All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprhension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to IOJ. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. aLTIOHTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen ' property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Pott Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment; and the charges for the insertion of the same wUl be given on application. LEA, age 27 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, rather thin features, prominent nose, heavy moustache dark; dress, dark lounge suit, bowler hat, some- times wears a brownish overcoat. He obtains money orders, and by a chemical process alters the amount to a larger sum, then calls on jewellers, selects articles, and in payment tenders one of the orders for more than the amount of purchase, and receives the balance. The orders he used here were issued at Edgware Road, London. He is also wanted for stealing a gold- filled keyless " Peerless " watch, No. 207934, 21st ult., at Ilfracombe, where he gave the name of ROBERT STEVENS, alias JOHN or R. LEA, and addresses at Edgbaston, Birmingham, and Talbot Road, London, N. Information to the Chief Constable, Court House, Exeter. A painter; native of Southampton. Is a deserter from the 2nd Devon- shire Regiment. Easterby, Burham," on off side— WALTER HUNTLEY, age about 30, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair black, clean shaved; dress, black jacket and vest, light tweed trousers, dark cap, heavy lace boots. A labourer; supposed a native of Dover. Had in his posses- sion a great coat, " Private G. Fox, 2nd V. B. Queen's, 4069," stamped thereon. Is accompanied by his wife, 2 children, and a collie dog. Warrant issued. 23.— Dover ( Borough).— For embezzling £ 2 12s. 6d.— CHARLES BECK, age 18, looks younger, height about 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, full face, arched eyebrows; dress, dark grey jacket, brown trousers, cycling shirt, red mixture tie, cap. Ab- sconded 28th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dover. 24.— Folkestone ( Borough).— For obtain- ing, 30th ult., £ 10 by a worthless cheque, No. '• T/ B 58268," on the London City and Midland Bank, Charing Cross Branch, drawn by Frank Curzon in favour of H. E. Flint— A MAN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 10 in., well- built, complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved, of good address; dress, dark coat and trousers, hard felt hat, carried a light overcoat, wearing gold ring. The cheque was taken from a cheque book stolen in London some months ago. He obtains from servants the names of their employers, also the names of tradesmen with whom they deal, and states that he is a butler or valet to a person in London, who is about to reside in the neighbour- hood, then fills in the cheques, usually for £ 10, which he asks tradesmen to cash, representing that he is either a son or a nephew of a customer in whose favour the cheque is drawn. Supposed identioal with Man, Case No. 43, 2nd inst. Warrant issued. 25.— Folkestone ( Borough).— For stealing, 16th ult., a lady's silver watch and gold chain ( re- covered) ; 1 pair lady's black cashmere button boots, size 5, nearly new; 1 blue sateen blouse, flowers and white lace across front, slate coloured lining BATES, age 45 to 47, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes blue, wears glasses, front upper teeth missing; dress, mauve blouse, white insertion across front and arms, black sailor hat, had with her a black dress bodice and light skirt. An ironer; stated she came from Manchester. May call at Salvation Army Homes for assistance. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Folkestone. 26.— Margate ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 10, by false pretences— JOHN DINMORE, age 36 or 38, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion swarthy, hair and moustache black A caterer or chef. LANCASHIRE. 27.— Liverpool ( City).— For failure to re- port— Licence- holder SAMUEL MORGAN, alias JOHN DOCHERTY and THOMAS McLAUGH- LAN, Office No. 548- 03, age 36, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes brown, scar bridge of nose, left of head, and 3rd left finger. A labourer; native of Middlesbrough. Sentenced at York Assizes, 20th July, 1898, to 6 years penal servitude for robbery with violence. Licenced 11th April last. Y. 256. He left this city 6th August last by boat for Belfast, but failed to report there. May be dealt with wherever found. 28.— Liverpool ( City).— For obtaining £ 47 by false pretences, 19th May last— G. W. SAMUEL, age 55 to 60, height 5 ft. 5 in., rather slight build, complexion sallow, thin face, promi- nent nose, beard and moustache grey, of Jewish appearance; dress, black morning suit, silk hat. An oil merchant's traveller. He obtained the above amount by a worthless acceptance. Ab- sconded 23rd ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Detective Department, Liverpool. 29.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For abandon- ing her child, age 9 weeks— MARY or POLLY BOLSOVER, age 21, height about 5 ft., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey or brown; dress, grey mixture tweed skirt and three- quarter length jacket, flowered blouse, Tam- p'- shanter, or large white straw hat with pink flowers and pink and white ribbon. May seek employment at registry offices. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Derham, Black- pool. 30 — Oldham ( Borough).— For stealing £ 40 — JOSEPH SANDIFORI), age 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, red cheeks, hair light brown, thin in places at back of head Queen Victoria, peacock, woman, & c., tattooed nn both arms; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, blue- black cord trousers, green plaid cap, heavy lace boots, may be wearing a blue silk muffler. A native of Oldham. He recently stated his inten- tion of proceeding to Canada. Sometimes visits Carnarvonshire. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Turner, Oldham. May be accompanied by A WOMAN, age 25, hair ( worn on forehead and over ears) dark, complexion sallow, oval features, short snub nose; dress, blue costume, faced with white, deep lace collar, large black hat with black feather. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. 32.— Glasgow ( City).— For obtaining by fraud, 14th and 18th July last, 460 shares ( value about £ 2,000) in the British South African Com- pany and the East Rand Proprietary Mines, Limited— WILLIAM COOK, age 26 to 30, height 5 ft. 6| in., complexion pale, hair light, clean shaved, eyes blue, slightly knock- kneed; dress, usually dark tweed jacket suit and black hard felt hat. A clerk. May endeavour to leave the coun- try. Absconded 26th ult, accompanied by his WIFE, age 26, height about 5 ft. 4 in., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair light, eyes blue, and 2 children, viz., a girl, age 2 years; and a boy, age 6 weeks.
