All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to TUB EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to bk taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. LTIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property if, be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annouee- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows : — ( a) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. (£) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with- out option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break int8 churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. Bankruptcy offences. Being found on enclosed premises. Breaking into churches, houses, thopa, warehouses, & c. Burglary. Cattle stealing. Coining. Conspiracies of all descriptions. Embezzlement. But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been pre- viously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or con- victions if possible, also the No. published in the list of Habitual Criminals. The above reward will be paid by Miss Ada L. Bird, Abbotsford Hotel, Upper Montague Street, London, W. C., to any person giving such informa- tion as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the above described and the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount of such property recovered. 4.— D Division.— For misappropriating a banker's cheque for £ 13 3s. 3d.— MAX HAR- TELT, a German, age about 45, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, hair brown, screws his mouth up when speaking; dress, slate colour jacket suit, black hard felt hat or grey cap. A native of Minehead, Somerset. He was employed by a mineral water manufacturer. BERKSHIRE. t.— Wokingham ( bounty).— For stealing a pair of dark trousers with light stripes, and for obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 27th ult,— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair light; dress, dark jacket, white cord trousers, supposed wearing the stolen pair underneath. He took lodgings and stated he was foreman of a telephone gang. ( Sup- posed identical with Frederick Jennings, Case No. 32, 29th ult.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Goddard, Wokingham. A labourer; supposed a native of Bermondsey. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lait, Fenny Stratford. CARNARVONSHIRE. 10.— Bangor ( County).— For obtaining £ 9 6s., by a fictitious cheque— E. S. ALLIN, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes brown; dress, brown suit, black hard felt hat. The cheque was drawn in his favour, alleged by Edward J. Taylor, and was obtained by him from a clergy- man on the pretence of knowing his family. He produced small cards, " E. S. Allin & Co., Manu- facturers and Importers of Dental Materials, Bristol," thereon. ( Supposed identical with Ernest S. Allin, Case No. 10, 22nd ult.) Warrant issued. Hicks, Broxton. 12.— Nantwich ( County). — For stealing, 24th December, 1906, at Barbridge, a shovel ( re- covered)— PERCY ELKIN, age 14, height 4 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; wearing dark suit, cap, strong lace boots. Will be found in company of canal boatmen. A native of Burslem. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sherwin, Nantwich. DEVONSHIRE. 13.— Barnstaple ( Borough).— For stealing £ 2 lis., monies of the Y. M. C. A., Barnstaple— JOHN WADE, alias WADE ABBOTT, age 35 height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexioi sallow, sharp features, hair ( turning grey) browD. clean shaved, eyes blue, occasionally wears glasses, flat feet. An Insurance Agent. May be found at Y. M. C. A. rooms. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Barnstaple DURHAM. 14 — Stockton - on - Tees ( County).— For stealing, 3rd inst., a gold albert, 2 medals, and a watch ( recovered).— A MAN, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache brown; dress, dark mix- ture tweed jacket and trousers, lighter colour vest, felt hat, white shirt with pale blue stripes. He took lodgings, and stated that he had obtained employment at the Home and Colonial Stores, and during the absence of the landlady, decamped with the articles, which were afterwards found pledged at Thornaby- on- Tees. 15.— Stockton - on - Tees ( County).— CHARLES HODGSON, wanted for false pretences and larceny ( Case No. 9, 29th ult.), is identical with GEORGE BOWMAN McKENZIE SPROAT, age 31, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fair, hair ( bald) brown; dress, navy blue suit, light cap, lace boots. A joiner; native of South Shields. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hildreth, Stockton- on- Tees. 16.— Gateshead ( Borough).— For failing to notify change of address — Licence- holder ANNIE WATSON, alias ELIZABETH ALEX- ANDER, ANN HENDERSON, ANN ALEX ANDER, and ELIZABETH HARRISON, Office No. 1207- 00, age 41, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, scar on left temple, faint birth mark on right arm, scar back of left forefinger; dress, rough black dress and shawl. A charwoman ; native of Dipton. Sentenced at Dur- ham Assizes, 2nd March, 1905, to 3 years penal servitude for burglary. Licensed 9th March, 1907. X f 1. A labourer; native of Rattlesdon. Has served in the 3rd Suffolk Regiment. Warrant issued. 18.— Brentwood ( County).— For abscond- ing with workhouse clothing, lst inst.— HENRY DANIEL SMITH, age 39, height 5 ft. 6 in., weight 12 stone, complexion dark, large features, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown; dress, blue pilot coat, cord vest with sleeves, cord trousers, all stamped " Poplar Union," nailed boots. A labourer; native of Poplar. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marden, Brentwood. 19.— Grays ( County).— For obtaining 7 yds. navy blue alpaca and 4| yards of blue sateen dress lining, by false pretences, 5th inst.— A WOMAN, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 1 in., complexion pale, full face, hair and eyes ( full) dark; dress, fawn colour three- quarter length jacket, grey skirt with 3 or 4 rows of green braid or velvet at bottom, black velvet hat with white sprays. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. GLA MORGA N SHIRE. 20.— Cardiff ( City).— For wounding— ANASTATIA CIIOMATIONAS, age 23, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, hair lieht, slight moustache, inclined to curl, boil scar on side of neck; dress, dark coat and trousers, grey vest and cap. Of Greek nationality. This man was paid off the s. s. Ethtlwind at Hull on 12th ult. Warrant issued. 21.— Cardiff ( City). — For stealing eight 56 lbs. weights ( recovered)— EDWIN RICHARDS, age 27, height 5 ft. 6£ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, burn scar centre of fore- head, cut scar over left eye, scar base left thumb, burn scar left side of chest, boil scar right shoulder, 2 brown moles and several pock- marks on back, scar outside left thigh and burn scar left shin; wearing dark clothes and cap. A labourer; native of Newport, Mon. Warrant issued. 22.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing, lst inst., a horse— ARCHIBALD REES, age 23, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, blue dot base right thumb, scar outside base right index finger, indistinct tattooing base left thumb, scar back lst and 2nd left fingers, 1 small brown moles centre of abdomen, large burn scar outside left leg above ankle. A haulier; native of Llantrissant. Believed to have been convicted at Neath. Warrant issued. 2 5.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing ( bailee\ 21st ult., a silver watch and gold chain— GEORGE L TAYLOR, age about 23, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, square shoulders, hair inclined to ginger, clean shaved, eyes grey; dress, navy blue suit, bowler liat, brown boots. Usually carries cloves and a stick. Stated he was a contractor. D Warrant issued. 24.— Cardiff (. City).— For absconding with workhouse clothing— ELI WEST, age 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark ( turning grey), eyes grey, ruptured; dress, dark tweed coat and vest, cord trousers, all stamped " Cardiff Union." Warrant issued. 25.— Cardiff ( City).— For absconding with workhouse clothing— MICHAEL HAGON, age 66, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, wears a beard; dress, tweed coat and vest, cord trousers, striped Welsh flannel drawers, blucher boots, all stamped " Cardiff Union " or " Ely Workhouse." Warrant issued. 26.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing £ 1, 9t, h ult.—' WILLIAM HENRY WILLIAMS, age 36, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache brown, large head, walks badly; dress, brown suit, bowler hat. A traveller; native of Newport, Pembroke. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE . 27.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing, between 27th January, and 5th March last, a number of carpenter's tools, some may be stamped " T. Olpin " — WALTER SUMMERS, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., stout build, full face, bloated, mous- tache brown, may now be clean shaved, addicted to drink; dress, old blue suit, muffler, black bowler hat. A cabinet maker. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 28.— Alton ( County).— For stealing clothing, 6th inst.— WILLIAM REEVES, age 25, height 5 ft. 4| in., complexion fresh, hair red, eyes blue, female and anchor tattooed right forearm, birds, flowers, and " Jamie" left forearm. A native of Marlborough, Wilts.— THOMAS BAYLISS, age 20, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes grey, blue dot back of left hand. A native of Rl^ ymney, Monmouth.— ARTHUR JOSEPH HENDERSON, age 20, height 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion sallow, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar back of right knee, leg, and left wrist. A native of Limehouse, London. They are deserters from the lst Welsh Regiment. Warrants issued. 29.— Alton ( County).— For stealing £ 13, lst inst.— BERTIE CALE, age 21, height 5 ft. U in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar left thumb and back of left hand; dress, dark blue suit, light cap, brown boots. A native of Birmingham. Is a deserter from the 2nd War- wickshire Regiment. Warrant issued. 30.— Alton ( County).— For larceny ( lodgings) — CHARLES TURNER, age 48, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes grey; dress, dark overcoat, blue serge suit, dark cap. A groom; native of Wandsworth. Absconded from Headley, 4th inst. Warrant issued* Information to Supt. James, Alton. HER TFORDSHIRE. 31.— St. Albans ( CountyV— For obtaining money by false pretences COOK, age 25 to 30, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark, pleasant manner. Stated he was collecting money for a gymnasium, which was about to be started at the local Post Office. ( Is believed identical with Man, Case No. 7, 29th December, 1905, and A. Norris, Case No. 28, 5th inst.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Turner, County Police Office, St. Albans KENT. '> 2. — Chatham ( County). — For obtaining £ 2 by false pretences— MAJOR GRANT, alias BEAUMONT ( supposed false), age about 60, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., hair ( bald on top) and moustache grey, space between upper front teeth, of military appearance; dress, tweed suit tinged with yellow, cap, black leather leggings. He visits hotels, hires stabling for hunters, then states he is short of money, obtains an advance, and decamps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rhodes, Chatham.- FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 11( 07. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. .53.— E Division.— For shopbreaking and stealing £ 21 16s. 4d.— Licence- holder EDWARD WYNDHAM MOORE, alias MALLISON, ROSS, GRANT, and GASCOIGNE- MOORE, Office No. 2548- 00, age 42, height 5 ft. lOf in., well built, hair ( going bald) and moustache dark brown ( now clean shaved), eyes hazel, small pock mark on temple, mole back of neck, of smart appearance, is extremely plausible and talkative; dress, dark suit with white stripes, " Record " on trousers but- tons, dark overcoat, velvet collar, black hard felt hat. A builder; native of Ware. Had in his possession a small hand bag. Was seen at Hunger- ford, Wiltshire, 8th inst., and has visited Marl- borough and Swindon. Sentenced at the Central Criminal Court, 25th July, 1904, to 3 years penal servitude for forging and uttering a cheque. Has also been convicted of similar offences and fraud at Norwich, Dorchester, East Kent, Stafford, and Oxford. Licensed 25th October, 1906. P e 280. Warrant issued. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 34.— K Division.— For stealing £ 433 6s Id. — JOHN ROBERT VAUGHAN, alias MAR- SHALL, age 50, height about 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair and moustache ( cut short) brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, large ears, walks slowly and erect; dress, frock coat, dark vest and trousers, silk hat, dark tie, lace boots, usually wears a gold albert, and carries an umbrella. He was employed as cashier at Stores at Stratford till 14th ult.; supposed a native of Bradford. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W.
