Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly slated Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property ^. t a cost of per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6 s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, citu, i r borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and "/ « « • a-? practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties J. I he force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to he inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number- of the announcement Jor insertion in th^ iext issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be ' forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form , and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal ^ Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. LANCASHIRE. 13.— Skerton ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— Licence- holder JOHN SMITH, alias TAYLOR, WILLIAMS, and WILSON, Office No. 414- 09, Case Nos. 24, 4th June, and 21, 6th August, 1909, age 29, height 6 ft. lj in., com- plexion sallow, hair light brown, eyes dark brown, clean shaven, scar bridge of nose, 2 men boxing, clasped hands, heart, Japanese woman with fan, and bust of man left forearm ; dress, grey mixture over- coat, blue serge trousers, yellow boots ( narrow toes, cracked across instep), greenish colour cap. A native of Huddersfield. He obtains money by calling upon persons who have friends abroad, represents that he has just come from the same place and knows them well, and that he is in temporary need of assistance to obtain his luggage which he has to leave at a neighbouring railway station owing to being charged excess fare, which he could not then pay. Barnett, Skerton. 14.— Manchester ( City).— For incurring a certain liability to the amount of £ 273 16s. 8d., with intent to defraud— ARTHUR FIELD, age 30 to 33, height 5 ft. 3£ in., slight build, complexion dark, rather thin features, hair very dark, slight moustache waxed at ends, eyes dark, Jewish nose, pointed chin ; dress, light grey suit and straw hat. For about 8 months Field has been the occupier of a warehouse in this city as a dealer in soft goods, and after in- spiring confidence by paying small accounts, has obtained considerable quantities of goods ( grey cloth, & c.), and disappeared a few days ago— Accompanied by A WOMAN, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight HEREFORDSHIRE. 10.— Hereford ( City).— For stealing from her lodgings, 2nd inst., a set of underclothing, white long cloth, trimmed embroidery; 1 black and white striped petticoat; 1 long sleeve Spencer; 1 cream- coloured tucked nun's veiling blouse; 1 brown dust cloak; a number of handkerchiefs ; 1 lady's brown mackintosh coat; and£ 2 12s.— ADDIS ROBERTS, alias LYDIA ABIGAIL ROBERTS, age 23, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes grey; dress, black skirt ( short), greenish striped blouse, burnt colour straw French sailor hat, and the stolen mackin- tosh coat. A dressmaker. Native of Smethwick, Staffs. Sentenced to 2 months' hard labour at Bir- mingham Petty Sessions, 27th September, 1905, for obtaining 2s. by fraud ; 1 day at Aston Petty Sessions, 27th November, 1905, for stealing a blouse, & c. ; 4 months hard labour at Worcester County Sessions, 2nd April, 1906, for obtaining goods by false pre- tences; and bound over, 8th February, 1908, at Worcester City Assizes for stealing a money- box, & c. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 11.— Stanground ( County).— For stealing, 7th inst., at Old Fletton, a Waltham lever watch : 1 silver chain, curb pattern, fancy silver medal attached; and 10s.— A MAN, age 34, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., heavy brown moustache, a lump, almost like a cherry, right upper lip, slight impediment in speech, splay feet; dress, greenish colour striped trousers and vest, grey jacket, light cap, brown boots. A clerk in Holy Orders. In possession of several Bank of England notes, including one for £ 50. Accompanied by A WOMAN, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., full face, hair light brown, full promi- nent eyes ; dress, grey or fawn- coloured dress, dark velvet cuffs to coat. Warrant issued. LINCOLNSHIRE. 16— Gainsborough ( County).— For stealing a lady's rush dress basket, containing 2 youths' black serge suits ( nearly new), each jacket has a vent at back, tight fitting trousers; 3 shirts ( 1 flannelette dark green, 1 fancy blue and white stripe, 1 flannelette undershirt); 2 pairs socks ( darned); 2 caps ( 1 black, 1 green); 5 handkerchiefs ( 2 white, 3 red and white dots); 1 blue and red muffler ; 3 ties ( 2 black, 1 cream colour sporting); 1 pair black lace boots, patent toe- caps, rubber heels, size 8; 1 watch in celluloid case ( Marshall's check No. 1075 inside case); 1 silver curb chain; 1 gold pin, small stone in centre; and 6s. 6d.— A. JOHNSON, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 5 to 7 in., complexion very sunburnt, hair turning grey, moustache brown or ginger, abscess scar left- cheek, near mouth; dress, black jacket and vest, narrow white stripe ( jacket torn back right shoulder), dark grey trousers, light cap, red and black muffler,' lace boots. A boiler laggar. He engaged a man for a Birmingham firm at Lincoln, induced him to leave his clothing at the railway cloak room, obtained the ticket and absconded with the clothing. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Newtown. NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. 18.— Kettering ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences, 2nd inst.— H. A. PRYCE BROWNE, age about 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., stiff build, rather full face, hair and moustache light, front teeth much discoloured and finger very much stained owing to cigarette smoking, mole ( size of a pea) front left side of neck, peculiar gait, appearance of one leg shorter than the other; dress, brown jacket suit and cap, brown boots ( nearly new), some- times wears glasses. He obtained lodgings stating he was a member of a firm of accountants whose head office is in London and branches at Luton, South- port, Wolverhampton, Preston and Chesterfield, who were going to open a branch in this district. NOTTINGHA MS HIRE. 19.— Nottingham ( City).— For false pre- tences ( several charges)— WILLIAM ROBERTS, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair dark brown ( very thick), short heavy moustache dark, teeth very dis- coloured ; dress, dark jacket and trousers, cream coloured vest with black braid, blue striped cuffs, dark cap, carries a small brown bag and overcoat, and may be in possession of a bicycle. He called on a number of people, chiefly small shopkeepers, repre- sented himself to be an insurance inspector in the employ of the Prudential Insurance Company, and induced them to part with sums of money varying from 2s. 6d. to 10s., promising them a bonus of £ 50. He gave each person a coupon filled in as follows, viz.:—" Received of ( name) the sum of 5s. for certificate of £ 50, £ 5 to be paid out on the 6th Aug., 1909, for advertisement. Warrant issued.
