue; dress, brown or blue suit, straw hat or skull cap. A dealer in old horses. Native of London. Concerned with Arthur Bridges, H. C. R. S. 6516, in custody. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hayward, Wrens Cross, Maidstone. 29 — Dover { Borough).— For stealing £ 6 13s. 6d. from a Church of England Home— GEORGE JACK- SON, alias FREDERICK JONES, age 29, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, round face, hair dark brown, eyes blue, large scar back of head; dress, dark mixture jacket and vest, chocolate colour plaid trouses, rubber collar, white tie, light muffler, green cap, nailed boots. A butcher, believed a native of Brixton. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dover. 30.— Ramsgate { Borough).— For stealing ( servant) £ 4, 16th ult. — CISSlE POOLE, alias DICKENS, age about 18, height about 5 ft. 2 in., good build, complexion fresh, full face, hair brown ( frizzy), of rather sleepy appearance; dress, black serge bodice and skirt, black straw sailor hat, sometimes wears a black three- quarter length coat. Stated her father was a cab driver in the vicinity of Regent's Park, London. She came to Ramsgate about three weeks ago from Southend, accompanied by a man, age about 28, has a stump leg, hawks rubber stamps and marking ink. Absconded 16th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANARKSHIRE. 31.— Glasgow ( City).— GEORGE GARSCAD- DEN, Case No. 22, 22nd April last. Not now wanted. Warrant withdrawn. LANCASHIRE. 32.— Liverpool { City).— For embezzlement, 17th ult.— ABRAHAM COHEN, a Jew, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, eyes greyish; dress, old grey striped suit, but may now be wearing new clothing. He expressed his intention of visiting West Kirby, Southport, and Blackpool, also made enquiries about Canada and the United States. May be found at shipping offices. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. LINCOLNSHIRE. 33.— Spalding { County).— For stealing ( bailee) a watch ( recovered) BROMAGE, age 55 to 60, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., hair, whiskers and moustache dark brown, turning grey ; dress, dark jacket suit, black bowler hat, carries a small box 15 in. by 8 in., black oil- cloth cover. A tramping clock cleaner, absconded 3rd ult. Stays at common lodging houses. Had in his possession a pedlar's certificate in name of Joseph Fellows. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Carman, Fareham. 25.— Portsmouth { Borough).— For obtaining a " Rex " motor cycle, 3J h. p., by a worthless cheque, 19th May last— JOHN WEYMOUTH HURRELL, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion inclined to fresh, hair brown, slight drooping mous- tache; sometimes wears a light Norfolk suit and cap. Warrant issued. 36.— T Division*— For larceny ( furnished apartments)— PERCY EDWAED SULLIVAN, alias — BEOOKES, age 20, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light, eyes grey, clean shaved, scar outside right leg, Irish accent; dress, blue serge or brown jacket suit, hard felt hat, soft- fronted shirt, dark tie. A deserter from the Eoyal Army Medical Corps, Aldershot. He calls at good- class houses, where cards with " Apartments to Let" are exhibited in the windows, and representing that he has just arrived from Dublin to take up an appointment in G. P. O. or afe Somerset House, asks permission to wash or rest himself; then takes the first favourable opportunity to steal jewellery and decamps. CARNARVONSHIRE. 37.— Bangor ( County).— For obtaining £ 5 by a forged cheque, August, 1909— FEANCIS AETHUE PHILLIPS, alias EALPH KEEE, MANNEES, & c.
