All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment mast be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 6. 10. 11. 12 13. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inseried in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from, such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issut cannot be guaranteed. BRECONSHIRE. 7.— Brynmawr ( County).— For obtaining credit by false pretences, between 17th and 21st ult. TAYLOR ( supposed false), age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion very red, hair and whiskers greyish red, wears glasses; dress, black frock coat and vest, shabby, baggy trousers, rubber cuffs, black bowler hat, brown shoes, carried a brown sample bag or case. He repre- sented! that he was an agent for a firm of pub- lishers, Manchester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hand, Brynmawr. CUMBERLAND. S.— Ponrith ( county).— for stealing title deeds, between lst February and 21st September, 1906— SAMUEL ARCHIBALD, alias ARCHI- BALD WILSON and JOHNSTONE, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., corpulent but active, hair and moustache dark, eyes dark brown, nose red and rather thick at end, strong eyebrows, wears glasses. A solicitor's clerk. During the last few months he has had a confectioner's shop in Nottingham, which business his wife managed while he was employed as a chef. Absconded 7th ult. He has obtained money from solicitors and money lenders, and as all the title deeds havel not yet been disposed of, he may attempt to obtain money on those he still possesses. WARD, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., stiff build, complexion ruddy, hair dark; dress, dark brown suit, black hard hat, wearing a , gold curb ring. Accompanied! by a Man, age about 35, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair light to sandy; dress, greenish suit, cap. He opened an account at the United and Counties Bank, Ltd., Sheffield, 27th ult., in the name of Joseph Lee, by depositing £ 5, and ob- tained a cheque book numbered from B 125281 to B 125311, and! on 28th ult., attended Chesterfield Fair, where he bought the above horses, paying for them with cheques signed E. FORFARSHIRE. 14.— Dundee ( City\— For stealing goods by trick, between 11th and 27th ult.— A. MUNROE, alias GEORGE CAMPBELL, age 40 to 50, height 6 ft, 1 or 2 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache black: well dressed. A horse dealer; native of Gosforth. He and a woman, May Humble ( in custody), obtained goods on a month's credit and decamped without paying for same. He is also wanted for stealing horses, harness, and a Governess car; was formerly a butcher, and1 is well known among low horse dealers. May be found at fairs, sale yards, kc. IS — Northleach ( County).— For stealing, 17th ult., a safety bicycle, 26 in. frame, handle bars nearly straight, pneumatic front tyre, cushion back tyre, free wheel, rubber pedals, cellu- loid mudguards, fastened with straps, front rim brake, oil lamp attached— EDWARD BOOTH, age 23, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion and hair dark, eyes dark brown, addicted to drink; dress, dark coat and vest, cord trousers, dark cap. A native of Dowdeswell, near Cheltenham. Warrant issued. 17.— Northleach ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 21st ult, at Aldsworth, a lady's silver Geneva watch, No. 1018; and a hunter watch, double case HOWARD ( supposed false), age about 27, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light; dress, brown suit, navy blue cap, heavy boots, carried a bag con- taining watch repairing tools and white apron. HAMPSHIRE. 18.— Bournemouth ( County).— For non- payment of £ 1 Is. 6d., contribution and costs in respect of his son, who is in the custody of tha National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children — FREDERICK JAMES SAR- GEANT, age 49, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue, fleshy lump under left eye, 2 abscess marks bottom of back. A tramping labourer; native of Wool, Dorset. May be found at common lodgings or low beer houses. Warrant issued. 19.— Bournemouth ( County) — For larceny 25th ult.— A MAN, age' 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stiff build, complexion fresh, hair and mous- tache light; dress, pepper and salt colour tweed overcoat, Raglan pattern, cap to ( match, Idark trousers, buckskin shoes, red soles. Hack, Bournemouth. 20.— Woolston ( County). — For stealing ( bailee), 25th ult., a bicycle ( recovered)— THOMAS DODGHSON, age 21, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight mousr lache dark, eyes blue; dress, dark suit, light cap. A native of Ashfield, near Lancaster. Is a de- serter from the Royal Army Medical Corps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Information to the Chief Constable, Salford. LEICESTERSHIRE. 30.— Market Harborough ( County).— For larceny ( bailee)— A MAN, giving the name of MAJOR H. H. BUTLER, supposed alias O. H. FULTON, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., moustache dark grey, waxed at ends, military appearance; dress, grey suit, straw hat. Accom- panied by a Woman,, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion very fair, hair auburn. These persons are wanted in a number of places for obtaining money by fraud in the following manner:— They took lodgings at a small village near this town, and arranged with a tobacconist to receive letters for them, then answered adver- tisements in the London Morning Post for cook or housemaid, the application being made in the name of Catherine Morgan, and testimonials given Morgan in name of Mrs. Butler. When terms were arranged, Mrs. Butler wrote representing that Morgan was short of money, and asked for railway fare, generally from £ i to £ 1 10s., to enable him to get to the place. Warrant issued. NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. 31. - Peterborough ( City).— For stealing a greenish mixture tweed suit, nearly new; 1 silver Geneva watch; 1 silver double albert; 5 foreign coins; 1 threepenny piece with blue stone in centre, and! 7 blue knobs round edge; and £ 2 10s.— FRANK JERRARD, age about 21, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion sallow, eyes crossed, girl's head tattooed left arm. A sailor, fireman, or labourer; native of Hull. Has recently been employed with roundabouts at fairs. Information to the Chief Constable, Peter- borough. OXFORDSHIRE. 32.— Watlington ( County).— For stealing £ 37 from his lodgings at Nettlebed— ALFRED STIMPSON, age 32, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, bullet wound left side of jaw; dress, blue serge jacket, grey golf cap. Had with him a bicycle. A butcher. Previously convicted at Abingdon and Stow- on- the Wold. ( Is identical with Alfred Stimpson, Case No. 8, 4th inst.) Wax- rant issued. Information to Supt. Hicklin, Burslem. 34— Hanley ( Borough).— For embezzling £ 4— CHARLES BODIE, alias CHARLES EDWARD ADOLPHUS BODE, Office No. 1816- 06, age 31, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache frrown, eyes hazel, of good address; dress, greenish lounge suit, hard felt hat. A cigar or wine and spirit merchant's traveller. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hanley. SURREY. 3>.— Chertsey ( County i. — For obtaining 3s. by false pretences, at Weybridge, 25th ult.— W. B. PERKS, alias J. W. GIBBS, J. W. EVANS, and J. W. STEVENS, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in. complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, eyes brown, of good address; dress, dark suit, hard bowler hat. A canvasser. He calls on local auctioneers and house agents, obtains a pro- perty guide, then calls upon tradesmen, produces the book, states he is an agent and canvassing for advertisements for insertion in a guide, for which he collects money and gives receipts. A farm servant; an epileptic, and came from Notting- ham Workhouse to Starnthwaite Colony about 3 years ago. " Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Kendal. A mechanic; native of Otley. Sentenced to death at Leeds Assizes, 26th . July, 1893, for wilful murder, commuted to penal servitude for life. Licensed 6th August, 1900. T 398. GLOUCESTERSHIRE . 81.— Bristol ( City . — The owner of piano organ Case No. 84, 20th ult., has been traced, and thieves arrested. - , ff • . • * .),• • ; R.) f! r. y. t, nu ELGINSHIRE. 82. — Elgin ( County).— On 25th ult., John Barclay Smith was murdered at Lhanbryde, sus- picion is attached to A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion dark or sallow, hair and slight moustache dark, thin face, eyes close set, sunken; dress, dark jacket suit and cap, dark muffler, light stripes, boots studded with pro- tectors. He was seen in companv of the deceased, 21st ult., going in the direction of Lhanbryde, and lodged with him till 23rd ult., and worked together breaking road metal in the Mosstowie District, 23rd and 24th ult. The murdered man was last seen aUve at 5 p. m., 25th ult., walking towards Lhanbryde. On the morning of 26th ult., the suspected murderer was seen on the main roadi leading from Lhanbryde to Fochabers, and asked a woman for a shirt. He is said to have a distinct South Country accent, and stated he had been a steward on a sailing ship, had been employed breaking bricks and slag, and was a native of Edinburgh, to which place he was returning. May have in his possesion, or have disposed of, a double case silver verge watch, No. 514, which belonged to the deceased. Information to the Chief Constable, Elginshire.
