XXV., No. 2520. jEfc o- cr 3L- 1, communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR or THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAKD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue 0/ the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost )/ engraving sketches. « t Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if th* name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. LTI OW SB. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received vot later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Officc. 13. 1' lit Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. SPECIAL NOTICE. IN certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the finger prints alone being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photograph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be re- quired to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. He sends tele grams in names of foreigners to their relatives abroad asking for money to be sent by telegraph money order to an address ( usually a newspaper shop), as the supposed sender is in custody and wants bail. Warrant issued. 2.— Criminal Investigation De- partment•— For theft at Toronto, Canada— JAMES REED, alias ISRAEL SMITH and SMYTH, a German Jew, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 oar 7 in., high cheek bones, square chin, hair dark, moustache ( stubby) reddish- brown, eyes brown, slight Jewish accent, walks hurriedly; wearing dark clothes.— SIDNEY MORRIS, alias MORRIS BERG, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion sallow, hair and thick mous- tache light brown, may now be clean shaved, eyes grey, 2 upper teeth deficient, some of others sup- posed stopped with gold; drees, dark clothes, occasionally wears morning coat and silk hat. He called upon a local tradesman and stated that he was a traveller for Fry & Sons, Chocolate Manu- facturers, Bristol, and would supply the shop- keeper with 2 fancy show cases on payment of a deposit of 5s. Peters obtained the money and gave a receipt on a printed form. Appears identical with man, Cases Nos. 28 and 29, 17th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. He calls on shopkeepers and represents himself as an agent for Fry & Sons, Cocoa Manufacturers, Bristol, and obtains sums varying from 2s. 6d. to 5s. as deposits for show cases shortly to be delivered, and gives rieceipts stamped with a rubber stamp, " Fry & Sons" and signed " S. Peters." Supposed identical with S. Smith, Case No. 44, 22nd Novem- ber, 1907. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maccles- field. Pryke, Southend- on- Sea. 27.— Bristol ( City).— For attempting to ob- tain 5,000 cigarettes by false pretences, 24th ult. — A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 to 8 in., rather slight build, thin face, small moustache light, North Country accent; wearing a dark over- coat, hard felt hat. Appearance of a shop assis- tant. ( Is believed identical with Charles Bodie ( see portrait), Case No. 30, Current Issue, and Man, GLOUCESTERSHIRE. Case No. 31, 13th December, 1907.) He sends a forged telegram ( below being a facsimile of the one sent on 24th ult.), or bogus telephone message to a wholesale firm, purporting to be sent by one of the firm's credit customers, requesting the goods be sent either to a Railway Parcels Office or to the shop of the person he personates. If the articles are sent to the railway station, he will call for them, but if they are forwarded to the customer, he will call him up by telephone, state that a mistake has been made, and request that the parcel be sent by the errand boy to the local railway station. He then obtains same from the Parcel Office or errand boy. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. The cheque is one from a book issued 23rd August, 1904, to George Logan, whose account closed about the end of December, 1907. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. He calls on hotel managers, tradesmen, & c., represents that he is a naval engineer, presents a seaman's bogus advance note ( usually for a large sum, payable at McClay ANIMALS, & G., STOLEN. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 94.— J Division.— 17th inst., a Welsh bay mare, 6 years, 16 hands, blaze down face and hind fetlocks white, a few white hairs on off foreleg, short mane and tail, shod all round, in good condition; a tradesman's cart, body painted green, wheels ( very high) yellow, Collin's axle, brass handles on rails, brass points to shafts, do. wheel caps, " W. Blackwell, 35 or 43 Park Roadj Leyton," painted on off side. 93.— V Division.— 15th inst., a blue roan mare, aged, 15 hands, white star on forehead, white rin? on hoof near side leg, shod all round, in good condition.
