All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THB EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed bil the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ATIOKTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZF. TTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. Is known at Chichester, Worth- ing, and Sheffield. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 2. — J Division.— For fraudulently mis- appropriating £ 65— JOHN FREESTONE, age 46, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache light ( turning grey), eyes grey, of military appearance; dress, dark suit, grey over- coat and cap, brown leggings. A native of Shepton Mallet, Somersetshire. Warrant issued. 3. — J Division.— For obtaining a No. 5 Remington typewriter, No. 2222, by a worthless cheque, No. A 896361, on the London and South- western Bank, Vauxhall Branch— MAURICE CHARLES, age 25, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue, 2 front teeth project; dress, dark overcoat and trousers, black hard felt hat, black woollen gloves. Warrant issued. i.— S Division.— For obtaining 3 mares by a worthless cheque— ROBERT HUMPHRIES, age 40, height 5 ft. 6 to 8 in., complexion) pale, hair dark brown, suffering from rheumatism, walka with two sticks; dress, light suit, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. 5. — x Division.— For stealing ( servant) a blue straw hat, trimmed red roses, and a quantity of jewellery— MINNIE CHURCHILL, age about 22, height 5 ft., complexion fresh, full red face, high cheek bones, hair dark, eves blue, slight deformity of nose; supposed wealing dark clothes and the stolen hat. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. 6.— For embezzling £ 500— ALFRED HANIBAL MILLIS, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair ( long and wavy) and eyes dark, large prominent ears, slouch- ing gait, large feet, slightly bow- legged; dress, blue serge jacket and trousers ( tight fitting), fancy striped vest, black tie. A bank clerk. In posses- sion of a large sum of money. Absconded 25th ult. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 7.— For stealing ( servant) £ 16 12s. Id.— WIL- LIAM ALBERT EDWARD EDWARDS, age 19, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion fair, thin face, hair light, slightly turned up nose; dress, blue serge suit, wearing pince- nez. BEDFORDSHIRE. 8.— Bedford ( Borough).— For stealing, 22nd ult., a " Rudge- Whitworth" Road Racing bicycle, No. 449991, nearly new; 1 " Rudge- Whitworth" bicycle, " Rudge- Whitworth" fittings throughout, 23 in. frame, 2 inverted lever brakes, black enamelled — EDWARD BOWLER, age 19, height 5 ft. 4 in., stiff build, complexion fresh, full face, clean shaved, " Ethel " on left, bowler and anchor tat- tooed on right wrist; dresa, grey suit and cap, composition collar and front, brown lace boots. A baker. Recently discharged from the Royal Garri- son Artillery at Brighton. Formerly an inmate of the Boys' Home, East Barnet. 9.— Bedford ( Borough).— For stealing bicycle, Case No. 58, 10th ult. ( recovered)— DANIEL REYNOLDS, alias FRITZ RUSE, and LOPEZ RYNVELD, age 22 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 in., strong build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, clean shaved, powerful jaws, thick neck, one upper tooth missing, scar right wrist; dress, greenish mixture Norfolk jacket, brown or white sweater, grey striped trousers, grey cap. For the past two years he has performed on foot- ball fields and at athletic sports, previously per- formed at music- halls. Ho usually fastens 3 ordinary chairs together, raises them above his head ( by his teeth), while riding a bicycle. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bedford. BUCKING HA MS HIRE. 10. — Slough ( County).— On a commitment warrant, for non- payment of £ 1 18s., fine and costs for using a locomotive, 28th November last, with- out payment of fee— GEORGE PETTIGROYE, age about 36, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light; wearing very greasy clothes and cap. A roundabout proprietor. Drives an old brown locomotive, drawin'g 3 trucks loaded with roundabout tackle, accompanied by 5 or 6 horse- drawn vans and a light spring cart. 11.— SlOUgh ( County).— For failing to appear to a summons, 11th ult., at Ivor, Bucks, for larceny ( 2 cases)— FREDERICK LUKE QUINION, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., thick set, slightly round shoulders, complexion pale, hair and moustache ( slight) brown, eyes hazel, good teeth, project slightly, scar over right eye, centre of forehead, slightly mentally deficient; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, grey trousers, blue tie, dark grey cap. A house painter; native of Uxbridge, Middlesex. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 12.— Slough ( County).— For stealing ( servant), 14th ult., a gold curb bracelet, gold rattle with coral handle, gold heart, set pearls and turquoise, small gold frog, set turquoise, and small pair opera glasses, attached; 1 gold bangle, chased ivy leaves; 1 gold curb brooch, about ins. long, 2 pearl hearts apd true lover'i knot at top; 1 pearl handled bread fork, twisted prongs, silver knot top of handle; 6 plated dinner forks; 6 dinner knives, 1 rivet at bottom of handles, supposed " Joseph Haywood & Co., Manu- facturers, Sheffield," and kettle on blades, or " Harding & Sons, London "; several small knives; 1 hem- stitched linen sheet, very large, " H " with flowers entwined in fancy work in centre; 1 linen sheet ( new), may be marked " Hill " in ink in corner; 2 brown leather brief bags; 1 pair lady's brown glace kid riding boots, tops lined pale blue silk; 1 pair lady's black glace kid boots, size 3; 1 pair black glace kid boots, size 8— ADA CRONIN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft.. 7 or 8 in., rather broad shoulders, complexion very fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, of good address; dress, dark serge bodice and skirt, black hat, trimmed chiffon, large feather at side, or felt hat with black spotted veil, brown fur, shoes. A native of Taunton, Somerset. Ac- companied by her Husband, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair brown, pointed mous- tache light, nose deformed, apparently having had bridge broken, strong Irish accent; dress, brown jacket suit, trousers too long, black felt hat or black and white check cap. They call at Registry Offices, obtain situations ( woman as general servant, man to look after a horse), stay about a week, commit larceny and decamp. Warrant issued. 13-— Slough ( County).— For barstardy arrears — ARTHUR ACKERMAN, age 26 or 27, height about 5 ft. 10 in., strong build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( small) dark brown, excitable, talks very quickly. Is a Reservist of the Leinster Regiment. Was employed as a canvasser for a London firm; supposed a native of Reading, Berks. Accompanied by his Wife, who is much older, and believed to be a pensioned officer of the Metro- politan Asylums Board. Warrant issued. Not to be arreeted out of the United Kingdom. 14-— Slough ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, a lady's coat and skirt; and 8a., at Wraysbury, Bucks, 3rd ult.— A WOMAN, age 2 APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued — about 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion ( lark, hair ( plaited over forehead) black; dress, black skirt, grey mixture three- quarter length jacket, black leghorn hat, trimmed black ribbon. A gipsy, hawks ferns. Stated that her husband had been killed by a motor car, and that the owner had given her £ 50, and was getting her 2 children into a home, and that she wanted the money to pay their fare to the home. Left Wrays- bury, 3rd inst., by South- Western Railway for Ashford, Middlesex, without paying her fare. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearman, Slough. " Joy " left forearm, bracelet left wrist, heart and triangle back left hand, dancing girl and snake around tree right forearm. A tailor; native of Manchester. Has been convicted at Leeds ( 1904) and Altrincham ( 1906).— HARRY CONNELL, alias HOLCROFT, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 in., rather long features, clean shaved, eczema right check; dress, brownish suit, green cap. A native of Leeds. Information to the Chief Constable, Macclesfield. DORSETSHIRE. 21.— Weymouth ( Borough). — For » tealing ( bailee), 24th ult., a plain cremc Japanese silk slip; 1 creme crepoline skirt, trimmed deep sections of applique lace round bottom; 3 pairs cellular knickers, wide legs, " Aertex" sewn on each; 3 Loudon'' engraved inside— RICHARD JACK- cellular camisoles, lace yokes; 1 nainsook camisole, ^ CHESHIRE. 15.— Chester ( County).— For stealing a silver keyless carriage stop watch, makers " Daniels, SON, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair lignt, clean shaved, eyes grey; dress, dark grey suit, hard felt hat, lace boots; may be wearing the stolen watch. A footman. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hicks, Chester. 16.— Crewe ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle— JOE HARGREAVES, age 23, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., . complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( well over forehead), clean shaved, eyes brown, thick lips, bridge of nose appears to have been injured, front upper tooth missing, cut scar about 1 in. long left cheek, and back left forearm. 4 dots left forearm; dress, blue serge suit, square cut jacket, red tie ( sailor's knot), small pearl pin, dark plaid cap, brown boots, wearing a gold coloured double chain, watch at each end. A native of Coventry. ( Identical with Man, Cases Nos. 12 and 34, 13th September, 1907.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewo. 17.— Macclesfield ( County).— For house- breaking, at Hurdsfield, 20th ult., and steal- ing a Lady's. 9 ct. gold keyless watch, engraved back, gilt dial; 1 do. long 9 ct. gold chain, small and long links alternately; 1 do. silver Geneva watch, key wind, white dial; 1 plain gold bangle, in. wide ; 1 gold wire bangle; 1 lady's gold neck chain, cross made of brilliants attached; 1 gold ring, set 3 light coloured stones ( centre stone largest); 1 gold wedding ring, very old; 1 9 ct. gold ring, set blue stones; 1 lady's gold keeper ring, old; 1 George shilling, in fair condition; 1 do. sixpence, well worn and bent; 1 silver bank token; 1 postal order for 10s., issued at Spring Gardens, Buxton, payable to and signed by E. Barker, Hurdsfield, order has been cashed, but not stamped as to date of pay- ment; 1 watch chain, made of lady's hair, with gold bands, octagon shape, minus swivel; and £ 7 10s.— WALTER COHEN, alias MORRIS YOLES, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair black, eyes grey, female and " Joy " left forearm, bracelet left wrist, heart and triangle back left hand, girl dancing right forearm, snake, tree, and " Morris Yoles" right wrist; wearing dark grey overcoat, black hard hat, gloves. A native of Manchester.— HARRY CORNELL, alias HOL- CROFT, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion pale, hair dark, large eczema mark right cheek; dress, brownish suit, green cap. Supposed a native of Leeds. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Downes, County Police Office, Macclesfield. 18.— Northwich ( County).— For stealing 2 silver watches and a chain— JOHN WILLIAM FRANCIS ( supposed false), age 26, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( worn low on forehead), 1 front upper tooth missing, cut mark left cheek and back left forearm; dress, blue serge suit, square cut jacket, red sailor knot tie, small pearl pin, dark plaid cap, brown boots Stated he was a member of the Salvation Army, and was applying for a situation at local works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooper, Northwich. 19. — Macclesfield ( Borough).— For stealing from his lodgings, 28th ult., a lady's 18 ct. gold watch, " E. J. Bradley" engraved inside case; 1 lady's 9 ct. gold ring, set one white and two red brilliants; 1 keyless gilt watch; 1 silver watch, ring fastened with wire, chased back; 1 9 ct. gold double albert, dog link pattern— A MAN, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin face, hair ( bushy in front) brown, slight moustache, abscess scars under left ear; dress, slate colour mackintosh, three- quarter length, tight- fitting trousers, cap, boots patched in several places. 20.— Macclesfield ( Borough).— For house- breaking and stealing a quantitv of jewellery, 20th ult.— WALTER COHEN, alias YOLES and YULES, a Jew, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion pale, hair black, eyes grey, female and trimmed lace; 1 pair black and pink Alexandra corsets, size 27, " Alexandra and Empire G. D." stamped on waist line— — CLARKE or CARR, age about 28, height about 5 ft. 4 in., stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair dark brown; dress, brown dress, brown picture hat, blue three- quarter length coat, brown boots, wear- ing 2 narrow plain gold bracelets left wrist, 2 do., twisted, right wrist, in possession of a brown or chocolate colour Pomeranian dog. Accompanied by a Man, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion very fresh, hair and heavy mous- tache light; dress, greonish- grey three- quarter length ( light make) overcoat, brown jacket and vest, dark stripe, drab brieechcs, black leather leggings, black bowler hat, supposed to be connected with a Metal Polish Company. The woman visits tradesmen, orders goods ( especially wearing apparel), to be sent to her address, stating she will mako a selection, pay for goods selected, and return the remainder, but decamps with the whole without paying. Had with them 2 dress cases, initials " C. A. C." on one, " A. F." on other, and a small brown hand bag. Absconded 27th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Weymouth. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 22.— Dumfries ( Burgh).— For ob aming £ 2 by false pretences, and stealing a gun- metal watch — DAVID KING, age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache grey, several scars on bald patch top of head, cut scar right cheek; dress, black jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, dark tweed overcoat, velvet collar, green cap, green tie with spots, light lace boots. A labourer and van- man. Is stated to belong to Leith, and to have been trained on a farm colony, afterwards going to India as an Army School- master, may seek similar employment. May seek assistance from charities or admission to homes. Absconded 13th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dumfries. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 2G — Gloucester ( County). — For stealing from a Salvation Army Barracks, bod linen ( recovered)— LIZZIE THOMPSON, alias MAR- GARET WILSON and JACKSON, age 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, several front teeth missing, slight Irish accent ;* dress, black coat and skirt ( much worn), black liat trimmed 2 black feathers, right side, and black ribbon. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. ESSEX. 23. — Epping ( County). — For obtaining ferrets by false pretences— HENRY BARNES, alias C. BAINES, LAURENCE, WHITEHEAD, and W. C. REEVES, Office No. 1454- 98, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, abscess scar back of head, scar behind right ear and back left hand. A sales- m. He advertises in the Exchange and Mart. ( See ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR No. 78, Figure 6). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Epping. 24.— Grays ( County).— For obtaining 3s. 4( 1. by false pretences, 2nd ult.— J. ANDREWS, ag « about 27, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache black, eyes dark, peculiar shaped nose, scar at end; wearing a dark overcoat, black hard felt hat, carried a brown leather bag. He sold some worthless pins and brooches at exorbi tant prices, and pave a receipt on a bill- head, " Andrews & Son, 8 Floreston Street, Mile End, London, Wholesale dealers in French, German, and other Foreign Merchandise," printed thereon false), also took an order for a pound of tobaoco, promising to send it by return of post. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. 25.— Southend ( County)— For stealing, 26th ult., at Leigh- on- Sea, a gold English lever watch " H. W. G." engraved back of case; 1 lady's gold neck chain, close pattern, tied in two places with cotton; 1 cameo brooch, plain gold frame, female sitting at a well, engraved tbereon; 1 masonic medal with bar, " Steward" thereon— A MAN age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 1 in., hair and mous- tache black, of Jewish appearance; wearing dark clothes, bowler hat. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend. HAMPSHIRE. 27 — Southampton ( Borough).— For stealing a bicycle EW1NG, age 22, lioight 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair light, weak eyes, twitches lefit when spoaJring; dross, dark suit and cap, rough patch on bottom of one boot. A native of Toronto. Warrant issued. 28, — Southampton ( Borough}. — For abandoning his child— WILLIAM OVERTON, age 40, height 5 ft. 10J in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache ginger, eyes hazel, both arms extensively tattooed ; dres6, dark grey mixture coat and vest, brown cord trouseirs, dark muffler with red stripes, black round soft felt hat, heavy lace boots. A native of Southampton. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. KENT. 29.— Gravesend ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and child— HORACE FREDERICK CLEMENCE, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., hair dark brown, slight moustache brown, eyes hazel, scar left elbow, sailor's head, heart, and arrow left fore- arm; dressed as a labourer. A native of Kensing- ton. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend. LANCASHIRE. 30. Bury ( County).— For stealing £ 50, 18th ult.— GEORGE HALL, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., round shoulders, complexion rather pale, broad forehead, hair and thin moustache brown, eyes grey; dress, dark grey plaid suit and overcoat, blue muffler, brown felt hat, lace boots, wears a body belt. Has been employed as a storekeeper at engineering works. Supposed a native of Poplar, London. Absconded 18th ult. Warrant issued. 31 — Bury ( County).— For embezzling £ 1 18s., 25th ult.— HARRY HALLIS, age 26, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, stoops, hair black, clean shaved, rather large feet ( right flat); dress, blue suit, dark blue vest with white spots, dark grey overcoat. A photographer. Warrant issued. 32.- Bury ( County).— For stealing, 27th ult., a dark blue serge jacket, 2 slits at back; 1 silver English lever watch; 1 new do., black fingers and large numerals; 1 metal watch; 1 silver curb albert, long links; 1 leather albert— A MAN, age about 23, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion sallow, thin features, hair black, of Jewish ap- pearance; dress, grey plaid overcoat, dark grey plaid trousers, black vest, green plaid cap, broad boots, may be wearing the stolen jacket. Stated he was a collier, and came from Salford, also that he was a native of Newcastle. Information to Supt. Noblett, Bury. 83 - Garstang ( County).— For stealing, 18th or 19th ult., £ 15 10s.— A WOMAN, age about 27, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair light, crooked nose, has been broken, London accent; dress, black jacket and dress, black straw hat. She was employed as a house ward- maid at the Fever Hospital, Fulwood. Has been an inmate of a convont at Hammersmith, London, and at South Gosforth, Newcastle- on- Tyne, and frequently at the Refuge for Girls, Liverpool. Information to Supt. Pickering, Garstang. 34. Barrow- in- Furness ( Borough).— For housebreaking— ROBERT MARTIN, alias SHAW, age 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., round shoulders, complexion fresh, hair light sandy, eyes ( loft, partially closed) grey, carries his head for- ward, rather slouching gait; dress, brownish jacket, tweed trousers, dark cap and muffler. A native of Barrow- in- Furness. Information to the Chief Constable, Barrow- in- Furneas. FRIDAY, MAY 1, 1908. THE POLICE GAZETTE 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED.
