All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THB EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 3. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted tn one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article i's large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13 14. IffS. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear m number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by COU71Z168. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLIOB GAZETTB, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to th » number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. _ They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion { if accepted) will be given on application. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. UNDER tlie existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( a) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( b) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with- out option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens' Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. Bankruptcy offences. Being found on enclosed premises. Breaking into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Burglary. Cattle stealing. Coining. Conspiracies of all descriptions. Embezzlement. But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been pre- viously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or con- victions if possible, also the No. published in the list of Habitual Criminals. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. Warrant issued. 3.— B Division.— For stealing, Stli April last, a large Queen Anne plain silver coffee pot, milk jug to match; 1 large old silver tea pot, i fluted near spout, large cream jug to match; 1 j large round silver engraved tea caddy, silver tea i spoon inside, milk jug to match ( crest, three- quarters of a black cock on each); 1 small old silver oval tea pot, fluted pattern; 6 silver plated apostle tea spoons; and £ 20— LUIS ISAN- BERGER ( a French Swiss), age 22, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, thin features, aquiline nose, hair blacky eyes bluish- grey; dress, dark jacket suit, black hard felt hat, white bow tie, shoes with elastic in front. A native of Enfield. Was employed as a baker's roundsman. DEVONSHIRE. 16.— Exeter ( City).— For stealing, 7th inst., a large old fashioned silver open face watch, black hands! and numerals ( recovered); 1 lady's silver double case do., gilt hands, floral design on back, out of repair, silver old fashioned snake pattern chain with silver whistle attached; and 14s. 6d.— WILLIAM CORNER, alias HILL, YEO, CTJRRELL, RICHARDS, and MOORE, Office No. 1721- 99, age 70, height 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( partly bald) and whiskers ( turn- inggrey) brown, eyes grey, sailor and Crucifix right, coat of arms, heart, anchor and cross left forearm; dress, blue coat, dark grey trousers, grey cap, and slate colour muffler. A native of South Molton. Is well known to the Devon County Police, and tramps the country doing odd jobs for small farmers. Warrant issued. A shopfitter. Has been con- victed at Birmingham and Portsmouth. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bedford. BERKSHIRE. 10.— Reading ( Borough).— For embezzlement — W. A. HARRIS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh,, hair brown, Irish accent; dress, brown check jacket suit, green tie, cap, brown boots. He was employed as a fitter here in charge of a branch business for a firm of weight and scale makers, Birmingham, and was formerly employed by Pooleys, Birmingham, and managed a branch business for them in Dublin, Cardiff, and various parts of the North of England. Is a prominent football player, and played for Reading Reserves. Absconded 29th May last, and was seen in London on lst inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. CHESHIRE. 11— Aitrincham ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) £ 10 10s.— JOHN FALKNER, age 17, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar right side of face, nose turned up at end, mouth open; dress, brown tweed suit, light cap, white muffler, black spots, heavy Derby boots. A farm labourer; native of War- rington. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Okell, Aitrincham. 12.— Crewe ( County).— For stealing £ 80, 14th inst.— CHARLES WHITE, age 39, height 5 ft. 8J in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, wart under right eye, right thumb has been in- jured, peculiar nail; dress, blue serge suit, black hard felt hat, tan colour boots. A hall porter. — For aiding and abetting the above —• ADA SMITH, age 27, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion very fresh, hair dark, artificial upper teeth; dress, greenish plaid costume, plum, colour hat. In possession of a " James" bicycle, No. 50039; a large wooden box, 4 ft. by 3; a large tin do.; a Japanese basket; and a lady's " Singer" bicycle. They left Crewe for Manchester by rail. Pearson, Crewe. 13 .— Liscard [ County). - For obtaining, by false pretences, a dark chestnut mare pony, 13\ hands, white blaze down face, mane hangs near side, near fore foot smaller than off do.; set of black harness, brass mounted',, reins plaited half way; and a governess car, painted black, brass rein rest, brown leather cushions— WILLIAM FISHER, age about 45, height 6 ft. 1 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) turn- ing grey, moustache dark; dress, black suit and hard felt hat. A horsedealer; well known amongst horse dealers. He represented that he required them for his wife), who was an invalid, and gave a bill on Parr's Bank, Ltd., Widnes, for £ 25 ( worthless), and obtained same for a week on ap- proval. DERBYSHIRE. 15. — Renishaw ( County). — For stealing between 5th and 7th inst., at Greenhill, Norton, a trap rug ( one side black, other yellow and brown), about 4 ft. by 3J.; 1 new pink cotton shirt; 2 pairs grey pants; 2 wollen vests; ' 2 roller towels ( 1 with red stripe down each side, other plain); 1 DUMFRIESSHIRE. 17.— Dumfries ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 6s. by false pretences— ROBERT SMITH, alias THOMAS SMITH and JOHN McLENNAN, age 50 to 60, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in , stout build, complexion fresh, full round face, hair and eyes grey, clean shaved, twitches his mouth whien speaking; dress, dark tweed jacket suit, hard felt hat|, blucher boots. He represented himself as master of the s. s. Storie, which was wrecked off the coast of Ireland, and that his means had become exhausted in sending his crew to Grimsby, and that he was a member of the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society. He was engaged cleaning windows at the house where he committed the larceny. May be acompanied by a woman, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light. ROGERS, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion, hair and slight moustache dark; dress, brown suit, grey cap. He answers advertisements, which appear in Cage Birds, stating he has birds for sale, receives the amount, and acknowledges receipt of same stating the birds will be forwarded, which he fails to do. Gave an address at Marshal- sea Road, London, S. E., which was found to be a newsagents, where he had letters sent. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate.
