All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to tliem, should be addressed to THE EDITOK or THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAKD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article m question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. fi. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's churge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost engraving sketches. 6. 7. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if tin name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by thr chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the cast may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. • A. T. X O TU & . Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranyed by cuv nties. II. The force which causes particulars concerniny delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. ~ Sew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) h'lll be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE OAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forres should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post icithin the United Kinydom. T Division.— Portrait and description of WILLIAM WARD, wanted for wilful murder at Chiswick, 28th October, 1908, age 30 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, eyes grey, hair dark brown ( grey at sides, slightly bald on top of head), thin face, high cheek bones, aquiline or Roman nose, drooping moustache ginger, may now be clean shaved, slight build, drooping shoulders, splay footed, walks badly; dress, dark jacket suit, white double collar, may be wearing a blue cloth overcoat ( velvet collar). Attends race courses and may be found travell- ing the provinces. See Special Notice " Police Gazette " 27th ult., Case No. 2, 13th ult., and No. 5, 20th ult. The above reward will be paid by Mr. H. CARNARVONSHIRE. 10.— Bangor ( County). — For obtaining credit by fraud ( board and lodgings) — MALLWYN PRICE DAVIES, age about 27, medium height, of good appearance. A native of Carnarvon. She obtains lodgings, stating her husband, who is a captain in the Merchant Service, will follow in a day or two, sometimes dresses as a nurse, takes lodp- ings, and commits larceny. SAMUEL ALEXANDER ( supposed false), a Jew, age 27 to 30, medium height, hair dark, usually clean shaved. Solicits orders for photograph enlargements. ORD, age 28 to 30, medium height; dress, green jacket, cap, black veil, dark dress, long gloves. Represents herself to be the wife of Alexander. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Harris, Bangor. CHESHIRE. 11.— Hazel Grove ( County). - For stealing from his lodgings at Cheadle, 17th ult., 3 plain gold studs; 1 pair brown shoes, fancy fronts, white canvas lining, stamped " Jager" in gold, size 9; 1 pair patent leather boots, elastic sides, size 9; and £ 1 10s.— A MAN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion fresh, high oheek bones, thin features, hair dark brown, supposed clean shaved, cut mark left cheek, birth mark on nose; dress, dark jacket, buff colour vest, dark tweed trousers, green peak cap, dark grey tweed over- coat, small gold keyless watch. He took temporary lodgings and stated he was going to reside at a local villa permanently. Is identical with Licence- holder Clayton Brown, Office No. 3222- 01, Case No. 39, 6th ult. DERBYSHIRE. £ 50 REWARD 12. — Matlock Bridge ( County). — For stealing, 24th ult., from a hydropathic establish- ment at Matlock, a round garnet brooch; 1 plain gold bar do.; 1 sapphire and diamond bracelet; 1 gold chain do. with Swiss guinea and half sover- eign attached; 1 gold curb do., cable chain pat- tarn ( last 3 articles supposed 9 and 15 ct. gold); 1 garnet do., 2 rows ( 2 stones missing); 1 lady's sapphire dress ring; 1 do. cluster ring, set small rubies and diamonds; 1 lady's 5- stone diamond do.; 1 do., single stone; 1 do. signet ring with large square dark stone ( last 5 articles supposed 18 ct. gold); 1 single stone diamond ring; 1 garnet chain lace pin; 1 gold locket, rather thick, engraved rim each side, set pearls round one side, contains miniature of a lady with grey hair painted on ivory, attached to gold chain; 1 imitation pearl string necklace; 1 lacquered box containing old paste buckle, set in gold; 1 hair slide; 1 black suede bag; 1 dark blue leather purse with mono- gram " J. McC."; 1 small dark green leather sover- eign purse; 1 brown leather purse with silver corners; 1 brown crocodile purse; 1 purple hand- bag; 1 pearl pendant, round, raised centre, fine • gold knotted chain attached. The purses con- tained about £ 6 10s., a few postage stamps, and 2 return . tickets from Manchester Central to St. Anns — JAMES ROBERTSON, alias STE- PHENSON, BARTON, RICHARDSON, CARR, BARNES, CARROLL, BROWN, and CARNEY, Office No. 3507- 99, Case No. 35, 9th October, 1908, age 67, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair ( partly bald) and moustache grey, eyes blue, nose crooked, blue spot centre of forehead, scar each wrist; dress, brown lounge suit with stripes, brown boots, wearing an open link gold chain, engraved locket attached, containing photograph of a little girl. A native of Liverpool. A clever Hydro and Hotel thief. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by Mr. Henry Challand, Matlock Bank, for the arrest of James Robertson and the recovery of the property, or in proporton to the amount of property recovered. CHECKETTS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair and moustache ( waxed and pointed) dark; dress, brown check jacket suit, brown tie ( horseshoe pin, set white stone, there- in), black hard hat, lace boots. In possession of a business card, " V. & W. Checketts, corn factors, West Bromwich," thereon. Stated that he was a corn factor, and was buying hay from farmers in the district. Warrant issued. DURHAM. 15.— South Shields ( Borough).— For steal- ing from his lodgings, 18th ult., a lady's gold |- plate lever watch, gold dial, chapters and pointers, No. 10086, cases and ring engraved; 1 9 ct. gold guard, diamond cut links with small garnet, set in gold, as appendage ( recovered at Penrith) — SAMUEL HEWSON, Office No. 1526- 08 ( Case No. 43, 20th, and for portrait Case No. 34, 13th ult), age 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion fresh, hair very dark, eyes brown, bad teeth, clean shaved, scar left temple; dress, blue serge suit, green tie, black bowler hat, grey mix- ture overcoat, smart appearance, wore yellow metal double curb albert, yellow metal medal at- tached, also ring set large white stone. Re- presented that he was a ship's steward, but had met with an accident on board one of the Govern- ment ships, and employment had been found for him at the Post Office here as a sorter. Had in his possession a continuous discharge book and a cook's certificate, which he produces; also states he is one of Dr. Barnardo's boys. He obtained 5s. for the purpose of conveying his luggage from the railway station, stating he had nothing but foreign money, which the postmaster was going to change the following morning. CARTER, age about 27, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair light brown, eyes grey, appearance and speech of a Jew; dress, dark colour suit, overcoat, hard felt hat, lace boots, may be wearing the stolen boots. He calls on tradesmen for orders for gas mantles, glasses, gas fittings, etc. ( which he carries in a brown leather bag) and obtained the boots by representing that they would be paid for by his firm. ALERON, alios ALLEN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes blue; dress, brown mixture suit, green fancy vest, brown over- coat, velvet collar, green soft felt or black bowler hat wearing a diamond ring on one little finger, and a small gold curb watch chain. Appearance of a horse dealer or race- course follower. Accom- panied by a woman, age about 36, short, stout build, hair dark brown, mole on cheek; may be wearing a mole skin coat and muff, green or green and blue hat, horseshoe brooch, set diamonds, gold brooch composed of 2 keys, gold curb chain brace- let, padlock attached. LANCASHIRE. 27.— St. Helens ( Borough).— For stealing a pair of boots, and £ 5 2s., from his lodgings, 21st ult.— ERNEST ORMSON, age about 21, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, thin face, swarthy skin, clean shaved, eyes blue, abscess mark right side of neck, cross, heart and dagger one wrist, upper teeth missing. A native of Garston or St. Helens. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. LINCOLNSHIRE. 28,— Alford ( County).— For failing to appear to summonses for an offence under the Poaching Pre- vention Act; also for resisting Police while in the execution of their duty at Aby, 14th ult. — THOMAS LAKIN, age about 35, height 5 ft 8 in., weight about 15 stones, complexion, hair, and heavy moustache dark; wearing grey jacket and vest, light cap, heavy lace boots.— THOMAS KITCHEN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., slight build, oomplexion dark, hair and moustache inclined to ginger; dress, blue suit, much worn, dark cap, heavy lace boots. OXFORDSHIRE. 29.— Burford ( County).— For obtaining £ 9 19s. 6d., by a worthless cheque— JOHN MILNE, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, large front upper teeth, well educated; dress, brown woollen suit, dark vest, heliotrope tie, light green cap, light Burburough mackintosh, brown boots. He stayed at a hotel until 21st ult., ob- tained a cheque at Lloyd's Bank, Burford Branch, which he altered to " Bank of Scotland, Montrose, pay self or bearer £ 10, John Milne." ( recovered) — THOMAS SMITH, alias DOODDIE, age 26, height 5 ft, 3 in., stout build, complexion, hair and eves dark. — SIDNEY SMITH, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown; wearing ordinary gipsv clothing.
