All communications for insertion in the POLICB GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue oj the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 6s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5S. to 10A. .4 remittance of 5S. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. ft. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ^ TlOIff S. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded « O as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the papei only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scolland Yard by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. . . 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. Warrant issued. 6— T Division.— For stealing £ 27 19s. 5d.— WILLIAM COOLEY ELLIS, age 40, height 5 ft. 11 iu. or 6 ft., complexion fresh, haar, beard, and whiskers sandy, eyes ( deep set) blue, of smart appearance; dress, brown overcoat, tweed suit, black hard felt hat, lace boots, sometimes wears glasses with steel rims. Has served in the Army Ordnance Corps. Warrant issued. 7.— W Division.— For obtaining £ 2 5s. bv a worthless cheque— J. W. He represented that he had been instructed to purchase a business, which was for sale, and uttered the cheque as a deposit. A tramping watch cleaner. He took lodgings, stated he was starting a business, committed lar- ceny, and decamped. Warrant issued. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 23.— Huntingdon ( County).— For obtain- ing various sums of money by false pretences— A MAN, age 23 to 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion and eyes dark, hair ( inclined to curl) black, thick lips, husky voice, appearance of a foreigner; dress, navy blue overcoat, velvet collar, dark grey trousers, dark cap or hat, dark tie. He calls upon clergymen, stating he is a rail- way clerk, that he suffers with varicose veins, and asks for a few shillings to enable him to obtain an elastic stocking. ( Supposed identical with F. Wood, Case No. 10, 20th January, 1905.) Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Copping, Huntingdon. Was employed as a pawnbroker's manager. Ab- sconded lst inst. Information to the Chief Constable, Asliton- under- Lyne. 30. — Salford ( Boroogh). — For stealing ( servant) £ 18 14s. 10d., and securities for money — PETER APPLETON, alias PETER AP- PLETON BACH, age 18, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fair, hair light and curly, long red face; dress, dark suit with faint light stripe, dark speckled cap. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Salford. 31.— Warrington ( Borough).— For steal- ing ( by trick) 2 gramaphones and 19 records ( recovered)— A MAN, who gave the name of H. BENTLEY, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, moustache sandy, speaks with Lancashire or Birmingham accent; dress, black or blue jacket, dark vest, muffler and cap, brown cord trousers. He called at a music shop and asked for a gramaphone and records, for which he stated he had made arrangements with the owner the previous evening; also stated that it was for a concert, and that he had paid a half guinea for the loan of it. LINCOLNSHIRE. 32.— Grimsby ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 3 10s. by false pretences, 3rd inst. — Licence- holder HARRY HANNAH, Office No. 657- 02, age 41, height 5 ft. 1\ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache, eyes blue, " H. H. S. B." left, cross, flags and anchor right forearm, star back left hand; dress, dark blue suit, dark knot tie. A fitter; native of Grimsby. Sentenced at Northallerton Quarter Sessions, 3rd July, 1902, to 3 years penal servitude for obtaining money by false pretences. Licenced 6th October, 1904. C 279. Warrant issued. Is believed to be fond of playing football. Had in his possession a Marine Engineers' 2nd Class Certificate, and a brown leather bag, containing football outfit. An engineer or fitter. A native of Stalybridge.— PETER BURCHALL, age 18, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair black, eyes dark, abscess marks right side of neck and cheek ; dress, dark serge coat and vest, dark trousers and cap, strong lace boots with new toecaps. Hertford ( County).— For stealing, 5th inst., from Hertford Union, a long brown neck fur and muff to match; 1 new umbrella, bone handle, gold band; 1 pair lady's shoes, size 6; 1 plain black skirt with strappings and 2 rows of buttons down front; 1 small dark grey Russia coat; 1 black straw hat, trimmed black silk; 1 hat pm, silver mounted; 1 brown leather purse containing £ 1 7s.; 5 new handkerchiefs— ELIZA STREET, age 19, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com- plexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes ( large) hazel; dress, black clothes, old black sailor hat, may now be wearing the stolen clothing. Frequents lodg- ing houses and beer houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. 22.— Hitchin ( County).— For stealing, 24th ult., 78 newspapers ( Hertfordshire News)— H. J. H. ROBERTS, age 15, height about 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair brown; dress, brown jacket ( supposed), cord trousers, light brown cap with green stripes. Absconded 24th ult. Had with him a roadster bicycle, 23 in. frame, flat handle bars, 2 Crabbe brakes, 1 pull up lever working both, plated wheels, British tyres, No. 49270 under bracket, free wheel, " Nightingale," transfer. Stated lie came from ISLE OF WIGHT. 24.— Newport ( County).— For stealing, 26th ult., at Parkhurst Barracks, a valuable ostrich feather fan; several dresses; and a sealskin cape ( recovered); 1 dark mixture overcoat, three- quarter length; 1 pale blue voile dress, trimmed white lace and blue ribbon, with black spots; 1 blue tea gown, trimmed coffee colour lace; 1 voile bodice, trimmed velvet; 1 fawn colour muslin bodice, trimmed lace; 1 Burmese pale green silk petticoat; and a pair of sealskin gloves— GEORGE JAMES AMBROSE, age 36, height 5 ft. 9J in., good build, complexion fair, hair and eyes brown, rather heavy moustache light, of smart appear- ance, star, snake and woman's head right forearm, woman and fan right arm, lion, shield, Prince of Wales's feathers, heart, dagger, & c., left forearm, scar left thigh; dress, brown mixture jacket suit, black bowler hat, and the stolen overcoat. A native of Whitechapel. Was employed as an officer's servant. Is a deserter from the lst Royal Fusiliers. ( See POLICE GAZETTE, 7th inst., Office No. 4.) His wife and child left for London on 5th inst., had with them 1 brown box and a small plain white case, addressed, " Mrs. W. Waters, 17 Portnall Road, Harrow Road, Paddington, London, W." R." above) left wrist, cross, pedestal back left forearm, part ring and dots on first, second, and third left fingers, cross flags and anchor back right forearm, flag front right forearm, anchor back right hand. A mason; native of London. Sentenced at Middlesex Ses- sions, 17th February, 1894, to 7 years penal servi- tude and 5 years supervision for housebreaking. Licenced 25th August, 1899. I N U 680. Information to Chief Constable Thcrnton, Gravesend. 26.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 25th ult., a dark grey travelling rug, royal blue and white mixture check inside, with fringe— A GIRL, who gave the name of — ISAACS, age about 17, height about 5 ft. 4 in., of smart appearance; dress, dark navy or grey cos- tume, blue and white fan shape ribbon at back of hat. She obtained the rug on approval, stated it was for her father, and gave a false address. On the same date she also obtained, by similar means, from another tradesman, a lady's red French twill flannel dressing gown, handkerchief sleeves, trimmed grey and white; she was then wearing a fawn colour coat. LANARKSHIRE. 27.— Glasgow ( City).— For stealing, be- tween lst May and 31st December, 1904, a large quantity of jewellery— WILLIAM M. CAND- LINE, age 26, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion pale, hair light; dress, dark tweed suit, dark grey over- coat, black hard felt hat. A native of Glasgow. FRIDAY, MARCH 17, 1905. METROPOLITAN 35.— Criminal Investigation De- partment*— For obtaining 5J. by false pre- tences, 27th January last— WILLIAM WAL- LACE RUSSELL, alias GREEN, JOHN WIL- LIAM MAURICE RUSSELL, EUGENE EVANS, and WILLIAM WALLACE LLOYD, age 27, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, may be wearing a slight dark moustache, eyes grey; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, dark trousers, hard felt hat or cap. Supposed a native of London. He calls upon persons connected with POLICE DISTRICT. churches or chapels, represents that he has been recommended to them by another person connected with the same church or chapel, then produces an enlistment form for the Royal Marines, and requests money to enable him to travel to Chat- ham to join. He invariably gives address, 10 Ferry House Street, Brompton, Chatham. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. KENT. 36.— Tonbridge ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— ALFRED ARTHUR JARVIS, alias WILLIAM PERRY, RAVEN, BEVAN, BENNETT, and WALSH, & c., Office No. 530- 02, age 46, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion fresh, hair black ( turning grey), eyes blue, blue scar under, and outer corner of right eye, mole on right cheek; dress, dark coat and vest, dark grey trousers, rubber cuffs, square hard felt hat. A native of Newcastle. He represented that he was an agent to the Lady newspaper, and ap- pointed sub- agents. Sentenced at Cumberland County Sessions, 9th April, 1901, to 12 months hard labour, for obtaining money by false pre- tences; has also been convicted at Bedford, North ampton, Cambridge, Warwick, Bristol, Stafford, Salford, Leeds, and Northallerton. ( See Case No. 18, 24th ult.; and Case No. 24, 29th April, 1904.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Styles, Tonbridge. Kershaw, Oldham," on tailboard; 1 black waterproof loin cloth.— Suspicion is attached to A MAN, age 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion, hair and moustache ( turning grey) dark, appear- ance of a showman; wearing a dark overcoat.
