All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OE THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, i/ sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits cj persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings oj stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range front 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance fo,~ cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. * Ji? X nrs. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer ol not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or oj stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inseried in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion ol any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12 All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. ...... 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. He writes on hotel note paper to another hotel engaging a room, which he subse- quently occupies, awaits his opportunitv to enter adjoining rooms, commits larceny, and decamps, leaving behind an old portmanteau containing lemonade bottles containing water. 3.— G Division. — For stealing ( bailee) 25th August last, a gold watch and ring ( re- covered)— MAX JACOBSON, age about 27, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, of Jewish appearance, speaks broken English, rather bow- legged; dress, dark greenish jacket suit, black hard felt hat. Sup- posed a Russian Pole. He calls on tobacconists and small jewellers, and represents that he is a dealer and can supply them at a small cost. 4.— C Division — For obtaining money by false pretences— GEORGE TURKENTINE, age 27, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion pale, thin face, high cheek bones, hair and eyes ( Sunken) dark, thick lips, front teeth artificial; dress, blue serge suit, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. 5.— G Division.— For obtaining £ 173 10s. by false pretences, 4th inst.— SANDOR SINGER, an Austrian, age 26, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, short- sighted, wears pince- nez; dress, grey frock coat suit, silk hat, sometimes brown lounge suit with green stripes, bowler hat. He lately traded as H. Herman, Brighton Gas Light and Heating Co., 184 Western Road, Brighton. Warrant issued. 6.— M division.— For obtaining £ 19 14e. by false pretences— CHARLES M. May seek employment as governess or hospital nurse. DORSETSHIRE. 17 — Poole ( County).— For obtaining 7s. by false pretences, 15th inst.— WILLIAM REEVES, alias WILLIAMS and KING, age about 46, height 5 ft. 9J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue or grey, prominent cheek bones, bad front upper teeth, scar back right hand, mole right cheek near chin, 2nd left toe has been fractured; dress, dark jacket suit, black bowler hat, light lace boots, usually wears jacket suit and leggings ( when cycling), sometimes overcoat and hard hat. Supposed a native of Exeter. He calls on green- grocers, & c., and obtains orders for potatoes, eggs, apples, & c., receiving payment in advance. ( See Case No. 35, 15th March last., Warrant issued. Davison, Darlington. 21 .— Stockton - on - Tees ( County).— For embezzling £ 7 8s. 6d. 19th July last— JOHN TEMPLE, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., stoutish build, complexion rather fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved; dress, grey suit, hard felt hat. A cashier and book- keeper. Absconded 11th inst., and was seen 18th inst. in Piccadilly, London. He usually spends his holidays at Scarborough. He is very fond of company and frequents good class hotels. Has relatives in York, Stokesley and Middlesbrough. DURHAM. 18.— Darlington ( County).— For stealing, £ 50, 5th inst.— JOSEPH COCKFIELD, age 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion rather swarthy, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes brown, slightly round shoulders; dress, black jacket suit, dark mixture cap ( worn well over his eyes). A steel- dresser. He is a keen billiard player and fondl of betting. Warrant issued. 19.— Darlington ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings, also a quantity of wearing apparel, by false pretences, between 22nd August last and 15th inst.— MARY ELLEN EDWARDS, alias ROBERTS and MARGULUS, age 37, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion dark, full face, hair dark brown, eyes grey, thick lips, coarse features, upper teeth artificial; dress, blue or grey skirt, white silk blouse, long brown ooat, fur oollar to match, white felt hat, trimmed brown velvet and large yellow feather, lacel boots. She is well known at Jarrow, Winchester, Newcastle, and South Shields, is very plausible in manner; will seek assistance from the clergy or other charitably disposed persons. W."; 1 white straw hat with green band— JOHN WELSH, age about 33, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., stiff buildj high forehead, hair ( thin on top) and moustache light, small eyes blue, Welsh accent; wearing dark blue serge trousers, and, no doubt, the stolen coat, as he left a blue serge coat behind. Supposed a native of Durham or Newcastle- on- Tyne, and to have been in the Merchant Service, but has been recently employed at a brewery as a labourer. Warrant issued. LANARKSHIRE. 3?.— Glasgow ( City).— For fraud, larceny and forgery, between 29th June and 30th Sep- tember, 1907— MABEL JOHNSON, age 22 to 23, medium height, rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair light, dressed high on top of head, snub nose; dress, light coat and skirt, light motor hat, steel- grey colour veil. Stated to be a native of Birmingham, of good apnearance and address. May assume the name Mary Paterson, and obtain board and lodgings by representing that she is a clerk at a warehouse or Post Office. May have in her posses- sion an umbrella, " Miss Paterson, Dundee" on handle. She obtained £ 16 worth of wearing apparel, & c., from a firm, representing that she had been sent by one of their customers, and stole a Post Office bank book from her lodgings, which she presented at the bank and withdrew £ 50 by a forged order. HERTFORDSHIRE. 25— Ho me I Hempstead ( County).— For stealing, 8th ult., a pneumatic bicycle, 28 in. frame and wheels, free wheel, front rim brake, flat handle bars, black grips, new outer front cover, metal pump with spring clips, rims inside, shoulder forks and back forks painted with aluminium— JOSEPH COLLIS, age 27, height 5 ft. 7£ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, tattooed both arms. He was discharged from the Navy in April last. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Frogley, Hemel Hemp- stead. ISLE OF WIGHT. 27.— Newport ( County).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Isle of Wight Union— WALTER JAMES EDWARDS, age 34, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes grey, large scar side of head'. A navvy, may be found on public works, takes active part in open air religious meetings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gallaway, Newport.
