POLICE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FKIDAY, MAY 25, 1906. VOL. XXIII., No. 2338. 1. ill communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAIETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. J. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 4. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 6s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. • i Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the cate may be. LT IONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an ofittr of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far at practicable they are alphabetically arranged t> ir counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announe- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the jtap't only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, ew Scotland Yard by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Put* Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Misting Persons" are onily accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be quaranteed. BUTESHIRE. 3 — Rothesay ( County).— For stealing £ 43 10s., including 37 Royal Bank of Scotland £ 1 notes— DAVID HERON, age 18, height about 5 ft. 6 in., good build, hair dark, slightly bow- legged; dress, dark tweed suit and cap. He was sent to the bank to cash a cheque, 18th inst., and absconded. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Rothesay. CHESHIRE. 4.— Hazel Grove ( County).— For stealing from lodgings, 7th inst., at Marple, a lady's gold dress ring, set 8 pearls and 1 garnet; 2 silk hand- kerchiefs; and £ 4 4s.— A MAN, age 34, height 5 ft. 9 in., stoops slightly, complexion sallow, prominent nose, hair brown, clean shaved, of deli- cate appearance; dress, grey jacket and trousers, dark fancy vest with red spots, low front, bluish mixture silk neckerchief, grey cap, boots with plain fronts. A weaver; has served in the Royal Artillery, Grenadier Guards, and Lancashire Con- stabulary. Supposed an Irishman. 2nd, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., hair and moustache ( turned up at ends) dark; wearing old dark clothes and boots. 3rd, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., hair brown, clean shaved; wearing old dark clothes and boots). Downes, Macclesfield. 7— Oakmere ( CountyV— For embezzling £ 5 4s. 9d.— JOSEPH HINDE, age 25, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) and slight moustache dark, may be clean shaved, rather short sighted, sometimes wears spectacles ; dress, navy blue suit, plaid cap, brown boots. A tailor; native of Tarporley. Has been employed as a coal salesman at Beeston and Tar- porley. A good cornet player. Has served in the Yeomanry. May be found racing men. Yeomen, or grooms. BROWNE, age about 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair ( long at back) and mousta- che dark, eyes ( supposed) blue, crucifix on one arm, American accent; dress, dark blue overcoat with beaver collar, cuffs and lining, grey frock coat, dark striped trousers, silk hat, lace boots with narrow toes, wore a gold watch and Albert with a number of old- fashioned seals as appendages. He represented that he was an American medical specialist, and gave a written guarantee that he would cure in 3 months a child 5 years of age who was unable to walk. Was accompanied by A WOMAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in.; wearing a light grey dress. And A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion sallow, hair ( long) black, American accent; wearing light overcoat, drab colour soft felt hat. Had with them 3 boxes and a dress basket. T.," whip, shoe, cross flags, and " L. F. TURNER" left wrist; dress, dark blue jacket suit, black hard felt hat. A tailor; native of Ramsgate. Sen- tenced at South London Sessions, 20th April, 1904, to 15 months hard labour for housebreaking. Liberated on remission, 13th May, 1905. 959. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A native of Birming- ham. Had in his possession a Pedlar's certificate, granted at Holywell, 27th February, 1906. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Holywell. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 13.— Dursley ( County).— For stealing £">— ADA WOODMAN, age 24-, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair dark; dress, light grey three- quarter length coat, dark pepper and salt skirt, large black chiffon hat with large black feather in front. A gipsy; native of Brighton. Is said to have been employed on public works at Glasgow and New- castle. Absconded 10th inst. They took furnished apartments, the woman then called upon tradesmen, ordered goods to be delivered, and in payment presented a worthless cheque, drawn on National Provincial Bank of England, Ltd., Shirley, Southampton Branch, and received the balance. A labourer; native of Northampton. Sentenced at Sleaford Quarter Sessions, 5th April 1905, to 12 months hard labour and one year supervision for larceny ( person). A canteen steward; native of Derby. He was invalided from the Royal Horse Artillery. Warrant issued. Information to the District Inspector, Long- ford. SHROPSHIRE. 30. - Whitchurch ( County). - GERALD BYLAND, Case No. 35, 18th March, li() 4, not now wanted.
