All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOB OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAED, LONDON, S. W. I. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. (. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if iufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. i. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of Bs. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from bs. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. I. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. / LXIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or oj stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged hy counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 Announcements concerning persons missing can only be accepted on pay- ment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. SPECIAL NOTICE. IN certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the finger prints alone being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photograph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be re- quired to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. A groom; native of Belfast. Sentenced at Belfast County Assizes, 16th March, 1903, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny. Licenced 21st July last. D 425. To be dealt with where found. 2.— A Division.— For stealing, 8rh inst., a light brown gelding, 16 hands 2 in., white star on forehead, small bald patch inside top of one foreleg, near fore coronet and near hind hoof white, broken mane, blood head, long legs, docked — A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, small moustache dark, eyes grey, 2 front teeth deficient; wearing a dark grey overcoat and soft felt hat. Warrant issued. — E Division.— For stealing a diamond ring ( by trick)— HARRY CLARKE, age 36, height 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved; wearing dark overcoat, black hard felt hat. A native of London. Appearance of a horse dealer. Warrant issued. 4. — E Division. — For stealing ( bailee) £ 1 8s., between 2nd August and 6th September last— FRANK SAUNDERS, age 36, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair black, slight mous- tache light, eyes brown; dress, dark jacket and vest, striped trousers, black overcoat, hard felt hat, button boots. Supposed a native of London. Absconded 8th inst. Warrant issued. 5. — J Divisioff.— For apsault— EVA CLARIDGE, alias JESSIE HAYTER, age 16, height 5 ft., complexion florid, hair dark, eyes ( cast in left) bluish grey; dress, grey tweed skirt ( wide flounce), pale green blouse, button boots, wearing a pearl necklace. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. a firm at Dartford, and was about to commence sewerage work in the district, pave an order for carting to be done, and obtained the above amount for the purpose of paying his fare to Dartford. BRECONSHIRE. 1.— Brecon { County).— For failing to re- port— Licence- holder ARTHUR HEATHCOTE, alias GEORGE SWAIN and WILLIAM EDWARDS, Office No. 1497- 01, age 65, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair white, eyes blue, scar centre of forehead. A clerk ; native of Whitby. Sentenced at Criminal Court, 28th May, 1894, to 7 years penal servitude and remanet of former sentence for larceny. Liberated on second licence, 28th Apri', 1905, which expires 27th November, 1905. Keg. No. G M U 596. Has also been convicted at Monaghan, Edinburgh, and Talgarth. II.— REUS MORGAN RHYS, age about 35, heights ft. 9 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, eyes brown, wears glasses ; may be dressed as a clergyman. A native of Neath, Glam. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Pitson, Aylesbury. CARDIGANSHIRE. 9.— Aberystwyth ( County).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences— THOMAS CHARLES LEWIS, alias T. R. CAMPBELL LEWIS, age about 50, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache grey, eyes brown; dress, grey tweed suit, square cut jacket with flaps and buttons over pockets, long fawn colour overcoat, black bowler hat. A native of Rhandrigynwyn, Montgomeryshire. Has been previously convicted. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Aberystwyth. BERKSHIRE. 6 — Windsor ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 2 0s. 8d.. by false pretences, 24th ult.- GEORGE CROFTON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 2 in., slight build, moustache ginger, speaks quickly ; wearing brown rough overcoat, brown soft felt hat. He represented that he was employed as manager to CARNAR VON SHIRE. 10. — Bangor ( County).— Kor failing to appear at Carnarvon Assizes, 26th ult., to give evidence against a prisoner for causing grievous bodily harm— HARRY HUDSON, age 62, height fi ft. 7\ in., complexion fresh, red face, hair and eyes grey, clean shaved, addicted to drink, large cut scar across nose; dress, brown suit. DERBYSHIRE. 11.— Chesterfield ( County).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Common Fund of the Chesterfield Union since August last — ALBERT CHIDZEY, age 36, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes blue. A violinist; supposed a native of Banbury. Usually engaged at music- halls or theatres. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Faulkner, County Police Office, Chesterfield. 12.- Langley Mill ( County).— For failing to surrender to his bail on a charge of unlawful wounding at Heanor, 9th July last— ROBERT BROWN, alias ASHBOURNE, age i9, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey A tramping labourer. DORSETSHIRE. 13.— Wareham ( County).— For stealing, 27th ult., a nearly new " Premier" bicycle, No. 202039, 24 in. frame, free wheel, 2 inverted lever brakes, red and green lines, tool bag with celluloid panel.— V. SHERUlNGToN ( supposed false), age about 26, height 5 ft. in., hair and heavy moustache light brown; dress, dark grey suit with white stripe, black tie, black hard felt hat, lace boots ( right boot recently repaired at right side). Stated he was a surveyor. He left Slough 1st inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. King, Wareham. DURHAM. 14. — Stockton- on- Tees ( County). — For obtaining £ 1 Is. by fraud, 19th ult.— G. GILLSON, age 30 to 33, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, red face, hair light, clean shaved, high pitched voice; wearing light tweed overcoat and cap. Had with him a small toy terrier, wearing a blue coat with red border. He called on a solicitor and induced him to insure keys and property with the Glasgow Key and Property Registry Company, by representing that he was agent to the company. Warrant issued. ESSEX. 15.— Epping ( County \— For stealing ( bailee), at Hatfield Heath, 20th ult., a bicycle ( recovered) — JOSEPH REED, age 26 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., slight build, hair light brown, slight moustache light; dress, old dark tweed suit, brown cap and boots. A native of Bishop's Stort- ford Herts. Frequents Markets, Fairs, and Cattle Sales. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Epping. 16. — Grays ( County). — For obtaining, by false pretences, at South Stifford, 23rd ult., a bicycle, 25 in. frame, black enamelled, transfer on head and down tube " Good Luck " and " E. North, Cycle Works, London Road, Grays," in- side a horseshoe, rat trap pedals, raised handle bars, no grips, 28 in. wheels, tangent spokes, front rim brake. Clincher A 1 back tyre, Micro- meter free wheel, £ in. pitch roller chain, black celluloid pump, rusty Challis bell attached. WRIGHT ( supposed false), age about 21, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion dark, clean shaved ; dress, navy blue suit and cap, light tie, lace boots. Warrant issued. 17— Grays ( County).— For burglary at North Ockendon, 20th ult.— GEORGE WILCOX, alia-. HICKMOTT and CORNWALL, age 37, height 5 ft. 7i in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, wart on stomach. A native of Hawk- hurst, Kent. May seek employment as a coach painter. Warrant issued. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 18 .— Dursley ( County). — For stealing a quantity of potatoes — RO LAND DAMELS, age 48, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, clean shaved; dress, grey mixture Norfolk jacket and breeches, dark worsted stockings, grey cap. A native of Nymphsfield. Warrant issued. 19.— Dursley ( County).— For failing to re- port— Supervisee FREDERICK FRY, Office No. 1571- 05, age 33, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair brown, eyes dark brown, scar left of forehead, on left eyelid and bridge of nose, mole on chin. A labourer; native of Charfield, Gloucestershire. Sentenced at Gloucester County Quarter Sessions, 21st June, 1905, to 3 months hard labour and 1 year supervision for house- breaking. 149. Perkins, Dursley. 20.— Staple Hill ( County).— For stealing £ 5 from her lodgings, 2lst ult.— FLORENCE MARSH, alias DAVIS and HUDSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, heavy eyebrows dark; usually dressed as a hospital nurse. A native of Bristol. May be accompanied by A MAN, age 28, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, hair and moustache black, eyes sunken. A native of Bristol. Stated he had been a ship's steward. Photograph can be seen on application. Absconded 21st ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Andover ( County).— For obtaining goods by a worthless cheque— GEORGE DUNN- ING, age about 36, height about 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, sharp features, hair and eyes grey, moustache ( turning grey) dark, some- times clean shaved, of consumptive appearance, addicted to drink. A horse coper. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bowles, Andover. 22.— Basingstoke ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 31st ult., a lady's gold Geneva watch, open face, chased back. No. 38998, black silk chain and watch key ("' Southampton" en- graved thereon) attached— V. SHERRINGTON ( supposed false), age about 26, height 5 ft. 6l in., hair and heavy moustache light brown ; dress, dark grey suit with white stiipes, black tie, black bowler hat, lace boots ( right boot recently repaired at right side). Stated he was a land surveyor. Had in his possession a nearly new " Premier" bicycle, red and green lines, Brooks's saddle, tool bag, celluloid panel, " V. Sherring- ton" on card in panel. Absconded 31st ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hale, Basingstoke. 23 — Southampton { Borough).— For lar- ceny— HERBERT JOHNSON, alias FOSTER, age 17 or 18, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair light; dress, grey suit, cap, dace boots. Warrant issued. 24.— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing blankets, & c.— NELLIE MORRIS, alias THORNE, age 48, height 5 ft., complexion dark, hair black ( fringe on forehead), rather large nose, front teeth missing; dress, black jacket and skirt, black mackintosh with cape, with 3 folds, white straw hat, trimmed red and white roses, shoes. A native of Southampton. May be found at low public houses or casual wards. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 25.— Ross ( County).— For stealing, 6th inst., a bicycle, " Kyrle " transfer on head, 23 in. frame, sloping top bar, raised handles, inverted lever brakes, 26 in. wheels, Dunlop road- racing tyres, mudguards, 28 in. stays to front guard, De Luxe saddle with plated springs, rat trap pedals, oval cranks, § in. pitch chain, oxidised silver crown lamp, machine black enamelled, red lines, plated spokes— A MAN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair and moustache brown, ring tattooed on one finger; dress, blue serge suit, grey motor cap, light lace boots. Stated he was a bookmaker; native of Nottingham. Is believed to be an expert bicycle thief. ( See Case No. 55.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marston, Ross. HER TFORDSHIRE. 26.— Hertford { bounty). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 3rd inst.— — WEBB ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., red face, hair and moustache dark; wearing a dark double- breasted vest. He repre- sented that he was agent for a Fire and Life Assurance Company, also for a cattle food firm. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. 27 .— Hitchin ( County). — For embezzling £•> lis. lid. 27th September last, and £ 5 Is. 10£ d., 6th ult., at Barkway— EDWAHD ROBERT CUN- NINGHAM, age about ' 0, height about 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes grey, carries his head and shoulders forward, small feet; dress, light brown suit, hard felt hat. A journeyman butcher and slaughterman ; native of i^ ickleburgh, Norfolk. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Rey- nolds, Hitchin. ISLE OF WIGHT. 28.— Newport ( County).— For obtaining 14s. by false pretences, 6th ult.— PAT KICK SHAY, age about 58, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, long features and nose, hair ( short) light, clean shaved, eyes blue ; dress, dark suit, black overcoat, grey alpine hat, black tie, lace boots, sometimes wears a silk hat, wore a mourning ring on 3rd right finger, carried an um- brella with white handle. He had circulars, representing that he was a physician and occulist, left at houses where he afterwards called and stated he had been directed to test persons eye- sight, and, if needed, would sell them good glasses at much below cost, which are found to be worthless. He left Southampton, 2nd inst., for Waterloo accompanied by A MAN, age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair and stubby moustache grey, wears glasses ; dress, light brown overcoat, buttons have been moved, grey and black check trousers, cap. KENT. 29.— Chatham ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 27th ult., 3 gold watches ( 1 18 ct. lever, No. 123683, " John Schultheiss" on dome; 1 field English lever, No. 2^ 1854, " John Schultheiss" on case; 1 18 ct. English lever, No. 283107, " John Schultheiss" on case— CKRIL BUTTS, age about 22, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue ; dress, grey tweed suit, grey cap, light lace boots. A native of Chatham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sargent, Chatham. LANCASHIRE. 30.— Liverpool ( City).— For neglecting to notify her change of residence— Licence- holder REBECCA ATTWELL, alios ATWELL and DAVIES, Office No. 1035- 05, age 50, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion sallow, hair brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, burn mark on right cheek and on back of right arm, cut scar back of left fore- arm, burn scar on and under chin, cut scar under right eye and on right eyebrow, 2 scars left eye- brow and centre of forehead, scar over bridge of nose, upper lip, and left side of chin. A native of Chester. Sentenced at Chester Quarter Sessions, 29th June, 1903, to 3 years penal servitude for stealing £ 1. Licenced 29th June, 1905. d 12. Information to the Head Constable, Detective Department, Liverpool. 31. — Manchester ( City). — For larceny ( servant)— CARL MEYER, a German, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion pale, hair, beard and moustache black, stifled manner of breathing, of smart appearance ; dress, dark suit, light tweed overcoat, black hard felt hat. He was employed as German corresponding clerk to a large firm, obtained a list of amounts owing abroad, had " Foreign Exchange Bank" with his name and address as banker printed on paper, forged the name of the firm to documents instructing him to collect the accounts, then forwarded same for collection to small exchange banks in Belgium and Germany, received cheques for same which he afterwards cashed with local tradesmen. Warrant issued. A labourer. Sen- tenced at Derby County Sessions, 6th April, 1903, to 9 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for larceny. Liberated on remission, 14th Decem- ber, 1903. 2600. Formerly a Colour- Sergeant and Musketry In- structor of the 1st Manchester Regiment, now a Reservist; is fond of billiards. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Manchester. erect bearing, complexion sallow, hair dark brown, slight moustache dark, eyes grey, left arm in. shorter than right. A printer. Has been em- ployed at Manchester, Liverpool, Perth, Glasgow, and in India. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Keys, Old Trafford, near Manchester. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 37.— Monmouth ( County).— For stealing a " Raleigh" bicycle, transfer " Supplied and guaranteed by Tom Norton, Llandriodod Wells" on top bar, 3 speed gear, speed lever on top bar, " Raleigh tyre made by the Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Co.," embossed on tyre, up- turned handle bar, wheels lined with red, frame with gold, cycle meter registering 201 miles, machine nearly new— JOHNSON ( supposed false), age 28 or 30, height 5 ft. 6 to 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark ; wearing dark clothes and cap, old light lace boots. Hope, Watlington. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 81.— Leek ( County).— Between 1st and 10th inst., an ivory crucifix, excellent specimen of Spanish carving, between 200 and 400 years old, yellow, face, hands, and hair delicately carved, arms probably detached, about 8 or 9 in. high, I and about 5 or 6 in. from finger to finger, small hole in hands and feet. A reward of £ 1 will be paid by the Rev. Alfred Montague Sperling, Broombank, Compton, Leek, to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves and the recovery of the property. Between 1st and 10th inst., about 2 yards of white crochet lace, pin wheel pattern, with border at top, about 1 in. deep, 6 in. deep including border. A reward of 10s. will be paid by the Rev.
