All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2 particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10i. A remittance of 5s. should be mode in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 8. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. A. TIOSTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual / orm; and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning persons missing can only be accepted on pay- ment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. THE EDITOR, New Scotland Yard, London, S. W. SPECIAL NOTICE. PRISONERS UNDER REMAND. The aid of the Metropolitan Police is frequently sought by other Police Forces to make inquiries respecting the antecedents of prisoners under re- mand, and such inquiries often result in identi- fying accused persons as being old offenders. But, in many cases, the time allowed for such inquiries is so brief that effect cannot be given to the request for information or that it can be com- plied with only in a perfunctory manner, and at great inconvenience. The Editor would therefore suggest, in the interest of the Provincial Police Forces, that four clear days, at least, should be allowed in cases of the kind,, to complete the inquiries asked for. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT L— Convict Supervision Office.— Supervisee JOHN SMITH, Office No. 3313- 02, Tabular Form, 6th January last, not now wanted. Before release from prison he was not directed to report himself to police, therefore, if found up to 20th November next, should be served with the usual notice to report, and the obligation to report until his supervision expires, explained. 2.— Criminal Investigation De- partment.— For gross indecency with male persons— CHRISTIAN ALBERT DAW, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion pale, hair brown, in delicate health. A schoolmaster; native of London. Late principal of Tudor House School, Denmark Hill, London. Warrant issued. 3.— L Division.— For indecently assaulting a girl age 9 years, 22nd ult.— RUPERT OAK, age 17, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown; dress, brown jacket and vest, light tweed trousers, dark cap. A native of Peckham. May visit Hastings, Bexhill, Paddock Wood, Whitstable, Headcorn, and Robertsbridge. Warrant issued. 4.— P Division. — For stealing ( bailee) furniture, bedding, etc., to the value of £ 10 — JOHN TAYLOR, age 48, height 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, eyes ' jlue; dress, dark jacket, grey trousers, grey tweed cap, lace boots. A horse keeper; supposed a uative of Bristol. Warrant issued. 5. — W Division. — For stealing £ 63.— JOHN MACKINTOSH, age 19, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, eyes blue; dress, light grey mixture jacket suit, black hard felt hat. A native of London. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BEDFORDSHIRE. 6.— Biggleswade [ County).— For em- bezzling £ 2, 2nd inst., at Potton — WILLIE DENNIS, age 27, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache dark and curly; dress, grey Oxford jacket suit, black and white check cap, Salvation Army overcoat, double rubber collar, button boots. Was employed as a draper's traveller. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Baldwin, Biggleswade. BRECONSHIRE. T.— Ystradgynlais ( County).— For de- serting his wife and children, leaving them charge- able to the Common Fund of Pontardawe Union— GEORGE COBNER, age 45, height 5 ft. in., complexion and moustache dark, hair dark brown, eyes hazel; dress, black coat, blue spotted vest, navy blue trousers, long black overcoat, blue tie, black hard hat, lace boots with pointed toes. A native of Llandilo. Has been a station master on the Great Western Railway, recently employed as a labourer at a colliery. May seek employment as a clerk. Absconded 13th March, 1905. BUCKING HA MS HI RE. 8.— Aylesbury ( County). — For leaving his wife and family chargeable to the Aylesbury Union Workhouse — JOHN WEST, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair and mous- tache light brown, eyes hazel; dressed as a labourer. Warrant issued. 10.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 13th inst., a " Royal Burleigh " bicycle, free wheel, plated rims, 2 brakes, Cambridge tyres, rat trap pedals, cranks not true, one handle tip missing, transfers not very plain — Supervisee FRANK RICHARD HAMILTON, alias FRANK and WILLIAM HAMILTON, Office No. 2426- 99, age 28, height 5 ft. 7A in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, hairv mole left cheek, cross swords, " ALICE," heart, arrow, anchor, horse- shoe, nail and flag left arm, Masonic emblem right forearm, ring on 2nd and 3rd left fingers. A mental nurse; native of New Zealand. Has been con- victed at Wigan, Preston, London, Gloucester, South Molton, Belper, and Saffron Walden. Poole"; 1 oil stone; 1 joiner's bass; 1 Jack plane; 1 rabbet do.; 2 punches; 1 hammer; 1 set of bits in case; 1 wood chisel; 1 gouge; 1 12 in. square; 1 do. bevel; 2 gimlets, some stamped " F. Williams" — A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., moustache light sandy, beard about 3 weeks growth, shuffling gait; dress, light jacket, cord trousers, dark peak cap. May seek employment as a basket maker or labourer; native of Wigton. Frequents common lodging houses and associates with betting men. Sentenced at Carlisle Quarter Sessions, 30th June, 1896, to 7 years penal servi- tude and one year supervision for countinghouse- breaking. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ross, Wigton. DERBYSHIRE. 13.— Derby ( County).— For larceny at Long Eaton, 22nd ult. — GEORGE REECE, alias REEVE, FEATHERSTONE, and STANLEY, age 35 to 38, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion dark swarthy, rather long face, hair and moustache dark auburn; dress, dark coat, vest, and cap, dark cord trousers, heavy lace boots. A foundry labourer; native of Clown. Has been employed at Coventry, Leamington, Mansfield, and Stanton- by- Dale. Warrant issued. DEVONSHIRE. 14.— Devonport ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and family— JOSEPH BARREL, age 38, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, com- plexion fresh, rather large nose, hair light brown, moustache ginger, eyes grey, " J. E." left forearm; dress, old brown guernsey, old cord trousers, old lace hoots, peak cap. A labourer or navvy; native of Thornton, near Blackpool. May be found on public works. Warrant issued. ESSEX. 15.— Chelmsford ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 4th inst., a " Humber" bicycle, No. 136456, 25 in. frame, Dunlop tyres, plated rims, black enamelled, front rim brake, back pedalling brake, cork grips — E. RUSH, alias ANIE RUSH, EDWARD HENNIKER RUSH, PLAY- STED, and ARNEY, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion, hair, and heavy moustache dark, piercing eyes; dress, black frock coat, dark or black trousers, yachting cap, grey speckled water- proof coat, wore a small primrose badge. A draper's assistant; native of Tunbridge Wells. Stated he was an agent for the Canadian Press Association, and was going to open a branch at Chelmsford. He left behind a brown paper parcel containing a piece of old canvas, brown paper, and a pair of old boots. Appearance of an Italian. ( See Case No. 25, 14th ult.) Warrant issued. A labourer; native of Bobbing, Kent. Sentenced at Maidstone Sessions, 8th January, 1903, to 3 years penal servitude for steal- ing tools. Licenced 10th ult, K O V d 323. To be dealt where found. Jordan, Grays. 17. — Romford ( County). — For failing to appear to a summons for larceny at Upminster, 8th inst.— KATE CLARK, alias SMITH, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue or grey; dress, black jacket, dark skirt, black straw hat with black band, lace boots, frequently wears a pink blouse. Stays at common lodging houses. Carries a small brown paper parcel. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Creasy, Romford. GLAM ORG A NSHIRE. 18. — Cardiff ( Borough) — For wilfully neglecting her children— MARY JONES, alias HOWELLS, age 33, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, oval face, hair brown, eyes blue, addicted to drink; dress, brown jacket with blue yoke on collar, greenish tweed dress, white sailor hat. May be found at common lodg- ing houses or low beer houses. A native of Car- diff. She hawks paper screens in South Wales. Sentenced at Pontypool, 18th December, 1901, to 14 days imprisonment, at Newport, 31st August, 1904, to one month for larceny. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 19.— Stroud ( County).— For stealing, 4th inst., several photographic negatives; 1 fold- ing mahogany camera; 1 £ plate lens, 3 double dark slides; 1 canvas case; 1 leather strap; and 3 large keys— CHARLES FULLER, alias LE FEVRE and CHARLES, a Frenchman, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 4 to 6 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes dark, speaks broken English; dress, dark suit, felt hat or light cap. HAMPSHIRE. 20.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For em- bezzlement— PERCY RAWLINSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion ruddy, hair and moustache sandy, may now be clean shaved, eyes rather small, small indentation in lower jaw near corner of mouth; dress, grey tweed suit, dark cap, brown boots. Has served in the Inniskilling Dragoons; spoke of going to Dublin. Absconded 8th inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. A shoemaker; native of Ely. Sentenced at Northallerton Sessions, 30th June, 1898, to 5 years penal servitude for burglary. Liberated on 2nd licence, lst ult., which expires 16th August next. ISLE OF WIGHT. 22.— Newport ( County). — For stealing, between 25th February and 4th ult., at Freshwater, a lady's pink dressing gown— A. E. JOBLING, age about 47, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes dark; dress, fawn colour double breasted ^ length jacket, black skirt, black straw hat. May seek employment as a shop assistant, a housekeeper, or open a small general or crockery shop. Absconded 4th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ayres, Quay Street, New- port. LANARKSHIRE. 23.— Glasgow ( City).— For embezzling, be- tween 19th December, 1904, and 6th February, 1905, £ 32 lis. 10£ d., monies of the Glasgow Opera- tive Bootmakers' Society— ROBERT HENDREN, age 32, height 5 ft. 10 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) and moustache light dress, dark grey overcoat, dark blue suit, soft felt hat. A shoemaker. Absconded 6th February last. Warrant issued. 24.— Glasgow ( City).— For embezzling £ 38 15s. 5d., 15th inst.— JOHN BALLINGALL, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair and moustache dark, cut mark bridge of nose, addicted to drink; wearing light overcoat or black frock coat, black hard hat or light cap. Is fond of the company of betting men. He was employed as a caretaker and rent collector, lias also been employed as an insurance agent and undertaker. Stated his intention of proceeding to New Zealand or Canada. May be accom- panied by his wife, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., white flabby face; and 3 children ( 2 boys and a girl), ages 9, 5, and 2i years respectively. Ab- sconded 13th inst. LANCASHIRE. 25.— Kirkham ( County).— For stealing from their lodgings at Fleetwood, between 16th and 18th inst., a lady's Geneva watch, flowered dial, chased back, gold hands; 1 lady's 9 ct. gold dress ring, set 3 white stones and 1 red stone each side— A MAN, age 25 to 27, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, com- plexion, hair ( bushy), and eyes dark, clean shaved; dress, dark grey check suit, fancy cut vest, fawn colour three- quarter length overcoat, light cap with large peak, lace kid boots with patent leather toe caps— and A WOMAN, age 20 or 21, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair and eyes dark; dress, light muslin blouse, pink flowered pattern, large collar, black velvet bow around neck fastened with gold wire brooch, gold colour brooch, " Baby " in raised letters, blue serge dress, blue tam- o'- shanter, dark grey check jacket with small cape and collar, kid boots. Ormerod, Kirkham. 26.— Manchester ( City).— Expiree JOHN HUGHES, Office No. 3328- 96, Case No. 18, 10th December, 1897, not now wanted. 27.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For stea ing, between 28th ult. and 3rd inst., a brown purse, containing lis. lOd.; 1 gold wire ring; 3 photographs; 1 silver heart; 1 lady's silver Geneva watch, gilt around each figure on face, engraved back; 1 do., white dial, engraved back, " Sarah Buckley " on inner case; 1 lady's long fine rolled gold watch chain— JESSIE MALLINSON, age about 20, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., stout build, hair black, red face; dress, black three- quarter length jacket, black dress, black chiffon hat, brown shoes, strap fastening, wore a pendant containing her photograph pinned on breast, and a heart shape ring on 2nd left finger; carried a black silk umbrella with gold colour knob, which is identical with one stolen at Oldham, 28th ult. LINCOLNSHIRE. 28. — Sleaford ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) a horse and harness ( recovered) — JOHN HENRY HILLMAN or SMITH, age about 30, height 6 ft. 1 in., walks erect, complexion fair, hair light brown, slight moustache light, may be clean shaved, left thumb and end of right middle finger missing. A fishmonger; supposed a native of Manchester. He visits inland towns, and repre- sents that he is opening a fish business, to sell direct from the fishing vessels to the consumers, and hawks with a barrow, or has a stall in a market. Stays at second- class hotels. Well known at Grimsby and in Nottingham district. May be ac- companied by his wife and 2 children, ages 9 and 5 years respectively. They may be found at private lodgings. Warrant issued. Photograph can be seen on application. Information to Supt. Edgley, Sleaford. 29.— Grantham ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 15 by confidence trick, 15th inst.— TWO MEN ( lst, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion, hair, moustache, and heavy eyebrows dark, cut centre of chin, gruff voice; dress, long grey mackintosh, dark trousers, grey cap. Attends race meetings; a native of Leeds. 2nd, age about 28, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., hair and moustache dark, stammers badly; dress, grey dust coat, dark trousers and cap. 30.— Grantham ( Borough).— Yor stealing £ 40 from his lodgings, 7th ult.— HARRY JACK- SON ( supposed false), age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, rather thin face, hair dark brown, clean shaved, one front tooth broken; dress, dark suit ( vest double breasted), bow tie. METROPOLITANPOLICE DISTRICT 31. — A Division.— For misappropriating £ 13 4s. 2d., monies of the Canadian Pacific Rail- way Company— ARTHUR STEVENS, correct name supposed SKINNER, age 34, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion sallow, very thin face, small chin, hair brown, slight moustache light, may be clean shaved; wearing dark clothes and silk hat. A shipping agent; native of Tice- hurst or Groombridge, Sussex. Well known at Liverpool. ( See Case No. 2, 5th inst.) Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. SUSSEX ( East). 32.— Hove { Borough).— For deserting his wife— FREDERICK DENYER, age 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., bow legged, complexion sallow, hair black, thick moustache reddish brown, eyes dark. A carman; native of Littlehampton. Ab- sconded about 4 years ago, formerly served in the 2nd Dragoon Guards, afterwards employed as a stoker on pleasure steamers from Brighton. Warrant issued. A reward of £ 1 Is. will be paid by the Guardians of the Steyning Union for such information as will lead to the apprehension of Denyer. Information to the Chief Constable, Hove. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued] NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. 33— Nottingham ( City). — For obtaining £ 4 15s. and a banker's cheque for £ 5, by false pretences, 11th inst. — JAMES G. REID, age about 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, com- plexion fresh, oval face, hair dark brown, small moustache dark, speaks with slight Scotch accent; dress, navy blue jacket suit, black bowler hat. Stated he was advance agent for the Kilties' Band. Stayed at a hotel, and in payment of account tendered a worthless cheque for £ 12 10s. on the National Provincial Bank of England, St. Martin's- le- Grand, London, drawn by Philip Yorke, in favour of J. G. Reid, and received the above as change. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Notting- ham.
