W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, » / sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must, be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension i* sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, anu of 5 » . per photograph or skctch of a stolen article, unless the article it large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from fi to 10s 4 remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Beery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an offlctr of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. < Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear •> number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. * The force which causes particulars concerning delinquent) oi stolen property tf. be inserted in the POLICE GAZBTTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to thi number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. At one time he owned race horses. 2.— C Division.— For obtaining 2 suits by false pretences — ARTHUR DONNELL, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel, prominent ears and cheek bones; dress, blue serge jacket suit, bowler hat, lace boots. A native of Hampshire. Warrant issued. 3.— D Division.— For obtaining 10s. 6d. by a worthless cheque, No. N. L. 32874, on the Union of London and Smith's Bank, 2 Princes Street, E. C., 17th June— G. F. LANCASTER, alias CATCHPOLE and STEWART, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., good build, completion ruddy, hair ginger, moustache reddish, eyes pierc- ing, rather sunken; dress, dark brown or specified jacket suit, dark soft felt hat. In possession ' f two stolen cheque books on the Union of London and Smith's Bank, 2 Princes Street ( lst contained 26 unused cheques, Nos. N. L. 32874 to 32900; 2nd, on Notting Hill Gate Branch, containing about 20 unused cheques, Nos. B 84934, to about 84954, several have been uttered in the West of England). ( See Case No. 3, 12th ult.) Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 4.— D Division-— For obtaining 5s. by fraud, 16th ult.— H. ALLEN, alias PERRY and J. E. WILLIS, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair light, moustache reddish brown; dress, dark jacket suit, black hard felt hat. Appearance of a foreman cf works. He calls upon engineers, builders, & c., gives orders for materials, and under the pretence of having lost or left home without money, obtains small sums. Warrant issued. 5.— E Division.—^ or stealing £ 14, 4th ult.— FRANK WILSON, age 53, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, slightly round shoulders, com- plexion and hair dark, wears glasses, suffers from bronchitis; wearing dark overcoat, dark striped jacket, black hard felt hat. A carpenter; suppDsed tramping the country. May be found at casual wards or workhouses. 6.— K Division.— For stea'ing, between 20th and 22nd ult., monies of the Progressive Club, Pier Street, Poplar— FRANK SINGER, age 36, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion dark, hair, moustache, and eyes brown, Roman nose, pointed chin, turns his feet outwards; dress, Blue serge jacket suit, light grey cap, lace boots. Accom- panied by his wife and girl, age 9. A native of Poplar. Warrant issued. 7.— R Division.— For stealing £ 9 12s.— ARTHUR GOODRICH, age 36 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, round shoulders, complexion pale, hair and slight moustache light, may now be clean shaved, wears pince- nez, walks badly, an inveterate cigarette smoker; dress, blue serge or light check suit, straw hat, brown boots. A stage manager; native of London. May seek employment at music halls in the provinces, or be found in company of music hall artists. Warrant issued. 8.— Division.— For embezzling £ 3— FREDERICK SAVAGE age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 4 to 6 in., round shoulders, complexion fair, hair light, moustache ( drooping) sandy, eyes blue, slightly flat feet; dress, black morning coat and vest, dark trousers, black hard felt hat, shoes. A native of South Croydon. Warrant issued. 9.—. SP division.— For stealing 36 sheep, 25th ult.— JAMES OSBORN ( supposed false), age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, com- plexion sallow, thin face, hair, moustache and eyes dark, scar right jaw; dress, blue serge suit, drab colour mackintosh, grey cap, patent leather button boots. A dealer. May endeavour to leave the country. 10.— S Division.— or stealing, 29th nit.. a gold watch; 1 diamond and opal ring; 1 gold curb bracelet, £ 2 piece and old Belgian coin attached; 1 gold chain bracelet; 1 gold ring; and 1 black leather hand bag, fitted with gun metal watch— THOMAS EVANS, alias THOMAS WITTY EVANS, Office No. 550- 07, age 27, height 5 ft. 8f in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown, cut scar left eyebrow, on chin and palm of left hand, mole each side of neck; dress, blue serge suit, dark check cap. Sentenced at Glamorgan County Sessions, 23rd July, 1906, to 9 months hard labour for larceny. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 11.— Newbury ( County).— For obtaining a horse, dog cart, and a set of brown harness by false pretences— ARTHUR THOMPSON, age about 48, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache very dark; dress, dark suit with light stripes, green tie, black bowler hat, lace boots, carried a brown bag and overcoat with velvet collar. Stated he was travelling for a firm of soap manufacturers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gamble, Newbury. 12.— Wokingham ( County).— For stealing £ 5 18s.— CHARLES BAKER, age 30, height 5 ft. in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel, mole and scar left cheek; dress, dark tweed suit and cap, greenish flannel collar. A groom; supposed at native of Islington. May be found at horse re- positories. Is a Reservist of the Army Service Corps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Goddard, Wokingham. BREOONSHIRE. n.— Builth ( County).— For not appearing to a summons for larceny — MARSHALL HALL, alias GILBERT HALL, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes ( supposed) grey; dress, grey jacket and vest, black and white plaid breeches, grey cap, Hrown leggings, strong brown boots. A horse trainer; late of Worcester. May be found at livery stables. Has lately been in partnership at Builth Wells. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Flye, Brecon, or Sergeant of Police, Builth Wells. BUG KING HA MS HIRE. 14 — Chesham ( County).— For assault, at Penn, 15th ult.— ARTHUR WALTERS, age about 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes hazel; dress, dark jacket and breeches, cap, brown leather leg- gings. He belongs to the Army Reserve. An in- surance agent; late of Beaconsfield, Bucks. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Summers, High Wycombe. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 15.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For obtain- ing credit by fraud, between lst and 5th ult.— — LADDIE, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 to 10 in., complexion fresh, thick hps, hair dark, clean shaved, large eyes, Welsh accent; dress, brown striped jacket suit, plaid cap, brown boots, maker Hart, Shaftesbury Avenue, London, carried an umbrella with crook handle. A tramp- ing shoemaker; supposed a native of Dublin. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rees, Conway. CHESHIRE. 17.— Altrincham { Couruy).— On commit- ment warrant for having unsound meat on his premises for sale; also on a commitment warrant for non- payment of £ 3 9s. 6d, fine and costs imposed for using an unlicensed slaughter- house— HENRY JOHNSON LONGDEN, age 45, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, cut mark left hand. An engineer; native of Congleton, Cheshire. Warrant issued. 19— Crewe ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, a silver curb albert with shield shape pendant; 1 pair braces; 3 gold plated studs and links, chased; 1 pair red cotton socks; 1 white shirt, " Miller" in ink on tab — EDWARD , age 27 to 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown; dress, dark brown tweed suit, supposed green stripes, trousers tight fitting, grey mixture cap , white knitted scarf, lace boots. Pearson, Crewe. 20.— Hazel Grove ( County).— For house- breaking at Bramhall, 12th nit., and stealing 3 lady's gun- metal watches ( medium, small and very small); small gold- plated chased locket and fine pattern chain ; 12 boxes ( small) of Maza- wattee chocolate— A YOUTH, age 17 or 18, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion dark ; wearing black or very dark suit. Information to Supt. McHale, Hazel Grove. 21.— Nantwich (. County).— Tot stealing a bicycle ( recovered) — Licence- holder LIONEL RICKERS, alias JOHN ILLINGWORTH, GILL, WHITE, MITCHELL, GOODALL, & c., Office No. 3326- 02, age 32, height 5 ft. 10| in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) and moustache brown, eyes grey; scar left eyebrow and on each wrist, tumour left cheek, of good address, speaks fluently with Birmingham accent: dress, brownish grey plaid Norfolk jacket, minus belt, dark blue vest and trousers, dark tie, black hard felt hat ( broad brim). A blanket weaver; native of Green- gates, Yorks. Sentenced at Shrewsbury County Sessions, 4th April, 1905, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny from hotel. Has also been convicted at Bradford, Gateshead, Tynemouth, Leamington, Darlington, Durham, South Shields, Smethwick, York, Scarborough, and Hants Quarter Sessions. Warrant issued. CUMBERLAND. 24. — Cockermouth { County). — For ob- taining by false pretences at Maryport, 12th ult., a 9 ct. gold albert, weight li ounces — JAMES McMILLEN, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 11 in., complexion, hair and moustache dark, eyes blue, long face, very small, coarse hands, heavy gait; dress, dark tweed coat and vest, striped trousers, black tie, black hat, heavy nailed boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Illingworth, Cockermouth. DERBYSHIRE. 25.— Chesterfield ( Borough). — F.. r ob- taining, by false pretences, joiners' tools ( recovered) — CHARLES WORDEN, age about 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slightly round shoulders, good build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( heavy) light brown, turning grey, eyes blue, lost several upper teeth. A joiner; native of Camel- ford, Cornwall. Speaks with London accent. Is fond of writing letters to newspapers. Absconded 20th June. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chesterfield. DEVONSHIRE. S6.— Exeter ( bounty).— For desertinc his wife and four children — WILLIAM GEORGE WELLACOTT, alias WOLLACOTT, age 32, slight build, hair dark, last heard of at Main Dee, Cardiff. A reward of £ 1 will be paid by the Guardians of St. Thomas Union, Exeter, for the arrest of Wellacott. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Exeter. DORSETSHIRE. 27.— Poole ( County).— For obtaining 8s. by false pretences at Bourne Valley, 19th ult.— J. W. WEST, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion, hair, and moustache ( curly) dark, top of right fore finger missing, near sighted, plausible manner; dress, dark mixture suit, black bowler hat. He calls upon tradesmen and obtains money on the pretence of inserting advertisements in various papers. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended out of the United King- dom. Information to Supt. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 28. — Dumfries ( Bu- gh^.— For obtaining goods by false pretences— ELIJAH WARD, alias GEORGE AUSTIN, age 27 to 30, height about 5 ft. 7 in., stoutish build, hair and small mous- tache dark. A steeplejack; native of Yorkshire. He repaired several chimneys about a month ago, and had 3 or 4 men in his employment, and stated he represented a firm of chimney and spire builders of East Ardsley, Wakefield. He booked from Annan to Maryport per Caledonian Railway, 8th June, and forwarded ladders, chains, etc., to Ul verston. Was accompanied by his wife and 3 children and stated he was going to work at Work- ington. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dumfries. EAST LOTHIAN. 29.— Haddington ( Conwy I.— For stealing. 15th ult., at Tranent, a safety bicycle, Eadie road racing model, 24 in. frame, black enamelled, in. droop top tube, front fork been replaced with Eadie pattern, not quite fair set, North Road handle bars, celluloid grips, 26 in. wheels, plated, part of front rim very rusty, Clincher Atlas wired- on tyres, 26 by 1 § in., Eadie rat- trap pedals, John Bull toe clips, Eadie fittings throughout— PERCY LENNOX or LENNOCK, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion swarthy, sharp fea- tures, hair dark, slight moustache brown, may be clean shaved, eyes grey. He is usually employed by travelling theatrical companies as baggage man. Served 8 or 9 years in the Navy. Is also wanted by the Northumberland Police at Hexham for larceny. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, East Lothian. ( thin on top) light, moustache ginger, may now be cl6an shaved, eyes grey- blue, bad teeth, well spoken ; dress, light grey suit, light boots, wears two chains ( 1 gold colour, 1 leather). He makes himself known to officers of the Inland Revenue. Stays at good class hotels. He hired a " Wright" cycle, No. 102903, 27 in. frame, fitted with Griffin two speed gear, plain plated rims and spokes, two roller lever brakes, black grips end of brake levers, upturned handle bar with black grips, divided rubber pedals, Dunlop tyres, cut in front cover, Brampton saddle, " Wright cycle" transfer on head and down tube, £ in. pitch roller chain, frame and mudguards black enamelled, 1907 pattern, which he may dispose of. FLINTSHIRE. 31.— Mold ( County\— For stealing, 26th ult., at Connah's Quay, 6 razors, " Genuine ring" on each blade ( 1 recovered); 1 do., " Dispatch" on blade; 1 do., " Spoke" on blade, all with black handles; 3 pairs scissors ( 1 pair recovered); 1 2'> air hair clippers— GEORGE THOMPSON, age ibout 21, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair dark or black, frizzy on forehead, clean shaved; dress, dark coat and vest, light trousers, white muffler, brown cap, lace boots. Stated he was a labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davies, Mold. ESSEX. 30 - Saffron Walden ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences. 5th ult.— T. COLLINS PEPPER, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair GLA MO RGA NSHIRE . 32.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing £ 2 VEATY, alias WOODHALL and TOM DREDGAN, age 31, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair dark brown, moustache ( slight) dark, long face, 14 upper teeth missing, bottom lip drops very much when speaking, burn scar under right eye, which causes the eyelid to drop slightly, head slightly inclined to the right owing to an injury to right shoulder; dress, dark grey suit, green plaid cap, greenish tie, lace boots, much worn, wearing two wedding rings on third left finger, carried brown gloves. A music teacher; native of Anfi'eld, Liverpool, at which place he stated he was an organist. Is identical with Tom Dredgan wanted at Penarth for stealing a watch, and Woodall, wanted at Briton Ferry for stealing a gold chain. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. HAMPSHIRE- 33.— Aldershot ( County). — For stealing, 28th June, 2 pairs of boots ( recovered)— A MAN, age 28, height about 5 ft 7 in., square shoulders, complexion pale, hair dark brown, slight dark moustache, eyes dark, rather thick lips, prominent nose; dress, L. & S. W. Railway porter's green cord uniform, red tie, skull cap. A native of Somer setshire. He was a porter at Basingstoke on the L. & S. W. Railway prior to coming to Aldershot. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 34Winchester ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 5 8s. 6d., 15th inst.— PERCY PLOW- MAN, age 29, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes blue, near- sighted; wearing dark trousers, skull cap, new black gaiters, lace boots. A native of Gosport. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Smith, Winchester. 35.— I( Vonlstoirt ( County). — For obtaining 12s. 6d., by false pretences, at Eastleigh, 19th ult. JOHN HENRY CHALLIS, age about 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair and slight moustache dark, dagger supposed left forearm, right foot deformed; dress, dark suit and neckerchief, black bowler hat, very thick sole right boot. Supposed a native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Woolston. LANCASHIRE. 36.— Liverpool ( City).— For stealing £ 13 ( including a £ 5 piece), 12th ult. — ALFRED CONNOP, age 14£, looks older, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion pale, sharp features, hair light brown, eyes blue. May endeavour to enlist. 3*!.— i iverpool ( City).— For obtaining £ 6 6s. by false pretences ( marking- ink fraud), 22nd May last— HENRY GUTHRIE, alias JAMES HENRY GUTHRIE and W. BRADSHAW, Office No. 1417- 06 ( Illustrated Circular, series 73, Jgure 10), age 55, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, com- plexion sallow, hair dark brown, heavy moustache, eyes brown. A traveller; native of London. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. FRIDAY, AUGUST 2, 1907 T H E POLICE GAZETTE. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED, HEREFORDSHIRE. 38.— Ross ( County).— For stealing a silver watch and chain, makers Vickers & Vickers, Shrewsbury; and £ 3 10s.— WILLIAM McATEER alias DAWSON and WILLIAM DAWSON McINTYRE, age 24, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes hazel, irregular teeth, varicose veins right calf; dress, new dark suit, new light boots. A native of Belfast. He was dis- charged from the 4th Royal Irish Rifles about 5 years ago. Obtains employment as under servant at farm houses, and takes lodgings, awaits an op- portunity to commit a larceny, and absconds. Jackson, Driffield. parts of the country, announcing that " in order to save the enormous cost of newspaper advertise- ments," he had decided for the purpose of advertising his pictures to introduce a Cash Bonus fccheme whereby he would give to every person who sent a cheque or postal order for £ 1 before a certain date, a bonus of £ 2; to every person who sent £ 2 he would give £ 4, and to every person who sent £ 5 he would give £ 10; also that an " official organ " entitled " Ah Gold!" would be published by the Association monthly. The scheme was so arranged that the money was received before payments became due, and it is doubtful if any payments were made other than by bogus cheques.
