All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them. should he addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one Issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment mist be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will he inserted at a cost of lo « . per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- gra]) h or sketch of a stolen article. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must he guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of suck person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ^. TIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not lets - ftft than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. THE EDITOR. May be found on public works.— CAROLINE JACKSON, alias ROBERTS and KNIGHT ( wife of above), age about 30, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., stout build, complexion and hair ( fringe on forehead) dark, sometimes stammers, clasped hands left forearm, bust of a sailor with " Roberts" above, " Knight " underneath, on left muscle. A painter's labourer ; native of Bristol. Is also suspected of stealing a silver watch and curb pattern chain, with split ring instead of swivel, threepenny and sixpenny piece attached ; 3 gold studs ; 1 9 ct. gold ring with large dark stone, red spots ; 1 silver brooch with bar, 2 birds, 2 hearts and " Mizpah " thereon ; 1 gold earring ; and a razor with black handle. Towers " scratched on inside of outer case ; 1 lady's silver Geneva watch; 1 nickel- plated hunting watch ; and 8s.— A MAN, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light, clean shaved; dress, navy blue jacket suit, dark tie and cap.— A WOMAN, age about 25, complexion fair, hair yellow ; dress, black skirt, short black jacket, black sailor hat with black bow in front, black spotted veil, short black feather boa. Stated they had been employed at Bailey's Show in Yorkshire, that they had come from Leeds and were joining a theatrical company at Newcastle, afterwards proceeding to Scotland. Warrant issued. A spirit merchant's traveller; native of Shropshire. Is believed to be attached to the Manchester district; travels Staffordshire, Derbyshire, and parts of Lancashire and Nottinghamshire. R." in centre, makers Rotherham & Sons, Coventry; 1 9 ct. gold Albert; 1 do. double Albert, links about J in. long, dog link pattern, knot between each link : 1 9 ct. gold medal, chased both sides, about 1} in. long, 1 in. wide; 1 do., one side chased, other plain ( all new)— WILLIAM HAMILL, alias EVANS and DAVIES, age 28, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., strong build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache light, eyes blue, small cut scar back of right forefinger, slight burn mark left knee; dress, greyish dust coat, striped trousers, black bowler hat. An engineer ; native of Blackpool. He obtained the articles on the pretence that they were to be placed before a committee to select from, for a presentation to a choir master. Warrant issued. Hawkins, Aldershot. 17— Bournemouth ( Countxj).— For steal- ing, 23rd ult,, a " Rudge- Whitworth " bicycle, 23 in. frame, Special No. 141469, free wheel, front rim brake, Bowden back brake, V shaped handle bars, Dunlop tyres HARCOURT, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair brown, moustache sandy, lost left arm below elbow ; dress, thick double- breasted jacket, black trousers, wide braid down sides, black bowler hat. About 18 months ago he was travelling with Edison Cinematograph Company. Supposed a native of West Bromwich. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Bournemouth. 18.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For obtain- ing £ 3 by false pretences, 4th inst.— WILLIAM MOORES, age about 34, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion swarthy, high forehead, hair and moustache light brown ; dress, grey coat and vest, dark trousers, check cap, sometimes wears a long dark overcoat and black felt hat. A native of Croydon. Is well known at Hastings, East- bourne, Brighton, Redhill, Lewes and Tunbridge Wells. Warrant issued. 19.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For larceny, 22nd inst.— JACK CARR, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and heavy moustache light brown, eyes blue, cut scar over left eye, boil mark on right jaw ; dress, light tweed jacket, cord trousers, khaki colour guernsey, green neckerchief, black peak cap, nailed boots. Frequents common lodging houses. Is well known at Southampton, Winchester and Salis- bury Plain. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. HUN TINGDONSHIRE. 20.— Norman Cross ( County).— For steal- ing £ 18, at Glatton, 4th inst.— JOHN ROWE, age 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., thin features, prominent nose, hair light brown, moustache ginger, addicted to drink; dress, blue black serge suit and cap, light lace boots, wore a common metal chain with small coins attached. A labourer. Has served in the Lincolnshire Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Allen, Norman Cross, Peterborough. 21.— St. Neots ( County).— For stealing by trick, 13th ult,, a bicycle, " Defiance, made by E. C. Ireland, St. Neots," on head, " Defiance" on front tube, dropped handle bars, rat trap pedals, Brooks's saddle, Garad's components, Moderatum hub— F. ROGERS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fair, moustache light, eyes blue. Usually carries an umbrella and a small handbag. Was employed by a London firm of accountants as a debt collector. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Copping, Huntingdon, or to Inspector Wilson, St. Neots. KENT. 22.— Maidstone ( County).— For stealing 12 fowls ( recovered,)— THOMAS ELDON or HILDEN, age about 55, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to curl) dark, turning grey, side whiskers; dress, dark grey jacket and trousers, dark cap, rather large top with narrow black band of crape. A gipsy. He travels the country wiih a pony and cart. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jessup, County Police Office. Maidstone. LEICES TERSHIRE. 23.— Leicester ( Borough).— For an offence under toe Bankruptcy Act— JOHN JONES, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. lO in., complexion dark, hair, whiskers, and moustache turning grey, walks erect, of good address. An agent in the leather trade. Is well known to officials of the Young Men's Christian Association throughout the Midlands. Absconded 13th ult. Wariant issued. 24 — Leicester ( Borough).— For embezzle- ment, 17th inst.— THOMAS COOPER, a? e 45, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, red face^ slightly pock- marked, hair curly ( turning grey) and moustache dark brown, eyes brown, high forehead ; dress, dark brown suit, black hard felt hat. Has been employed as a seed merchant's traveller. Is well known in the North of England. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Leicester. LINCOLNSHIRE. 25— Boston ( County).— For stealing a cash box containing £ 14— THOMAS HARMEN, alias BOWLING, age about 40, height 5 ft, 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion sallow, of delicate ap pearance, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, mous- tache and eyes dark, short sighted, carries head forward; dress, short black jacket, dark grey trousers, white silk neckerchief, check cap, fawn colour mackintosh, low shoes. Stated he came from Fleetwood, Lanes. Has been employed as an engineer on fishing trawlers. Is fond of playing pianos at public houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Costar, Boston. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 2&.— Pontypool ( County). — For burglary and stealing £ 17 10s., 6th inst. — FRANCIS EVELYN, alias FRANCIS LYNDERS, CECIL WILLIAMS EDWIN TERODE, and TORODE, Office No. 1379- 98, age 34, height 5 ft. 4£ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, large scar right buttock, right of forehead, and several on head, mole left cheek, indistinct tattoo marks both arms, dot back each hand, ring 2nd left finger; dress, dark clothes and overcoat, black hard felt hat, blue silk muffler with red lines. A native of London. ( See Case No. 18, 9th November, 1894.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. James, l'ontypool. MONTGOMER YSHIRE. 27.— Llanidloes ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, a brown mixture waterproof Raglan overcoat, vertical pockets, vents at sides— A MAN, age 26 or 27, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair and moustache dark, eyes light brown; dress, grey serge coat, fancy spotted vest, striped tweed trousers, dark grey peak cap, light boots. Stated that he was the son of a schoolmaster at Birkenhead. He took train to Liverpool, 18th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wil- liams, Newtown. NORFOLK. £ 2 REWARD. 28.— Acle ( County).— For leaving his two children chargeable to the Common Fund of the East and West Flegg Poor Law Incorporation — HENRY BOOTY, age 44, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes dark, slightly bow- legged, turns his toes inwards. A sailor; native of Burgh, St. Margaret. ( See Case No. 37, 21st February last.) Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the Rollesby Union, to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Booty. Information to Supt. Barham, Acle. 29 — Norwich ( City).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— W. STODDART, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion ruddy, blotchy face, hair and moustache ( turning grey, ends pointed) dark brown, addicted to drink; dress, dark brown tweed coat and vest ( flaps to coat pockets), dark grey trousers, white tie, dark blue cap, tan colour boots. A credit draper's traveller ; native of Lockerbie, Dumfries. He calls upon Scotch credit drapers for employ- ment and assistance. Warrant issued. 30.— Norwich [ City).— For stealing ( bailee) a Bilver watch— WALTER ALFRED VOTIEEt, alias WOODS, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown; dress, light colour overcoat, dark suit, black hard hat. A watchmaker; native of Norwich. May seek employment as an insurance or commission agent. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Winch, Norwich. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1902. ' M.— Ayr ( County).— For assault and fraud at Bargour, Manehline, 11th inst. — WILLIAM THOMSON, alias BROWN, MURPHY, SMITH, & c., aq; e 41, height 5 ft. (>£ in., complexion fresh, bair ( bald on top) dark brown ( turning grey), may be growing a beard, speaks with Irish accent, white scar below left elbow and above right wrist, blue scar above right elbow, 4 right toes missing, left little toe amputated, 3 deformed, upper front teeth deficient; dress, small brown check tweed suit, dark grey cap, lace boots. A labourer. He obtains food and lodgings by representing that he is an electrical engineer. Has been previously convicted of fraud ( see Scottish Prison Register, 126- 1901). Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr. LANCASHIRE. £ 100 REWARD. 32.— Manchester ( City).— For stealing, 8th inst., a banker's cheque for £ 717 9s.— WILLIAM STANTON, age 44, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache ginger, lisps slightly ; dress ( supposed), dark grey suit, dark overcoat, black hat. He cashed the WILTSHIRE. .' i.' S.— Swindon ( County). — For obtaining suits of clothing by false pretences, and forgery— ELLIS HALL, age about 34, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., hair and moustache brown, eyes' hazel, small above cheque and received in lieu thereof 10 £ 50 Bank of England notes, Noa. 26171 to 26180, 30 £ 5 do., Nos. 764 to 793, all issued at Man- chester. A cashier ; native of Manchester. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by Messrs. Reiss Bros., Quay Street, Manchester, to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Stanton. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. cross and anchor tattooed on left: forearm, ring tattooed around one of left fingers. Sentenced at Central Criminal Court, 25th June, 1901, to 4 months imprisonment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Robinson, Swindon. On the evening of 24th inst. this man was in one of the principal hotels in this town, and probably noticed a registered letter addressed to a com- mercial traveller at the hotel; subsequently a telephone message was received from Ampthill, Beds, purporting to come from the owner of the letter, requesting the letter be opened and any money therein telegraphed to him. This was done, and when the owner of the letter arrived the fraud was discovered. Licenced 7th December, 1901, and the obligation to report remitted 21st April last. H.," a print petticoat, blue, white, and red stripes, marked " C. Hobbs" in ii k on band, and C. H.." and a piece of felt carpf- t, in brown paper tied with string. The marks " C. H." are in red cotton on tape and sewn on clothing, laundry mark " 4" on clothing. The clothing is of common material and apparently belongs to a domestic servant.
