POLICE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1905. VOL. XXII., No. 2294. 1. All communications for intertion in the POLICI GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOB OF THE POLICI QAIETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. t Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue oj the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. < 1. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if lu/ ficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4 In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. • i. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 6s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 61. to 10s. A remittance of 5 « . should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. > Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in / orce against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. BUCKINGHA MS HI RE. 8 — High Wycombe ( Borough). — For stealing, 9th inst., a short light fawn colour over- coat, velvet collar, check lining, brown bone buttons— REGINALD JOHN RULE, age 15 or' 16, height about 5 ft., complexion fresh, full face, hair brown, large scar and bald patch back of head, sores back of both hands, large flat feet, walks badly; dress, brown stable suit, breeches., brown leather or cloth leggings, dark cap, lace boots with broad welts. A stable boy. Stated he belonged to Buntingford, Herts. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, High Wycombe. CA MBRIDGES HIRE. 9 — Cambridge ( Borough).— For obtain- ing £ 2 10s. by false pretences, 4th inst., and for stealing, 5th inst., a Raleigh" bicycle, 26 in. frame, black enamelled, flat handle bars, 2 inverted lever brakes, plated rims, " Castlewood " tyres — CYRIL ST. CLAIR, age 35 to 40, height ft. 8 in., thick set, complexion pale, full face, hair ( bald 011 top) dark, clean shaved, of smart appearance: dress, dark jacket suit, brown rain- proof overcoat, mixed tweed cap, or grey soft felt hat. He obtains private lodgings, has bill heads printed, advertises in London papers as the Manager of a Theatrical Company about to start on tour, and in want of artists, from whom he obtains a premium and decamps. He was accom- panied by his WIFE, aye 35, rather short, com- plexion fair: and his 2 Daughters, ages 14 and 12 respectively. Had with them 2 theatrical baskets and a " tin trunk. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued)- 10.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For obtain- ing 10s. 6d. by false pretences, 6th inst.— A MAN, who gave the name of H. P. WILLIAMS, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., hair and mous- tache black, of smart appearance ; wearing dark overcoat, black felt hat. Appears well acquainted with Post Office business. He obtains noney oy representing that he is collecting for local Post Office football and cricket clubs, Post Office gymnasia, & c. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. CHESHIRE. 11.— Middiewich ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), a silver English lever watch, No. 522366, maker, " Graves, Sheffield, Express lever" on dial — TED FLEET, age about 50, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair, moustache, and side whiskers grey, peculiar gait, carried a stick; dress, dark suit, black hard felt hat, light boots. A tramping watch repairer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooper, Middiewich. ESSEX. 12.— Brentwood ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 18th inst., a silver Albert chain, curb pattern; 1 metal sovereign case, con- taining £ 2, attached; 1 gold muff chain, about 5 ft. long— F. MACDONALD ( supposed false), age about 29, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin face, hair brown, clean shaved. He belongs to a Scotch Regiment, sup- posed the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, and was wearing uniform. Absconded 18th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marden, Brentwood. 13.— Chelmsford ( County).— For obtain- ing £ 2 18s., and a 9 ct. gold curb bracelet, by a fraudulent cheque, 15th' inst. W. HADLAND ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache ginger, Scotch accent; dress, dark clothes, grey overcoat, black hard felt hat. He called at a jeweller's shop, selected an article, and in payment tendered a cheque for more than the amount required, and received balance. The cheque was afterwards found to be false. Warrant issued. 14 — Chelmsford ( County) — For King concerned with William Nolan ( in custody), charged with shopbreaking, 2nd inst., and stealing 10s. ( see Case No. 65, 15th inst.) — TED WINGROVE, age 22 to 25, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, rather full face, hair brown, teeth decayed and discoloured, tattoo marks on arms; dress, light overcoat, dark trousers, check cap. A hawker; supposed a native of Hoxton,, London. Is be- lieved to have served in the Army, and to have been convicted of obstruction and loitering. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 15.— Romford ( County).— For obtaining 2 pairs boots by false pretences, 5th inst.— WIL- LIAM THOMAS ( supposed false), age about 65, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache white, eyes supposed grey, cut scar centre of forehead, 1 finger contracted ; dress, black frock coat, dark trousers and overcoat, silk hat, lace boots, carried an umbrella, crook handle with silver mount. He calls on tradesmen and represents that he has taken a large house in the district, that he is the friend of some well known person, and orders goods on approval. ( Supposed identical with Man, Case No. 7, 17th ult.) Warrant issued. 16.— Romford ( County).— For absconding with workhouse clothing, 3rd ult. —- EMILY TREDGETT, age 26, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion ruddy, hair ( curly) dark browrr, eyes grey; dress, blue and white striped print skirt and blouse, marked " Rom- ford Union, No. 86." A native of Barking- side.— MARY ANN BAYNHAM, age 21, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, 1 upper front tooth missing ; dress, blue and white striped print skirt atnd blouse, marked " Romford Union, No. 194." A native of Ilford. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Romford. 17.— Southminster ( Cot n'. y).— For stea'- ing ( bailee), 24th ult., a gramaphone and 12 records ( recovered)— HENRY JOHNSON ( sup- posed false), age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, speaks with Lancashire accent; dress, dark jacket, trousers and cap, red and blue neckerchief, boots cut down fronts. ( Supposed identical with Man Case No. 13, 1st May, 1903.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gibbons, Southminster, or to Inspector Waterman, Maldon. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 18.— Cheltenham (' bounty).— For embezzl- ing 12s., 6th inst.— CHARLES BARNETT, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, left leg deformed, thick clump under left foot; dress, grey coat, cord breeches and gaiters, brown cap. A costermonger; stated he was a native of Manchester. Absconded 6th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 19.— Gloucester ( C » u#> iy\.— For sacrilege at Huntley, 21st ult.— THOMAS JENKINS, aims TOM" JONES, age about 29, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, eyes hazel, burn mark one side of face, " T. J." tattooed on one arm : dress, dark jacket, white cord trousers, dark cap. Supposed a native of Pandy, Wales. Has served in the Army. May be found working on farms. Warrant issued. Harrison, Gloucester. 20.— Staple Hill ('•"" » "?/).— Escaped from Brentry Inebriate Home, 9th inst.— PATRICK MURRAY, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, girl tattooed left fore- arm; dress, light tweed jacket, cord trousers, tweed cap, " Nbr. 159, and B. C. I. H." stamped inside clothing. Committed from West London Police Court, 17th Januarv, 1905.— THOMAS PATRICK CROWLEY, age 25, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache light, eyes grey, " D " and 3 dots left arm; dress, light tweed coat, light cord trousers, tweed cap, " Nbr. 219, and B. C. I. H." stamped inside clothing. Committed from Tower Bridge Police Court. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Aldershot ( Coiivtv).— For obtaining a mare by false pretences, at Hartley, 4th inst.— THOMAS TAYLOR alias " BROWN, RICHARDS, and- W. CANNON, age 26, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion ruddy, hair and eyes ( right missing, wears pink shade) brown, clean shaved, mole outer corner left eye and left side neck, indistinct marks outside both forearms, 2 large circular marks back right hand, scar back head ; dress, dark tweed jacket suit, blue Melton over- coat, hard felt hat, usually carries a knotted cane. A horse coper. Has been convicted at Bristol, Hants, and Monmouth Assizes; Glou- cester Quarter Sessions: Southampton Borough Police Court; and at Havant, for false pretences. Is well known throughout Hants and adjoining counties. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 22 — Gosport ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences at Forton, 1st inst.— ROBERT CARR, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair ( curly) light brown, eyes grey, scar on one shin. A native of Portsmouth. A naval deserter, wearing uniform, " H. M. S. Furious " on cap. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. HER TFORDSHIRE. 24.— Hertford ( County\— Knr absconding from Herts Reformatory School, 13th and 14th inst. respectively—' WALTER ANDREWS, age 15, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion pale, hair light, eyes grey; dress, cord jacket, roll collar, one inside pocket lined calico, plated or brass buttons, cord vest, lined calico, back khaki drill, cord trousers, blue Glengarry trimmed black braid, surmounted narrow red braid, red tie, red and blue striped cotton shirt, worsted socks, strong lace boots, clothing marked " 791."- RAYMOND GILBERT, age 17, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, limps; dress, cord jacket, roll collar, pocket inside, 3 plated buttons, cord vest and trousers, blue Glengarry cap, broad black braid band, surmounted by narrow red braid, red and blue striped cotton shirt, worsted socks, 1 nailed' boot, other a white football boot. ( See Case No. 5, 30th June last.) Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. LANCASHIRE. 25.— Manchester ( City).— For embezzling £ 25, 24th ult.-- ALEXANDER McKENZIE, age 28, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, hair and moustache light, an inveterate cigarette smoker, stains on right thumb and fingers; dress, grey suit, light grey overcoat, lace boots. May be accom- panied by his Brother. ( See Case No. 26.) Warrant issued. 26. — Manchester ( City).- Yor stealing ( servant), £ 31 17s. 8d., 25th ult., and £ 260, by falsification of accounts— HUGH McKENZIE, age 31, height 5 ft. 4 in., stout build, hair dark, moustache dark brown, right knee weak, takes quick steps, ruptured, addicted to drink; dress, dark grey jacket suit, lace boots. May be accom- panied by his Brother. ( See Case No. 25.) Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 27.— St. Helens < "" much).— For stealing £ 2 Is. 9d.— JOHN BRAYFORD, alias MOSTON, age 22, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair and moustache dark; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, blue striped trousers, small red silk ncckerchief, lace boots. A collier; native of Kids- grove, Staffs. Has served in the 2nd North Staffordshire Regiment, and is said to have been discharged with ignominy. Has been previously convicted. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. LINCOLNSHIRE. 28. — Boston ( rounty).— For obtaining money by false pretences— WILLIAM NICHOLS, age 34, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair,, hair light, clean shaved, of theatrical appearance; dress, grey three- quarter length overcoat, dark navy blue jacket, dark grey trousers, brown kid gloves. A railway clerk; native of London. He represented himself as a photographer, solicited orders for enlargement of portraits, obtained deposits, and decamped. Had with him an enlarged photograph of a girl. He was released from Worcester Prison, 13th November, 1905. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Costar, Boston. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 29 .— Daventry ( Cou ity).— For obtaining £ 17 by false pretences at Byfield, between 23rd and 27th October last— REGINALD WYMER, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, small moustache black, of good address; dress, dark blue striped jacket and trousers, fancy vest, black with white spots, black bowler hat. He obtained the above amount from a clergyman by stating he had met with a serious motor accident, and that his chaffeur was badly hurt. Stated he had been a captain in the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brown, Daventry. 30 - Peterborough ( City).- For stealing, 4th inst., from the railway station, a portmanteau ( recovered); and 5th inst., from hotels, a brown overcoat, 4 large pockets inside, breast and 2 side- pockets outside, makers " Domby and Son, London," inside collar, a pair of tan leather gloves in one pocket; a brown leather kit bag, " H. W. M." in black letters on side, containing a night shirt, 1 brush, 1 comb, and papers relating to Hovis Bread— A MAN, who gave the name of ALFRED' ALLEN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, clean shaved; dress,, dark grey jacket suit and cap, may be wearing the stolen overcoat. . Information to Chief Constable Lawson, Peter- borough. RENFREWSHIRE. 31.— Paisley ( Burgh).— i or attempted murder— WILLIAM M'KILLOP, age 25, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair light brown, clean shaved, bluish scar upper lip, boil scars on neck, right hand and abdomen; dress, grey jacket and vest with horse shoe buttons,, jacket patched at tail, white moleskin trousers,, peak cap, blue and white spotted or white silk muffler. A carter. Frequents common lodging;' houses, where he assumes the names of William Stewart or William M'Culloch. Absconded 29tb< ult. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. A YRSHIRE. 32— 4yr ( GountyX— For obtaining money by false pretences— ROBERT HOGG LAWSON ( Scottish Prison Register No. 346- 95 and 40- 05), age 50, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair, whiskers, and moustache brown ( turning grey), eyes blue, right middle finger amputated at 3rd joint, varicose veins both legs, birth mark on breast, 3 moles on back; dress, dark grey tweed suit, dark waterproof and leggings, large red cravat, dark cap, lace boots. A drover. He re- presents that he is employed by a well known sheep farmer or auctioneer, and obtains money to pay for telegrams, & c. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr. CHESHIRE. 33 - Birkenhead ( County).— For b aving his wife chargeable to the Common Fund of the Wirral Union— ALFRED EDWARD ASHLEY, age 34, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes grey, prominent chin, small nose, slightly bow- legged, cut mark on chin, scald marks on both arms and right wrist.
