The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of adver- tisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detection of crime. The Editor inserts it in hope of preventing delays which some- times occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regulations in force in the Metropolis :— 1.— Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a | reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commis- sioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points :— ( a) The amount of the reward. ( ft) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The name and address of the person by whom it will be paid. ( d) The name and address of the printer must appear thereon. 2.— No expression must be used in such an advertisement in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. Attention is particularly directed to the conditions ( a) to ( d), clause 1, as Police Notices are constantly being received by the Metropolitan Police in which the conditions mentioned have not been complied with, especially those marked ( a) and ( c). Such notices are not distributed. NOTE.— There are 191 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can be posted.
