R B XJ Ail communications lor insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- tatiom relating to them, should be addressed to THB EDITOR OF THE POLICE QAIITTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue oj the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to bi taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if lujficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person riiponsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must b* dearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait tnd of 5s per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 61. to IOJ. .4 remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost tf engraving sketches. J » ery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if Ike name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force aoainsf him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the east may be. kT IONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an offictt of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter 12. All payments must be in advance, eith er at the office. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detection of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which some- times occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regula- tions in force in the Metropolis :— 1 . Printed hand- bill*, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery ol property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commis- sioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points :— ( a) The amount of the reward. ( 4) The conditions on which it is payable. (<•) The name anil address of the person by whom it will be paid. (< f) The name and address of the printer must appear thereon. 2.— No expression must be used in such an advertisement in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. Attention is particularlydirected to the conditions ( a) to ( d), clause 1, as Police Notices are constantly being received by the Metropolitan Police in which the conditions mentioned have not been complied with, especially those marked ( a) and ( c). Such notices are not distributed. NOTE.— There are 191 Stations of the Metro- politan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. Stated he was district manager to the Cambridge and Bedford Photographic Company, and had printed receipts with " Head office: Ivor Dale, River Side, Cambridge," and " Branch office: 22, Castle Lane, Bedford." He canvassed orders for photographs, obtained payment for same, but failed to forward the portraits. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Panter, Luton. She arrived from London, 27th ult., and took lodgings, which she clandestinely left on 4th inst.; left behind a small red purse, containing a pawnticket, No. 3155, 18th Septem- ber, 1906, relating to handkerchiefs, pledged with P. and F. CHESHIRE- 8.— Crewe ( County).— For stealing from lodgings, at Haslington, 9th inst., 2 suits ( re- covered) : 2 flannelette chemises ( 1 repaired under arms)— MARY BATES, alias HEYWOOD, age 48 to 50, height 5 ft, 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes pale blue, wears glasses, 3rd and 4th left fingers deformed, usually covers hand with handkerchief; dress, long black jacket , trimmed on shoulders with silk braid, black hat, trimmed osprey, black skirt, blue or pink bodice with white spots, new shoes, flat and wide pattern, large brown fur, fastens with cords, long gold neck chain, fastened with gold brooch, containing photograph of a man, age about 20. ( Is identical with Woman, Case No. 5, 25th May last.) Is also wanted at Liscard, Southport, Altrincham, and Liverpool. She pledged at Crewe a white flannel petticoat, embroidered with feather stitches: 1 grey tweed unlined skirt; 1 calico chemise, no doubt stolen propertv. May seek em- ployment at laundries, and will probably call at Salvation Army Barracks. Warrant issued. 9.— Crewe ( C un'y).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 8th inst.— WIL- LIAM GRIFFITHS, age about 37, height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion pale, rather long neck and features, high forehead, hair ( short at back) dark brown, bare patch size of a 5s. piece left side of crown, moustache dark and scraggy, rather long and thin at ends, one front upper tooth only, walks rather on his toes: dress, grey plaid square cut jacket, double breasted vest, brown mixture trousers, low shoes, navy blue peak cap. Warrant issued. 10. — Crewe ( County). — For stealing £ 7, 13th inst.— ISAAC GINSBERG, alias MORRIS GINSBERG and MORRIS, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair ( wavy in front) black, sometimes wears a small dark mous- tache, eyes ( large) dark brown, eyebrows black, rather prominent nose with dark" blue scar on bridge, left side, and long neck, of Jewish and smart appearance; dress, dark brown suit, green sailor knot tie, rather heavy lace boots. ESSEX. 11.— Grays ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, llth inst., a silver Geneva watch, No. 8700, open face, maker, Bennett, dent in outer case, broad arrow and " 1.04 G" scratched inside of one case; 1 white metal chain, curb pattern, swivel at each end, attached— GEORGE ALEX- ANDER BUTLER, age about 19, height 5 ft. 8 to 10 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bushy in front) light, clean shaved, eyes supposed light blue, front upper teeth missing; dress, old brown tweed jacket suit, dark tweed peak cap turned up all round, lace boots. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 12.— Northleaoh ( County). — For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences — WIL- LIAM TAYLOR ( supposed false), age about 26, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, teeth rather prominent, long scar left side of head, 2 blue rings with red dots inside tat- tooed right wrist; dress, fawn colour mackintosh, " rev check square cut coat and trousers, dark fancy vest with red soots, green shirt, grey motor cap. Represented that he was an advance agent for a menagerie. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Nortlileaeh. 17 — Gravesend ( Borough).— For non- payment of maintenance arrears and costs to the amount of £ 11 5s. 6d.— EDWIN HARRIS, age 35, height 6 ft., awkward build, heavy moustache dark, addicted to cigarette smoking.' Has served m the 2nd Life Guards. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend. LANCASHIRE. l'S— Liverpool ( City\— For stealing, a book 28th ult.— ADOLPHUS ROSS, alias MORRIS, JOHNSON, MURDOCK, EDWARDS, and SCOTT, Office No. 2610- 97, age 55, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) grey, drooping moustache, eyes blue, scar on right cheek, prominent nose ( inclines to left side); dress, light grev suit, light cap. An attendant; native of Edinburgh. ( See ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR, NO. 82, Figure 10.) 19— Liverpool ( City).— Fir attempting to obtain charitable contributions by fraud, 30th ult. G. H. TAYLOR, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 6 in., prominent features, hair and moustache iron grey; dress, dark clothes and cap. He writes to people whom he claims to have known some years pre- viously, stating he has been abroad and has had an attack of pleurisy, that it is essential for him to go abroad again, and has been offered a- berth on a steamer sailing from Glasgow, but is unable to pay his railway fare, asks for a few shillings, and usually encloses a telegraph money order for reply. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 20.— Vanchester ( City).— For failing to report— Licence- holder ALFRED HAYES, alias BEEDMAN, Office No. 1784- 05 ( ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR No. 80, Figure 21), age 47, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion fresh, hair ( going bald on top) brown, eyes blue, faint tattoo mark back of left hand, of Jewish Extraction ; dress, dark brown suit, pot hat. A plasterer; native of London. Sen- tenced at Central Criminal Court, 16th December, 1901, to 5 years penal servitude for burglary. Licenced 25th October, 1905. b 670. Warrant issued. NORFOLK. height 5 ft. 5| in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar on forehead and bridge of nose; dress, old dark jacket and vest, striped trousers and cap. A labourer; native of Altrinc- ham. He was discharged at Stockton- on- Tees Borough Petty Sessions, 20th ult., charged with the unlawful possession of the watch referred to above, as at that time no owner could be found for it. Had with him a parcel containing a blue suit. Supposed a native of Staffordshire. He seeks employment with fish, poultry and game dealers, and has been employed at Blackpool, Leeds, Bradford, and elsewhere. Stated he was an ex- professional football player. Warrant issued. Is a Private, No. 40067, of the Royal Horse Artillery at St. John's Wood Barracks.— THOMAS BERRY, age 22, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes grevk, " Anglo- Boer War, St. Louis, Exhibition, U. S. A.," Faith, Hope, and Charity" left forearm, bust of female and a bee right forearm, in red and blue ink; dress, blue serge suit, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Both natives of Yarmouth. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. DENBIGHSHIRE. 27.— Llanrwst ( County).— Sentenced to 2 months imprisonment for larceny — ALFRED COLLIER, age 31, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, full face, hair light brown, 2 scars over each eye, 1 on right cheek, butterfly, boar's head, ship, anchor, flag, cross flags, and " ASX " right forearm and wrist, flower vase and flower, figure of woman, " X" and " WD" left forearm and wrist, right leg deformed, bullet wound theifsin. A tramping labourer; states he is a native of Gates- head. Recently convicted of larceny at Mold, Flintshire. Supposed wanted elsewhere. Information to Supt. Woollam, I. lanwrst. DEVONSHIRE. 2$.— Exeter ( City).— Remanded till 22nd inst. on several charges of larceny — THOMAS WARD SPRAY, age about 32, height 5 ft. 4J in., complexion pale, hair and moustache light brown, scar right forearm, back of head, on chest, slight scar right side neck; dress, grey suit and cap. A native of Exeter. States that prior to 1897 he was employed as a barman in different parts of London, joined the Northumberland Fusiliers on 20th August, 1897, and was discharged at Bloemfon- tein on 22nd June, 1905, when he returned to London. Supposed previouslv convicted, and wanted elsewhere. Information to the Chief Constable, Court House, Exeter. KENT. 29.— Gravesend ( Borough). — Remanded till 24th inst., charged with stealing a gold watch and locket— WILLIAM BROWN, age 40, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fr; sh, hair dark brown, eyes grey. A labourer : apparently tramping the country. Found in his possession a J- plate English lever gold watch, No. 2296, open face, Griffith, Mile End Road," on dial and plate, ' I. J. ISLE OF WIGHT. 14.— Newport ( CountyV— For obtaining .£ 1 os., by false pretences, at Wroxall, 23rd ult.—- BENJAMIN OWENS, age 48, height 5 ft. 10i in., complexion and eyes dark, hair dark brown, suffers from rheumatism. A china mender. Had in his possession a pedlar's certificate granted at Newport, 22nd August last. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Newport. NOR THAMPTONSHIRE. 2 '. - Northampton ( Borough).— For st- al ing from his lodgings, 28th ult., a pair of grey mixture trousers, lined leather around bottom of legs; 1 pink, green and white Oxford shirt; 1 pair gold- plated cuff links; and a Post Office Savings Bank book, No. 46466, showing deposit of £ 3 10s. HARRY NOBELL, age 26, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, complexion fmsh, full face, hair brown, clean shaved, prominent teeth, of smart ap- pearance ; dress, black jacket and vest, grey trousers, brown boots. Was carrying a brown leather bag, about 18 in. long, double handles, initials " H. M." thereon. Stated he was a travel- ler for a firm of sauce manufacturers. He called at a sub post office and withdrew £ 1 on the account referred to above. A labourer; native of Bos- combe. He has a long list of convictions against LONDON. grev tweed overcoat, black hard felt hat. Had with him a brown leather Gladstone bag and a brown leather dress case. A bank cashier, late of Holland Road, Shepherd's Bush. Absconded 4th inst., on which dato he changed the whole of the notes for gold. The portrait in which he is shewn wearing a hat was taken 3 years ago. Warrant issued. Information to Supt.
