GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, MAY 31, 1907. VOL. XXIV., No. 2444 l. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to itolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if tufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7t. per portrait, and of 5s,. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 6s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance lor cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of • person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. LTIOBTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged bv counties. 0. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or itolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to thi number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annauce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so at to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 11. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Poit Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police the Photographs and descrip- tive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. CA MB RIDGES HIRE. 8.— Cambridge { Borough).— For obtain- ing £ 8 15s. by fraud ( cheating at cards)— VER- NON CECIL ELLINGHAM MUSGRAVE, alias GEORGE GORDON and GEORGE GLEICER, Office No. 1724- 03 ( ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR 72, Figure 15), age 28, height 5 ft. 4J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, nose inclined to right, occasionally wears glasses. An artist; native of Liverpool. Associates with swindlers and card sharpers. Has been convicted at East- bourne, Brighton, and Lewes. Absconded from bail 17th inst. Warrant issued. CHESHIRE. 9.— Runcorn { County).— For non- payment of £ 10 5s. 6d., bastardy arrears and costs— FRED- ERICK SANT, age about 24, height ( without shoes) 5 ft. 9£ in., complexion fresh, thin features, hair dark brown, eyes brown, slightly bow- legged. A gardener; native of Newton- by- Chester. He served about 3i years in the local Police Force, from which he resigned 7 or 8 months ago, prior to which he worked in various parts of the country. Ennion, Runcorn. 10. — Chester { City}. — For neglecting to notify change of residence — Licence- holder EDWARD GRIFFITHS, alias STRANGE and CLINTON, Office No. 2364- 02, age 43, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion dark, hair and eyes dark brown. A fitter; native of Chester. Sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude at the Knutsford Sessions, 7th January, 1903, for counting- house breaking and larceny. Liberated on license 17th May, 1907. DERBYSHIRE. 11.— Derby [ Borough).— For failing to re- ports- Supervisee THOMAS GASKILL, alias JOHNSON, Office No. 3517- 02, age 63, height 5 ft. 9i in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes grey, long thin nose, slightly inclined to left, scar web right thumb, blue dot back right hand, right thumb and 4th right finger injured. A painter; native of Manchester. Sentenced at Derby County Quarter Sessions, 5th April, 1905, to 6 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for larceny. To be dealt with where found. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continuei)- DURHAM. 12— Castle Eden [ County).— For fraudu- lently converting to his own use, £ 50 18s. 6d., monies of the Durham Miners' Association, be- tween 5th February and 5th April last— JOSEPH MEEKINS, age 37 or 38, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark, mous- tache sandy; dress, dark jacket suit and cap. A miner; native of Wingate. Absconded 30th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Heslop, Castle Eden. ESSEX. 13.— Romford ( County). — For stealing, 18th inst., at Hornchurch, a free- wheel bicycle, enamelled black frame, drop handle bars, 28 in. wheels, plated rims, Bowden brake back wheel, Short brake front wheel, very rusty, back wheel wobbles slightly, small piece out of outer cover, nut missing from right pedal, mud guard on back wheel broken and repaired with 6tring, Empire saddle, Lucas lamp, the front of which has been recently soldered, tool bag and pump attached— A MAN, age 23 or 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair sandy, clean shaved; dress, navy blue suit, light check cap, celluloid collar, red tie, lace boots. He ob- tained lodgings, and stated he was employed laying down electric light plant at a local nursery garden, and that the owner of the bicycle ( a fellow lodger) had lent it to him to ride to work. 14. — Romford ( County). — For stealing, 24th inst., 5 sheets; 1 blanket; 1 night dress; 1 gold curb chain bracelet, padlock and safety chain attached; and obtaining by false pretences, 23rd inst., a black vicuna suit, 38 in. breast, size 5; and 2 boys' jacket, vest and knicker suits, black— BLANCHE MARY BRYSON, alias MARY FRASER, age about 42, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, addicted to drink; dress, rough blue cloth dress, and black hat turned up at side. A native of Glasgow. She obtained lodgings at Romford, 18th inst., stating her husband was bandmaster on a yacht, and would join her at the end of the week. Identical with Mary Fraser, Case No. 13, 24th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Romford. 15.— Southend- on- Sea ( County).— For stealing jewellery and wearing apparel ( recovered) — MARY FRASER, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, addicted to drink; dress, blue rough cloth costume, black straw hat. A native of Glasgow. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend. 16.— Thorpe ( County).— For deserting his wife and 3 children, leaving them chargeable to the Tendring Union— ALBERT GEORGE GOS LING, age 34, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eves grey, 2 anchors left forearm. A labourer; native of Saint Osyth, Essex. Usually employed on public works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cowell, Thorpe- le- Soken. GLA MORGANSHIRE . 17. — Cardiff ( City). — For stealing, 25th March last, a bicycle ( recovered)— GORDON LENNOX or LENNON ( supposed false), age 34 to 36, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stiff build, com plexion fresh, hair ( going bald in front) red, long moustache light, speaks quickly, of smart ap pearance; dress, speckled suit ( cycling knickers), light cap, sometimes wears dark suit and light overcoat. Stated he was a house agent. He steals bicycles that are left unattended, changes the wheels and other fittings, then advertises the machines in newspapers, gives the number of a letter box at a newspaper office for letters to be sent, and disposes of the bicycles at a very low price. Warrant issued. . Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 18. — Dursley ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) £ 1— JOHN WOOD, age 30, height 5 ft 3 in., complexion pale, eyes dark, nose inclined to left, clasped hands and heart ( pink centre) with man and woman tattoed left forearm, left arm has beefn broken and badly set, and very small from elbow to wrist, largo lump back left hand; dress, light brown lounge jacket, vest, and cap, light grey striped trousers, pink and white tie, lace boots. Supposed a native of Birmingham. Fond of sing- ing in public houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Perkins,.. Dursley. HAMPSHIRE. Id— Aldershot ( County).— For stealing, 16th inst., a dark tweed suit, " Rimell Allsop " on buttons; 1 ooat and vest; 1 pair dark blue trousers; blue and red tie; 1 grey cap; and £ 1— HER- BERT HORTON, age 19, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., omplexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, snake ight forearm.— GEORGE GARLAND, age 19, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar left side of upper lip. Both are deserters from the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, and wearing the stolen clothing. Absconded 16th inst. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 20.— Petersfield ( Conntv).— For assault- ing a female, 23rd inst., with intent to* rob— A MAN, age about 45, height about 6 ft., slight build, complexion dark, hair light brown, beard light; dress, old black jacket, grey trousers, black bowler hat, carried a walking stick. Waters, Petersfield. 21. - Southampton ( Borough). — FRED- EKICK LLEWELLYN, Case No. 26th nit., information cancelled. 22.— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing £ 12— ANNIE SMITH, age 22, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, Welsh accent; dress, brown skirt, hat and boots. HEREFORDSHIRE. 23.— Ledbury ( County).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to Ledbury Union, 8th inst.— GEORGE BREWER, age about 26, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair light brown, moustache light, eyes ( cast in one) grey, ruptured left side, scars on one leg, very excitable. A collier; native of Bosbury, Herefordshire. ITe left Cwmcarn, Monmouthshire, 14th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Phillips, Ledbury. 24. — Ross ( County) — For stealing, 20th inst., £ 3 10s., an English lever watch, open face, silver curb chain and seal attached, maker Vickers & Vickers, Shrewsbury; 1 jacket and vest ( light grey with green and yellow stripes); 1 nair black serge trousers; 1 do., white linen cuffs, with silver links— WILLIAM DAWSON McINTYRE, alias WILLIAM DAWSON, age 25 to 28, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fair ( sunburnt), hair and moustache light, bad teeth. A farm labourer; believed a native of Greenock. Has been employed on farms in different parts of the country. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Marston, Ross. 2*.— Tunbridf/ 0 Walls ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 5 by a worthless cheque on the London and South Western Bank, 17th inst.— JAMES TOWLE, age 45, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight built . complexion sallow, hair ( thin on top) dark ( turn- ing grey), slight moustache dark, eyes grey, thin face, well educated and very plausible; dress, dark grey frock coat, white vest with black buttons, grey check trousers, white tie with pink design, silk hat, brown boots, dark brown gloves, gold watch and chain, carried an umbrella. He called at a boarding school, stated he had come from Fiji, that he was staying at a hotel in London, and' was anxious to place his daughter in a school, induced the proprietress to give him a letter of introduction to a tradesman, from whom he ob- tained the money. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Tunbridge Wells. LANARKSHIRE. 29.— Glasgow ( City).— For stealing £ 60, 11th inst.— WILLIAM C. MILNE, age 35, height 5 ft. 7^ in., complexion fair, hair dark red, mous- tache light, may be wearing glasses, upper teeth missing, wound back of right hand, of smart ap- pearance; dress, dark grey tweed suit, cap, brown leggings. A clerk. He was sent to a bank to cash a cheque for £ 60, received £ 35 in single notes, £ 15 gold, and £ 10 silver ajid bronze. May en- deavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. HER TFORDSHIRE. 25.— Ware ( County).— For obtaining 5s. by false pretences— — KING, age 45 to 50, height about 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion fresh, moustache light; dress, black cutaway ooat, pepper and salt colour trousers and vest, light tweed cap, black and white striped tie. Riding a nearly new bicycle. Supposed identical with man, Case No. 28, 22nd March last. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Duke, Ware. KENT. 2G.— West Mailing ( County).— For being concerned with 3 others ( 2 in custody) in stealing a quantity of brass fittings from fixed boilers at Aylesford, between 4th and 11th ult.— THOMAS CASTLE, age 37, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes hazel, addicted to drink. A labourer; native of New- hythe, Kent. May seek employment on public works, wharves, docks, & c.— ROBERT FOWLER, age about 32, height about 5 ft. 7 in., hair dark brown, moustache ginger, eyes blue, rather high cheek bones; dress, dark jacket and vest, moleskin trousers, P. & O. cap, heavy lace boots. A native of Ditton, Kent. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ford, West Mailing. 27 — Dover ( Borough).— For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle, flat handle bars, enamelled black, right crank has been brazed, rather large front cog, Coventry Forse Brand back tyre, Goodwear front tyre— HARRY DALE, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair ( curly) black, slight moustache, piercing eyes, sharp nose, woman wear- ing hat tattooed left forearm, North Country ac- cent; dress, dark grey suit, square pattern, velvet collar, light cap, lace boots. Has served in the Army. Supposed a native of Leicester. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dover. LANCASHIRE. 30 — Bootlo ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 10 by a worthless cheque— GEORGE E. SPAULD- ING ( supposed an American), age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion sallow, thin features, sharp nose, hair light, clean shaved, eyes blue; dress, dark grey tweed suit, grey overcoat, herring- bone pattern, light tie, black hard felt hat. Until recently he represented the Hurley Machine Com- pany, Paris and Chicago. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bootle. 31.— Southport ( Borough).— For stealing, 23rd ult. a boy's suit ( recovered)— SUSANNAH DALE, age 57, height 4 ft. 9| in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes ( one disfigured) grey; dress, black three- quarter length jacket, dark skirt, black hat, brown button boots. Had in her possession a pedlar's certificate, No. 985, issued at Southport, 22nd February, 1907. Information to the Chief Constable, Southport. MONTGOMER Y SHIRE. 32.— Newtown ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a " Raleigh Gazelle" bicycle, " No. 156432 " near seat, 24 in. frame, black enamelled, nickel plated rims, rim brakes, rat- trap pedals, flat handle bars, steel detachable mud guards, Atlas tyres, free wheel— R. SHELDON, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair and moustache light brown, eyes crossed, front teeth decayed; dress, spotted grey Norfolk cycling suit, plaid cap, old boots. OXFORDSHIRE. 33. — BicnMtor ( Canity). — For carnally knowing a girl under 16, 4th ult.— JAMES SPOONER, age about 29, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, long on top, supposed scar on left muscle. Stated he was a native of Stone, Staffordshire. May be found at farmhouses or working as a timber feller or sawyer. Believed to have served in the Army or Militia. Warrant issued.
