All communication} for insertion in the POLICI GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to tliem, should be addressed to THH EDITOB OF THE POLICII GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 1. 1' articulari concerning persons whose apprehentian is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. A. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if tufjicient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. V Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, viill be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5a. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5I. to 10a. 4 remittance of 5a. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. I Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the cate may be. Ik. T X C 7. Announcements concerning stolen property mutt be guaranteed by an <> 0>.* t of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property beui • number, and as far at practicable they are alphabetically arranged l< » counties. 9. The force which causes particulart concerning delinquentt or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension o> recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to th » number of the announcement, for insertion in the next ittue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announc ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result froi* such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so at to be receive< t not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later thutt Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one tide of the pap't only; they must be in the usual form^ and accompanied by a covering letter 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows : — ( a) All persons coming within Section 5, 7, or 8 of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( b) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one month's im- prisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one month's imprisonment, with- out option of a fine, for any of the following offences : — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print DeDartment, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. FIFESHIRE. 12.— Cupar ( County).— For embezzling £ 34 16s. 6d., between November, 1905, and April, 1906— THOMAS DUNCAN SPENCE, age 23, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair, slight moustache, and eyes ( piercing) dark, carries his head forward, slouching gait, of reserved disposition; dress, dark tweed jacket suit, tweed peak cap, sometimes wears a light grey overcoat. An earthenware manufacturer's traveller, also held agencies for a pottery firm at Newcastle- on- Tyne, and china dealers in London. Absconded 30th ult. Warrant issued. VS.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing £ 2 12s. 6d.— GEORGE WRIGHT, age 44, height 5 ft. 10 in., stiff build, complexion fresh, hair dark ( turning grey), eyes blue, 2 Burmese women and a man, snake and palm, " Faith, Hope, and Charity" left forearm, harp, mermaid, and star right forearm. A navvy; native of Gloucester. Warrant issued. 14.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a black serge jacket and vest, fine material; 1 pair button boots, size 7, all nearly new— THOMAS DAYIES, age 29, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., rather stout build, complexion sallow, hair black, clean shaved, eye- brows dark; supposed wearing the stolen clothing and blue muffler with red squares. A hawker; native of Penygraig, has served in the Army. He sells razors at public houses. Is well known at Swansea, Newport, Porth, Pontypridd, Merthyr, and the Valleys. Warrant issued. 15.— Cardiff ( City).— For absconding with workhouse clothing— MICHAEL HUGHES, age 63, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, long face, nose flat at end, hair and moustache grey, eyebrows turning grey, right arm disabled, suffers from a diseased shoulder, may call at a Union to have it dressed; dress, light tweed jacket suit, cap, boots, all stamped " Cardiff Union Work- house." A labourer; native of Devonport. Sentenced at Usk Quarter Sessions, 7th January, 1903, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny and housebreaking. LANARKSHIRE. 24.— Glasgow ( City).— For fraud— JAMBS DOUGLAS, alias CHARLES YOUNG, Scottish Criminal Register, No. 32- 02, age 36, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes grey- hazel, burn scar back left hand, mole on back, scar right groin. A horse dealer: native of Boston, U. S. A. He, in concert with William Barker Pearson ( in custody), took stables for a few days and obtained monev by selling horses, and before delivery, selling the same animals to different persons. LANCASHIRE. 25.— Bury ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 4th inst., a ' Leco '' bicycle, 27 in. frame, \ in. chain, rat trap pedals, " Radax " front tyre, front rim brake, " Canfield" Coaster back brake, straight handle bars, black enamelled— JOHN ASHWORTH, age 22 to 25, height 6 ft., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown; dress, dark reefer jacket, cord trousers, cap, scarf, blucher boots. Noblett, Bury. 26— Bootle ( Bormtoh• — For failing to re- port— Licence- holder GEORGE BOWDEN, alias GEORGE BOARDMAN, age 36, height 5 ft. 0J in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scar under ears and chin, scar point of left forefinger. A labourer: native of Liverpool. Sen- tenced at Liverpool Assizes, 25th July, 1902, to 5 years penal servitude for larceny. Licenced 1st May, 1906. Has been convicted 8 times of burglary, attempted burglary, and shopbreaking. Information to the Chief Constable, Bootle. NORFOLK. 27.— King's Lynn ( Borough).— For steal- ing, 26th April, a bicycle ( recovered)— EDWARD LEEDS, alias W. KEMP and CROSS, age 33 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, thill face, prominent nose, hair and slight moustache brown, eyes grey, large protruding ears; dress, light suit, dark cap, brown boots, may be wearing long light overcoat. A cabinet maker; native of Wisbech, Cambs. Is well known to furniture dealers throughout the country. Has been convicted of obtaining goods by false pre- tences; also of larceny at Wisbech, Ely, Ramsey, and other places. The goods he obtains are sold by public auction at markets. Warrant issued. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. 2*. - Nottingham ( City).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 28th ult., a. quantity of groceries; and £ 3 7s. 8d.— AMELIA PROBERT, age about 21, height 5 ft. 1 in., slight build, rather round face, hair and eyes ( piercing) dark, prominent teeth, of smart appearance; wearing light cloak, hat trimmed with roses, and a white veil. She called at a shop on 28th ult., obtained groceries, in payment, tendered a fictitious cheque for £ 3 15s., drawn on the Southampton branch of the National Provincial Bank of England, re- ceived the balance, £ 3 7s. 8d., and absconded. ( She is identical with Edith Cole, alias Margaret Harrison, Fretwell, and Hillyard, who is wanted in various parts of the country for similar frauds, and is said to be accompanied by a man named Frank Middleton. See Cases Nos". 39 and 40, 4th May, 1906.) Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Notting- ham. OXFORDSHIRE. 29.— Burford ( Conn)!/).— For stealing a cuse of artificial flies ( recovered)— HENRY THOMP- SON, age 30, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, bridge of nose flat, scars back of each little finger, first joints of forefingers enlarged; dress, old brownish coat and vest, dark trousers, green plaid cap, blue muffler with white spots. A native of Crickhowell, Brecon. Is believed to have travelled with boxing booths. Stays at common lodging houses. Has been several times convicted of various offences. Warrant issued. SUSSEX ( East). 30. — East Grimstead ( County). — For stealing, 29th ult., at Withyham. a silver English lever watch, and white metal chain— EDWARD SMITH, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion and hair dark, eyes blue; dress, dark jacket, black cord trousers, " blue cap, lace boots, carried a fawn colour coat. A tramp- ing labourer; native of Sevenoaks. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Anscombe, East Grinstead. 31.— Eastbourne < ho o *<//<).— For s eal- ing, 21st ult., a bassinette perambulator, " C" springs, brown wood body, lined brown leather; 1 silver- plated cruet, 4 glass bottles; 1 child's patent chair; 1 plain Windsor chair; 1 table, about 3 ft. square, deal top, turned legs; 1 large white quilt; 1 " Singer" sewing machine; 6 table knives; 6 do. forks— ADA STOCKALL, age 29, height afcolit 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, sharp features, hair ( worn rather full in front) brown; dress, light tweed three- quarter length jacket, light silk blouse, dark blue skirt, red plush hat with broad brim, red trimming and feather, large button boots, wore a rather large twisted gold brooch, set small turquoise in centre. Had in her possession a lady's bicycle, B. S. A. fittings, with German silver shield, " The Veldt, A. S." thereon, a child's light wicker basket fastened on head of machine. Had with' her a FEMALE CHILD, age 18 months, hair ( curly) light; wearing light grey cape, white bonnet with a few light, daisies. Supposed accom- panied by A MAN, age 26, height about 5 ft. 9 in., hair light, clean shaved, weak eyes; dress, dark serge lounge suit, black cap, wore plain round gold pin. T.," whip, shoe, cross flags, and " L. F. TURNER '' left wrist; dress, dark blue jacket suit, black hard felt hat. A tailor; native of Ramsgate. He ascertains the addresses of persons having relatives abroad, calls on such persons, states he has just arrived in this country, claims to have known their relatives abroad, who requested him to call, upon the plea that he has lost his money whilst on the boat, and that his boxes, containing a large sum of money and presents from the relatives, which have been entrusted to him to hand over, are in the hands of the Customs' Authorities, he obtains a tem- porary loan of money for the purpose of redeem- ing his boxes.
