W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension ti sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. S. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if tlw name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 6. A T 1C O W « 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an offiter of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 3. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are ulphaueticulty arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property tc be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension er recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition rot later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only: they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yhrd, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Tht Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. BERKSHIRE. 6. — Windsor ( Borougn,.— For obtaining 9s. Sd, by false pretences, 25th ult. THOMAS, age 30 to 32, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., rather stout build, hair light, clean shaved, eyes ( rather prominent) blue; dress, dark jacket suit, white muffler, black bowler hat. He represented to a person that he was acquainted with her son, a naval captain at Bournemouth, and that he had just been discharged from a hospital after under- going an operation, and required assistance to enable him to go to Poole. Stated he was a printer. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable. Windsor. ANGLESEY. 4.— Holyhead ( bounty).— For housebreak- ing— RICHARD MARTIN, age 49, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) brown, crucifix on one forearm, walks erect; dress, old black faded jacket suit, peak cap. BEDFORDSHIRE. o— Ampthill ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) 6 yards striped shirting ( recovered) — MARY MORRIS, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes ( rather piercing) dark, Roman nose; dress, dark dress, black hat, trimmed feathers, heavy lace boots, and a heavy cloak which was entrusted to her to repair. A Catholic, and calls upon gentry BUCKING HA MS HIRE. 7. — Fenny Stratford ( County). — For fowlstealing, at Great Brickhill, 24th ult. — PHILLIP DANCER, age 27, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, hair light, Roman nose, slight moustache, bushy at ends, addicted to drink; dress/ dark suit, threequarter- length overcoat, hard hat. A butcher; native of Soulbury, Bucks. Has served in the Metropolitan Police. Absconded 26th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lait, Fenny Stratford. CHESHIRE. 8.— Birkenhead ( County).— For failing to report— Licence- holder JOSEPH WOOD, alias STANi EY, Office No. 1577- 03, age 65, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes hazel, lost 1st and 2nd right fingers. A labourer ; native of Bromford. Sentenced at West Brom- wich Sessions, 5th July, 1907, to 6 months hard labour and .1 year supervision for larceny. Liberated on remission 6th inst. 20.32. Sutherland, Birkenhead. 9— Middlewich ( County).— For embezz- ling £ 18 4s. 3d., at Church Lawton, since 21st October last— WILLIE MASSEY, age about 36, height about 5 ft. 64 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( rather long) sandy, eyes blue or grey, slightly bow legged; wearing dark overcoat, brown leggings, grey cap. Has been employed as a coal agent, formerly a surveyor, and has a know- ledge of assistant overseer's and estate agent's work. Is fond of betting. Absconded 29th ult. Warrant issued. DEVONSHIRE. 11.- Chutlteigh ( County).— For embezzl- ing £ 40, at Tedgnmouth, 9th ult.— ARTHUR HILL, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., shoulders drop siigntly, complexion, moustache, and eyet ( rather weak and prominent) dark, sharp features, very talkative, of slovenly appearance; dress, dark clothes, blue striped muffler. A native of Guernsey. He committed bigamy at Sunderland, 14th ult., and absconded same day. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended out of the United King- dom. Information to Supt. Torquay ( County). — For stealing, 22nd June last, a bicycle ( recovered) — NORA LUCKHURST, alias KNOX, MARSHALL, RUSSELL, and DOULTON, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion rather dark, uses powder and paint, well spoken, of smart ap- pearance; dress, long grey jacket, black or grey skirt, black felt hat, black veil. Accompanied by her child, Gladys, age 3 years and 5 months; supposed dressed in boy's clothing. A native of Lancing, Sussex. May be found in company of chauffeurs. Usually carries salts of lemon, and has threatened to commit suicide. She takes lodg- ings, and states that her husband will call in a few da^ s and pay her bills. Warrant issued. DORSETSHIRE. 13.— Shaftesbury( County).— For indecent assault on a girl, age 15, between Shaftesbury and Semley, 17th inst.— A MAN, age 30, height about 5 ft. 11 in., complexion rather pale, hair and moustache dark; dress, dark jacket suit, grey cap, dark tie, lace boots, riding a bicycle, high frame, plated wheels, small wicker cross handle basket strapped to handle bars. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 14.— Dumfries ( County). — For embezzle- ment— JOHN CLARK, age 29, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion pale, hair and heavy moustache very dark brown, eyes dark; dress, grey tweed jacket and vest, dark tweed trousers, black hard felt hat, light lace boots. A tailor or draper's travel- ler; native of Dumfriesshire. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Dumfries. ESSEX. 15.— Brentwood ( County).— F'or obtaining 15s. by false pretences— — KING, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache very dark, long face and nose; dress, dark overcoat and trousers, black bowler hat. He represents himself to be a farmer, having a quantity of vegetables and apples for sale, and solicits orders for goods to be sent by rail. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marden, Brentwood. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 16.— Neath ( County).— Vox stealing £ 28, from his lodgings at Briton Ferry, 6th inst.— WIL- LIAM B. CREAKE, alias CLAREMONT, BLE- WATT, and CLOWN, age 22, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light, clean shaved; dress, black serge coat and trousers, fancy Scotch tweed plaid vest, brass buttons, cap. A fitter and amateur photographer; native of Tot- tenham. Believed to be a deserter from the Army. Warrant issued. 17.— Neath ( County).— For carnally know- ing a girl under 14, 10th September last, at Gower — JOHN RYAN, age about 29, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion ruddy, hair and moustache very dark, hair low on forehead, eyes dark, broad chin with a prominent dimple, scars back of head, Irish ac- cent; dress, grey and blue plaid jacket, brownish vest ( patched), moleskin trousers, green plaid cap, heavy nailed boots. A navvy; native of Queens- town. He stated he had been working at Swansea, Morriston, Clydach, Rhondda Valley, and London. May seek employment on public works. Frequents common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Menhinick, Neath 1$.— Cardiff ( City .— For false pretences, ( worthless cheque)— W. W ATKINS, alias THOMAS WILLIAMS, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair and moustache brown, addicted to drink; wearing three- quarter- length overcoat, black bowler hat. A butcher. He takes premises near a bank, prefer- ably a suburban branch, becomes acquainted with persons having an account by whom he is intro- duced to the manager, states he is about to open a business in the town, and that he has a banking account in another town, which he will have trans- ferred, then makfrs a reqnei- t fur, and obtains a cheque book and tenders the cheques when pur- chasing goods. Warrant issued. 19.- Cardiff ( City).— For stealing£ 20 2s.— SALEM VINCENT BIRD, age 22, height 6 ft. 2 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, eyes blue, large noseband mouth, thick lips, speaks slowly; dress, navy blue suit, double- breasted jacket, black sailor cap with shiny peak, celluloid collar, brown tie, black leather leggings with but- tons. An engine cleaner; native of Birmingham. He spoke of proceeding to Canada. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE . 20 — Bristol ( City • — For stealing £ 2 in November last — ALBERT FREDERICK NORTHAM, alias FRED NORTHAM, age 26, height about 5 ft. 10 in., hair and moustache dark, of military appearance. He was employed by a firm of jewellers in Manchester, superintending the dis- I tribution of circulars, having 4 men under him, and absconded with the above amount which he • should have paid the men as wages. Has also been canvassing for the sale of sewing machines, and will probably seek similar employment. May be found at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 21 .— Bristol ( City).— For stealing, 30th ult, a navy bine suit to fit man, height about 5 ft. 5 in., slight build ; 1 pair glace kid Derby lace boots, size 7|, toe caps— CHAR1. ES PICKERING, age about 34, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair dark, tinged with grey, heavy dark moustache, eyes ( rather large) sunken, wart left cheek ; dress, dark gr^ y suit and cap, black and white tweed overcoat or light brown mackintosh, dark tie, lace boots. Has been a canvasser for a sewing machine company at ^ eovil, an insurance agent at Sherborne, Dorset, about three years ago ; also " boots " at an hotel at Dorchester; supposed a native of Leeds. HAMPSHIRE. 22.— G OS nor t ( County). — For stealing ( bailee), 5th October last, a costermonger's truck ( recovered)— WILLIAM GREEN, alias JACK GREEN, age 48 to 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, long nose ( broken), inclined to one side; dress, dark clothes, bowler hat, very much worn. A rag and bone gatherer. Frequents common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cottle, Gosport. 23.— Southampton ( Borough).— For ob- taining food by false pretences — Licence- holder GEORGE SMITH, alias BUNCE, COOPER, WALTERS, MARTIN, & c., Office No. 1705- 02, age 26, height 5 ft. 9J in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eves hazel, scar back of left hand and front left wrist; dress, dark grey suit, blue overcoat with velvet collar and cuffs. A labourer; native of London. Sentenced at North London Sessions, 9th May, 1905, to 3 years penal servitude and 2 years supervision for obtaining a horse, & c., by false pretences; has also been convicted at Hertford, Devizes, and Berks Assizes. Warrant issued. 24. - Southampton ( Boroug} i\.~ For ob- taining £ 10 by false pretences— ERNEST JOHN HODDINOTT, age 33 or 34, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, addicted to drink, one leg shorter than other; dress, blue serge suit, cap. A builder. Warrant issued. Information to the Acting Chief Constable, Southampton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 25.— Weobley ( County).- For stealing an old black portmanteau, light straps, containing a blue serge coat and vest— J. BENNETT, alias BARNETT. age about 42, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, " M. B." sup- posed tattooed one arm; dress, dark clothes, may be wearing the stolen coat and vest. He attends fairs, shows, and races, and known by the name of " Darkey." Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Williams, Weobley. HER TFORDSHIRE. l, 6. — Hitchin (' ' ounty). — For stealing ( bailee), 18th ult., a "' Standard Humber" bicycle, No. 147865, 25 in frame, Fagan 2- speed gear, 2 roller brakes, Edinburgh tyres ( back much worn), — WILLIAM SAUNDERS, age 23, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue; dress, dark clothes and cap. A labourer; native of Walsworth, Hitchin. May seek employment at cycle repairing shops. Warrant issued. ' 7.— Hitchin ( County).— For obtaining 3s. by false pretences, 17th insr. — RICHA. HD BARKER, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion tresh, hair and moustache brown ; dress, dark short jacket, dark cord trousers, dark cap, red neckerchief. Appearance of an engine driver. He represented that he way driving an engine from Stamford to Folkestone, and stated that the axle had broken, obtained the above amount for the purpose or paying for his lodgings. Warrant issued. 28. — Hitchin ( County). — For failing to appear to a summons. 3rd inst., IOJ trading as an auctioneer without having a licence— F RANK M. U.," blucher shape boots. Supposed a native of Ware. May seek employment at farms or be found sleeping out. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Duke, Ware. 30.— Watford ((* ounty).— For stealing from her lodgings, 11th inst., 3 gold dress rings ( 1 set pearl and turquoise; 1 blue and red stones; 1 3 large blue stones) ; 2 silver bracelets, set Scotch stones; 1 gold curb bracelet, padlock attached; 1 gold cameo brooch, figure in centre, leaves around edge; 1 gold brooch, photographs of 3 boys therein; 1 long brown feather boa, 3 tails; 2 white linen night dresses; 2 do. chemises; 1 black serge skirt, strap bands around bottom; 1 pink flannelette night dress, trimmed white lace— — PORTER alias KNIGHT and HOWARD, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, dimples in cheeks, hair dark; dress, " dark skirt, light jacket, supposed black hat. Accompanied by her husband; wearing J dark clothes and cap; and two boys ( twins), age I 4; wearing sailor suits and red jerseys. ( See Case No. 2, 18th October last.) Warrant issued. KENT. 31. — Canterbury ( County). — For fowl- stealing, 20th ult., at Herne— PHILMER EDWARD COLLARD, age 43, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, 3 moles right forearm, cut scar right forefinger, 2 pock marks on chest; dress, brownish jacket and vest, white fustian trousers, usually strapped at knees, brown cap with flaps, red and white neckerchief, heavy lace boots. A labourer; native of Hoath, near Canterbury. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jacobs, Canterbury. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1907. THE POLICE GAZETTE. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED, BANFFSHIRE. 32.— Banff ( Cr. unto).— For forcing and uttering a bank cheque for £ 460, 6th iust. — WILLIAM GRAY, ago 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., long face, large nose, hair grey, heavy eyebrows, now wearing moustache only, slightly knock kneed, flat feet, has a habit of winking when in conversation; dress, blue and grey check tweed suit, dark overcoat with velvet collar, dark grey peak cap, lace boots. An insurance agent; native of Banffshire. For the above cheque he received 5 £ 1 notes, 11 £ 5 do., 15 £ 20 do., and 1 £ 100 do., all on the National Bank of Scotland; also had in his possession £ 60 in North of Scotland Bank notes. Absconded 6th inst. Will endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Banff. YORKSHIRE ( East Ratling). 33. — Driffield ( County). — For uttering forged cheques, falsification of accounts and em- bezzlement — WILLIAM GEORGE GOTT- WALTZ, alias C. ROSS, age about 50, height about 5 ft. 8 in., inclined to be stout, complexion fair, round face, hair ( turning grey, bald on top) and eyes brown, thick straight moustache light ( turning grey), wears glasses when reading, rather short thick neck, carries one shoulder higher than the other, peculiar gait, takes rather short steps, is believed to suffer with diabetes, of good address, very plausible, addicted to drinking and betting, frequents race- courses and music- halls. A solicitor s clerk; native of Great Driffield, absconded 18th May last. ( See Case No. 34, 9th August last). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jackson, Driffield. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued)— KENT. 34.— Canterbury County ).— For obtaining money by worthless cheque, 2nd inst., at Heine Bay— HARRY WINSDALE, alios HARCOURT, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., talks quickly ; dres3, speckled suit and cap, black cardigan jacket, lace boots, wearing gold rimmed glasses stated he has been employed as a surveyor to a bnilding society. Plays pianos in public houses.
