All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particidars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. A. TIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment ivill be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual / orro, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. SPECIAL NOTICE. IN certain cases questions have arisen as to the J payment for photographs applied for by Police , Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, | 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the measurements and finger prints being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photo- graph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be required to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. A native of Aberdeen. Sentenced at Exeter Quarter Sessions, 19th October, 1898, to 5 years penal servitude and 5 years supervision for obtaining food and money by false pretences. DEVONSHIRE. 14.— Torquay ( County). — For stealing a watch and chain ( recovered)— WILLIAM BAKER, age about 18, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light, slight moustache, eyes bloodshot, broad features, sharp nose; dress, black double- breasted coat, black vest, dark trousers with small light stripe, black muffler, blue cap, lace shoes. Stated he was a native of Ports- mouth. May be found with roundabouts. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Roberts, Torquay. DORSETSHIRE. 15 .— Beaminster ( County).— For obtain- ing a suit of clothes; 1 pair boots; 2 shirts; and food and lodgings by false pretences, at Catherston — ALBERT NO WELL ( supposed false), age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, cut mark about 2 in. long on one cheek: probably wearing navy blue serge suit and cap. Stated he was a native of Exeter, and that he had been invalided from the Navy. Recently employed as a mason's labourer at Charmouth. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brooks, Beaminster. Labourers; natives of Poplar. Both wearing cord vest ( with sleeves) and trousers, cap and heavy lace boots, all stamped " Poplar Union Workhouse." Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Marden, Brentwood. 17. — Epping ( County). — Fo- stealing a wooden bowl containing 10s.— SIDNEY NEGUS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., hair light, clean shaved, full face, probably has a scar on temple; dress, brown overcoat, large pockets, " Cohen, City Tailors, Hoxton," on tab, bluish trousers, neckerchief, plaid cap. HAMPSHIRE. 19.— f areham ( County).— For leaving his wife and family chargeable to the Common Fund of the Fareham Union, 14th ult. — WALTER BRADLEY, age 42, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair ( bald on top) dark, moustache light brown, eyes hazel, anchor on both forearms, penny tattooed back of one hand; dress, blue guernsey, " Evona " in green letters thereon, blue trousers, yachting cap with shiny peak, brown shoes. Silver, Gosport. 21. — Portsmouth ( Borough). - For larceny, 28th ult.— WILLIAM PAGE, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion and hair dark, slight moustache, ' 3 roses tattooed on one arm; dress, dark striped vest and trousers, military shirt, black silk neckerchief, black cap. Is be- lieved to have been invalided from the Army. He belongs to the Middlesex Militia. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ports- mouth. HEREFORDSHIRE. 22.— Hereford ( City). — For being con- cerned with John Hill ( see Case No. 28, 7th inst.) in stealing, 28th ult., a horse, trap, and har- ness ( recovered)— GEORGE DAY or HARRY CARTER, age 35 to 38, height about 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fresh or ruddy, slight moustache brown, supposed cut scar on left cheek; dress, dark grey suit ( believed striped), black bowler hat. They rented a stable, ordered a large quantity of corn, obtained a horse and trap on trial for 3 days, paid £ 1 on account, then disposed of the horse and trap and decamped, 28th ult. Warrant issued. NORFOLK. 31.— Yarmouth ( Borough).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— GLADYS LAUDER, alias ROSS and PHILLIPS, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., stout build, paints face, hair dark, wears a fringe; dress, grey jacket, dark skirt, blue silk blouse, crimson hat with large strings attached. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 33— T Division.— For sodomy — Expiree THOMAS LENTON, Office No. 1- 01 ( Cases 8, 24th, and 3, 31st ults.), age 38, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair ( thin on top, turning grey) brown, moustache ( cut short, turning grey) dark now supposed growing a beard ; dress, brown jacket, black trousers, bluish cotton shirt, dirty detachable shirt front, no collar or tie, dark grey stitched soft felt hat, shabby appearance. He chooses a Suburban District, accosts boys, ages 10 to 13 years, induces one to accompany him, ostensibly to collect golf balls or to carry a parcel, gives the lad money to purchase sweets, directs him to walk in front until an unfrequented spot on waste ground or common land is reached, and then frightens the lad into submission by placing a white- handled knife upon his hat, threatening to cut the boy's throat if he attempts the least noise. Sentenced at Northampton County Quarter Ses- sions, 8th April, 1897, to 5 years penal servitude and 2 years supervision for attempted bestiality. Licence twice revoked.
