All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE TRAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted MI one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them, by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. ' In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 3E& 3ES © J- ~ KJ 3C* TXOTff S. 8. 10. 11. 12. 13 14. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged bu counties. v y The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received riot later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( à) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( á) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( e) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate s Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with- out option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens' Act of 1905). But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been pre- viously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, tho Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. Supposed a native of Brighton. She kept a lodg- ing house at Croydon, was entrusted with the articles, absconded 25th ult., afterwards sent a letter to loser stating she had disposed of the property. A labourer; native of Deptford. Previously convicted at Woolwich of sleeping out and acting as a pedlar without a certifi- cate. Believed making his way to Maidstone. Is a member of the Kent Militia. Pryke, Southend on- Sea. 17.— Witliam ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) 10th ult., 2 landscape oil paintings, oak frames, and a quantity of. old- fashioned willow ware— GEORGE COURTNEY, age about 37, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight buildi, complexion pale, thin face, hair ( curly) dark brown; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, light trousers, light cap or Alpine hat, thin box calf boots, wore 2 gold colour rings on left little finger, usually carries kid gloves and a cane. A photographer. Stated he was employed by the American Studio, Stepney, London, canvassing for orders for enlarging photographs, and induced the owner of above to allow him to take the paintings to be cleaned and to sell the ware for him. A costermonger; native of Battersea, London. May be found selling fruit, vegetables, or picture post cards. Usually stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. KENT. 22.— West Mailing ( County).— For obtain- ing 4 tons of potatoes by false pretencesi— GEORGE HARDING ( supposed false), age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in,, slight build, complexion fair, moustache dark; dress, dark suit and cap, some- times wears dark rainproof overcoat. He hires a stable, answers advertisements in local papers ( in- serted by farmers offering their produce for sale), by postcards, headed " George Harding, Forage Merchant, Brewers' Grain and General Contractor, Short Street, Woolwich, l£ ent, also at Stepney," asking that goods be forwarded to a station in London, stating that cheque will be forwarded on receipt. McCURDY, age about 45, height 5 ft. 9 in., round red face, hair and moustache dark brown, slight Irish accent; dress, blue serge jacket and trousers, fancy knitted woollen vest, white with black stripes, bowler hat, green knot tie, light fawn colour overcoat, light brown lace boots. Represented himself to be a Governmsnt Police Inspector. Warrant issued. 26— Liverpool ( City) - For stealing, 21st ult., an " Elswick " bicycle, nearly new, Brampton saddle, 26 in. frame— JAMES BYRNE, age 20, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fresh, hair dark . brown, eyes blue, female in tights, clasped hands and heart tattooed right forearm; dress, dark suit, cap, patent leather shoes. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 28. — Burnley ( Borough). — For stealing a bicycle and a watch— WILFRED STELL, Office No. 324- 08', age 19, height 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair brown, eye ® grey, scar left of forehead and back left hand. A weaver; native of Burnley. Has been convicted at Liverpool. Information to the Chief Constable, Burnley. 29— Warrington ( Borough).— For stealing £ 1 8s. 9d., 22nd ult.— PATRICK GILL, age 26 to 28, height about 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, com- plexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved ; dress, brown suit, light mackintosh. Is fond of football and is a member of the League of the Cross. Addicted to betting. A fitter's labourer. Prior to coming to Warrington he resided in various parts of the West Riding, Yorks, and believed to have worked in the coal mines. He collected money from persons for the purpose of visiting the Football Cup Final at the Crystal Palace, and absconded 22nd inst. with the amount collected. Warrant issued. LINCOLNSHIRE. 30. — Grimsby ( County). — For stealing— a white shawl; 1 pair button- hole scissors; 1 hair brush and comb; also for obtaining 10s. by false pretences at Cleethorpes, 8th inst,— NELLIE BAVIN, alias BEVAN, SYLVESTER, ARM- STRONG, & c., age 27, height 5 ft. 3 in., com- plexion very pale, hair dark brown, eyes blue; dress, light grey striped costume, long green coat, large black picture halt, crown trimmed black tulle velvet, black veil, black chenille, spots, lace boots, wearing a wedding ring and keeper ( set imitation diamonds). Carried a male child, age 7 weeks, wrapped in the stolen shawl, turkey red frock ( long sleeves), black socks. Since giving birth to the child she has suffered with anaemia and may visit public dispensaries or Workhouse Infirmaries for treatment. Usually takes private lodgings.
