Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an ojliiv of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear • number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. S. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension tr recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any unnounr* ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result ( r< r » such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded to as to be receiwi not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. Has been convicted in London, and at Liverpool and Manchester. A stoker; native of London. A superintendent of catering depots; late of First Avenue, Hoe Street, Walthamstow. May be ac- companied by A WOMAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion pale, hair very dark, teeth bad in front, of good address. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. CHESHIRE. ll.— Dukinfieid ( County). — For stealing from his lodgings, 9th inst., a silver English lever watch, No. 54452, white dial, steel hands, flat glass, engine turned case, maker's name, supposed " Gibson, Belfast"; 1 short silver chain, curb pat- tern, small links; 1 silk neckerchief, 36 in. square, small check, indigo blue and white— THOMAS TAYLOR ( proper name supposed FREDERICK PROFFITT), age 36 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 4 in., compleion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, slight moustache brown; dress, grey suit ( double- breasted vest, trousers stitched right knee), grey tweed cap, blue silk neckerchief, lace boots. A silk weaver; native of Macclesfield. Occasionally works in cotton mills. Was discharged with ignominy from the Army in 1906. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Croghan, Dukinfield. CORNWALL. 12.— Falmouth ( County).— For obtaining, £ 11 14s., by false pretences ( fictitious cheque), 4t'n inst.— ERNEST S. ALLIN, age 24, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes brown, rather high narrow forehead; dress, overcoat, green shade, brown check suit, white woollen scarf, black hard felt hat. Is said to be a dealer in dental instruments and other requisites, and employed by a firm at Bristol. He visits towns where his father ( who was a Minister, now deceased) was formerly stationed, gains the confidence of people, and induces them to advance cash or cheques purporting to be drawn in his favour, but which are fictitious. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Endean, Falmouth. CUMBERLAND. 13.— Penrith ( Coanty).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 23rd ult., a gold hunter, f plate, keyless English lever watch, No. 33699, " Wilson, 29 Middlegate, Penrith, 33699," on dial and move- ments; 3 Viyella coloured day shirts, '' Yiyella, N. Arnison & Sons, shirtmakers, Penrith, 5," stamped on inside of necks; 1 greenish grey cap, " N. Arnison & Son, Penrith," on inside— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair and moustache dark, of smart annearance; dress, dark blue serge suit, tweed caD, diamond pin shape of a pheasant, with enamelled head, carried a fawn colour overcoat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ross, Penrith. DERBYSHIRE. 14.— Chesterfield ( Borough). — For ob- taining by false pretences, 24th July, 1905, a quantity of picks, shovels, & c. ( recovered)— WIL- LIAM BALM, alias HARRY WILLIAMS, age 46, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., good build, moustache dark; may be wearing a beard, long scar left thumb and on 2nd right finger. A ganger. He represented that he was a sub- contractor and re- quired the articles for use on some works in the neighbourhood. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chesterfield. ESSEX. 15.— Grays ( County).— For soliciting and enticing a maidservant to steal jewellery— HARRY OSBORN, age 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., rather slight build, hair light brown, moustache light, eyes blue, fir tree tattooed right forearm; dress, light brown jacket, brown striped tweed trousers, dark cap, white neckerchief, heavy lace boots. Is a Reservist of the 2nd Royal Irish Fusiliers. Car- ried a waterproof parcel, and had a revolver in his possession. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 16.— Swansea ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to his bail charged with embezzling £ 1 4s. 4d.— ALFRED CHARLES RICHARDS, age 33, height 6 ft., complexion, hair, and mous- tache dark, eyes grey. A native of Swansea. Well educated and of good appearance. May seek em- ployment in solicitor's office. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Swansea. GLOUCES TERSHIRE . 17.— Chipping Sodhury ( County).— Yor stealing 10 sacks of oats— JOHN JUDGE, age about 30, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark, clean shaved, crucifix tattooed on chest; wearing brown tweed riding suit. A coachman; has served in Royal Field Artillery. Believed native of Glasgow or Edinburgh. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Phelps, Chipping Sodbury. 1*.— Stroud ( Uouuly).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— WALTER CRADDOCIC, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., hair and slight moustache dark; dress, striped flannel suit, cap, brown boots. — WAL- LACE WEST, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., hair brown, large head; dress, dark jacket and vest, check trousers, patches on boots. They answer advertisements in theatrical newspapers, offering articles advertised for, obtain payment for same, but fail to supply the goods. Had with them two bicycles ( lst, " The King " transfer on head, Rudge- Whitworth handle bars, New Deparr ture back pedalling brake, plated rims, British tyres ( front one cut), flaw in gear wheel, Brooks' saddle. 2nd, raised handle bars, no tips, New Departure back pedalling brake, Clincher tyres, jointless front rim, Clincher back rim, Lycett saddle, rat- trap pedals), which they hired and may have now disposed of. Supposed wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Biggs, Stroud. HAMPSHIRE. 19 .— Aldershot ( County).— For stealing £ 15, llth inst.— WILLIAM BROWN REID, age 20i, height 5 ft. 7^ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache ( slight) dark, eyes brown, large boil right cheek, mole under right armpit, of smart appearance; wearing uniform of 2nd Scottish Rifles, from which regiment he deserted. A native of Glasgow. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 20.— Andover ( County).— For stealing a suit of clothes; 1 " Coventry Challenge" bicycle; and £ 3 10s.— ALBERT FRASER, age 21, height 5 ft. 3^ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, " True love" and pierced heart ( supposed) left arm; dress, blue tweed suit with grey squares ( trousers much too large for him). A native of Liverpool. Is a deserter from the 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bowles, Andover. 21 .— Fareham ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 8th inst., a horse; landau; wagonette; and 2 sets of harness— W. GAS- COIGNE, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown; dress, blue serge suit, blue overcoat, black hard felt hat, sometimes wears a cap. A horse coper; supposed a native of London. He rents stabling and attends markets, sales, purchases horses, & c., in payment of which he tenders cheques drawn on a local bank, where he has opened a small account, the cheques are invariably returned marked insufficient. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Carman, Fareham. 22.— Lyndhurst ( County).— For stealing, 21st February last, at Milton, a bicycle ( re- covered); 1 pair brown boots, size 8; and £ 10— FRED LUPTON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair very light, complexion pale, thin face, clean shaved; dress, overcoat, dark suit of clothes, black bowler hat, button or the stolen boots. Has been employed at hotels and may seek similar employment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wakeford, Lyndhurst. 23.— Ringwood ( County).— For burglary, 23rd ult., and stealing property described in Case No. 58, 8th inst. JAMES, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, hair light brown, moustache ginger; wearing dark overcoat and tweed cap. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Mayes, Ringwood. 24. — Portsmouth ( Borough). — For em- bezzlement— WILLIAM P. YINN, age 23 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion florid, hair light brown, slight moustache brown, eyes hazel ; believed wearing a light, gr° v tweed overcoat with squares, cap. A photographer's canvasser. Ab- sconded 22nd January last. May be accompanied b- his wife, short, wears gold framed glasses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 25.— Stanground ( County).— For obtain- ing 16s. 6d., by false pretences, at Fletton, 26th ult. — W. H. SMITH ( supposed false), age 25 bo 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., moustache ( waxed at ends) light brown, impediment in speech; gearing brown overcoat and cap. He called on small shopkeepers, represented himself as a photographer's canvasser, and stated that owing to slackness of trade his employer was reducing his price for photographs. Had several price lists in his possession. ( Is identical with Man, described in Case No. 35, lst inst.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wilson, Stanground, Peterborough. KENT. 26.— West Mailing ( County).— For ob- taining food and lodgings by false pretences, at Wrotham, 4th ult.— EMMA BARBER, alias ALICE FOSTER, age 38 to 40, height about 5 ft., complexion fresh, rather full round face, high forehead, hair and eyes dark, several front teeth missing; dress, dark grey three- quarter length jacket, black skirt, red jersey with large brass buttons, French sailor hat, trimmed green plaid ribbon and grey spotted feathers, fur, black gloves, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ford, West Mailing. 27 — Ramsgate ( Borough).— Yor stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— WILLIAM SMITH, age about 50, height about 5 ft. 9 in., moustache and side whiskers ginger, wears glasses; dress, long black overcoat, light jacket, dark trousers, P. & O. cap with shiny peak. He came from Deal on 3rd inst., and has been collecting rags and bones. Ab- sconded llth inst. Accompanied by a Woman, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 2 in., stout build, complexion dark; dress, grey sacque back coat, black skirt, white silk blouse, black sailor hat and black fur necklet. Had in her possession 2 light jackets with ivory buttons. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANARKSHIRE. 28.— Glasgow ( City).— For obtaining dia- monds and opals to the value of £ 219, by fraud— G. BURCOTT, a Jew, age 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache black, speaks English well; dress, light tweed suit, dark tie with small pearl pin, black bowler hat. He took lodgings, represented that he was a travelling jeweller, and on various dates, between 26th January and 9th ult., obtained the jewellery, part of which he paid for by a worthless cheque. Warrant issued. i9.— GlastfOW ( City).— For embezzling £ 42 lis. 8d., between 10th December, 1906, and 18th ult.— WILLIAM MENZIES, age 45, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache reddish, eyes dark brown; dress, dark tweed jacket suit, dark overcoat, lace boots. A grocer; native of Stanley, Perthshire. He was employed as a traveller and collector. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE- 30.— Liverpool ( City).— Yor neglecting to notify his change of residence— Licence- holder MAURICE SHEEHAN, alias ROBERT COUGHLAN, Office No. 474- 06, age 28, height 5 ft. 9 § in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes hazel, 2 scars centre of forehead, 1 over left eyebrow, and on head over left ear, 2 moles and scar front of left forearm, 2 moles on outside of left arm. Sen- tenced at Cork County Assizes, 20th March, 1902, to 5, 5, and 3 years penal seritude ( concurrent) for sacrilege ( 2 cases) and wounding., Released on second license 14th February, 1907, which expires 14th May, 1907. Information to the Head Constable, Criminal Investigation Department, Liverpool. 31. — Liverpool ( City). — Licence- holder WILLAM JONES, Office No. 318- 07, Case No. 25, 8th inst., not now wanted. NORFOLK. 32.— Norwich ( City).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— BERT KAY, age 20, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., rather thick set, com- plexion fresh, hair ( rather long) light, clean shaved, large eyes and mouth slightly lame; dress, dark grey suit with white stripes, heavy dark overcoat, soft blue collar, dark green tie, dark cap with shiny peak. He has been travelling for a Photographic . Company. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Norwich. FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 1907. He is well known to most of the timber merchants in London, Liver- pool, Hull, & c. Was last seen on 5th inst. May endeavour to leave the country. Hij total defal- cations amount to £ 3,000. BERKSHIRE. 35 — Wokingham ( County).— For obtain- ing money by false pretences—- WILLIAM REEVES, alias WILLIAMS and KING, age about 46, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache dark brown, eyes blue or grey, scar back of right hand, mole on right cheek near chin, second left toe has been fractured; dress, usually jacket suit and leggings when cycling, sometimes wears overcoat and hard hat. He de- frauds small shopkeepers by obtaining payment in advance for potatoes, eggs, apples, rabbits, & c. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Goddard, Wokingham. YORKSHIRE ( West RhHng). 36.— Dewsbury ( County).— For obtaining £ 200 by false pretences, at Morley, 6th ult.— leigh, 18th October, 1906— WILLIAM HENRY WARR, age 44, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., square shoulders, complexion sallow, hair and eyes brown, pointed beard light brown, carries his head fer- ward, bad front teeth, appearance of a French- man; dress, black coat and vest, dark trousers, grey overcoat, black Alpine hat. A schoolmaster; native of Southampton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Woolston. APPREHENSION SOUGHT ( ctrdinuedy- NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. 38.— Kettering ( County).— For obtaining 15a., by false pretences, 25th ult.— CAN THOMAS ROBBERTS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, long thin face, hair and moustache brown, complexion pale; dress, fawn colour covert coot, dark trousers, light cap.
