I, Ail communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to TOE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. I. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost ) l engraving sketches. i Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if th* name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. 8. 10. 11. 13. 13 Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. Tht Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " art only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. WB " outside; 1 18 ct. gold albert, composed of 1 long and 3 short links— FREDA DAI. MANN, alias JOHNSON, MUILLER and SCHULTZE, age 27, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes dark, wears very fair false hair over other, slow singing voice; dress, blue costume large hat, trimmed black feathers. KING, age about 40, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fair, hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache light, eyes blue, sometimes weal's glasses. A music master. He collects fees in advance for music lessons, also money for instruments, but fails to give the lessons or deliver the instruments. Warrant issued. Bedford ( HoroiKjh) for stealing ( bailee), 22nd ult., a silk table centre, sideboard and cushion covers, antimacassars, photograph frame, tea cloths, and other fancy needlework — ROBERTSON or JOHNSTON, age about 60, height 4 ft. 2 or 3 in., slight build, hair ( dyed) dark brown in front, light brown at back, very small features, artificial teeth, walks lame : dress, long black cloak, black fur collar, black skirt, black ( boat shape) straw hat, shabby appearance, wearing 3 gold rings left hand, carried a hook handle umbrella. She calls on residents of large houses, usually those interested in bazaars and sales of work, produces the stolen goods, and induces them to make a purchase. U. - Liscard ( County).— For stealing a gold albert; 1 chronograph watch ; 2 ladies' gold rings; 1 gold diamond ring; and £ 4— LILIAN PALE- THORPE, age 20, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, front upper teeth uneven; dress, black sailor hat, jacket and blouse, blue skirt, flaked with white, 3 bands across, lace boots. A native of Dewsburv. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Liscard. DURHAM. 9.- Stockton- on- Tees ( County).— For fraudulent bankruptcy— EDWARD REGINALD ELLIOT, age 45 to 48, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin features, hair black, long thin black moustache ( which he has a habit of stroking), small side whiskers, eyes blue or grey, walks erect with short quick steps, appears to have rather long thin legs, quiet and reserved manner; dress, black coat and vest, light grey trousers. A solicitor. Absconded 22nd October, 1907, supposed to have taken train to Birming- ham, his wife leaving a few days later, her luggage being booked to Birmiiigham. 4 Warrants issued, Information to the Chief Constable, Durham, or Supt. A blacksmith; native of Salford. Sentenced at Andover Quarter Sessions, 8th February, 1900, to 7 years penal servitude and remanet of former sentence for shopbreaking. Liberated on licence, 4th November, 1907, which expires 2nd June, 1910. A labourer; native of Newcastle- on- Tyne. Sentenced at Durham Quarter Sessions, 4 th April, 1904, to 5 years penal servitude for shopbreaking. Licensed 5th ult. D M W e 1023. These two men, who left Gateshead, 3rd inst., are daring shopbreakers, and may be found together. May be dealt with where found. Warrants issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Gateshead. FLINTSHIRE. 11. Holywell ( County). Foi obtaining £ 20 by a worthless cheque— G. II. FRERE, age about 55, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, small moustache grey; dness, pepper and salt colour Norfolk suit, dark overcoat, bowler hat. He called at a private school, en- quired terms for boarding and educating 2 Indian children, and produced a cheque for £ 200, the terms for one year being £ 180, asked for a cheque for the £ 20 difference, which he cashed, cheque supposed stolen from London, drawn on the London and South Weeterti Bank, Earl's Court, London. Davis, Bridgend. 13.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a watch ( recovered); and 8s. 3d.— FRED BARRETT, alius GEORGE BURROWS, GRAHAM, and BAN- FIELD, age 34, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light brown, eyes blue- grey, 2 moles right shoulder blade, 1 on left buttock. A labourer; born in Canada. Has been employed at a colliery. Convicted of larceny at Caerphilly, 21st November, 1905, and at Merthyr, 21st December, 1905. Warrant issued. Aldershot ( County).— For stealing, 2nd inst., a " Coventry Challenge" bicycle, transfer on head, 26 in. frame, black enamelled, 26 in. wheels, plated rims with black centres, inverted lever brakes, rubbers of front brake missing, rubber pedals, right one badly bent, upturned handle bars, revolving bell, saddle loose and tied to top bar with string— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, broad forehead, mole right side of nose; dress, dark brown check suit, green or blue tie, dark cap, lace boots. A tailor. Has been employed in regimental tailor shops. Information to Supt. In possession of a bicycle with very low handle bars. Represented that he was employed at a local stores. 20. Bury ( County). For stealing, 4th inst., a black cloth skirt, white stripes ( nearly new); 1 striped under skirt; 1 white flannelette skirt; 1 calico night dness; 1 white silk blouse; 1 red apron, white stripes— A MAN, age 43, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., very high cheek bones, smart appearance; dress, blue pilot jacket, light cord trousers. Has served in the Army.— A WOMAN ( wife of above), age 33, height 5 ft. 7 in.; dress, three- quarter length black jacket with cape, white sailor hat, black band, and supposed the stolen articles. 21. For stealing. 29th ult., at Heywood, a black vicuna overcoat, black velvet collar, vertical side pockets, pocket left breast; 1 9 ct. breast pin, set pale blue stone, engraved with square and compass— A MAN, age 22, height 5 ft. 4 in., hair light brown, clean shaved, 1 front upper tooth missing; dress, dark serge jacket and vest, cotton muffler, blue overalls, cap. Stated he was a member of the Y. M. C. A., also that he was an engineer at a local mill. Information to Supt. Noblett, Bury. 22.— Old Trafford [ County). For obtaining money by false pretences at Eccles, 24tli ult.— THOMAS ATKINSON, age 53, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown; dress, light suit, dark brown overcoat, black tie with red spots. A spinner. He took lodgings, stated he had obtained employment at a mill in the neighbourhood, and asked for 7s. for the purpose of paying the carriage of his box, which contained his money. Previously convicted at Old- ham, Bolton, Leigh, and Ashton- under- Lyne. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. He called on a shop- keeper at Halesowen, stated he came from Hanley, Staffs, and had five crates of chinaware at the railway station, fourt of which were sold to resi- dents, and he had the other to dispose of, thus obtained the above amount, and gave a printed receipt on white paper with green centre, signed G. County)— For stealing, 26th ult., a- silver lever watch, three- quarter plate, white dial, black numerals, brass pointers, brass chain with watch key, " Castlegates, No. 9" stamped thereon, attached— ERNEST ROGERS, age 25, height 6 ft., complexion sallow, hair black, eyes blue, " ERNEST," rose, and butterfly tattooed right forearm. Is a deserter from the East Lanca- shire Regiment, served in the 3rd Staffordshire Regiment in the South African War, joined the Grenadier Guards in 1904, from which he was invalided. Warrant issued. Committed for trial at ensuing Quarter Sessions, charged with breaking and entering a railway booking office— JOHN WALL, alias SMALL; age 38, height •> ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, peculiar twitching of eyes when speaking; dress, blue jacket and vest, cord trousers, green cap, boots with cloth tops. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 35.— Y Division.— Awaiting trial at Middle- sex Sessions, 11th prox., on several charges of burglary— HENRY GEORGE DEAR or DEER, alias HENRY BARTLETT, Office No. S 87760, age 57, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion dark, hair, beard, and eyes grey. A painter; supposed a native of Birmingham. He was bouud over in January last for possessing housebreaking imple- ments by night. Declines to give any account of himself, but is strongly suspected of having been convicted, probably in the Provinces, before the finger- print system was in vogue. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. By these and similar means she succeeds in obtaining money. Often introduces in references the names of titled persons. They then offered for sale an imitation opossum tail rug, which they represented was genuine, and stated it was worth £ 10 10s., and obtained £ 6 6s. in each case, for the rugs, which were only worth 8s. 6d. each.
