All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2 Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another jorce. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. .4 remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, yew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. Not now wanted. 3.— X Division.— For sodomy on a boy, age 13 years, 5th ult.— Expiree THOMAS LENTON, Office No. 1- 01 ( Case No. 41, 21st October, 1904), age 35, height 5 ft. 9i in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( thin on top) and eyes brown, scar back of head, inside left thumb and wrist; dress, black jacket and vest, dark trousers, white front, grey soft felt hat. A labourer; native of Gretton, Northamptonshire. Sentenced at North- ampton County Quarter Sessions, 8th April, 1897, to 5 years penal servitude and 2 years supervision for attempted bestiality. Licence twice revoked. Liberated on expiration of sentence. 4.— Y Division. — For being concerned with another person, in custody, in stealing a gold pin — WILLIAM JONES, alias NIPPER JONES, age 28, height 5 ft., complexion and hair dark, nose has been broken, turns up at end, quick swinging gait; dress, blue serge jacket suit, black hard felt hat, brown boots. A clerk; native of Bournemouth. Sentenced at West Bromwich Sessions, 29th February, 1904, to 9 months hard labour and 2 year supervision for cycle stealing. CA RNA R VON SHI RE. 6.— Bangor ( County).— For stealing, 15th inst., a " Singer" bicycle — A MAN, who gave the name of FRANCIS ANDERSON, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion fresh, slight moustache; dress, dark double- breasted jacket, navy blue trousers, light tie with " bugle" safety pin, light colour cap with peak, shoes. Stated came from Colwyn Bay to join the Royal Garrison Artillery. Will probably endeavour to enlist at Depots in the South or Midlands. He disposed of the bicycle at Shrewsbury, 17th inst. CHESHIRE. 7— Dukinfield ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 9th ult.— WALTER FITTON, age 32, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair ( inclined to curl) dark brown, slight moustache dark, eyes red, eye- lids sore, shambling gait, lifts left foot rather quickly, large head; dress, brown jacket and vest, moleskin trousers, brown cap, clogs, all greasy. An iron turner or labourer; native of Hyde. May be found on public works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Crogham, Dukinfield. 8 — Macclesfield ( County).— For steal- ing, 17th inst., at Chelford, a pneumatic safety bicycle, " Rover" make, No. 5864, black enamelled, 26 in. frame, nickel plate, " Rover" thereon on head, slightly upturned handle bars, free wheel, 2 brakes, luggage carrier on back, Brooks's saddle, cyclometer on front wheel, Registered over 3,000, wrench and oil can — A MAN, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion light, slight moustache, American flag, Union Jack, and crossed hands left forearm; dress, dark jacket and trousers, blue slop, black cap. CORNWALL. 9. — Fal'mouth ( Borough). — For stealing from her lodgings, a gold signet ring, 3 coil, set dark malachite stone; 1 dress ring, double buckle ( recovered); 1 gold brooch, double heart, " Miz- pah " on front, interpretation at back; 1 gold curb bracelet with heart shape lock— GLADYS ROSS ( supposed false), age about 22, height about 5 ft. 2 in., hair dark, worn low on forehead, heavy eyebrows, front teeth decayed; dress, navy blue skirt, blouse of light material, pink silk tie, grey jacket, large black hat, buckle shoes with patent leather toe caps. Sentenced at Wrexham Quarter Sessions, 17th October, 1902, to 3 years penal servitude for cattle stealing; has also been convicted at Bradford, Salford, Knutsford, Kirk- dale, Leeds, and Preston. DERBYSHIRE. 11— Lang ley Mill ( County).— For scal- ing from his lodgings, 8th inst., at Ilkeston, a lady's silver watch, black figures, with pale green between; 1 lady's silver chain, small links, silver cross and figure as pendants; 1 lady's small gold cased chain, small heart as pendant; 1 lady's 9 ct. gold dress ring, set 3 brilliants; 1 do., set 7 small brilliants in silver setting; 1 do., heart in centre with " A. G." thereon; 1 gold filled bracelet, curb pattern with small lock and chain— HAROLD ROSS, age 27, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, freckles on face, hair brown, clean shaved, lame one leg; dress, navy blue jacket suit, blue cap with leather strap across top, lace boots. A rag gatherer; native of Dudley. Sentenced at Derby County Sessions, 6th January, 1904, to 9 months hard labour, and 2 years supervision, for stealing 3 shirts. DEVONSHIRE. \?>.— Devonport ( B ro gh).— For stealing from lodgings, 16th inst., 4 silver watches and chains ( recovered, except a silver watch, No. believed 6606, in a horn case; 1 silver curb Albert, and silver locket attached)— GLADYS LAUDER, alias PHILLIPS, ROSS, & c., age 22 to 24, short, rather stout build, hair ( straight over fore- head) dark, heavy eyebrows, paints face; dress, navy blue skirt, lighter colour blouse, white collarette, long grey jacket, sometimes wears an imitation seal or plush, " Russian" jacket, large black straw hat, trimmed black chiffon, pink silk tie, string of corals, patent leather shoes with buckles on toes. She takes lodgings at private or refreshment houses, and states that she has re- cently returned from New York, where she kept a hotel. She left Truro, 20tli inst., for Cardiff. Is, no doubt, a travelling; thief, and a prostitute. She is also wanted at Falmouth. Information to Head Constable Matters, Devon- port. DURHAM. 14.— Tynemouth ( Borough). — Fo<- em- bezzling £ 10 17s. 6d., 6th inst.— HENRY THOMAS, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, inclined to be corpulent, com- plexion fresh, full round face, hair ( in- clined to curly) and slight moustache brown, addicted to snuff taking; usually wears grey suit, black bowler hat. A native of London. For the past 2 years he was employed as a clerk and fish salesman, previously employed at Heaton, Newcastle- on- Tyne. Has been in Texas and South America. Is well informed in shipping matters. Absconded 10th inst. Warrant issued. 15— Tynemouth ( Boroua— For forging a Seaman's Advance Note, 3rd inst.— JOHN DIXON, age about 55, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion, hair, and moustache ( turning grey) dark; dress, dark suit, dark rainproof overcoat, black bowler hat. A hotel waiter; native of Darlington. About 22 years ago he was employed as manager of a coffee tavern at Stockton, has also managed a cafe at Newcastle- on- Tyne, and has been employed as a labourer at Forth Goods Station, Newcastle. Stated that he had recently been a steward in the Wilson Liners. Supposed well- known at Stockton, Darlington, and Newcastle. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Huish, North Shields. ESSEX. 16.— Chelmsford ( County).— ROBERT S. HANCOCK, Case No. 21, 30th October, 1903, not to be arrested. 17.— Romford ( County).— For failing to surrender to his bail in £ 200, at Romford Petty Sessions, 23rd inst., charged with gross indecency with male persons — WILLIAM HENRY PALMER, age 44, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion sallow, hair grey, heavy moustache ( turning grey) dark, eyes brown; dress, blue serge jacket and trousers, red woollen knitted vest, blue cloth cap with peak. A schoolmaster, late of Hornchurch. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Creasy, Romford. 18 — Southminster [ County).— For leav- ing his wife and children chargeable to the Com- mon Fund of the Poor Law Union, Maldon— FREDERICK HAWKES, age 34, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion, hair ( curly, bushy in front) and eyes dark, slight moustache dark brown, growth ( size of a cherry) centre of back; dress, dark coat and vest, light trousers, shoes, size 7. A carpenter; native of Burnham- on- Crouch. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gibbons, Southminster. \ 9.— Witham ( County).— For stealing a bicycle, 20th inst.— BERTRAM RILEY, age 25, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache ( about a month's growth) light brown; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, grey trousers, light grey motor cap ( worn low on forehead), cycling shoes, usually wears a muffler. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 20. — Swansea ( BoroughV — For stealing from his lodgings, 18th inst., a Post Office bank book; 2 fancy vests, blue with white spots, red flannel backs; 3 razors; and £ 1 10s.— ALBERT EDWARD BELCHER, age 38, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, hair very dark, London accent. May be found at Church Army Homes, or apply for employment by letter. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Swansea. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 21.— Cheltenham ( County).— For horse- stealing at Winchcombe, 9th inst.— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 10 in., long face, straggling whiskers ( turning grey) sandy, long spray feet; wearing dark grey overcoat, blue cap, old boots. Appearance of a gipsy. Warrant issued. 5* 2.— Cheltenham ( County).— For forgery — HENRY PERRY, age 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, corpulent, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, swinging gait; wearing dark clothes, hard bowler hat. States he is a native of Liverpool. Has been employed on tram- way works at Preston, Prescott, Liverpool, and in the Isle of Man. Supposed previously convicted Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 23.— Staple Hilt ( County).— For receiving a quantity of stolen lead ( recovered)— RICHARD RICHARDS, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, slight moustache light, bullet wounds under chin and on one forearm; dress, dark clothes, brown cap, muffler, sometimes wears a striped rubber collar. A native of London. He deals in marine stores, also attends markets and sells cheap jewellery, picture post cards, & c. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. 24.— Bristol ( City).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 13th inst., a dark brown horse cob, about 7 years, 14 hands 3 in., stiff build, blistered in front, recently clipped, high showy action, may go slightly lame after being driven a long distance — WiLLIAM MASON, alias WILLIAM O'ROURKE, age 29, height 5 ft. 8£ in., com- plexion fresh, hair and slight moustache light brown, eyes grey, dot inside of both forearms, anchor back of right hand; dress, dark grey suit ( trousers tight fitting), dark cap, turned up at back. A groom; native of Bristol. After obtain- ing the cob he borrowed a set of light black leather harness, brass mounts, rush collar lined yellow material; and a Reading spring trap, painted dark green, picked out red, " G. C." in gilt on back, red wheels picked out black, near shaft has been re- paired with an iron plate. Absconded 13th inst. May be found in company of low horse dealers at markets and fairs. HAMPSHIRE. 25.— Aldershot ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences, 22nd inst., 2 caps; 30 white handkerchiefs; 2 bath towels; and 6 pig skin purses — ARTHUR WATTS, age 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, birth mark left shoulder, cut mark back left forearm, mole right side of face, 4 dots right forearm; dress, dark blue serge suit, old brown cap, suppose.! dark muffler. A fish hawker, may be found at garrison towns or camps, or selling race cards at race meetings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 26. — Alton ( County). — For stealing, llth inst., 3 Postal Orders ( 2 for £ 1, issued at Forest Hill; 1 for 10s., issued at Hunstanton); 1 pair of boots; 1 shirt; 1 razor; 1 shaving brush; 1 strop; and a pair of scissors— MARTIN KELLY, age 24, height about 5 ft., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache brown, eyes grey, slightly deaf; dress, blue coat and trousers, black vest, blue jersey, dark cap, tan colour lace boots with rubber pads on soles. A photographer; native of Switzerland.— Was accompanied by his WIFE, age 25, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., slight build, com- plexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes blue; dress, black and white check skirt, grey three- quarter length jacket, black striped straw hat, trimmed blue ribbon, black astrachan boa, canvas strap shoes. WARD from HARRY," and a date; 1 amethyst necklace, 8 or 9 stones; 1 long blue stone chain and charms, with 2 photographs in frame; 1 gold pencil case; 1 emerald ring; 1 plain gold wire ring, with " L " on shield; 1 fiat curb bracelet, set turquoise all round; 1 silver backed hair brush, design angel's head; 1 do. hand glass, do.; several small pieces of jewellerv: 1 plain brown leather hand bag: about 10 blouses, various colours— MARY LYONS, Office No. 684- 04, age 42, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion oale, hair and eyes dark, rather thin face, walks erect; dressed, when last seen in a royal blue skirt and felt hat, with pom- poms to match, may be wearing a pink print skirt. A servant; native of London. Sentenced at St. Albans Quarter Sessions, 16th June, 1903, to 12 months hard labour for larceny ( dwelling). Liberated on remission, 2nd May, 1904. 22. Warrant issued. W." in blue ink back of one hand, walks erect; dress, blue serge jacket and trousers, dark grey overcoat, dark cap, military boots. A shop porter; native of London. Has served in the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. OXFORDSHIRE. 32.- Oxford ( City).— For obtaining £ 6 14s. 6d. by a worthless cheque. No 183/ 0— g 60315, drawn on Lloyd's Bank, Fenchurch Street, Lon- don, signed by Edward Barnett— A MAN, who gave the name of R. WILLIAMSON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, long features, hair very light or sandy, clean shaved, jit?**, appearance of a valet; dress, dark grey serge suit, black bowler hat, lace boots. He represented him- self as a tailor, obtained an order for a costume, and received £ 1 on account. Had with him pat- terns of cloth, also a cheque book on the Capital and Counties Bank, Ltd., Oxford, Nos. H 21721 to 21750, two of which he has disposed of. He opened large business premises as a tailor, thereby gaining the confidence of the bank authorities. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Oxford.
