W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another forcc. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must , be clearly stated. . Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serio'us offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, - and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. . Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, • the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an office^ of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranytd by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, tsew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. ' The above reward will be paid by Mr. H. W. Hardy, 279 High Road, Chiswick, London, W., to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of Ward. 3.— IV Division.— For obtaining goods by false pretences— H. A farm labourer; native of Holyhead. He booked for Cardiff, 8th inst., and stated he in- tended to seek employment in the collieries. Warrant issued. A rag gatherer.— JOHN COSTIN, age 19, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion pale, hair brown; dress, blue suit. A labourer. Warrant issued. ESSEX. 11.— Chelmsford ( County).— For obtaining 6th inst., by a forged cheque, No. £ 88390 for £ 18 10s., on the London & County Bank, Shoreditch Branch, a Welsh roan horse pony, age 7 years, about 12 hands, very fat, long tail, 2 gaps cut in mane; a set of black leather harness, plated mounts, round blinkers; and a dark yellow varnished Governess car, leather on both shafts, much worn, left lamp bracket missing, left mudguard split, newly painted wheels, black, lined white— WILLIAM GROVES ( supposed false), age 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., rather stout build, complexion ruddy, full face, hair and moustache dark; dress, black overcoat and trousers, bowler hat. Accompanied by a Man, age 35, height 5 ft. 9 in.; wearing a long grey overcoat. The cheque is one which was taken from a book lost, and bore a forged signature (" William Groves"). Warrant issued. 12.— Chelmsford ( County).— For deserting his wife and children— FREDERICK THORNE, acre 28, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, rather round face, hair brown, clean shaved; dress, old dark tweed suit and cap. I'd.— Hereford ( City). — For stealing a grey flannelette shirt with stripes ; 1 white flannel under shirt; 1 pair brown knitted socks— GEORGE THOMPSON, age 23, height 6 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, only one front urwer tooth, which is rather large; dress, brown mixture plaid jacket and double- breasted vest, new brown cord trousers, black and white plaid cap, black muffler, strong lace boots. KENT. 20. — Tonbridge ( County). — For stealing from his lodgings, a small very old time- piece, brass front and back, black figures, about 4 ins. high, 2 ins. wide, 1 in. thick; 2 £ 1 Postal orders, Nos. £ 291142- 3, issued at Mailing. Kent — — GORDON, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion, hair, and eyebrows ( large) dark; dress, dark suit, dark grey overcoat, dark cap, lace boots. Supposed a native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Styles, Tonbridge. LANCASHIRE. 21 — Ormskirk ( County).— For stealing a silver English lever watch, silver dial, gold numerals, steel hands, maker, " Liddit, Bold Street, Liverpool," back case engraved, " T. H. H." scratched on inside case, thick white metal chain, curb pattern, plain white metal sovereign ease, and watch key attached; 1 9 ct. gold engagement ring, set 3 white and 4 red stones; and £ 2 10s. 6d. GAYTHORNE, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair ( slightly bald on crown) brown ( turning grey), moustache sandy ( waxed at ends), broad nose, slight fleshy growth on one side, ring tattooed on one finger; dress, black rough thick tweed coat and vest, dark trousers, green soft felt hat, laoe boots, grey over- coat with leather pockets, also had a light cap. ( Supposed identical with Man described in Case No. 39, 6th inst.). GAYTHORNE, age about 26, height 5 fit.., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light brown; dress, grey skirt, white belt, grey flannel blouse, long grey coat, light grey motor can, black veil, low lace boots, high heels, wore drop, crystal earrings. They called at a house at Aughton, 5th inst., stated their motor car had broken down, and asked if they could stay the night, left the following morning in a motor car for Liverpool. Warrant issued. Hodgson, Ormskirk. 22 — Salford ( Borough).— For failing to report Supervisee EDWARD BROLEY, alias THOMAS FALVEY, Office No. 1356- 06, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown ( turning grey), eyes hazel, scar behind left ear. A bricklayer; native of Liverpool. Sentenced at Middlesex Sessions, 4th July, 1903, to 4 years penal servitude and 3 years supervision for burglary. Liberated on subsequent sentence, 2nd September last, d 410. For failing to report— Licence- holder JOHN WILSON, alias GREEN, LITTLEWOOD. THOMPSON, WALLACE, NEWTON, NEW- MAN, and PARKER, Offioe No. 203- 01, age 43, height 5 ft. 5i in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar left eyebrow. A dealer; native of Gloucester. Sentenced at Wigan Quarter Sessions, 26th July, 1905, to 3 years penal servi- tude and remanet of former sentence for false pretences. Expires 30th September, 1909. b f 293. LINCOLNSHIRE. 23. — Grimsby ( Borough).— For stealing, 13th ult., 2 pairs of boots ( 1 pair glaoe Derby, " Waukerz " on top band and loop)— WILLIAM FAULKNALL, age about 55, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion and moustache dark, impediment in speech ; dress, dark jacket suit and cap.— GEORGE WESTERMAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., inclined to be stout, complexion fair; dress, brown jacket, trousers and cap. He belongs to the Army Reserve. Both are boot repairers. Warrant issued. 24.— Grimsby ( Borough).— For stea'ing jewel- lery and clothing from his lodgings, between lst and 24th ult.— JOHN COLES, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion dark, long thin face, long nose, hair and slight moustache dark brown, bad teeth; dress, old blue serge jacket, brown vest, knickers and stockings, green tie and cap, may be wearing an old pepper and salt colour three- quarter length overcoat, " Waby, Clothier, Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby" on tab. A native of Cardiff. Has been in Grimsby about two months selling postcards. Is fond of the company of racing men. Absconded 25th ult. Accompanied by his Wife, age about 28, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., com- plexion and hair dark, long thin face; dress, green costume, green hat, trimmed brown, usually carries a small black velvet bag. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 25.— Abergavenny { County).— For steal- ing a " Royal Enfield " bicycle, girder frame, free wheel, 2 roller brakes, lined red and yellow, raised handle bars, acetylene gas lamp attached— SID- NEY COOK, age about 20, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in , complexion fair, hair light; dress, dark suit, brown cap and boots. He was admitted to the casual ward, 6th inst., and absconded 7th inst., taking the bicycle. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davies, Abergavenny. NORFOLK. 26. — Kings L nn ( Borough).— Fo- deserting his wife and family— HENRY SALT, age 31, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, high cheek bones, large nose, hair and moustache light brown, eyes brown, addicted to drink ; dress, brown coat and vest, dark trousers and cap, light lace boots. SHROPSHIRE. 27.— Ludlow ( Borough). — For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Ludlow Poor Law Union— EDGAR RICHARD JONES, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, pock- marked side of neck, addicted to drink; dress, navy blue or grey suit, black hard hat. STAFFORDSHIRE. 28.— Brier ley Hill ( County).— For obtain- ing 5 tons of seed potatoes and a quantity of seed oats by false pretences, 2nd April, 1908, at Wordsley— FREDERICK BARTY, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., hair and moustache dark brown, pro minent nose, abscess scar left cheek, slightly bow- 1 egged; dress, dark grey, suit, cap. Johnson, Brierley Hill. 29. — Burton- on- Trent ( County). — For stealing from his lodgings, 30th ult., a ladyfs silver Geneva watoh, figured dial, steel hands, engraved case, flowered pattern; 1 do. Abyssinian gold watch, keyless hunter, white dial, steel hands, " F. V." engraved on front of outer case; 1 Abyssinian gold watch, keyless hunter, white dial, steel hands; 1 small pendant, rolled gold, photo- graph of General Booth on glass— A. E. SHAIN, age about 37, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown ( turning grey), clean shaved, front unt> er teeth artificial and prominent; dress, grey Norfolk jacket and trousers, fancy vest with red and green spots, grey around hat, brown boots, ring on 3rd left finger. Moss, Burton- on- Trent. 30 —# ich field ( County).— For stealing £ 28 from his lodgings at Hednesford, 4th inst.— THOMAS JARVIS, age 29, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, flowers and eagle tattooed left forearm, coat of arms and dagger right do., tomb 6tone and snake back right hand, 2 snakes around neck, 2 birds each side, addicted to drink, fond of horse racing; dress, dark blue serge suit, blue Melton overcoat, velvet collar, green striped scarf, dark brown striped cap, lace boots. In possession of his naval discharge papers. A miner; native of Hed- nesford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Barrett, Lichfield. 31. — Stoke- on- Trent ( County). — For fowl stealing, 6th inst., also for sheep stealing and maiming pigs on other dates— ALBERT LOWE, age about 31, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., oomplexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache ( very thick) light, recent cut scar outside left thumb ; dress, dark tweed jacket, vest, and cap, cord trousers ( blue or dark brown), muffler, heavy nailed boots, may be wearing an overcoat. Orking ( County).— For stealing, 19th inst., at Newdigate, a free wheel bicycle, enamelled red, blue lines, flat handle bars, white grips, plated rims ( rusty), Dunlop tyres, rat trap pedals, roller chain, plated lamp, lamp bracket off front fork, 1 back spoke missing, iron mudguarde ( rusty), " W. C. Potter, Cycle Maker, Rusper, Sussex," on transfer on head. 20th ult., a bicycle ( re- covered)— PERCY PAYNE, age 26, height 5 ft. 10 in., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair light, 2 scars left middle finger; dress, grey jacket and trousers, white vest, black stripes, light jockey cap. A groom or stableman; native of Fiddleworth, Sussex. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Boon, Dorking. SUSSEX ( East). 33.— Hove ( Borough).— For stealing jewellery value £ 60— EMILIE RUBIE, alias LOUIE PILOTTI ( supposed an Italian), age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair ( wavy) and eyes dark brown. A waiter. Was discharged from Prison in September, 1907, supposed to have been convicted of forgery. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hove. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 84.— Cheltenham ( County).—- For stealing from his lodgings, 4th inst., a brown leather purse, containing £ 1 4s.; 1 plain gold ring; 3 silver marrow spoons; 1 silver toothpick; 1 silver pencil case; and a quantity of old coins ( gold and silver) — SAMUEL HEWSON, Office No. 1526- 08 ( Case No. 22, 30th ult.), age 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes dark, clean shaved, scar left eyebrow, several upper teeth missing; dress, dark blue serge suit, blue tie, hard felt hat, wearing ring 4th left finger and gold coloured watch chain, bronze medal attached. A native of Bristol. Stated he was one of Dr. Barnardo's boys, that he had been a ship's steward ( produced a discharge), but that he was now a clerk on the G. W. Railway, and had been trans- ferred here. ( Believed to be identical with G. H. Thompson, wanted at Coventry for a similar offence). Has been convicted at Ystrad, Bristol, Trowbridge, and Great Yarmouth. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. DEVONSHIRE. £ 3 3s.
