GUL All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR or THE POLICE GAZETTE, Njffw SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly Stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. .4. remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may he. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 6. 7. 10. 11. 12. 13 14. NS. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form,, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. A wood carver,, but has been employed as a butcher's assistant. He suffers with a diseased spine and visits hospitals or infirmaries for treat- ment. Warrant issued. ' 10. - Liverpool ( City).- For obtaining board and lodgings by false pretences, from 7th to 13th ult.— W. T. McCURDY, age about 45, height 5 ft. 9 in., round red face, hair and moustache dark brown, slight Irish accent; dress, blue serge jacket and trousers, fancy knitted woollen vest, white with black stripes, bowler hat, green knot tie, light fawn colour overcoat, light brown lace boots. Represented himself to be a Government Police Inspector. Warrant issued. 11,— Liverpool ( City).— For stealing, 21st ult., an " Elswick " bicycle, nearly new, Brampton saddle, 26 in. frame— JAMES BYRNE, age 20, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, female in tights, clasped hands and heart tattooed right forearm; dress, dark suit, cap, patent leather shoes. Appearance of a jockey; native of Dublin. May endeavour to enlist. 12 — Liverpool ( City).— For stealing £ 140, 3rd ult.— RICHARD THOMAS, age 34, height about 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion dark, moustache black. Absconded 5th ult. Is fond of football and is a member of the League of the Cross. Addicted to betting. A fitter's labourer. Prior to coming to Warrington he resided in various parts of the West Riding, Yorks, and believed to have worked in the coal mines. He collected monev from persons for the purpose of visiting the Football Cup Final at the Crystal Palace, and absconded 22nd inst. with the amount collected. Warrant issued. S., January, 1854" engraved on back; 1 large cameo brooch with " Doves of the Capitol"; 1 small gold double locket, photograph of a woman inside; 1 long trinchinopoli gold chain; 1 Florentine mosaic brooch in case; 1 lady's long gold watch chain, relics, charms, and crucifix attached; 1 gold albert1 signet, seal, and pencil case attached; 1 gold albert,, Japanese coin and pencil case attached; 1 gold cross on fine chain— A MAN, age 28 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair; dress, dark blue mixture overcoat, greyish trousers, black bowler hat. A tailor's can- vasser. Warrant issued. 23.— loswich ( Borough).— For embezzlement— OLIVER STIFF, age 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyea blue; wearing dark clothes. SUSSEX ( East). 24.— Hailsham ( County).— For stealing, at Heat'hfield, 11th ult., harness ( recovered)— WIL- LIAM COLLINS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair light, clean shaved, eyes grey; dress, brownish suit and cap. A gipsy. Is travelling the country accompanied by two other men singing in the streets. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. May endeavour to go abroad. 26.— Hastings ( Borough).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— CHARLES DOWSETT, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion, hair and eyes dark; dress, blue serge suit, dark cap, small black and white wrapper. GL OUGES TERSHIRE. 2S — Bristol ( City) — For converting £ 1* 10s. 7d. to his own use on or about 5th January last— ALBERT HILTON, age 33, height about 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh,- hair and small moustache brown, may be clean shaved, very active, walks quickly, addicted to drink, is suffering from a small poisonous wound front of one thigh; dress, dark suit and overcoat, black bowler hat. Had in his possession a gold pin, gold watch and chain. An iron plate worker; native of Newcastle. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. LANCASHIRE. 20.—, Manchester ( City).— For stealing ( ser- vant), 23rd ult,, 2 £ 100 Bank of England notes, Nos. believed 25— Y 26816 and 25— Y 26817, dated Manchester, lst April, 1907— GEORGE ROWE, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion pale, small feature^, hair brown, clean shaved, sharp eyes, upper teeth artificial, lower teeth de- cayed, of delicate appearance, smart, well spoken; dress, grey tweed jacket suit, grey striped overcoat, black hat, " Ingersoll" watch with leather guard attached. A clerk and good penman. One of the notes was cashed for gold on the day of the offence at the Manchester Branch of the Bank of England, and was endorsed W. T. Mitchell. Warrant issued. S TA FFORDSHIRE. 30.— Leek ( County).— For embezzling £ 28 7s. and other sums, amounting to over £ 1,500— CHARLES SATCHELL WRIGHT, age 34 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaved,, eyes brown, smart gait, inclined to lean to right side, of good address, addicted to drink; dress, brown and grey lounge suit, light mackintosh, usually wears a cap, carried a brown leather bag. A native of Congleton. May be found at hotels. Is well known to dog fanciers. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. A traveller; supposed a native of Essex,. Is believed well known at Hunstanton, Aldershot, and Yarmouth. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 33.— Wakefield ( City).- rFor obtaining 17 quarters of oats and 4 quarters of bran, by false pretences) 29th and 30th ult.— GEORGE HODG- SON, alias WILSON and ROBINSON, ao- e about 45, height 5 ft. 9A in., good build, hair and mous- tache ( waxed at end) dark, of smart appearance; dress, blue suit, puce colour tie, celluloid front, brown button boots. He represented himself as a contractor, and that he was erecting houses in the neighbourhood, rented stablesi, ordered the corn, and subsequently removed same on a flat ear( with " Platts, Burley Road, Leeds" thereon. States he is a Canadian and lias been a car checker.— MAY WILLARD, alias FISHER and FISCHER, age 34, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion dark|, hair and eyes dark brown, right leg shorter than left; well dressed.— ETHEL WILLARD, alias HILDA BECKETT and ETHEL FISHER or FISCHER, age 15, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, speaks French fluently; well dressed. State they are Canadians. They inserted advertisements in the Feathered IVorld and other papers, offering incubators, poultry & c\, for sale, received cheques, postal orders, & c., and decamped.
