BtuGtrix All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating tu them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must he clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by thi signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer o1 police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, at the case may be. osrs. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an cfficei of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. ° 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranyed by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any snbsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. SPECIAL NOTICE. The amount of stolen property at present " circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Informationsand Pawnbrokers' Listsof all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding Lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion " of the particulars they contain is not desired. The same course will be followed with respect te property lost and persons missing. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. A native of Barking. Warrant issued. 2.— R flivision.— For stealing, 14th inst., from officers' quarters, Cambridge Barracks, Wool- wich, a gold watch and chain; 1 gold match box; 1 gold sovereign purse, containing £ 1 10s.; and a silver watch in leather wristlet, crest, a dragon on gold— Licence- holder FREDERICK TASNEY, alias TERRY, Office No. 2824- 00, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., oomplexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, scar back of right hand and under right eye; dress, blue serge suit and cap, brown canvas shoes, may be wearing military officer's uniform. A native of Woolwich. 3.— T Division.— For obtaining Is. by false pretences, llth ult.— ALBERT EDWARD OAT- WAY, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache light, eyes blue; dress, light check jacket suit and cap. A native of Ashstead, Surrey. He called upon mem- bers of an Assurance Association and collected subscriptions by falsely representing that he was authorised to do so. Warrant issued. CITY OF LONDON. 4. — For stealing ( servant) £ 15 — DAVID FRANKS, age 35, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, complexion dark, hair ( curly) dark brown, mous- tache light brown, eyies grey, quiet demeanour; dress, dark grey suit, green tie, black speckled stockings, black bowler hat, lace boots, wore a ring set garnets on left little finger. A clerk; native of London. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Stark, 26 Old Jewry, E. C. A YRSHIRE. 5.— Troon { County).— For stealing from the person, £ 19, 16th inst.— WILLIAM CROMP- TON, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., oomplexion fresh, hair brown, moustache sandy, Scotch dialect, ad- dicted to drink; dress, dark grey jacket suit, dark tie, light grey tweed cap, brown lace boots. A butcher, may seek employment as a barman or waiter. Frequents race meetings. Left here on Nth inst. for Stockton. Previously convicted of fraud at Ayr, November, 1907; of larceny at Glasgow, January, 1908; and at Ayr, April, 1908. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr. A hawker of linoleum; native of Battersea. An associate of horse copers, well acquainted with Windsor. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Warrant withdrawn. 8.— Reading ( Borough).— For obtaining, 17th inst., a gold watch ( recovered)— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion sunburnt, hair and slight moustache dark; dress, grey jacket suit. Of military appearance. He called at a jeweller's shop and represented himself to be a Colour- Sergeant of the Royal Berks Regiment, stationed at Reading, and obtained a watch on the pretence that it was to be presented by the members of the Sergeants' Mess to a sergeant who was about to retire on pension, and pledged the watch here on the same date in the name of " William Montague, 29 Beastfair, Pontefract." Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. 9.— Windsor ( Borough).— For stealing, 20th inst., a silver Waltham lever watch, white dial, steel hands ( long one broken), " E. E. C." emgraved on back of case; 1 silver graduated curb chain, silver seal in form of a lion attached; 1 long silver pencil case; 1 pearl handle pocket knife, 2 blades ( 1 for trimming nails) ; 1 pair 6teel framed spectacles; 2 wooden pipes ( 1 has silver ferrule round top); 1 black handled hollow ground razor; 1 light brown stick— ALBERT EDWARD GRADDEN, alias GLADDEN, age 36, height 5 ft. 2i in., oomplexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, clean shaved, rose, shamrock, and thistle tattooed on right forearm; 2 T H E POLICE GAZETTE. BRECONSHIRE. 10.— Brynmawr ( County).— For embezzling £ 7 SEYMOUR, alias SEIFRESS, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, blotchy face, hair and moustache dark, right thumb deficient; dress, dark coat, red vest, greyish breeches, black leather leggings, lace boots, pointed toes, brown soft felt hat. A photographer's canvasser. Well known in Cardiff, Bristol, Rhonddu Valley, and Bargoed. Warrant issued. 11. — Brynma wr ( County). — For stealing greengrocery— WILLIAM JOHN LEWIS, alias EVAXS, age about 80, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, high shoulders, complexion, hair, and mous- tache dark, stoops when walking. Generally em- ployed by fruiterers and fishmongers; a native of Pontlottyn, Glamorgan. Well known in several towns in Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire. Warrant i » « u « d. A native of Warrington. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Okell, Altrincham. DORSETSHIRE. 13. — Poole ( County).— For obtaining goods ( groceries) and money, 15th inst., by a worthless cheque— W. H A). A labourer; native of Bishop Stortford. Discharged fiom the Royal Garrison Artillery at Yarmouth, September, 1907. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Epping. ~\ 5.— Southend[- on - Sea ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 27th ult., £ 6; a bag and a quantity of bells— LOUIS FREELAND, age 35, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion fresh, face long and thin, hair light brown, eyes hazel; dress, brown mixture jacket and trousers, fancy wool vest, straw hat, usually wears South African ribbon, has been in the Army. An ad- vance agent; native of Manchester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend- on- Sea. FLINTSHIRE. 16.— Holy well ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 1 14s.— FRANK CONDON, alias PETER CON- DON, supposed an Irishman, age 32 to 35, height 5 ft. 9i in., complexion and eyes dark, hair and moustache dark brown, strong Irish accent. He was employed as hotel boots at Rhyl and Llandudno. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Holywell. GLA MO RGA NSHIRE. 17.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 6 — HENRY MORRIS, alias PATON ( correct name supposed WHITEMAN), age 26, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., strong build, complexion dark, large nose, long face and chin^ hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, female left fore- arm, ship back of right hand, long body, of pugilistic appearance, slightly knock- kneed, London accent; dress, grey pepper and salt colour suit, nearly new. Supposed a native of Waltham- stow. May be found at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. 18— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining money by a forged cheque— G. WALL, alias HARRY MARKS and W. MARTIN, age about 45, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair and moustache black, eyes brown, believed a half- cast; dress, blue serge coat, dungaree coat, grey trousers, and cap, silk shepherd's plaid tie. He left behind a coat with " The London and Provincial Tailors, Ltd., Portburys Corner, Southampton," on tab. Cheques which he forged and uttered were ob- tained by him on 2nd June, 1908, at Farrow's Bank, Ltd., 214 Commercial Street, Langport, and gave the name of John William Pyle. Has been a boatswain. Warrant issued. 9 — Cardiff ( City).— For larceny— K A T E WILKINSON, alias WILSON, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 in,, slight build, complexion fair, long thin face, hair dark brown, eyes dark grey, large feet, which she turns outwards when walking; wearing long heliotrope coat, black hat with tip at side. A shirt ironer. Accompanied by a Girl, age 9, eyes crossed; wearing long dark speckled coat, navy blue sailor hat. Warrant issued. 20 — Cardiff ( City). -' For absconding with workhouse clothing— JOHN WELSH, age 51, height 5 ft. 6 in., stiff build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache grey; dress, dark tweed coat and vest, cord trousers, cap, blucher boots. A labourer.— THOMAS HENRY TWINING, age 63, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, sunken cheeks, moustache and eyes grey; dress, new dark tweed suit, cap, blucher boots, all stamped " Cardiff Union Workhouse." A stone mason. May be found at casual wards or common lodging houses. Warrants issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cardiff. GL OUCES TERSHIRL . 21.— Cheltenham ( County). — For stealing, 21st inst., from his lodgings, a lady's open face silver Geneva watch, No. 34095, black numerals and hands, white face, gold dots— WILLIAM SANTEFORD COX, alias ERNEST COX and JAMES LAMBERT, age 27, height 5 ft. 6£ in., complexion pale, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, blue dot right forearm, 3 do. left, pock- mark on forehead, boil mark on shoulder; dress, dark jacket and vest ( old and worn), dark grey trousers, old white straw hat, lace boots. A can- vasser; native of Bristol. He was employed by a firm of photographers at Bristol. May seek similar employment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. HAMPSHIRE. 22.— Aldershot ( County).- For stealing, 8th inst., £ 8 10s. 3d.— WILLIAM JAMES ASH, age 22, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes brown; dress, blue serge suit, straw hat, green band. A deserter from the 2nd Glou- cester Regiment. In possession of a " Swift" bicycle, " A. Ainsworth, Romford." on tube. 28.— Aldershot ( County).— For stealing, 8th inst., a light grey tweed suit, " Anderson, Coney St." on tab of jacket and trouser buttons — LEONARD SIMPSON, age 19, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, tattooed bust of woman and peacock left arm, woman in tights right forearm; dress, probably the stolen clothes. An absentee from the 2nd Yorkshire Light Infantry. Information to Supt Hawkins, Aldershot. H.— Andover ( County)— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered) GIBBS, age 24, height 5 ft. in., rather round shoulders, complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes brown. A native of London. Is a deserter from the 3rd Rifle Brigade, wearing khaki uniform. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bowles, Andover. 25. — RingWOOd ( County).—, For obtaining £ 20, by false pretences, 19th' inst. — ALFRED SIMMONS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( wavy and slightly bald on top) light, moustache ( turned up at ends) light brs> wn, eyes grey, foreign accent; dress, dark grey suit, straw hat with green band, brown button boots. A painter. Had with him a brown Glad- stone bag, containing a painter's suit and a navy blue suit. Absconded 20th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Mayes, Ringwood. 26 — Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing a Railway Warrant and 2 money orders ( forg- ing signature and cashing orders for £ 120)— BENJAMIN ERNEST FORROW, age 21, height 5 ft. 7 in., oomplexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown, left foot deformed, limps; dress, dark tweed suit, black bowler hat. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HER TFORDSHIRE. 27.— St. Albans ( County).- For stealing £ 4 8s. 8d., 24th inst.— J. W. GREENWOOD, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion ruddy, sharp features, hair light brown, of good address; dress, blue serge or dark striped suit, cap or straw hat. A good shorthand writer and typist; supposed a native of London. He was employed as a clerk, 17th inst., and absconded 24th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Turner, St. Albans. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 28.— Stanground ( County).— For stealing, 12th inst., a youth's dark overcoat, striped, vertical pockets, light weight, good condition; 1 new black silk neckerchief, about 1 yard square; 1 pair grey woollen socks— JOHN ALLMAN, age 34, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, hair and mous- tache light brown; dress, blue serge jacket, grey vest, greenish trousers, greenish mixture cap. A farm labourer; native of Norwich. May be found tramping the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wilson, Stanground, Peter- borough. 29.— St. NeotS ( County).— For stealing, 10th inst., from his lodgings at Yelling, a silver lever waltch and chain — FRED MATTHEWS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 3 to 5 in., stiff build, hair brown, clean shaved, 1 front upper tooth missing; dress, dark grev suit and cap, coloured necker- chief, lace boots, pointed toes, wearing watch and chain with 1 Kruger 2s. piece, 1 coin with eagle one side and man's head tho other, and 1 four- pennypiece attached. He obtained food and lodg- ings, 8th inst., by representing himself to be an insurance agent employed by an assurance com- pany of Manchester. Supposed identical with man, Case No. 31, 14th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Storey, St. Neots. KENT. 30 — Sittingbourne ( County)— For stealing, 18 th inst., from H. M. S. Tartery at Sheemess, 2 blank cheques, Nos. G. over A. 2639 and 2640, drawn on Messrs. Child & Co.' s Bank, No. 1 Fleet Street, London— PERCY HOLLINGDALE, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 10 in., rather round shoulders, complexion dark, clean shaved, of dull appearance; dress, blue serge suit, cap. A native of Colchester. An officer's steward. Is a deserter from the Royal Navy. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Crowhurst, Sittingbourme. 81 — Dover ( Borough).— For stealing £ 14 0s. 2d., and obtaining about £ 100 by false pretences— PHILIP FELIX JAUNUEY, age 28, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion very pale, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, high cheek bones, turns his left foot in when walking; dress, navy blue or brown suit, and hard hat. An insurance agent; supposed native of Birmingham. Left Dover, 6th inst., accompanied by a woman, age 23, short, hair ginger, and a child, age 18 months. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dover. 32 — Ramsgate ( Borough).— For embezzling 15th inst., 10s. 9d.— GEORGE BUSH, alias BUCKTHORPE, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sunburnt, clean shaved; dress, old dark suit, dark cap. Supposed a native of London, and invalided from the Army. May be found at seaside resorts, employed by minstrel troupes. Absconded 15th inst. In possession of a bicycle, B. S. A. fittings, 1 in. pitch roller chain, 28 m. frame, celluloid mud guards, front tied with stringj, V shaped handle bars, Celtic cover back wheel, Warwick front wheel, thumb front brake, pull up lever back brake, large bell ( 3 in. across) attached. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. * 83 — Tunbridge Wells ( Borough).— JACK RUSSELL, alias JONES and QUEENIE RUS- SELL, alias JONES, Case No. 14, lst April, 1904, not now wanted. BACK, age 23, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar left of forehead, tombstone and faint tattoo marks left forearm, clasped hands and heart right forearm; dress, dark grey mixture suit, grey cap, lace boots. A native of Barnsley, Yorks. ( See Case No. 7, 21st inst.) Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. DERBYSHIRE. 35 — P enishaw ( County).— For wounding two Police Officers, 8th inst., at Totley— THOMAS WILTSHIRE, alias WILSHAW, age 34, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown, eyes grey, small scar on chin, 2 scars right side of neck, may have a wound on head; dress, supposed dark suit and cap. A native of Sheffield. He hawks oilcloth, which he carries, sometimes uses a handcart. May be found in company of hawkers or poachers. Stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrew, Reniehaw, near Chesterfield. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 36.— 5 Division .— For obtaining money by worthless cheques on the London and South- western Bank, Earl's Court Branch— GEORGE STANTON TRELOAR, alias THEODORE CAMPBELL and COULSON, Office No. S 74073 ( Case No. 37, 21st June, 1907), age 58, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair ( bald on crown) grey, eyes bluish- grey; dress, light suit and cap, sometimes wears frock coat and silk hat. He calls on the principals of boarding and high- class schools, represents that he is alt- ached to the Civil Service or an Indian Bank, and has 2 sons or daughters he wishes to place at the School, discusses terms, makes arrangements, and requests that the account may be made for the next day. He calls as arranged, states he has been suddenly re- called to India, and wishes to settle about the children.
