LT X O Xff m . 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officet of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear u number, and as far us practicable they are alphabetically arranged bt counties. 9. The force which causes purticulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the papei only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. He was employed as wireman by an Electric Supply Company, and during the tem- porary absence of a servant at a house where he had been sent, committed the larceny. Warrant issued. ( Is identical with Woman, Case No. 5, 25th May last.) Is also wanted at Liscard, Southport, Altrincham, and Liverpool. She pledged at Crewe a white flannel petticoat, embroidered with feather stitches; 1 grey tweed unlined skirt; 1 calico chemise, no doubt stolen property. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. DENBIGHSHIRE. 13. — Llanrwst ( County). — For obtaining £ 13 by false pretences, 8th and 12th ult.— HERBERT PAYNE DRINKWATER, age 26, height 6 ft, 1 in., muscular build, inclined to be corpulent, complexion fresh, round face, hair light, eyes blue, clean shaved, walks quickly, small lump on left lower eyelid, sometimes wears gold pince- nez; dress, grey jacket suit, black hard felt hat. A mining engineer. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Woollam, Llanrwst. DERBYSHIRE. 14. — Chesterfield ( Borough). — For ob- taining food and lodgings by false pretences, be- tween 25th and 29th ult., aiid for stealing, 28th ult,, a silver Boston lever waU'h, No. 53363, white dial, black fingers, dent in case near ring, long silver guard, small link pattern, attached— ERNEST RODGERS, age 27 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion and hair dark, thin face, several front, teeth missing, tattoo marks right forearm ; dress, dark check jacket and vest, dark trousers, red. white and black check tie, cap, turned up at sides and back, old brown boots. Stated he was a boiler rivetter, and had obtained work at a local foundry. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chester- field. DEVONSHIRE. 15. — Exeter ( City). — For deseriing his children, leaving them chargeable to the Exeter Union— EDWARD JOHN CRIDLAND, alias CLARKE, COLLINS, kc., age about 44, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and mous- tache brown, rather weak eyes. A plasterer; native of Exeter. Is a member of the Plasterer's Society. Since 1901 he has been employed in London. Warrant issued. A reward of £ 1 will be paad by the Poor Law Authorities, Exeter, for the arrest of Cridland. Information to the Chief Constable, Exeter. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 16 — Dumfries ( Burgh).— For assault and larceny, 2nd inst.— JOHN FERGUSON, alias EDWARD McCALLUM, JOHN McCALLUM, JOHN STEWART ( Scottish Register and Photo- graph No. 772- 02), age 25, complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, bust of female outside left forearm, figure of fema'le right forearm, heart, anchor, and cross outside fore- ahn, scar point of chin, oblong scar front right leg, below knee; dress, blue jacket and trousers, reddish colour vest with brass buttons, wearing goloshes. A tramp tailor; native of Kilmarnock. May be found in company of showmen. Sentenced at Glasgow, 6th January, 1897, to 4 yearsTt. S.; 7- th April, 1902, to 6 months; 4th February, 1904, at Haddington, to 9 months, for larceny; and 8th December, 1902, to 9 months for attempted larceny. Warrant issued. Laver, Epping. 18. — Saffron Wallien ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 3rd inst,, 3 suits ( 1 navy worsted serge; 1 grey worsted; 1 dark grey check cashmere, all size 4)— A WOMAN, age 20 to 22, height about 5 ft. 3 in., complexion very pale; dress, three- quarter length grey jacket, pink blouse with floral design, black skirt, black sailor hat. ( Supposed identical with Woman, Case No. 11, 3rd August last.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hailstone, Saffron Walden. GLAMORGA NSHIRE . 19.— Cardilf ( City).— For embezzlement— GEORGE MATTHEWS, age 48, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion sallow, small straight nose, hair ( turning grey, bald on top) brown, slight moustache dark, eyes hazel, slightly knock- kneed, turns feet outwards, speaks with slight foreign accent, is said to be able to speak French and Roumanian, talkative and boastful; dress, dark flannel jacket suit with white pin stripes, small bow tie, gold pin set carbuncle, black hard felt hat, gold colour double watch chain, fetter and short link pattern, tan colour boots. Stated he was a native of Jersey. He was Secretary to a Friendly Society, and is believed to have in his possession a number of valuable securities, which he may dispose of. Absconded 25th ult. A sailmaker; native of Bristol. Sentenced at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 4th April, 1906, to 6 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for larceny. 1222. To be dealt with where found. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Aldershot ( County\ — For stealing £ 7 14s. 7d., 8th inst.— ARTHUR HENRY APPLETON, age 21, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes grey, burn marks left forearm and wrist, 2 small scars top of left shoulder blade, and over left buttock; dress, dark tweed suit, light striped tweed overcoat, large light plaid motor cap, red tie, lace boots. Is a deserter from the lst North Staffordshire Regiment. Had with him a " Revolution " bicycle. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 22.— Bournemouth — For steal- ing £ 12, 12th July last— LEONARD WIL- LIAMS, age 24, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair, moustache, thick eyebrows, and eyes ( sunken) dark, thick lips, of consumptive appearance, abscess marks right side of neck. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. 23 — Gosport ( County\— For obtaining money, food, and lodgings by false pretences, be- tween 13th and 20th ult.— EDWARD GRIF- FITHS, age 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., com- ilexion fresh, hair, moustache, and full beard verv dark, plausible manner, of smart appearance; dress, frock coat, double- breasted fancy vest, grey trousers with dark stripes, small light striped tie, silk hat. A native of Tunbridge Wells. May assume the name of Graham. Stated he was an auctioneer, and Estate Agent, stayed at a good class inn, in payment of account, gave a cheque for more than the amount, and obtained the balance, on the cheque being tendered at the bank, it was found he had 110 account. KENT. 27.— Folkestone ( Borough).— For desert- ing his wife and 2 children, leaving them charge- able to the Common Fund of the Elham Union— CHARLES HENRY ERREY, age 36, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and mous- tache brown, eyes ( rather weak) blue. A plumber or Insurance Agent. Warrant issued. B." engraved thereon; 1 silver curb chain with silver medal, engraved " F. B.," and silver match box, chased, engraved " F. B.," attached; 1 American gold curb chain with silver sovereign case, chased and engraved " F. B." attached; 1 fancy vest, light blue with white flower— CARL BECKER, age 22, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion, hair, and slight moustache light: dress, blue rough serge suit, dark tie, light cap, button boots. LANCASHIRE. 29 — Hurst ( County— For embezzling monies of the Oldham Equitable Co- Operative Society, Limited— JOHN SLATER, age 27 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, flat feet, turns feet outwards, of lively disposition; dress, dark tweed or similar clothing, round felt hat. A grocer's assistant. May seek employment at Co- Operative or other large grocery establishments. Warrant issued. Had with him a pair of gold- rimmed spectacles. Previously con- victed at" South Shields, Durham, Jedbergh, North Shields, Blyth, Newcastle, Marvoort, and Bury. Sometimes represents himself as being connected with the Associated Press in America, or the American Press in London. ( See Case No. 28, 31st August, 1906.) Warrant issued. A waiter; supposed a native of I » ndon. Sentenced at Maidstone Quarter Sessions, 30th June, 1904, to 3 years penal servitude for obtaining money by false pretences. Licenced 4th inst. e 283. To be dealt with where found. Information to the Chief Constable, Norwich. NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. native of Bexley Heath. He took possession of a furnished house by false references, obtained gooc's from local tradesmen to a large amount, which he disposed of. Is accompanied by A WOMAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fair, slight build; A BOY, age 6 to 7 years; A GIRL, age 3 to 4 years; and A GIRL, age 12 months. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brooman, Hayward's Heath. and pawns same, if questioned by the pawn broker lie produces a stamped receipt for the article. He took lodgiugs, after which he proceeded to a clothier's shop and requested that the above described coats should be sent to his address at one o'clock, when he would fit them on and pay for the one selected. The shop assistant took the coats at the appointed time, where he met the thief who pretended that he could not trv on the coats just then, but asked the assistant to leave the coats and call again at 4 o'clock. This the assistant did, but on calling at the house at the time arranged was informed that the thief had left and taken the pared containing the 2 coats with him.
