ICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressnl to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. fi. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of en graving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 6. lOMTti. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an cfficn of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a numlier. and ax far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, cm their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received iiot later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. FINGER PRINTS. / v UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( a) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( b) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with out option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens' Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. LAWSON, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion pale, hair ( very bushy) black, small moustache dark; dress, dark blue suit, white fancy vest, red stripe, hard hat or green cap, brown boots. Carried a green overcoat and brown bag; wearing a gold ring left hand. He calls on small shopkeepers, stating he is a representative of a firm of chocolate manufacturers, Bristol, and asks for orders for show cases, which will be sent on payment of a deposit of 5s. OA MBRIDGES HIRE. 14. — Cambridge ( Borough).— For obtaining board and lodgings by false pretences, 16th and 17th inst.— FRED WOODS ( supposed false), age about 30, height about 5 ft. 5 in., freckled face, hair light, clean shaved, front upper teeth pro- minent; dress, light grey suit, grey striped overcoat, blue wrapper, lace boots, silver colour chain with medal attached. Had with him a blue cap. He took lodgings and stated he was a shunter on the Great Eastern Railway, and had been transferred from Ely. After he left, the following articles were missed: a navy blue single- breasted jacket, black bone buttons, makers, " Smart & Son, Cambridge " on tab, a Medical Institute card in one pockeft; 1 red and violet silk handkerchief. CHESHIRE. 16.— Liscard ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a horse and harness— SPUD MURPHY, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion and hair dark, 6eal mark one side of neck; dress, dark tweed suit and cap, muffler, lace boots. Attends horse sales and auction marts. He was entrusted with the horse and harness to take to Liverpool, but disposed of same and decamped. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Liscard. 17.— Middlewicb ( County).— For f iling to appear to a summons for assaulting Police— LEVI KNAPPER, age 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., very stout build, complexion fresh, very full face, hair dark, clean shaved; dress, shabby clothes, muffler, clogs. DORSETSHIRE. 21.— Dorchester ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, lst inst., a cheque on the Wilts and Dorset Bank, No. 18884— WALTER HONEY- BUN, age 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, 2 scars left of forehead, girl's head on chest, man and lion, heart and dagger left forearm, Red Indian, clasped hands, and star right forearm; dress, brown mixture coat and vest, dark grey trousers, dark cap. ESSEX. 2' 3.— Braintree ( County).— For stealing, at Bocking, 18th ult., a bicycle ( recovered)— WIL- LIAM RICHARD ALDRED, age 32, height 5 ft. 6in ., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, eyes hazel, addicted to drink, tattoo marks on chest and arms; dress, dark tweed suit, black hard felt hat. Terry, Braintree. 24.— Colchester ( County).- For obtaining £ 5 10s. by false pretences, at Dovercourt, 11th inst. — FREDERICK W. POPE COX, age 60, height 6 ft., slight build, complexion fresh, hair ( nearly white) grey, eyes ( supposed) grey, stoops slightly, well educated, addicted to drink; dress, dark cape mackintosh coat, dark jacket, grey or light check trousers, light cap. Had in his possession a cheque book, and has cashed cheques on the Capital and Counties Bank, Ramsgate, signed " J. H. Harper." Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ackers, Colchester, or to Inspector Coppin, Harwich. 25.— Witham ( County).— For stealing, 12th inst., a Church Army Uniform overcoat and £ 3 10s. — JOHN RICHARDS, age 49, height 5 ft. 5in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, moustache fair, may be clean shaved, heart tattooed on chest, figure on both forearms, one toe damaged; dress, dark suit, " Foster & Co., London acd Oxford," on trousers buttons, narrow fine plaid pattern tie, grey cap. Supposed a native of Edmonton, London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lennon, Witham. GLAMORGA NSHIRE. ' IS — Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences— S. LAWSON, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, round face, hair very uark, moustache dark, heavy eyebrows, eyes darn brown, pleasant manner, Bristol aocent; dress, < lark brown suit, snuff colour showerproof coat, black bowler hat, lace boots, wore a heavy gold colour albert across chest. He calls upon shop- keepers, represents that he is in the employ of a Bristol lirin, obtains orders for show cases, and asks for deposits, stating the cases will be forwarded in a few days. ( Is believed identical with S. Smith, Cas © No. 44, 22nd November, 1907.) Warrant issued. 27 — Cardiff ( City).— For embezzling' 7s. Id.— WILLIAM GEORGE BA1SH, age 18, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion dark, round face, hair dark brown, eyes brown; dress, dark brown striped jacket and trousers, black vest, dark cap. A laundry van driver. Absconded 25th May last. May be found working in a colliery in South vVales. Warrant issued. 28. — Cardiff ( City).— For embezzlement — CHARLES GREEN, alias CHARLES PERCY GREEN, age 34, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin face, hair ( bald on top) brown, slight moustache, large ears; dress, dark mixture suit, black bowler hat, lace boots. He was employed as manager of a boot and shoe busi- ness. He stated his intention of committing suicide, but it is believed that he may endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. 29.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining money by false pretences— WALTER HUDSON, age 45, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion ruddy, hair ( thin on top) dark, moustache ( turning grey) black, eyes brown, heavy eyebrows, short nose, very bow- legged, top of right fore- finger missing; dress, dark coat and vest, sup- posed light trousers, greengrey cap. A pastry cook. He advertised for a lady with means to communicate with him with a view to becoming a partner in business, obtained a sum of money, and absconded, 8th inst. Had with him a tin box packed in light paper. Warrant issued. 30 — Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a lady's gold neck chain, gold locket ( one side black en- amelled) attached; 1 do. gold dress ring, set several stones, centre stone pink; 1 gold buckle ring, " In Memoriam " thereon; 1 silver bracelet, gold plated, chased top, safety chain broken; 1 lady's silver waist belt buckle— H. EDWARDS, age about 35, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fair, small features, hair and moustache ( waxed at ends) red, eyes blue, walks quickly, large cut scar '' inside left thumb from web to nail; dress, navy blue suit, light cap, blue tie, gold horse shoe pat- tern pin, set pearls. Stated he was a motor car traveller, and came from Bristol, 15th inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. 31 — Neath ( Borough).— For stealing, 7th inst., clothing ( recovered)— WILLIAM MILLS, alias WILLIAM DAYIES, age 38 to 44, height about 6 ft., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown ; dress, navy blue serge suit, bowler hat. Stated he was a police officer, speaks Welsh and English. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Neath. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 32.— Staple Hill ( County).— For obtaining 2 bankers' cheques, 1 Post Office Order, and £ 3 3s. by false pretences, 29th ult., at Winterbourne— HENRY WALKER, age about 38, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, Roman nose, slightly bow legged, London accent; dress, dark clothes, black bowler hat, brown boots, has been a traveller in pipes, cigars and cigarettes. CITY OF LONDON. 88.— For stealing^ 166 9s.— EDMUND ERNEST WARD, age 18, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue; dress, blue serge jacket, dark blue striped tweed vest and trousers, dark mixture bow tie, white straw hat, green band, lace boots. A jeweller's clerk; native of London. Warrant issued. £ 10 REWARD. 84.— For stealing ( servant) £ 250, 4th inst.— WILLIAM HENRY CRAWFORD, age 31, height 5^ ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair ( wavy, cut short) dark blown, clean shaved, square jaw dimple in chin, eyes bright blue ; dressed smartly. A butcher's manager. Is stouter than in photograph, which was taken 5 years ago. The above reward will be paid by Mr. John Alexander, 17 and 18, Bishopsgate Street, E. C., for the apprehension of Crawford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Stark, 26 Old Jewry, E C.: FIFESHIP5E. 35.— Cupar ( County).— For embezzling £ 70, between lst ult. and lst inst.— JOHN FORBES, age 31, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark; dress, black suit ( waiter's), black hard felt hat, brown boots. Is a Reservist of the Royal Highlanders. He was employed as manager and club master of the Golf House Club, Burntisland. ( See Case No. 17, 10th inst.) Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cupar. CARNARVONSHIRE. 30 Carnarvon ( County).— For an offence under the Bankruptcy Act— WILLIAM JONES, age 48, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, dimples in cheek, hair ( turning grey) anil moustache ( waxed at ends) light brown, eyes blue, generally wears gold height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair very thiD with bald patches, eyes light grey. Warrant issued. A reward of £ 3 will be paid bv the Festiniog Union for the arrest of Pritchard. Information to Supt. Jones, Pwllheli rimmed glasses, point of nose tinned up and sides arched back, nasil speech: dress, grey flannel suit, white straw hat with blue bind, curried a stick and brown hand bag Recently in business as a butcher at Southampton. PERSONS IN CUSTODY. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 109.— Wolverhampton ( Borough). - Con- victed, 16th inst., on 2 charges of stealing bicycles, and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment on each ( to run consecutively)— ALFRED JAMES KNIGHTS, alios JAMES JOHNSON and BLAKEMORE. During the last 3 months a con- siderable number of bicycles have been stolen in this Borough, and it is strongly suspected that this man had several confederates. The bicycles were sold at Birmingham, Handsworth, and West Bromwich, and in each case the above produced receipts, which he purported, represented the amount? paid bv him for same, bearing various dates. These receipts were on printed memoran- dum forms, bearing the name, " James MacKenzie & Co., Cycle Manufacturers, Agents, and Engi- neers, 58, 60, 62, and 64 Oldhani Street, Wolver- hampton," or " Allen Foster & Co., Cycle Manufacturers and Motor Experts, 33, 35, and 37 Silver Street, Leicester." In each instanoe the receipts represented the approximate value of the machine when new, viz., £ 17 17s., £ 6 15s., and £ 12 15s., respectively. Information to the Chief Constable, Wolver- hampton.
