POLICE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, MAY 3, 1907. VOL. XXIV., No. 2436. I. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 9. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to bi taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5i to 10s. _ A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. I. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the. number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annsuce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRIOI 1.— A Division.— For forging and utter- ing receipts, thereby stealing £ 70 from his employers— FRANK HENSON, Office No. 871- 04, age 41, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes brown, clean shaved, 2 brown flesh moles right cheek, large cut scar web of left thumb; dress, black suit. A clerk. Sentenced: at York Assizes, 3rd March, 1902, to 3 years penal servitude for forging and uttering, c 66. Warrant issued. 2. — C Division.— For stealing £ 19 — FREDERICK JACKSON, alias BAILE, age 18. height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes ( full) grey, dark eyelashes, sullen appearance, very reticent; dress, grey over- coat with velvet collar, dark jacket and vest, blue trousers, plaid can. A native of London. Warrant issued. 3.— K Divisionm— For attempting to ob- tain money by false pretences— SAMUEL BUR- TON, alias BRITTON and BITAN, a Jew, age 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., comnlexion dark, hair and eyes dark brown, slightly lame right leg; dress, dark jacket suit, ? rey overcoat, velvet collar, black hard felt hat. A native of London. He inten- tionally falls over cellar flaps, & c., outside business premises, then makes claims for compensation for alleged injury to knee. Warrant issued. 4.— K Division.— For obtaining £ 10 by fraud— BENJAMIN BITAN, alias BRITTON and H. ROSE, a Jew, age 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, slightly pockmarked, hair dark, eyes dark brown; dress, dark jacket suit, blue Melton overcoat, black hard felt hat. A native of London. He obtained the above amount as com- pensation by representing that he had fallen over a defective cellar flap and injured his knee. Warrant issued. 5.— K Division.— For stealing £ 2 5s. dur- ing September last— C HARLES SIDNEY ROOKSBY, age 30, height 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes brown, clean shaved, high cheek bones and forehead, walks erect; dress, blue serge lounge suit, grey overcoat, hard felt hat. He was employed as manager at a stores at Stratford; native of Birmingham. Absconded 17th ult. Warrant issued. 6.— K Division.— For embezzling 10s. Cd., 4th ult.— ALBERT AVIS, age 21, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion ruddy, thin face, hair brown, eyes blue, high cheek bones, military bearing; dress, black mourning coat and vest, blue trousers, black cap. A native of London. Warrant issued. T— M Division .— For stealing clothing and a Post Office Savings Bank Book from his lodg- ings; and forgery— JOHN WILLIAM THOMP- SON, age about 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., com- plexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes grey; dress ( supposed stolen clothing), dark grey suit with light stripe, grey tweed cap, lace boots. Supposed a native of Manchester. Warrant issued. 8.— R Division,— For obtaining money by false pretences— GEORGE H. BAKER, age 43, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache ( turning grey) and eyes brown; wearing long grey overcoat, dark tie, hard felt hat. Warrant issued. BERKSHIRE. 9.— Abingdon ( County).— For embezzling 6s. and other sums— HAROLD TUFFREY, age 18, height about 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, ulcer on one ankle; dress, blue serge jacket, fancy striped vest, check trousers, cap, low shoes, all shabby. A journey- man baker; native of Maidenhead. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Abingdon. \ 0— Maidenhead ( County).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— ARTHUR LINDSEY, age 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, heart pierced with dagger, cross flags, hands crossed over heart, and " True love " tattooed right forearm, 2 females in tights ( one wrapped round with Union Jack) left forearm: dress, light check jacket suit, check cap, lace boots. A baker; native of Aldershot, stated he was em- ployed at the Co- operative Stores. He obtained a bicycle with a view to purchase and decamped. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Maidenhead. CHESHIRE. 11.— Birkenhead ( County).— For unlaw- ful wounding at Great Saughall, 24th ult.— JOHN O'GRADY, age 25, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, slight moustache dark, eyes blue, walks erect, takes short steps; dress, grey jacket suit, grey cap, green tie, black button boots. A farm labourer; native of Riverstown, Sligo. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sutherland, Birkenhead. 12.— Oakmere ( County). — For obtaining money by false pretences— H. WILDE, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache sandy; dress, old brown overcoat, grey jacket suit, black bowler hat. He represented that he was a collector for the Fresh Air Fund, promoted by a weekly periodical, and produced a book containing the conditions and advantages to poor children by aid of this fund. Had in his possession a bicycle. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Beeley, Oakmere. CUMBERLAND. li.— Cookermouth ( CoMnty).— For leav- ing his wife and family chargeable to the Union— JAMES GARDINER age 30 height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair and mous- tache ( thin) light, eyes blue, scar bridge of nose, over one eyebrow, tips of 2 fingers of one hand missing. A collier or quarryman. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Illingworth, Cockermouth. DERBYSHIRE. U. — Renishaw ( County). — For forging and uttering an order for the payment of £ 16 Is. 6dL, at Williams & Deacon's Bank, Ltd., Dronfield, 2nd March last— ERNEST PETER CLARK, age 32, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion fresh, long thin face, hair brown, slight moustache light brown, walks erect, of smart appearance and good address; dress, dark grev Chesterfield overcoat, brown and green mixture jacket and vest with faint green stripes, forming a check, dark grey trousers with faint light stripes, black tie with white spots, black hard felt hat, lace boots. A printer and naner bag manufacturer's canvasser and collector; supposed a native of Sheffield. Usually visits Temperance Hotels, kc. Absconded 13th ult. Warrant issued. 15.— Renishaw ( County).— For embezzle- ment, between 8th and 17th ult., at Greenhill Norton— BERNARD LINDLEY, age 14 ( looks older), height 5 ft., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes dark brown; dress, light brown mix- ture jacket and vest, blue serge trousers, blue muffler with white spots, light brown cap, metal shield with " Millhouses" inscribed thereon, at- tached, heavy lace boots. A labourer or milk carrier; native of Sheffield. He served a term at an Industrial School, Sheffield, from where he was discharged about 18 months ago. Absconded 20th ult Warrant issued. DORSETSHIRE. 16.— Poole ( County).— For non- payment of £ 9 15s., maintenance arrears— WILLIAM BUR- ROWS, age 56, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and beard turning grey, eyes hazel, female tattooed inside right forearm, tree, tent, < S: c., muscle of right arm; dress, blue serge suit, yacht- ing cap, brown boots. IS.— Aldershot ( County). — For stealing £ 14— LIONEL JOHN SMITH, age 28£, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, has a peculiar stoopiug walk, does not swing his arms, speaks French; probably wearing blue suit. A clerk; supposed native of Birmingham. Is a private of the Army Service Corps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. IV— St- Neots ( Oounty).— For stealing ( bailee), 5th ult., at Buckd'en, a motor bicycle ( re- covered)— JOHN DOWNS, age 19, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes grey, eyebrows meet, several front unper teeth missing. A labourer; native of Ayr. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Griffin, St. Neots. KENT. 20.— Tunbridge Wells ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 5 by false pretences— WILLIAM JOHN NEALE, age about 27, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion dark, hair and slight moustache brown, eyes large; dress, black coat and vest, bell bottom trousers, cap. A carman; native of Matfield, Kent. Was accompanied by his wife, age about 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, hair curly in front, of delicate appearance. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Tunbr'dge Wells. LANCASHIRE. 21. — Liverpool ( City). — For obtaining money by false pretences, 12th ult.— LEONARD DE BAYER, age 36, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, hair light, slight moustache, prominent teeth, stoops slightly, walks badly; wearing frock coat and silk hat, gold rimmed glasses. He represented that he was principal of the Bayer Coy., Ltd. ( a well- known medical firm), and obtained £ 21 from a person whom he appointed as his local agent. He calls on medical men, and under the pretence of being connected with the firm mentioned, obtains loaus. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 22 .— Salford ( Borough).— For failing to report— Licence- holder THOMAS KENYON WILLIAMS, alias WILSON and JONES, Office No. 1960- 01, age 53, height 5 ft. 9i in., complexion nale, hair dark brown, eyes grey. A labourer, native of Leeds. Sentenced at Brighton Sessions, 26th June, 1903, to 5 years penal servitude for housebreaking. Licensed 13th ult. d 237. Information to Chief Constable Hallam Salford. LINCOLNSHIRE. 23.— Scunthorpe ( County).— For stealing, 13th ult., an " Ajax " bicycle, black enamelled, red lined, 24 in. frame, straight handle bars, front rim brake, free wheel, right pedal rubber, left rat trap, A. l Clincher tyres, front mudguard black and red lined, back nlain black, Brooks' saddle, one spring broken, plated oil lamp, tool bag containing screw hammer, 3 spanners, 1 pair cover clips, and. oil can— TOM JACKSON, age 25, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, moustache brown, supposed blind left eye or covered with pale blue film; dress, black ribbed jacket and vest, dark cord trousers, blue spotted collar aud front, black muffler, blue cap with shiny peak, lace boots. He was employed at the Frod'ingham Iron and Steel Works as a boilermaker's labourer. Is believed to be well known at Deptford, Greenwich, and Lewis- ham, and has been employed on public works by the London County Council. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Holmes, Scunthorpe. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 24.— Newport ( Borough).— For leaving his wife chargeable to the Poor Law Union, Newport 29th December, 1906— MOSES ABEL, a Jew, age 48, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair reddish brown, moustache sandy, short- sighted, wears gold rimmed glasses. A dentist. Absconded September, 1906, accom- panied by a woman and several children. Warrant issued. A reward of £ 1 will be paid bv the Guardians of the Poor Law Union, Newport, for such informa- tion leading to the arrest of Abel. Information to the Head Constable, Newport. NORFOLK. 25.— Aylsham ( County).— For with- holding £ 4 2s. 8d., the property of a Registered Friendly Society— EDWARD ROBERT ALLEN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion and hair dark, moustache light, scar on left groin; dress, dlark blue jacket, red woollen vest, dark grey trousers, dark cap. Has been employed as a tram conductor at Bow, London; native of Hevingham. Norfolk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Flint, Aylsham. A grainer and writer; native of London. Sentenced at Maidstone Assizes, 28th November, 1902, to 5 years penal servitude for arson ( stack). Licensed 27th August, 1906. C 581. Has been employed as housekeeper, may seek employment at laundries. A widow; native of Seaham Harbour, Durham. May visit Halifax, Yorkshire, and Seaham Harbour. Warrant issued. Warrant issued. 32.— Eastbourne ( Borough).— For obtain- ino' food and lodgings by false pretences ( 2 cases)— FRED DORMAN, alias ROSS JENNER, age about 22, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., rather stout build, complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes brown, clean shaved, large hands, large scar top of fore- head, lame left leg; dress, light grey striped jacket and trousers, dark vest or dark lounge suit, greenish tweed or dark motor can, pink and white tie, new button boots, white metal chain. Stated he was a native of Holloway, and had obtained employment at the Corporation Motor Omnibus Depot, and that he was engaged at the Hippo- drome. Had in his possession a motor car driver's licence. Warrant issued. 33.— Eastbourne ( Borough).— For steal- ing £ 4 3s. 3d. by trick, 27th ult. WILLS, age 23 to 25, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion sallow, full face, hair dark ; dress, dark p- rey suit with light stripes, black hard felt hat, brown boots. He took a room at a Temperance Hotel, called at a shop, selected a suit case, value 16s. 9d., asked that it mav be sent to the hotel with change of a £ 5 note, obtained possession of same and absconded. WORCES TERSHIRE. 34.— Worcester { City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 15th ult., a silver watch ( recovered) ; and a silver cigarette case, chased, " A. W. B." en- graved on back— WILLIAM TAYLOR ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, hair brown, clean shaved; dress, o- rev mixture suit and overcoat, light tie. Appear- ance oif a groom. He took lodigings and asked to be allowed to go to his bedroom to adjust a bandage, and left soon afterwards. Warrant issued. 35. — Worcester ( City).— For stealing, be- tween 15th and 16th ult., from lodoings, a vest ( recovered) ; an old blue muffler; 1 pair blue cotton stockings: and 2s. 6d.— ALFRED NORRIS, alias T. BANNER, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in. complexion fresh, hair and mous- tache ( slight) brown, slouching gait; dress, fawn coloured', plaid jacket, light cord trousers and vest, light spotted muffler, fawn coloured cap. May be found working for farmers or market gardeners; stated he was a native of Bromsgrove. Information to the Chief Constable Worcester. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 36.— Pickering ( County).— For neglecting to maintain his wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the Scarborough Poor Law Union— JOHN ROBERT STOCKDALE, age 30, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, rather long face, high cheek bones, hair and moustache light brown, small bald patch on head above right eye, small piece out of one ear, slovenly gait. Fauldruff was, on 17th July last, served with an expulsion order under the Aliens' Act, requiring him to leave the United Kingdom within 14 days of that date.
