Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if incident to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. iSn all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must dearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and injravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is ~ arge or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from ti § . to IOJ. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. . fiesry announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed bt? the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in farce at/ ainst him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 1TIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an ojH « tr of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged bt counties. B. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension » r recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to thi number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not latir than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. A blacksmith; native of Tottenham. On 21st ult. he reported here, stating he was going to Wokingham. Sentenced at Ludlow Borough Sessions, 7th January, 1904, to 9 months hard labour and 3 years supervision for larceny. Liberated on remission, 14th September, 1904. 1361. To be dealt with where found. He defrauds small shopkeepers by obtaining payment in ad- vance for potatoes, eggs, apples, rabbits, etc. W'arrant issued. Information to Supt. Goddard, Wokingham. May be found at a workhouse or tramping the country. Warrant issued. A groom. May be found at racing stables or race meetings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sutherland, Birkenhead. 9.- Crewe i nnnty).— For stealing, 14th inst., from a lodging house, 2 shirts and a singlet — HENRY SMITH, age about 47, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to sandy) brown, a few days' growth of beard and moustache, eyes blue, sharp pointed nose, walks badly; wearing black three- quarter length over- coat, white neckerchief with large red spots, faded, cap, button clogs, brass ring on left little finger. Appearance of a groom. Has worked with travelling roundabouts, well known in the Potteries. Previously convicted at Stone and Tun- stall. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Appearance of a mechanic. Stated he was employed by the G. P. O. to erect telegraph poles locally. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. R. Thyre " tattooed left forearm; dress, pepper and salt collar coat and vest, dark trousers and cap, white muffler, web belt with his name thereon. A blacksmith; native of Stonehouse, Devon. ESSEX. 11.— Brentwood ( County).— For stealing a light tweed reefer jacket; 1 pair green mixture trousers; 1 dark grey overcoat, gauntlet cuffs, dark lining, striped sleeve lining, cloth buttons — CHARLES PURVIS, age 36, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache ginger, eyes grey, tattooed both arms; wearing the stolen clothing. lie belongs to the Essex Militia. A marine engineer; native of Glasgow. Warrant issued. IS— Cardiff ( Citv).— For stealing £ 1 15s, 5th inst.— SIDNEY JONES, age 31, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, full face, high forehead, hair dark, heavy moustache light: dress, black overcoat, dark serge suit, dark tie, black Hard hat, brown kid gloves, carried a gold mounted um- brella with crook handle. A boot salesman ; native of Merthyr Tydfil. Warrant issued. 17.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing, 7th inst. a parcel containing clothing ( recovered)— ARTHUR COLES, age about 22, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, long thin face, small mous- tache ( cut short) reddish; dress, black jacket and vest, white cord trousers, red tie, white silk muffler, blue cap, lace boots, heavily nailed, leather belt with several military buttons " attached. Warrant issued. 1 6.- Cardiff ( City).- Yov falsification of accounts— ARTHUR ALLAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 5 in., rather stout build, complexion florid, hair black, slight eyebrows light, eyes ( small) . dark, addicted to drink; dress, blue over- coat, suit with light stripes, may be wearing a fancy vest, black bowler hat, lace boots. An egg merchant's manager or traveller; native of New Shildon, Yorkshire. Is fond of cricket and amateur theatricals. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. Fre- quents common lodging houses. A hawker; native of Cardiff. Sentenced at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 4th April, 1906, to 5 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for larceny. Mayes, Ringwood. 21.— Woolston { County). — For forcing a banker's cheque for the payment of £ 110 with intent to defraud— WILLIAM HENRY WARR, age 44, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., square shoulders, complexion sallow, hair brown, beard ( clipped, pointed) light brown, eyes brown, carries head forward when walking; dress, black coat and vest, dark trousers, grey overcoat, black Alpine hat. A native of Southampton. Appearance of a French- man. Absconded 25th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Woolston. 22 — Winchester ( City). — For stealing, 16th inst., from Tidworth Camp, a free- wheel " Centaur " bicycle, No. 81878, 26 in. frame, 28 in. wheels, enamelled black, gold lines, usual parts plated, transfer " Centaur " on head and seat tube, fiat handle bars, cork grips, white tips, rubber pedals, Palmer tyres, mud- guards to both wheels, 2 inverted lever brakes, Duplex back chain stays, Brooks' saddle; and a brown overcoat; black suit, white stripes; dark cap; and pair of thin boots— ARTHUR FULLER, alias HORACE WARD and J. JACQUES, age 25, height 5 ft. 4£ in., com- plexion fresh, hair and eyes brown; wearing the stolen clothing. Is a deserter from the 2nd Battn. Bedfordshire Regiment; supposed a native of King's Lynn. A native of Newton Longville, Bucks. Was accompanied bv a Woman, age about 20, short, complexion fresh; dress, navy blue dress ( jacket costume), with white around collar and cuffs, blue motor cap, brown boots. Warrant issued. KENT. 24.— Chatham ( County).— For failing to report— Licence- holder WALTER GRANVILLE, alias WILLIAMS and POULTON, Office No. 1888- 02, age 30, height 5 ft. 5| in., complexion fresh, hair ( going bald) dark brown, eyes blue, tiger and man's head left forearm, lost tip of third left linger. A ship's carpenter; native of Shilton. Sentenced at South London Sessions, 19th August, 1903, to 3 years penal servitude and remanet of a former sentence for stealing tools. A publican; native of Maidstone. Was accompanied by a Woman, age about 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., rather stout build, complexion fair, hair light, rather red face. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. LANARKSHIRE- 26.— Govan ( Burguj.— For failing to report — JOHN TURNER, alias TOUCHER, TOUCKER, and JAMES WILSON ( S. C. R. 1146/ 05), age 43, height 5 ft. 6i in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache black, eyes hazel, cut scars on left arm, back of right ring finger, below right elbow joint, top of head, above right ear, right ankle joint stiff, and walks lame; dress, dark green square cut jacket suit, light check cap, dark muffler, lace boots. A labourer; native of Glasgow. Convicted at Glasgow, 12th November, 1879; 24th October, 1881; and 26th September, 1882, of theft; 21st, August, 1883, of robbery; 20th October, 1884, of assault; 22nd December, 1885; 20tli August, 1891; and 28th December, 1898, of assault and robbery. A fitter; native of Birmingham. Sen- tenced at Warwick Assizes, 5th December, 1902, to 5 years penal servitude and remanet of a former sentence for housebreaking. SMITH, age about 48, height 5 ft. 10 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey), moustache and eyes brown; dress, dark serge suit, hard hat. Supposed a native of Cardiff. He solicited orders for photo- graphic enlargements on canvas, obtained deposits, and later the balance, but failed to deliver the enlargements. Warrant issued. NORFOLK. 31 .— Great Yarmouth ( Borough^.— For being concerned with another man ( in custody) in stealing, 24th ult., 12 lengths of iron guttering recovered)— Expiree CHARLES LINGARD, alias CHARLES THOMAS COUSLEY, Office No. 861- 00 ( see Case No. 26, 15th inst.), age 39, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes light hazel; dress, blue reefer jacket, blue vest, cord trousers, dark cap. A bricklayer; native of Great Yarmouth. Sentenced at Ipswich Assizes, 20th January, 1902, to 5 years penal servitude for larceny. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Great Yar* mouth. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 1.75, 1907. A labourer; native of Reading. Has been working on a farm, and may seek similar em- ployment. Sentenced at Berks Quarter Sessions, 4bh April, 1904, to 12 months hard labour for housebreaking. A painter; native of Nottingham. Sentenced at Nottingham City Sessions, 28th September, 1905, to 6 months hard labour and 1 year supervision for stealing gas fixtures from a dwelling house. 1508. Warrant issued. it— Nottingham ( City).— For failing to report— Supervisee ALBERT WARD, alias FOX, WOOD, and MEAKIE, Office No. 1525- 02, age 27, height 5 ft. 2£ in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes blue, scar right side of forehead, mole back of neck. A laca hand; native of Nottingham. Sentenced at Nottingham City Sessions, 29th Sep- tember, 1904, to 9 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for burglary.
