Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to b< taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue. if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must b « clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 6s,. per photograph or sketch ol a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from ti. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not lest rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant i « in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 6. L I O 33W W. . 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an often of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear « number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged b » counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquent* or stolen property to be inserted in the POLIOI GAZHTTB, must, on their apprehension oi recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice ol the fact, referring to tfct number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annout.• ment will be wholly responsible lor any proceedings which may remit from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so at to be receitsi not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the papst only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering lettsr 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yari, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Olfice. 13. Birkenhead ( County).— For house- breaking at Whitby, 28th ult., and stealing £ 4 18s. 6d.— HENRY RUFFER, age 30, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion swarthy, hair dark brown, small moustache dark, of German parentage; dress, dark brown mixture suit, coloured muffler, cap. Sutherland, Birkenhead. 10.— Crowe ( County).— For larceny ( lodgings) — EDWARD JAMES LOFTS, alias WILSON, age 24, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey. Appearance of a groom. A native of Cambridge. ( See Cases No 19, 2nd ult., and No. 10, 12th July last.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 11.- Macclesfield ( Borough).— For steal- ing from his lodgings, 4th inst., a gold wedding ring; 1 pair opera glasses in black leather case; and £ 2 10s.— HAROLD WHISTON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., slight build, complexion rather sallow, cheeks sunken, hair light brown, ( supposed dyed), slight moustache ( waxed at ends) dark, raises his eyebrows when speaking; dress, dark coat and trousers, red jersey, dark tie, grey cap, new brown boots, carried an umbrella, hook handle, and a ooat, may be wearing leggings. Warrant issued. 13. - Chesterfield ( Borough). — For ob- taining food and lodgings by false pretences, 1st inst. — ARTHUR BRADLEY, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., stiff build, square shoulders, complexion sallow, full face, hair, moustache, and eyes dark; dress, dark brown jacket suit and cap, greenish tie, dark grey motor mackintosh, rod lining. He represented himself as a chauffeur to a nobleman, and engaged a carriage and pair of horses to meet his master at the railway station. Several trains were met, and he made excuses for his master's non- arrival. He obtained food and lodgings for himself and the coachman, from whom he borrowed money, which he promised to return. He left to meet a train on 2nd inst. and did not return. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chester- field^ DORSETSHIRE. 14. — Bridport ( County). — For stealing a brown leather purse, containing £ 2 and a cent pieoe, at Beaminster, 31st ult.— FRED LESLIE, age about 47, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair and heavy moustache ( curly at ends) brown, " J. L." supposed' tattooed on left forearm; dress, blue jacket, faded blue fancy vest, believed white spots, red lining, blue striped tweed trousers, white muffler, dark cap. A tramping labourer; supposed a native of Kingston, Surrey. Stated he had served in the Army. May be found in common lodging or low beer houses. Warrant issued. SSUMFRIESSHIRE. 15. — Dumfries [ County). — Vor fraud and uttering — ERNEST PRITCHARD HENRY LEECH, alias LEACH, age 27, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, large scar above back of left wrist, scar left fore finger, oircular scar above front of right wrist, V shaped scar right forefinger, scar above centre of left elbow; dress, blue jacket suit, blue tie, brown boots, had in his possession a black hard felt hat, greenish check cap, new drab colour mackintosh and a yellow travelling bag; also a cheque book on the North of Scotland Bank, Dumfries, Nos. ALLEN ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 8 in., long face, hair dark, moustache light brown, long nose, tat- tooed both arms, several front upper teeth missing, of military appearance; dress, dark grey striped suit, grey cap, bow tie, brown canvas shoes. A painter. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 17.— Grays ( County). — For stealing, 5th inst., from s. s. Clan Ferrjeson, at Tilbury Dock, a gold keyless hunter watch, " J. Smith" on dial; 1 gold curb albert, amber Colour heart shape pendant on end; 1 18 ct. gold signet ring, black stone with white mark across— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., thin face, moustache light; dress, blue serge suit ( tight fitting trousers), cap. Information to Inspector Peters, Grays. 18 — Romford County\ — For stealing £ 18. 3rd inst.— ALLAN MADDOCKS, age 18, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion pale, long thin face, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes dark, " I. L. B. A." and crossed hands tattooed left forearm; dress, dark grey plaid jacket suit, hard felt hat or grey cap, brown boots, carried an over coat. A clerk; native of Romford. Absconded 3rd inst. CARTER, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., hair and moustache' dark brown; dress, black coat, light fancy vest, light trousers, straw hat, old brown boots, wearing massive gold chain and a ring.— A MAN ( supposed son of above), age 18 to 20, height 5 ft. 7 in., full face, hair light brown, clean shaved, nimples on face; dress, blue suit, large cap. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lennon, Witham. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 21.— Swansea ( Borough)— For obtaining fish to the value of £ 13 14s., by false pretences — C. POWELL, age 32 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache sandy, eyes ( small) dark, small nose, of good address; dress, blue serge suit, brown soft felt hat, brown boots, wearing a heavy gold albert. He attends fish sales, displays elaborate bill- heads with a fictitious office address thereon, obtains fish on a few days' credit, and dispatches same to another market to be sold on commission. The amount realised is forwarded by wire to the post office. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Swansea. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 22.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing, 3lst ult., £ 2 12s.— BERT CODGEBROOK, age 23, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin face, hair and moustache ( slight) dark, cut scar across throat, which is very noticeable; dress, black jacket, blue serge trousers, greenish cap, red muffler, lace boots. He came to Bristol about 5 weeks ago, and prior to that is believed to have been employed on the Salvation Army Farm Colony, Hadley, Essex, and frequently visited Southend, where he is believed to be well known. Also stated he had been employed with Sangers' Circus. A good pianist, and may be found play- ing the piano at public houses. In Bristol he was employed at a nursery and market garden. Usually stays at Salvation Army and Church Army Homes. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 23.— Bristol ( Cilys.— For stealing, 14th nit., 4 gold rings, and a purse containing 3s.— LOUISA THOMAS, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion sallow, hair light brown, eyes ( full) blue, 2 front unper teeth project; dress, black blouse, dark blue skirt, white stripes, dark grey threequarter- length coat, large black hat, old lace boots. A native of Bristol. She has been convicted of obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences. May be found in company of prostitutes, and staying at low re- freshment houses. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested! out of the United Kingdom. 24.— Bristol ( City)— For an offence under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1907— MATTHEW ACORN, age 51 ( looks older), heiight 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, hair and moustache dark ( turn- ing grey), carries his head down when walking; dress, blue serge suit and cap. A seaman; native of Wiltshire. He signed articles in the s. s. Bristol City, 17th ult., received an advance note for £ 2, which he negotiated, sailed to Cardiff, where lie deserted the vessel before the note became payable. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 25 — Bristol ( City).— For stealing 4 £ 5 Bank of England note'?, Nos. 05829- 32; and £ 2 — GEORGE RONALD BAKER, age about 19, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fair, hair light brown; dress, blue ribbed serge suit, green- ish grey cap, brown boots or shoes. Had with him a large brown tin box and a small vellow box con- taining clothing, including a brownish large check cvcling suit, grey cap turned up at sides and back. Has been employed as a ship's steward, and1 has a discharge book bearing his name. May endeavour to book to America. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. HAMPSHIRE. 26.— Aldershot ( County^.— For leaving h'S wife and family chargeable to the Hartley Wint- ney Union, 12th July last— DAVID DRYDON STEWART, a Scotchman, age 34, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, clean shaved, sometimes wears a moustache, scar bridge of nose, 2 bald patches left side of head; dress, plaid jacket and vest, blue striped trousers, blue muffler, light lace boots. A labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 27.— Fareham ( County).— For stealing £ 50 — LOUISA BLOW, age 62 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion ruddy, hair ( part false) brown, upper teeth artificial, some of which are missing; dresis, grey mixture dkirt, dark blouse, forget- me- nots thereon, green motor cap or hat, may be wearing a long brownish over- coat with green stripes. A cook or housekeeper; native of Southampton. Usually employed at hotels or public houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Carman, Fareham. 28. — fKlngpWOQd ( County).— For neglecting their children, leaving them chargeable to the Christchurch Union — JOSEPH GOUGH, alias FOOT, age 29, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair and eyes brown, boil scar left shoulder blade, anchor tattooed left arm, birth mark left thigh, ring 2nd right finger. A native of Pokesdown. — FREDERICK SIDNEY FOOTE, age 35, height 5 ft. in., complexion fair, hair sandy, eyes hazel, birth mark left thigh. A native of Pokes- down.— ALFRED JOHN HURLEY, age 33, height 5 ft. 8 in., oomplexion fair, hair brown, eyes hazel, gun shot, flags, anchor and' 2 crosses left forearm, 5 crosses with star in centre back of left hand, star, wheel and anchor right forearm, bracelet right wrist, cross back of right hand. A native of Brighton. All supposed travelling the country selling flowers or gathering rags, bones, & c.— FREDERICK WILLIAM FRICKER, age 43, height 5 ft. 8f in., complexion sallow, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar back of neck, cut mark under left eye, ship tattooed on chest, harp and eagle right forearm, ship, faith, hope and charity, Union Jack and Stars and Stripes left forearm, bracelet left wrist, anchor back of left hand. A labourer; native of Mudeford, Hants. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Mayes, Ringwood. 29.— Woolston ( County).— For obtaining 10s., by false pretences at Eastleigh, 26th ult.— GEORGE ROWE ( supposed false), age about 23, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, hair brown, clean shaved, basket tattooed back left hand, woman dressed as a sailor with flag around waist left forearm; dress, blue serge suit, dark check cap, brown boots, blacked over. He repre- sented that he was an agent for a firm of drapers from a neighbouring town. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Woolston. HER TFORDSHIRE. W — Watford ( County).— For stealing. 31st ult., a pair of slippers; 1 pair socks; 1 red hand- kerchief; 1 shirt front; 1 green tie— BOB, alias JOHN WILSON, age about 25, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, rather round shoulders, complexion fresh, hair ( curly in front) dark brown, snub nose!, flat bridge, clean shaved, eyes diark, spoke with North Country accent; dress, grey tweed jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, light grey tweed cap, collar and front marked " Steabben," green tie with red dots, brown canvas shoes, leather straps across toes. Warrant issued. 31-— at ford ( County— For leaving bis wife and children chargeable to the Watford Union FREDERICK STONHAM LANDER, age 33, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes brown, 2 scars centre of forehead, mole back right thigh; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, brown trousers, light cap. Warrant issued. 32.— Watford ( County).— For obtaining 5s. by false pretences at Chorleywood, 27th ult.— — A MAN who gave the name of YOURES, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion, hair and slight moustache dark; wearing black overcoat, trousers and hat. He callsi on private persons or tradesmen and represents that he is a dealer in vegetables, fruit, cheese, butter and bacon, and that someone has given him a large order. He induces the" indi- vidual to give an order to make up a truck load, obtains a deposit and decamps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wood, Watford1. 33.— St. Albans ( City}.— For failing to re- nort— Licence- holder ROBERT SIDNEY HUD- SON, alias SIDNEY HUDSON and ROBERT HUDSON, Office No. 1169- 99, age 36, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel- grey, female and bust of sailor right forearm, scar back right thumb, coat of arms, " R. S. H.," and bracelet left wrist, heart and arrow back left hand, scar back left thumb, front upper and lower teeth deficient. A labourer; native of Lon- don. Sentenced at Chelmsford Quarter Sessions, 4th January, 1905, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny after previous conviction of felony. Licensed on 6th April, 1907. X f 43. SURREY. 35. — Reigate ( Borough). — For absconding from the Philanthropic Society's Farm School, Redhill, 28th ult.— GEORGE BERRY, age 18, height 5 ft. 5 in., hair ( curly) dark brown, eyes blue grey, rather small nose, one and a half upper front teeth and tip of one middle finger missing, 4 dots left arm. Information to the Head Constable, Reigate. Found in pockets, an old silver watch, No. 61220, chased back, " Cylindre 10 rubis" on inside case, crescent, crown, " No. 753" scratched on inside of outer case, metal chain with ring at end, a 6- chamberedJ revolver, black handle, broad arrow, crown and " R" on right side, loaded with blank cartridges, in one of which is a piece of wool, bullet shape, and a copy of the Daily News, dated August 29th, 1907.
