All communications for insertion in the POLICI GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOB Ot THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. i. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 9. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. i. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 6s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5l. to 10s. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. L T IONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an ofcctt of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements oj all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged bt counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, A'eto Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1.— A Division.— For obtaining 5s. by false pretences, 29th April— A WOMAN, age about 32, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, straight nose, hair dark; wearing long grey coat, flap pockets, white sailor hat, white wing or feather on one side, light veil, or dark clothes ( partly mourning), small black hat. She calls at offices, represents that she is related to a member of the firm whom she asks to see ( having previously ascer- tained that he is absent), then obtains money from employees by stating she has lost her purse. Warrant issued. 2. — Kt Division. — For obtaining bv a worthless cheque, 23rd ult., a 1906 10- H. P. Darracq motor car, side- entrance, body painted red, black beading, upholstered in red leather, long chassis, Dunlop non- slipping tyres, fitted with high tension ignition, bv coil and accumulator, " No. 8910" on small plate at side and on top of engine — R. ASHWORH, alias WILLIAM KEEN, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache reddish brown ( turning grey), eyes grey; dress, grey jacket suit, grey cap. Supposed a native of Southport. Warrant issued. 3.— E Division. — For misappropriating £ 3,681 14s. — THOMAS MONTAGUE RICHARDS, age 45 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to curly) and eyes grey, heavy gait; well dressed, usually wears a silk hat. BUCKINGHA MS HIRE. 4.— Buckingham ( County).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences at Long Crendon, 15th ult.— HENRY GREEN, age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair turning grey, eyes grey; dress, dark grey tweed suit, black tie, light lace boots. A painter and glazier; native of Hounslow. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bunker, Buckingham, or Inspector Swain, Brill. GLAMORGA NSHIRE. 5.— Cardiff tiUt » .— For stealing £ 2 12s- 6d.— GEORGE WRIGHT, age 44, height 5 ft. 10 in., stiff build, complexion fresh, hair dark ( turning grey), eyes blue, 2 Burmese women and a man, snake and palm, " Faith, Hope, and Charity" left forearm, harp, mermaid, and star right forearm. A navvy; native of Gloucester. Warrant issued. 6.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a black serge jacket and vest, fine material; 1 pair button boots, size 7, all nearly new— THOMAS DAYIES, age 29, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., rather stout build, complexion sallow, hair black, clean shaved, eye- brows dark; supposed wearing the stolen clothing and biue muffler with red squares. A hawker; native of Penygraig, has served in the Army. He sells razors at public houses. Is well known at Swansea, Newport, Porth, Pontypridd, Merthyr, and the Valleys. Warrant issued. 7.— Cardiff ( City).— F> r absconding with workhouse clothing— MICHAEL HUGHES, age 63, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, long face, nose flat at end, hair and moustache grey, eyebrows turning grey, right arm disabled, suffers from a diseased shoulder, may call at a Union to have it dressed; dress, light tweed jacket suit, cap, boots, all stamped " Cardiff Union Work- house." Warrant issued. 8.— Cardiff ( Cit. y\— For failing- to report— Licence- holder JOHN JONES, al^ s FITZPAT- RICK and DEW, Office No. 2686- 02, age 44, height 5 ft. in., complexion pale, hair ( partly bald) turning grey, eyes hazel, scar back of neck, cross flags front left forearm. A labourer; native of Devonport. Sentenced at Usk Quarter Sessions, 7th January, 1903, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny and housebreaking. Liberated on 2nd licence, 19th ult., which expires 26th prox. W d 52. Information to Head Constable McKenzie, Cardiff. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 9. — Stroud ( County). — For stealing 2 bicycles ( recovered) — TWO MEN ( lst, age 19, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair light; dress, mixed tweed jacket, rather light pattern, dark trousers, cap, wearing trouser clips. ' 2nd, age 19, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair dark); both now supposed wearing grey cycling suits, one a little darker than other. Believed identical with two youths wanted at Exeter for stealing a bicycle. Information to Supt. Biggs, Stroud. HAMPSHIRE. 1<>.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For steal- ing. 22nd ult., 2 banker's cheques for £ 5 17s. lid. and 6s. 9d., respectively; and £ 16 18s.— WIL- LIAM EVANS, age about 23, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, clean shaved; dress, blue jacket and trousers, fancy vest with red spots, dark cap. S. X." tattooed left forearm, " X." and dots right forearm, ring on 2nd right finger; dress, dark pilot jacket, moleskin vest and trousers, brown cap, heav- lace boots. A labourer. — GEORGE HOMEWOOD, age 37 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 9J in., complexion fresh, hair ( turn- ing grey) dark, eyes blue, first joint right thumb missing, dots right wrist, flesh mole right side of face, walks erect; dress, dark pilot jacket, brown vest, ' moleskin trousers, blue neckerchief, dark cap, heavy lace boots. An engine driver. May be found working as navvies on public works. Absconded 20th ult. Information to Supt. Wood, Watford. KENT. 115.— Canterbury ( Ccunty).— For house- breaking, between 21st and 22nd ult., at Sturry, and stealing a solid silver fish knife and slice, knife, fork, and spoon in small leather case; 1 gold snake ring, turquoise on head, diamond eyes; 1 silver hat pin; 2 gold wedding rings; 1 plain gold ring, gold plait at top; 1 gold locket, plain front, monogram " A. P." and photograph of a young lady at back; 1 plain gold locket, photo- graph inside; 1 gold locket, set turquoise and pearls; 1 gold plated bangle; 1 nickel plated revol- ver, 5 chambers, 4 cartridges; 1 long black over- coat, double breasted, velvet collar; 1 long dark grey do.; 1 black bowler hat; 2 flannel shirts with blue stripes; 1 dark grey jacket, square cut; 3 grey lambswool undervests; 2 or 3 pairs of woollen socks; 1 pair spring side boots, size 9; and 18s. 6d.; 6 silk handkerchiefs, marked " R. P." in black ink; 1 bluish grey morning coat; 1 greyish tweed jacket and vest; 6 lamb's wool undervests; 2 pairs dark grey trousers; 2 pairs woollen pants; 1 pair light lac3 boots, with toe caps; 1 chatelaine, consisting of a bunch of silver coins on a gold ring; 1 small silver Canterbury cross, silver and blue enamel colour; 1 gold locket, old- fashioned— A MAN, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, large Roman nose, scar over left eye, bad teeth ; wearing long dark overcoat, black hard felt hat. A native of London. A pair brown cycling shoes were left behind. 14.— Canterbury ( bounty).— Kor larceny ( bailee)— HARRY or HENRY IVES, age 33, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes grey, sometimes wears a moustache, cross and flowers tattooed left forearm, ship on right forearm; dress, pilot coat, cord trousers, cap with ear flaps tied at top. A native of Frimley, Surrey. Previously convicted at Dorking, Farn- ham, Camberley, and Richmond. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jacobs, County Police Office, Canterbury. 15.— Margate ( Borough).— For neglecting to maintain their children— NELLIE KEN- NARD, age 25, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion pale, hair dark, eyes blue, abscess scar left cheek. A domestic servant. Was accompanied by A MAN, a fruiterer: ANNIE BOWEN, alias SEAL or SOLE, age 22, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com- plexion fresh, sharp features, pointed nose, hair dark, eyes hazel. Believed to be pregnant. Warrants issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Margate. 16.— Ramsgate ' Rwrunh^— For neglect- ing their children— HENRY HUCKSTEP, age 48, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown. A fish hawker. May be found at low- public houses, common lodging houses, or in the company of dealers.— HENRY COLLINS, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, square shoulders, complexion fresh, of military appear- ance ; usually wears a yachting cap. May be found on public works or on a collier, he having served on the " Venus " of Whitstable. Warrants issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANARKSHIRE. 17.— Glasgow ( Oitu).— For fraud— JAMES DOUGLAS, alias CHARLES YOUNG, Scottish Criminal Register, No. 32- 02, age 36, height 5 ft. 8i in., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes grey- hazel, burn scar back left hand, mole un back, scar right groin. A horse dealer: native of Boston, U. S. A. He, in concert with William Barker Pearson ( in custody), took stables for a few days and obtained money by sellin^ horses, and before delivery, selling the same animals to different persons. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Glasgow. OXFORDSHIRE. IH.— Burford ( Caunly>.— For stealing a case of artificial flies ( recovered)— HENRY THOMP- SON, age 30, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, bridge of nose flat, scars back of each little finger, first joints of forefingers enlarged; dress, old brownish coat and vest, dark trousers, green plaid cap, blue muffler with white spots. A native of Crickhowell, Brecon. Is believed to have travelled with boxing booths. Stays at common lodging houses. Has been several times convicted of various offences. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Allmond, Burford. 19.— Watllngton ( County).— For stealing, 24th ult., at Lewknor, a quantity of lead ( re- covered)— GEORGE AMER, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion, hair ( turning grey), and eyes dark; dress, dark suit, dark soft felt hat or cap. A travelling van proprietor; supposed a native of Kingston, Surrey. On 24tli ult. he left his wife ( who is now in custody charged with stealing lead) and 4 children with a van and a brown horse between High Wycombe and Beaconsfield. Warrant issued. SUSSEX ( East). 20. — Hastings ( Borough).— For stealing, 25th ult., a " Club Swift" bicycle, free wheel, 27 in. frame, Dunlop tyres, inverted lever brakes, rubber pedals, flat handle bars, mud- g^ uards painted black, other parts lined yellow and green, bell at- tached— A MAN, who gave the name of HOARE, age about 24, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion pale, hair and slight moustache brown; wearing dark clothes and cap. 21.— Hastings ( Borough') — For stealing, 25th ult., a " Rudge Whitworth " bicycle, 26 in. frame, Morrow hub, Westwood back rim, jointless front rim, new back tyre, front rim brake with thumb lever, rubber pedals, recently re- enamelled — A MAN, who gave the name of PILBEAM, age 25 or 26, height about 5 ft. 8 in.; dress, navy blue coat, dark brown trousers, dark cap, lace boots. Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. WA R WICKSHIRE. ' 22.— Stratford - on - Avon ( Countv).— For stealing, 14th ult., a small English lever watch— A MAN, age about 55, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion pale or sallow, hair ( rather long) and moustache turning grey; dress, short black jacket, dark trousers, black bowler hat, sometimes wears a dark neckerchief and light dust coat, carries a small black bag, containing tools for cleaning clocks, & c., sometimes carries an umbrella with large crook handle. He calls at cottages, repre- sents himself as an agent or foreman of a well known local watchmaker, obtains watches, jewellery, & c., for repair, disposes of the articles, and absconds. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lambourne, Stratford- on- Avon. 23.— Birmingham ( City).— I or stealing a large quantity of cycle accessories— JOSEPH PARSONS, age 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, heavy moustache sandy, long prominent jaw ; dress, dark blue plaid suit, glass buttons with dog's head, on vest, dark tie, black hard felt hat. A native of Birmingham. Has served in the Oxfordshire Light Infantry. Held an off licence beer house, and had a stall in a market for the sale of cycle accessories. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 21.— Birmingham ( Citv\— For obtaining £ 275 by false pretences— WILLIAM HAR DINGE, age 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., bow- legged, slight build, complexion pale, hair light brown, moustache sandy, American accent; usually wears blue serge suit, black soft felt hat. Sup- pose an American. Served as a Rough Rider in the South African War. He opened an office, represented that he was carrying on business as a canvassing tea dealer, and committed the offence in the sale of this business. May endeavour to proceed to America or South Africa. Was accom- panied by his WIFE, a? e 30, short, stout build, hair frizzy; sometimes wears red serge costume, large hat; and A BOY, a<? e 6 or 7, hair ( curly) black; dress, sailor suit and hat. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Birming- ham. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 25.— Whitby ( County).— For stealing £ 1 from his lodgings, 24th ult.— A MAN, age 30 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair ( thin in front) light; dress, dark jacket suit, red tie with white spots, hard felt liat. Stated he came from Liverpool, and was about to open a grocery business. Information to Supt. Pinkney, Whitby. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 26.— Ooncaster ^ County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretneces— JOSEPH SWABY, alias HARRY JOHNSON, age 26, height about 5 ft. 7 in., strong build, complexion dark, hair ( thin on ton) and moustache black; dress, long dark smooth cloth overcoat, blue cotton smock, lined red and black, check lining, brown or black jersey, narrow cord trousers, dark check cap, faded blue cotton muffler with white spots, old brown leather leggings, strong lace boots. He took lodgings and stated that he was employed in the neighbourhood. A labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hickes, Doncaster. 21 .— Todmorden ( County).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Todmorden Union — WILLIE WRIGLEY, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, deeply pock marked, hair ( curly) brown, eyes blue; dress, usually blue serge suit, cap, brown boots. A native of Hebden Bridge. May seek employ- ment as clerk or timekeeper on new buildings or public works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brown, Todmordeu. ^ S.— Leeds ( City).— For stealing a postal letter, the property of the Postmaster- General— HERBERT NELSON, age 29, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., rather bow- legged, complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light brown, eyes grey, of smart appearance; dress, dark mixture suit, light cap. A native of Leeds. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Leeds. PERSONS m CUSTODY. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 29.— Fenny Stratford ( vouiuy).— sen- tenced at Newport Pagnell, 23rd ult., to 3 months imprisonment for larceny ( till) — GEORGE COOKE, age 31, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, scar right wrist, left forefinger, right thigh, and under right jaw; dress, aark grey jacket and vest with white stripes, blue serge trousers, grey cap. He was discharged from the Army Service Corps, 12th August, 1904. Found in his possession 6 pawntickets, relating to a gold signet ring, masonic emblem thereon; 1 blue serge jacket and vest, " Jaye & Co., Aldershot," on tab; 1 striped mixture suit, " Wheeler and Mallard, 1936, Aldershot, Woking, and Godalm- ing ( McCooke) " on tab; 1 black leather betting satchel and belt, nickel, silver fittings, " Harry Israel, Covent Garden," thereon, blacked over; 1 pair black morocco field glasses; 1 silver watch, No. 1568513; 1 silver medal, " McCalmont Cup, 1897, won by 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards" on one side, " 2nd Lt. E. T. O. Gascoigne, Captain, Lt. and Adjt. J. C. W. Heneage, Lt. C. Tryon, Qr.- Master J. May, Drill- Sergt. B. Cooke, Sergt.- Instr. A. York, Color- Sergt. W. Baker, Sergt. C. Hine, and Sergt. J. Wall " on other side, " Drill- Sergt. B. Cooke " on rim, in a black leather case, lined blue silk, " Mappin and Webb, Silversmiths, Oxford Street, W.," thereon. All pledged in London between 16th September, 1905, and 11th April, 1906. Supposed stolen. Information to Supt. Lait, Fenny Stratford. SHROPSHIRE. 30.— Pontesbury ( County). — Commuted for trial at next Quarter Sessions, for house- breaking— HANNAH JONES, alias VAUGHAN, EVANS, ARMFIELD, WARD, and BROXTON, age 45, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, rather flat nose, birth mark under left chin, cut mark 2nd left finger; dress, grey jacket with large bone buttons, black skirt, brown bodice, black straw hat, trimmed chiffon, wears a biack knitted shawl under jacket, light lace boots.
