XXVI., No. 2650. i. 2 CS- TT All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all commun- ications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less ranlc than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 6. 8. 10, 11. 12. 13 14. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. SPECIAL NOTICE. LICENCE HOLDERS AND SUPERVISEES. IN most cases in which Licence- holders and Supervisees residing in the Provinces fail to report themselves and whose arrest is consequently desired, the Editor is requested to insert the particulars in the GAZETTE. Arrests on such informations are made sub- sequently, but the particulars are not always for- warded for the purpose of the original information being cancelled as required by Rule 9 of the Regula- tions; the Editor therefore desires to call special atten- tion to this matter with a view to the Rule men- tioned being invariably acted upon. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1.— 5 Division.— For obtaining £ 5 by false pretences— GORDON BELL, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair ( curly in front) dark brown, slight moustache dark, supposed cast in right eye, growth on upper lip; dress, blue serge suit, brown leggings, white rubber collar or white neckerchief, grey cap. A greengrocer's assistant; supposed a native of Lon- don. May be found in the Eastern Counties selling fruit and vegetables from a cart. He obtained the above amount under the pretence of giving em- ployment to carmen. Warrant issued. 2.— T Divisionm— For embezzling £ 32 lis. 6d.— HENRY CHARLES BROWN, age 36 ( looks older), height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair, moustache and eyes brown, pointed nose, addicted to drink; dress, brown overcoat, dark suit, grey cap. Warrant issued. 3. — w Division> — For embezzling £ 3 13s. 5£ d., 26th ult.— EDWIN HENRY CRIPPS, age 26, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallowv hair black, eyes dark brown, lump behind left ear, 3rd right finger deficient; dress, dark suit and tie, brown cap, lace boots. A native of Battersea, Lon- don. Has served in the 18th Hussars. ( See Case No. 6, 7th inst.) Warrant issued. 4.— x Division » — Escaped from custody, charged with larceny— ALFRED GEORGE, alias FORTESCUE, Office No. S- 64775, age 21, height 5 ft. 6 in., stoops slightly, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, clean shaved, long features,, sullen expression; dress, blue serge vest, trousers and cap, light and dark blue striped tie, Blucher lace boots. A native of Fulham, London. May endeavour to leave the country as a stowaway. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CA RDIGANSHIRE. 5.— Aberystwyth { County).— For obtain- ing wool to the value of £ 34 3s. 9d., 29th October, 1908, and to the value of £ 21 12s., 18th November, 1908, by false pretences-— JOHN FELL, age about 47, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache light or light brown ( turning grey), eyes grey>, of good address, addicted to drink, walks smartly; dress, black morning coat and vest, dark striped trousers, dust coat, three- quarter length, black bowler hat, lace boots. A native of Dewsbury. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Aberystwyth. CHESHIRE. 6.— Dukinfieltl { County).— For stealing, 8th inst., from a cricket pavilion, a lady's silver Geneva watch, white dial, chased back, far worn, " Lizzie, Whitworth" engraved on inside case; 1 white metal chain, curb pattern, a shilling, date 1887, as pendant; 1 leather flap purse; and £ 1 8s.— HARRY PARKER, alias JAMES PILLING, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top of forehead) light brown, clean shaved; dress, dark tweed jacket and vest, cap, brown tweed trousers, brown lace boots ( far worn). Stated he was a professional cricketer; native of Bowling Old Lane^, near Bradford, also Colne, Lancashire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Croghan, Dukinfield. Ap- pearance of a groom. Stated he was a professional footballer, and that he was going to play for Chester- field Town; also that he had formerly played for Hastings and St. Leonards Football Club, and that he was at present working at Monckton Main Col- liery, for which football club he played last season. A native of Appledore, Devon. He was employed driving a steam motor ' bus from Paignton, to Torquay. May be found spending money freely. Is fond of motor- ing. Warrant issued. ESSEX. 14.— Chelmsford County).— For stealing, 8th inst., a safety bicycle, black enamelled frame, 28 in. wheels, free wheel, new Bates red back tyre, old Palmer front tyre repaired on off side, ends of mudguards broken off, steel toe clips, tool bag containing repairing outfit — THOMAS PORTER, age about 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, long face, hair brown; dress, black overcoat, light check vest and trousers, white neckerchief, old check cap. A labourer; native of Deptford. Previously convicted at Woolwich of sleeping out and acting as a pedlar without a certifi- cate. Believed making his way to Maidstone. Is a member of the Kent Militia. Warrant issued. 15 — Chelmsford ( County).— For stealing ( person), 14th inst., a black leather purse; 1 silver Volunteer medal, dated 1872, " Welcome to Ghent" inscribed thereon; 1 silver Conservative challenge medal, " C. E. Rippon, C. C. C.," thereon; several silver coins; 1 gold horseshoe pin ( broken) ; 2 pairs gold earrings, representing small stars; 2 plain gold studs; 1 small diamond— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stout build, com- plexion fresh,, round face, hair light, believed light moustache; wearing light brown coat, light hat. He arrived from London by 12 noon train, 14th inst., and returned by the 1.38 p. m. train same date. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 16. — Southend ( County). — For stealing, 8th inst., a diamond ring, stone pear shape, cts.; 1 gold pin, eagle's claw, set red stone— HARRY OVERTON, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., good build, complexion florid, hair, mous- tache and eyes brown; dress, blue serge jacket 6uit, black Melton overcoat, black bowler hat, wore a gold double albert. Stated he was employed by the American Studio, Stepney, London, canvassing for orders for enlarging photographs, and induced the owner of above to allow him to take the paintings to be cleaned and to sell the ware for him. Styles, Tonbridge. 25.— 1( Vest Mailing ( County).— For obtain- ing 4 tons of potatoes by false pretences— GEORGE HARDING ( supposed false), age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in,, slight build, complexion fair, moustache dark; dress, dark suit and cap, some- times wears dark rainproof overcoat. He hires a stable, answers advertisements in local papers ( in- serted by farmers offering their produce for sale), by postcards, headed " George Harding, Forage Merchant, Brewers' Grain and General Contractor, Short Street, Woolwich, Kent, also at Stepney," asking that goods be forwarded to a station in London, stating that cheque will be forwarded on receipt. Warrant issued. For larceny— WILLIAM J. CORBISHLEY, alias LESLIE NEWTON, age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, dimple in chin; dress, dark grey tweed jacket suit, round soft grey hat, old lace boots!, carried a light fawn coloured mackin- tosh. GLOUCESTERSHIRE- 81.— Bristol ( City\-~ For stealing a gold filled watch, and £ 123— JOHN NOTLEY, alias JAS- PER NOTLEY, ARTHUR SMITH, and JOHN HALL, Office No. 1270- 06, age 36 height 5 ft. 5 in., strong build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, may be now clean shaved, eyes blue, scar on nose, 3 dots left forearm, speaks with North Country accent; dress, dark lounge suit, brown boots, green cap, turned- down collar and front, and tie. A collier. Has been convicted at Swindon, Newport ( Mon.), Pontypridd, Rother- ham, Derby, and Bristol. May be found staying at private lodgings or coffee taverns with a woman, whom he represents to be his wife. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 32 - Bristol ( City)— For falsifying a Bank ledger HENRY BROOKS, age 45, height about 5 ft 5 in., broad build, complexion pale, hair ( patch of grey in front and inclined to wavy) and slight moustache dark, slightly bow- legged; usually wears dark clothes and bowler hat, laundry mark " A171 " The photograph was taken about 15 yeara ago,, but is still a fair likeness. Absconded 5th inst. Warrant issued.
