All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOK OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAIID, LONDON, S. W. ' 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings o; stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the. engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ATIOST s. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guurunleed by an ufficer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. S. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any anitounce- ment will be wliolly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should he forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. Sew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Purl'uiment Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only he accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same wiU be given on application. NUMEROUS complaints have been received by the Glasgow Police regarding the Scottish Photo- graph Touring and Pictorial Post Card Company, 74 Broomielaw, Glasgow. This business is carried on by ALFRED FRY and his wife. Fry, who was declared a bankrupt in August, 1903, travels the United Kingdom iu company of one or two men soliciting orders for photographs and pictorial post cards, a female usually follows them and receives deposits on orders taken. The orders are forwarded to Glasgow and are not executed until after many months' delay. CITY OF LONDON. — For conspiracy and fraud — JOHN O. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 9.— Cambridge ( Borough).— Yor obtain- ing two silk handkerchiefs by false pretences, 30th ult.— A MAN, who gave the name of JACKSON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 7 in., thick set, liair dark brown, moustache dark; dress, black melton jacket, brown cord trousers, dark cap, blue cotton jacket. Appearance of an engine- driver or a mechanic. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. CHESHIRE. 10 — Crewe ( County). — For obtaining- money bv false pretences— JOHN THOMAS GIBSON, alias JOHN WILLIAMS, Office No. 1834- 00, age 30, height 5 ft. lj in., complexion fresh, hair ( thin on top) light brown, eyes grey, scar back right hand, on and above left eyebrow, mole back neck, face and back of hands freckled, high cheek bones; dress, blue ( double- breasted) jacket suit, dark grey cap with black stripe, white satin tie with red flower, strong lace boots. An engineer; native of Congleton. He took lodgings at Shavington, 14th ult., stating he was a foreman engineer from the Westinghouse Co., Old Trafford, and had come to instal the eiectric light at a residence. Borrowed Is. from the landlady, and absconded 18th ult. Sentenced at Stafford Quarter Sessions, lst December, 1903, to 12 months hard labour for obtaining goods bv false pretences. Pearson, Crewe. 11 — Macclesfield ( Borough).— For bal- ing, 25th ult., a bicycle, " Smiths of Saltley " on head, and " The Saltley " on bottom tube, Bowden brake, roller free wheel, new Dunlop front tyre. Dunlop tandem back tyre, stamped " Clearance " inside, rims 28 by lg, bottom tube of frame damaged near head, flat handle bars, white centre and brown tipped handles LOWE, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 2 in., thin face, clean shaved; dress, dark tweed suit, tan boots, brown leggings. NUMEROUS complaints have been received by the Glasgow Police regarding CRAIG, CRAIG < Sr CO. and MITCHELL < fc CO., Jewellers and Musical Instrument Dealers, & c., 55 Bath Street, Glasgow. Both businesses are conducted by the same persons; they advertise extensively, the advertisements being so framed as to lead credu- lous people to believe that the articles will be for- warded on receipt of a deposit of sixpence, but this is not so, as the article is only said to be secured on payment of the deposit, and set aside till the balance of the price. Is paid. Persons who have paid the deposit, on writing for an explana- tion, are invariably informed that unless the regulations as regards quoting the registered number are observed, no notice can be taken of any communication. As these complaints are outside Police inter- ference, persons complaining should take proceed- ings in a Civil Court. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. Supposed a native of Yorkshire. Warrant issued. 2.— P Division. — For obtaining £ 2 Ss. 6d. by fraud, 21st ult.— R. THOMAS, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion pale, hair light ; dress, long dark overcoat, grey striped trousers, black hard felt hat, tail colour gloves. Represents himself as a clergy- man, gains the confidence of the clergy, then sug- gests collecting subscriptions in aid of some charity, for which he receives money and absconds. Warrant issued. 7.— Reading ( County).— For stealing. 20th ult., a watch ( recovered)-- LYD RAWLINGS. age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache light brown, slightly bow learned, impediment in speech; dress, dark suit, overcoat and cap. A stableman; native of Wincanton, Somerset. May seek employment at livery yards or with horse dealers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Silk weavers. 13— Macclesfield ( Borough).— For steal- ing from his lodgings, 5th and 6th inst., a pair of pepper and salt colour trousers; 1 do. vest ( nearly new); 1 silver Trenton lever watch, No. 7955, white face, gold hands, chased back; 1 silver Albert, small curb pattern, silver medal ( Maltese cross) and oval gold centre pendant— STEVENS ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, full face, complexion, hair and moustache dark, two of left fingers con- tracted or deformed; dress, dark coat, probably wearing the stolen trousers and vest, and a gold watch chain. He takes lodgings, states he has horses to sell at a fair, or that he is repairing signals on the railway. Information to Chief Constable Berry, Maccles- field. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 14.— Dumfries ' Borough).— Kor obtaining an overcoat and money by false pretences— Licence- holder HENRY A. CARTER, Office No. 2706- 02, described in Case No. 57, Current Issue. On this occasion he described himself as Major Clayton, of the 9th Lancers. Wan- ant issued. Information to Chief Constable Lipp, Dumfries. ESSEX. 15.— Grays ( County).— For obtaining money and goods by a seaman's forged advance note— THOMAS NEILSON ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion and heavy moustache dark, speaks with foreign accent; wear- ing a dark overcoat. IS.— Southend- on- Sea ( County).— For stealing from their lodgings, 20th ult., a black serge jacket and vest; 1 pair light check trousers; 1 drab colour fancy vest with red spots; 1 black frock coat; 6 white shirts, collar size 15, maker, Gardiner & Co., London; 1 print night shirt; 2 pairs full size Witney blankets, blue borders, nearly new— BENJAMIN SMITH, alias GEO. HICKS, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion ruddy, full face, hair dark, speaks with north country accent; dress, black jacket and vest, light trousers, black overcoat, wearing hard hat or cap. ROSE HICKS, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair dark, wears fringe, impediment in speech; dress, black skirt, white bodice, black hat. Was accom- panied by a Woman, age about 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair dark, impediment in speech. Had with her a Boy called Teddy, age about 2i years. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. 17.— Bridgend ( County). — For deserting his wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the Common Fund of the Bridgend and Cowbridge Union— BETHNAL HEYCOCK DAVID, age 37, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, right arm deformed at elbow, " B. H. D. W. E. D. and S. A. D." in a ring, heart and cross tattooed left forearm. A haulier. Is a trombone player and belongs to the Glamorgan Artillery Reserve. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 18— Staple Hill ^ County).— For larceny— THOMAS MORRIS, age 17, height 5 ft., com- plexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes dark, nose turned upwards; dress, dark coat and trousers, fancy green tweed vest, round green buttons with white line, rubber collar and front, black tie with white flowers, lace boots. A native of Bedminster. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. * HAMPSHIRE. 19 — Alton ( County). — For deserting his family, leaving them chargeable to the Common Fund of the Alton Union— THOMAS HOLDEN, age 37, height 5 ft. 10J in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eves hazel, cut mark bridge of nose. ZO. — Petersfield ( County). — For em- bezzling 7s. lid. at Liss, 19th November, 1904— FREDERICK ALFRED BRISTOW, age about 32, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and small moustache dark; dress, black diagonal jacket and vest, dark trousers, black bowler hat. A harness maker and saddler; native of Milton, Kent. Absconded 7th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. King, Petersfield. 21 — Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing from his lodgings, a watch ( recovered)— CLAUDE HAWLEY, age 21, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, hair licht brown; dress, light tweed suit, brown boots. A native of Poole. Warrant issued. 22.— Southampton ( Borough).— For em- bezzling £ 3 8s. 9d. — SAMUEL STARES, age 50, height 5 ft- 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, scar about the size of a sixpence on one side of forehead, red and white ensign tattooed on one arm, anchor on other. A cook and baker. Warrant issued. 23.— Southampton ( Borough).— For ob- taining 5s. by false pretences TAYLOR, age 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair dark brown, promi- uent nose; wearing dark clothes, hard hat. He travels the country soliciting orders for clothing, and states that he represents a firm at Reading. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 24 — Leominster ( C" untu1.— For i- t- almg, 7th inst., a brown overcoat, " Morgan, Brecon," on tab, nearly new; 1 dark tweed cap, " Ventair" labelled inside; 1 pair brown kid gloves A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fair, hair light, rather heavy moustache inclined to sandy, red face, prominent nose; dress, light jacket and vest, dark trousers, grey cap, or may be wear- ing the stolen coat and cap. Stated he was a stage carpenter, and that he had been employed in Wales. Information to Supt. Price, Leominster. HERTFORDSHIRE. 25. — Bishops Stortford ( County).— For obtaining a hammer and screwdriver by false pretences, 29th ult.— A MAN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark sallow, long nose, rather pointed, hair and mous tache dark, stoops slightly; dress, dark suit and cap, jersey. Appearance of an engine driver. He calls on shopkeepers, states he is employed as an engine driver in the neighbourhood, and that his employer sent him for the articles. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Martin, Bishops Stortford. 26.— Hertford ( County).— For stealing, 5th inst., a red roan pony ( rig.) 13 hands, chipped knees, white star on forehead, small hole in fore- head, clipped except legs, medium mane and tail; a set of black leather harness, silver mounts, square turrets, chain ends to traces; and a spring cart, painted dark green, picked out light green, recently varnished, wheel caps supposed plain, con- taining two rugs ( 1 mackintosh, other woollen plaid), nose bag; steel lined whip, pair of lamps, oval glass, brass mounts— A MAN, age 23 to 27, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, complexion pale, clean shaved, sore on left side of upper lip; wearing dark clothing. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. KENT. 27.— Canterbury ( County).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings to the value of 4s. lid. by false pretences— ENOCK GRICE, age about 32, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, high cheek bones, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes brown, is a good singer; dress, old blue jacket, brown riding breeches, brown leather leggings, brown boots, motor cap, wore thin gold wire ring on one little finger. Appearance of a groom. A native of Snodland. He hired a coach- house at a public house at Hackington, and represented that he required it for a motor car, which was being forwarded by rail to the nearest station. Warrant issued. A labourer; native of Birmingham. Sentenced at Salop Assizes, 25th February, 1902, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny. Licenced 6th June, 1904. C 61. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sargent, Chatham. 29.— Dover \ Boruuyt\).— For stealing £, 30— FREDERICK ARMSTRONG, age 19, height 5 ft. 4 in., hair and moustache dark, eyes hazel, scar on forehead and on right knee; dress, blue serge suit and cap. Had with him a greenish striped coat and trousers, and a fancy green vest with brass buttons. A private of the 2nd East Kent Regiment. Native of Woolwich. Was em- ployed in the Officers' Mess. Absconded 7th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Knott, Dover. 30.-- Gravesend ( Borough).— For stealing from their lodgings, 8th inst., 2 lady's silver key- less watches; 2 pairs boots ( lady's) sizes 3 and 4, lined with scarlet silk; 1 pair of lace shoes ( lady's), size 4; 1 lady's black jacket, short, with deep silk collar; 1 large brown tin hat- box; 1 Holland skirt; 1 white counterpane; several night dresses; 4 blouses ( 2 white and 2 grey, honeycomb); 1 pink flannelette night dress; 1 dark brown fur tam- o'shanter hat; 1 silk umbrella; 1 dark suit, with blue and grey stripe; 1 pair of dark trousers with small white stripe; 1 fancy vest, red, with green check, brass buttons; 1 pair of boots, box calf, size 7; 1 small brown hand bag; 1 dark overcoat, " J. Rose" on tab; 2 gold pins, each set with 8 stones, one missing from each ; 1 red silk handker- chief; 12 ties ( various colours); 1 lambswool under- vest JOHNSON ( supposed false), age 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ill., complexion, hair, slight moustache and eyes dark, bald on top; wearing blue melton overcoat, light cap.— MRS. JOHN- SON ( supposed false), age 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light, eyes ( large) blue, impediment in speech ; wearing black jacket, black sailor hat. Accompanied by her Son, age 2i years.— MRS. SMITH ( supposed false), age 24, height 5 ft., hair and eyes dark, round face, impediment in speech; dress, black jacket, black skirt, brown sable fur, black sailor hat They are no doubt wearing some of the stolen pro- perty. LANCASHIRE. 31 .— Baoup ( County). — For stealing £ 10 15s. 6d.— JAMES ENTWISTLE, age about 34, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, bloated face, hair and moustache light, slightly bow legged, of good address. An insurance agent, recently cm- ployed as a collector. Is fond of horse racing. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bacup. 32.— Bury 1 County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Ains- worth, between 30th October and 25 th ult. — JOHN PASQUALL, age 23, height 5 ft., bow legged, stout build, complexion fresh, hair ( curly) and moustache dark, leans forward when walking. Has been employed by a pot dealer at Bolton. Warrant issued. 33.— Bury ounty).— For being concerned with 2 men in custody charged with obtaining money by false pretences ( selling margarine as butter)— THOMAS FLYNN ( has several aliases), age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, Roman nose, hair ( sometimes frizzed or curled, brushed up in front) and eyebrows black, clean shaved, two upper front teeth show signs of decay, one left upper tooth missing, of smart appearance; dress, navy blue jacket suit, soft felt hat. He was one of a gang who opened butter shops under various names in different parts of the country and sold margarine as butter. He has also been summoned for 3 different offences under the Food and Drugs' Act, for hearing at Bury 22nd inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Noblett, Bury. 34.— Sal ford ( Borough).— For failing to re- port— Supervisee JOHN DOWNES, alias JOHN DYSON, JAMES FIELDING, WILLIAM DANIELS, HERBERT THOMPSON, HENRY WALKER, JOHN WILSON, and WILLIAM DYSON, Office No. 2401- 00, age 46, height 5 ft. 4J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, mole each cheek. A labourer; native of Sheffield. Sentenced at Sheffield City Sessions, 18th April, 1895, to 7 years penal servitude and 5 years supervision for larceny ( person). Licence twice revoked.
