( No. 183560.) D. STEVENS or DAVIES, & c., The Laurels, West Drayton, Middlesex.— Dealer in birds, which he advertises for sale, but fails to supply for some time. STRAMONIUM CIGARETTES ; CEMENT AND MARKING INK FRAUD.— The swindlers call upon shopkeepers and induce them to become agents for the sale of Stramonium, Bronchial, and other cigarettes, marking' inks and cement. — POLICE GAZETTE, 2nd May, 1902. ( No. 85057.) TANQUEREY, A., Paris.— Free portrait swindle, Writes prominent persons— and others— asking them to send their photograph, and promising to make an enlargement free. Before sending the picture he demands money for, either ( a) cost of a suitable frame, or ( h) cost of pack- ing case and transit. In either case the sum asked is exorbitant, and more than covers the whole cost of production. Unless the money is sent, photograph is neither returned nor promise fulfilled.— POLICE GAZETTE, 21st September, 1900. ( No. 74139.) J. TYLOR, 10 Alma Road, London, N., J. NOBEL, 34 Stamford Road, NATHAN & CO., The North London Skirt Co., The Skirt Stores, and The Fashion Skirt Stores, & c., & c.— Very artfully worded advertisements are inserted under these and other names inviting that money be sent for either a waist- belt, pair of slippers, or hand bag, and promising to present, under certain conditions, either a skirt or pair of boots, & c., to purchasers of the belt, & c. If the advertisements be carefully read it will be seen that the " generous offer " mentioned is only to be fulfilled after a certain number of the belts, & c., have been sold by the person applying for the " free gift." Warrant issued. For non- payment of maintenance arrears— FREDERICK HUSSEY, age 38, height 5 ft. 8? in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, sailor, flag, < fcc., right forearm. A native of Wokingham. Has served in the Army, now belongs to the 3rd Berkshire Regiment, from which he is a deserter. Supposed tramping the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A tramp. Had in his posses- sion a new pigskin purse, and a bundle tied in a red handkerchief. He disposed of some of the pouches and purses at Llanfyndd. Supposed comedians, they obtain a liveli- hood by singing and clog dancing at public houses. Well known at Pontypridd, Newport, and Bristol. Warrant issued. M. S. Cressy" on cap ribbon, mar now be wearing a blue serge suit, white muffler, cap. A native of Northampton. He boasts of having an income of £ 600 a year. Escaped from custody 29th ult. KENT. lb. — Canterbury ( City).— For deserting his wife and family, 18th ult., leaving them charge- able to the Canterbury Union- JOSEPH PASS, age 48, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair ( curly, bald on top) aubyrn, addicted to drink ; dress, dark grey jacket, black vest, blue and white muffler, fawn colour cap, heavy lace booth. A bricklayer, may be found on public works. Warrant issued. A reward of £ 1 will be paid by the Guardians of the Canterbury Union for the arrest of Pass. Information to the Chief Constable, Canterbury. 16. - Ramsqate ( Borough).- PW stealirg £ 2 from his lodgings, 27th ult.— REGINALD THORPE, age 15 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion fresh, blinks, horse shoe and ship tattooed back of left hand; wearing old clothing and brown shoes. About a month ago he was charged at Canterbury with stealing a pair of opera glasses, when he was handed over to the Police Court Missionary, and sent to Ramsgate for the purpose of going to sea. Absconded 27th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANCASHIRE. 17.— Bury ( Oountv).— For obtaining money by false pretences— J. HUGHES, alias SAMUEL CAMPBELL, age 36, height 5 ft. 1\ in., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, abscess mark left cheek, scar left side of head and left forearm, of good address and smart appearance. A native of Banbridge. Sentenced, 3rd January. 1906, at Wigan, to 3 mouths imprisonment for a similar offence. He represented that he was agent for a Directory. Photograph can be seen on application. May endeavour to leave the country. 21 . — Liverpool ( City).— For stealing a quantity of clothing from lodgings, 27th ult,— — CARTER, age about 53, height 5 ft. 4 in., thin features, high forehead, pock- marked, hair ( bald on top) light, moustache sandy; wearing dark grey overcoat and suit, hard hat. He took lodgings, 24th ult., stating he came from Macclesfield, and that his luggage would arrive later. Absconded 27th ult. with clothing, which he pledged. Is well known in Berks, Bucks, and Surrey, and has been convicted of similar offences at Slough, Maidenhead, Newbury, Read- ing, Woking, and at the Central Criminal Court, & c. Warrant issued. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 2- 1. — Middlesbrough ( Borough). — For stealing, 29th ult., a 15 or 18 ct. necklet, links roughly cut, nearly round, medium size, about 18 in. long, fastens wih spring catch; 1 15 or 18 ct. locket, heart shape, plain, gentleman's photograph, and '' To my dear wife, July, 1901," inside, at- tached; 1 thin gold necklet, small long links, plain, fastens with engraved spring catch, round gold pendant, engraved one side, lock of hair covered by cracked glass, other side, at- tached ; 1 lady's 15 ct. watch chain, 3 strands, 2 outside strands round links, centre one is twisted, gold acorn and seal with monogram, " VC" thereon, attached; 1 silver English lever watch, garter and shield at back ( out of repair); 1 rolled gold safety pin— A MAN, age 20 to 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 8 in., well built; wearing dark overcoat and cap, red wrapper. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 25.— Keighley ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences ( confidence trick)— TWO MEN ( 1st, age 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved; dress, grey overcoat, spotted vest, dark trousers, felt hat, j brown boots. 2nd, age 36, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown; dress, dark overcoat and trousers, dark muffler, felt hat. Tebbutt, Court House, Keighley. 26.— York ( City).— For stealing from their lodgings, 27th ult., a gold brooch ( recovered); 1 lady's gold dress ring, set brilliant in centre, sur- rounded 5 green stones ( 1 missing); 1 gold cross pendant, engraved; 1 gold colour metal ring, set brilliants— JOHN TAYLOR, age 20, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair light; dress, blue serge suit, Alpine hat, sometimes wears cap or felt hat.— ROBERT COOK, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, hair brown, clean shaved, red face; dress, blue jacket, fancy spotted vest, trimmed broad braid, dark mixture trousers, light check cap, wearing leather watch guard. He pledged the brooch in name of Robert Watson. Roth speak North Country dialect, and stated they came from Manchester, and were employed locally b" the Imperial Bioscope Company. Warrant issued. CHESHIRE. 27. — Craws ( County).— Remanded till 7th inst., charged with fradulently obtaining alms by a begging" letter— MARY SHEPHARD, alias O'BRIEN, age 64, height 4 ft. 11 in., stoops, complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes blue; wearing black three- quarter length jacket, black skirt, and sailor hat. A tramp. Stated that her husband had just come out of an asylum, and they had 3 children, and were anxious to obtain their railway fare to their relatives at Wem and Manchester. A large quantity of lady's underlinen was found in her possession ( supposed stolen). Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. ' on back, gold safety pin, turquoise each end, attached; 1 18 ct. curb chain bracelet, heart shape padlock fastening, gold whistle and small mouse trap ( door missing), at- tached ; 1 gold curb bracelet; 1 lady's gold ring, set turquoise, surrounded with diamonds; 1 do., turquoise in centre, diamond each side; 1 gold curb bracelet, studded with turquoise; 1 do. bracelet, gold ball attached, studded with turquoise; 1 diamond and pearl necklace; 1 tur- quoise and pearl brooch; 1 pearl pendant with miniature; 1 dragon fly brooch ( diamonds and tur- quoise); 1 gold brooch, snake pattern; 1 18 ct. sleeve link; 1 lady's small gold ring, set 2 diamonds and 2 emeralds alternately; 1 gold chain purse, patent snap fastening, " F.
