All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOH OF THE POLICE GAIETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. •. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. R. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if lufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. in all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. i. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait and of 6j. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge u- ill range from 61. to IOJ. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance 1or cost of engraving sketches. C. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. LT xows. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed, by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Sew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot !> e guaranteed. Cities and Boroughs therein, arranged in alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond the number at present supplied will be forwarded on application in the form set forth in circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It is particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. SPECIAL NOTICE. ATTENTION has been called to instances in which men at one time in the Metropolitan Police Force have set up Private Detective Agencies, and have asked for information from other Forces, upon the ground that they are Ex Metropolitan Police Officers. The Commissioner thinks it necessary to intimate for the informa- tion of other Police Forces, that he has no know- ledge of these persons, and that application for assistance made by them should be dealt with accordingly. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT SPECIAL NOTICE. The amount of stolen property at present" circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Informationsand Pawnbrokers' Lists of all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion " of the particulars they contain is not desired. The same course will be followed with respect to property lo6t and persons missing. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1 Criminal Investigation De- partment. — For embezzlem- nt — BAKRY IIEATLIE, age about 30, height 6 ft. 2 in., well built, complexion sallow, high cheek bones, square chin, hair dark, eyes grey. A native of Cape Colony. A good athlete and football player, is well known to English Rugby football players, who visited South Africa. Provisional warrant issued. 2— G Division.— For malicious wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm— FRED JONES, age about 28. height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., com- plexion very dark, hair and slight moustache black, eyes dark brown, appearance of an Italian ; dress, dark jacket suit, cap and mutller, supposed wearing an overcoat. A native of London. M, be found working in hoplields. 3.— O Division.— For obtaining £ 2 6s. by false pretences— G. WEST ( supposed aa Irish- man), age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com plcxion fresh, full face, hair and slight moustache dark; dress, dark coat and vest, grey trousers, dark tic, cap. Ho calls on tradesmen, represents that he is an agent for the Mercantile Directory, and Expert Guide, Provincial and other guides. Warrant issued. 4.—£" Division.— For obtaining £ 10 by false prctences, 10th May last— WALTER WYATT ,111 ON SON, age 30, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair brown, clean shaved, small mouth, of smart abearance; dress, blue serge suit, straw hat. A native of Sydney. Warrant issued. 5 — N Division.— For stealing, 20th inst., £ 28 gold, and attempting to shoot— Licence- holder WALTER RAYMOND, alias GROVES and BENDER, Office No. 1352- 02, age 31, height ft. 8} in., complexion fair, hair light brown. eyes ( weak, slight cast left) blue, cut scar inner corner left eyebrow, sometimes wears spectacles; dress, dark plaid suit, black bowler hat, black button boots. A waiter; native of Mitcham, Surrey. Sentenced at Kingston Quarter Sessions, 5th April, 1904, to 3 years penal servitude for housebreaking. A.'' road racer, diamond frame, North Road handle bars, Gripper brake front wheel, 28 in. wheels ( front plated, back enamelled), 91 in. gear, i in. pitch chain, enamelled black— ARTHUR HUMPHRIES, Office No. S 28109, age 26, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes grey; dress, blue serge suit and cap, white muffler, brown boots. A native of Lewisham. Warrant issued. T Division.— For procuration, lst Jnly last— HENRI BOULANGER, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 10 in., square shoulders, complexion sallow, long face, hair ( slightly bald) and mous- tache ( turned up at ends) light, eyes blue, prominent nose: dress, dark lounge suit with black stripes, straw hat. A French chef, speaks English fluently. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BEDFORDSHIRE. Biggleswade ( County .— For steal- ing. 4th inst., at Sandy, a waist band, bnckle at back ; 1 white silk blouse ; 1 pair black open work stockings; and 17s.— HETTY MORGAN, age 21, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue; wearing holland skirt, round straw hat with rosette, may have a grey jacket and cape. she was canvassing for a London Tea Company. Warrant issued. 9.— Biggleswade < County\— For steal- ing, 6th insc. £ 1 10.-.— ALBERT MARSH, age 17, height about 5 ft. 2 in., complexion sallow, sharp features, hair dark, eyes brown, tattooing both forearms; dress, black jacket suit, cap, brown boots. BUCKINGHA MS HIRE. 10. — Fenny Stratford ( County). — For obtaining food and lodging by false pretences at Newport Pagnell, 13th inst.— HARRY BIRCH, age 22 to 24, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, narrow features, large Roman nose, hair brown, slight moustache, Yorkshire accent, one of left upper front teeth black; dress, black jacket suit, red striped tie, grey cap, button boots. DERBYSHIRE. 12.— Derby ( Borough).— For failing to report — Supervisee JOHN CHESTER, alias FURNI- VAL and BOOTH, Office No. 840- 02, age 60, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue, scar on nose, blue scar outer and scar over left eyebrow, mole left of neck. A clerk; native of Nottingham. Sentenced at Nottingham County Assizes, 28th November, 1905, to 3 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for larceny. 2373. To be dealt with where found. Clincher tyres, back tyre much worn, slightly upturned handle bars, pull up lever front rim brake, Eidie's back pedalling brake, black enamelled frame, leather gear case, dress guard black, new plated pump, odd plated toe clips, transfer on head and frame " Spinaway"— A WOMAN, who gave the name of HARGRAYES, age about 20, complexion fair, hair light; dress, light dress, supposed wearing white tam- o'- shanter. Hailstone, Saffron Walden. 15.— Southend- on'Sea C'ounty) — For embezzling £ 8 16s. 4d.— FREDERICK LAW- RENCE, age 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, complexion fresh, thin face, hair brown, eyes hazel, carries his head forward, takes short quick steps; dress, dark mixture jacket suit, hard felt hat, lace boots. A tram conductor; native of Southend. May seek employment as a. milk carrier. Warrant issued. Southend- on- Sea ( County).— For stealing£ 8— ERNEST CARMAN, alias PARKER, age 19, height 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion fresh, thin face, hair dark brown, eyes grey ; dress, dark green check jacket suit, maker " Marks, Southend- on- Sea," on tab, light check tweed cap, size brown lace boots. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 17.— Dursley ( County).— For leaving his wife and child chargeable to the Dursley Union — THOMAS ALBERT HARRISON, age 31, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, boy and " In Memory of my brother Frank " tattooed left forearm, anchor on thumb ; dress, navy blue jacket suit, dark grey overcoat, black cap. A native of St. Sidwells, Devonshire. May assume the name of Perrin and be found working at docks. He was accompanied by A WOMAN age about 26. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Perkins, Dursley. 18.— Bristol ( City).— For obtaining money by false pretences — J. CONNOR, alias F. O'CONNOR and J. W. DUNN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slightly ronnd shoulders, complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaved, rather large front teeth, talkative, speaks with Scotch or Irish accent; dress, dark grey lounge suit, may be wearing black morning coat, black bowler hat. He calls on small shopkeepers and others, and induces them to insure their lives, furniture or goods in the Royal or San In- surance Companies, obtains a small premium, and promises to forward the policy in a few days. H., 1906"; 2 briar pipes; 1 razor, " Suffolk Jim."; 1 gold tie pin, set 3 opals and small brilliants ; 1 silver watch, monogram " R. H." on case.— FRANK AUGUSTUS DAVIS, age 19, height 5 ft. 8* in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scars right arm, left knee, back of head and neck ; a native of Stoke Newington. N.— EDWARD HARRY BUTCHER SMYTHE, age 24, height 5 ft. 4^ in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eyes blue, scars on forehead, right eyebrow and on nose, heart and " E " left forearm, They are deserters from the 1st Border Regiment. James, Alton. 20.— Kingsclere [ County).— For unlawful and malicious wounding at East Woodhay, 17th inst.— WILLIAM AYRES, age about 35," height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, slight moustache dark, eyes dark; dress, grey jacket, dark cord trousers, light cap, unlined. A gipsy; native of Oxfordshire. Travels the country with a hand truck, painted blue, axle bar broken, and spliced with wood and wire. He was accom- panied by his Wife and 3 Children.— JAMES AYRES ( Brother of above), age about 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark, hair ( curly in front) dark brown, eyes dark; dress, dark clothes and cap, military pattern boots. A gipsy; native of Oxfordshire. Is believed to have recently served in the Oxfordshire Militia. Travels the country with a coster's barrow, body painted dark green, red wheels, drawn by a black pony, long tail. He was accompanied by his Wife and 2 Children. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Littlewood, Kingsclere. 21.— Woolston ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Eastleigb, 14th inst., a watch and chain ( recovered)— FRED HARDING ( supposed false), age about 22, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion sunburnt, hair and slight moustache dark brown, prominent nose ; dress, dark suit with small white stripes, red tit1, dark motor cap, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Woolston. 22.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For larceny ( lodgings)— A MAN, age about 43, height about 5 ft. 2 in. complexion fresh, hair and moustache ginger; wearing vest, brown tweed trousers, Oxford shirt with collar attached, yachting cap, military boots. He represented that he was a mechanic. A marine fireman ; native of Liverpool. Sentenced at Southampton Borough Sessions, 16th Octooer, 1902, to 3 years penal servitude and remanet of a former sentence for highway robbery. HER TFORDSHIRE. 24. — Watford ( County). — For stealing ( bailee), 23rd inst., 10i.— JAMES RICHARD MUN& LOW, age 23, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com- plexion fair, hair light, eyes grey, woman, <& c., tattooed both arms ; dress, dark tweed jacket and vest, dark tweed or Hannel trousers with white stripes, dark cap with large peak, white shoes blacked over. May be found travelling with a piano organ, " Rossi & Spinelli " thereon. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Reed, Watford. KENT. 25. — Sevenoaks ( County). — ROGER BARHAM, Case No. 35, 20th May, 1904. Warrant withdrawn. 26.— Dover ( Borough).— For obtaining, by trick, 18th inst., a lady's gold watch ( recovered); also for stealing 2 gold wedding rings ( 1 recovered) — A WOMAN, age about 24, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion dark, high cheek bones; dress, black satin blouse, black skirt, black hat, may be wearing brown leather wristlet for watch. She was seen in company of A MAN, age about 24, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fair, slight moustache light; dress, greyish suit, white straw hat with narrow rim. She called at shops where watches were hanging in the windows ( having been taken in for repairs and had the owner's name on a piece of paper attached, which could be seen from the street), and said she had called for a watch, which was " iven her on navment of the amount for repairs. At one shop she asked to see some weddin~ rings, but did not make a purchase. After she had left two rings were missed. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Knott, Dover. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes, 27th July, 1903, to 3 vear9 penal servitude for assault with intent to rob. Released on second licence, 15th inst.. which expires 19th October, 1906. a d 61. To be dealt with where found. 28.— Liverpool ( City).— For obtaining £ 10 by a worthless cheque— A MAN, who gave the name of JACK G. SCOTT, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 10 in., stout build, hair brown, clean shaved, prominent nose, American accent; dress, dark blue jacket suit, wore large diamond ring. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 29.— Manchester ( City).— For failing to report— Licence- holder JOHN TAYLOR, alias SAMUEL MANUEL and WHITE, Office No. 2265- 97, age 46, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) and eyes brown, ssar over right eyebrow, faint tattoo marks back right hand, ring 2nd right and 2nd and 4th left fingers ; dress, dark grey suit, silk hat. A mason : native of Liverpool. Sentenced at Northallerton Quarter Sessions, 2Ist October, 1897, to 10 years penal servitude and remanet of a former sentence for larceny. LINCOLNSHIRE. 30.— Alford ( County).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered), and failing to appear to his recog- nizance, 16th inst.— BERNARD EDWARD DE JERSEY BECK, alias J. MACHALL, age 21, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, clean shaved, small scar left cheek, left eye may be discoloured and slightly swollen, star left shoulder, anchor left forearm; dress, dark mixture suit with white streaks, dark tie, blue socks, dark cap, leather waistbelt with brass ornaments, fastens with snake hook. Has served in the Navy. Had in his possession a yellow hunter watch, steel chain, 3 or 4 coins attached, and a naval discharge, No. 305370. Carried a brown paper parcel, containing a pair white trousers, 1 bluette jacket, 1 cricketing shirt with loose collar, 1 pair blue soaks with white toes, 1 small mouth organ. Stated his intention of going to sea. Warrant issued. E31 .— Alford ( County).— For stealing, 16th inst., a pneumatic bicycle, black enamelled, red and gold lines, " W. T. Berry, Cycle < fc Motor Agent, Skegness, Rudge Whitworth," on gold in red and black letters on head, patent handle bars, cork grips, 2 hand brakes, bell attached, Eccle9 or Coventry tyres, double butted, printed in gold letters on bottom bar of frame, near head, W. T. Berry, etc.," on same bar, " No. 1658 " on frame under saddle, rat trap pedals, 24 in. frame— A MAN, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, slight moustache light, pimples on face: dress, dark jacket and trousers, white vest with red spots, white knot tie, white straw hat, with black and red band, lace boots. CITY OF LONDON. 32.— For embezzling £ 2002— WILLIAM CANN, ( Case No. 7, 27th April last), age 50 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair ( bald on top) and slight moustache light, eves ( pro- truding) blue, wears thick glasses, scar left wrist. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued)— NORFOLK. 34.— Norwich ( City).— For stealing, 20th inst., a lady's gold dress ring, set 3 sapphires surrounded with 12 small dia nionds ( imitation of 3 crowns); 1 do., set opal in centre, diamond each side; 1 do. signet ring, " G. E." outside, and Mizpah " inside, with a date; 1 18 ct. gold ring, set large diamond, claw setting, slight flaw in stone; 1 lady's gold dress ring, large emerald in centre, also set with 2 smaller emeralds and 4 small diamonds; 1 do., A pensioned civil servant. Is supposed to have left the country, propably for Canada. May assume the name of Graham. If found outside the United Kingdom, extradition will be applied for. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Stark, 26 Old Jewry, E. C. 35.— Norwich ( City).— For stealing, 27th inst., a silver Geneva watch, key winding, white dial, gold colour hands, outside case thin, common pin in bow; 1 silver chain, brass bar, diamond shape metal medal attached; and 6s. or 7s.— A MAN, who gave the name of GEORGE HILL, age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, round face, moustache ( turning grey) brown, London accent; dress, dark jacket suit, lubber turn- down collar with points, green tie. He took lodgings, and represented that he was going to be employed by a local upholsterer: also that he was an Army Pensioner, and that he came from Liverpool. Information to the Chief Constable, Norwich. 36. — Croat Yarmouth ( Boruuyh).
