All announcements for insertion in the POLTCE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. _ 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be liketoise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article, in question to be thereby identified. 1. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of lbs. per portrait, and of 7s. 6' d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 6. LTIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number and as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, mutt, on their apprehension or recovery, at tmce transmit t-> the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than iwon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on applicatum. THE KDITOH. New Scotland Yard. SPECIAL NOTICE. In certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable bis Department to identify a prisoner, the measurements and finger prints being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photo- graph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be required to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. E. MARSHALL, age 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, hair, whiskers and moustache black ( turning grey), eyes brown, limps slightly ; dress, dark jacket suit, black hard felt hat. He calls on engineers, electricians, and others, and represents that he is a farmer, gives orders for work to be done, and obtains small sums to pay his railway fare by stating that he has left his cheque book at home. Warrant issued. 3.— A Division.— For obtaining credit by false pretences— GEOFFREY NICHOLLS, age 20, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair light brown ; wearing dark clothes, light over- coat, hard felt hat, patent lace boots. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 6.— Fenny Stratford [ County). - - For leaving his two children chargeable to the Wins- low Union, 24th ult.— HARRY RIDGWAY, age 48, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion swarthy, hair brown, eyes grey, scar left jaw, impediment in speech, slovenly gait, addicted to drink. A native of Great Harwood. Usually stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lait, Fenny Stratford. CHESHIRE. l.— Middlewich ( County).— For stealing £ 1— ABRAHAM BEIN, age 23, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair light, clean shaved; dress, long black coat, grey vest and trousers, cord cap, light lace boots. A farm labourer ; native of Dublin. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooper, Middlewich. 8— Nantwioh ( County).— For assault, 2nd inst., and stealing £ 10— A MAN, age 40 to 50, height 6 ft., slight build, moustache dark, stoop- ing gait, large feet turns outwards; dress, dark jacket, cord or moleskin trousers, muffler, dark hat. Meredith, Nantwich. $ — Nantwich ( County).— MAN, Case No. 14, 10th inst., not now wanted. 10. — Runcorn ( County). — For office- breaking, 6th inst., at Anderton, and stealing 5s. 9d. and 4 small steel keys— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion, hair and slight moustache dark ; dress, dark coat and vest, light cord trousers, light peak cap, large boots. A labourer; native of Sheffield. Sentenced at Chester Assizes, lst November, 1898, to 5 years penal servitude for larceny. Licenced 2nd August last. I. P. Y. 760. DORSETSHIRE. 12.— Dorchester ( County).— For an in- decent assault— HENRY DENECY, age 22, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, face and neck red, hair brown, eyes hazel, name ( supposed H. Denecy) tattooed on one arm ; dress, light coat, sleeve vest, dark trousers and cap, wears a silver ring ( broken). A native of Bedminster, Bristol. Warrant issued. 13.— Dorchester ( County).— For neglect- ing his children in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering— GEORGE HOLLOWAY, age 38, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, white patch of hair back of head ; dress, dark overcoat, brown trousers. Warrant issued. 17.— Southampton ( Borough).— For lar- ceny ADAMS or HILL, age about 27, height 5 ft! 5 in., complexion fair, hair brown, moustache light; dress, black morning coat, light trousers, cap. lace boots. HEREFORDSHIRE. — RoSS ( County).— For stealing, 8th inst., a lady's gold watch, gold hands; 1 long gold watch chain, small links; and 10s.— ALBERT PRESBURY, age about 20, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark sallow, hair ( parted in centre), and slight moustache dark; dress, black jacket suit, black bow tie, black hard felt hat, boots with rubber at heels, carried a black stick with silver band near handle. Stated that he was a grocer's assistant, and a native of Worcester. He took lodgings, 6th inst., committed the larceny and decamped 8th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Ross. KENT. 19.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For stealing ( b- ilee). abicycle( recovered)— ALBERT HENRY STRATTON, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion dark ; dress, navy blue suit, sometimes wears overalls. Has been em- ployed as an electrical engineer's labourer. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. 20.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For stealing a barrow ( recovered)— FRANK CRIPPS, age about 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion dark, hair grey, stubby whiskers and moustache black; dress, blue jacket and vest, old cord trousers, brown soft felt hat, wrapper. A rag and bone gatherer. Stays at common lodging houses. Is well known in East Kent. Absconded 6th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Jones, Ramsgate. LANARKSHIRE. 21.— Glasgow ( City).— For obtaining £ 20, by a forged Savings Bank warrant, 2nd inst.— CHARLES BURTON, age 60, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, nearly white, stiff gait; dress, coarse black jacket and vest, grey trousers, colonial shirt with turn- down collar, dark blue scarf, dark peak cap, lace boots. A miner. Native of Lancashire. Has been employed in various colliery districts in Scotland. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE. 22 — Bolton ( County).— For stealing £ 1 10s„ 13th inst., at Farnworth— A MAN, age about 22 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., rather stout build, slightly bowlegged, complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, slight cut on chin ; dress, pepper and salt colour suit, red knot tie, with imitation gold pin, dark green plaid cap, light lace boots. He took lodgings and stated that he was engaged at a local theatre. Information to Supt. Leeming, Bolton. 23 — Bury ( County).— For obtaining a horse by false pretences, 18th ult.— A MAN, who gave the name of C. ADAMS, age 38, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and full moustache dark. He attends fairs, obtains horses, usually gets them away without payment, and afterwards advertises them for sale. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Noblett, Bury. OXFORDSHIRE. 24.— Witney ( County).— For obtaining £ 300 by false pretences at Bampton, 23rd March and 8th September, 1900— WILLIAM ATTWOOD RIGDEN, age 43, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) sandy, may be wearing a heavy sandy moustache, takes short, quick steps ; dress, usually grey suit, hard felt hat. A solicitor ; native of Bampton. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. 25.— Witney ( County). — For highway robbery, 5th inst., and stealing a gold curb brooch ; 1 green leather purse, silver mounted, containing about 2s.— TWO MEN, lst, tall, com- plexion and hair ( turning grey) dark ; wearing dark clothes, muffler, peak cap. 2nd, short, complexion fair, hair light; dress, dark jacket, old white trousers, muffler, peak cap. Had the appearance of tramps. Information to Supt. Hawtin, Witney. 26.— Oxford ( City). — For obtaining by a worthless cheque, 7 diamond rings ( 1 claw set, nearly 5J carats, white with small black speck near centre ; 1 large yellow stone, double split setting; 1 do. with larger head to setting; 1 3 stone half- hoop, white stones ; 1 set line diamond and pearl, transversely, ring twisted at setting; 2 single stone, small white diamonds) ; all second- hand, the 3 last are ladies' ; and for obtaining by fraud, a " Maddison" safety bicycle, reversible handle bars, Grappler tyres, Wheeler saddle, no brake— BARON JULES MEREY, alias CAMIL- TON, age 22, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion dark, hair black, clean shaved, good teeth ; dress, dark suit with white stripes, light cap, brown cycling shoes. Appearance of a waiter. He stayed at a first- class hotel, left . behind a black bowler hat, size 6£, purchased at 118 and 120 New Oxford Street, W. C., wears a massive gold curb chain with large coin as pendant. He left Oxford, 6th inst.; had with him the above machine, which he will no doubt dispose of. Warrant issued. A gardener ; native of Ashby- de- la- Zouch. He represented that he was an advance agent for a theatrical company. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. ROGERS, age 29, height 5 ft 8 or 9 in., complexion sallow, hair, moustache ( turned up at ends), and eyes dark, turns his feet outwards ; dress, dark brown jacket and vest ( double- breasted), dark trousers, black hard hat, lace boots. A clerk ; native of Wolverhampton. Is fond of representing him- self as a German. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Price, Tettenhall, Wolver- hampton. SUFFOLK ( East). 29.— Lowestoft ( County).— For embezzling £ 2 6s. 4d.— JOHN FREDERICK GIDNEY, age 32, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark ; dress, dark suit, may be wearing breeches and gaiters. A milk seller ; supposed a native of or near Norwich. Is believed to have been an officer's servant in the Royal Artillery. Absconded 9th inst. May be accompanied by his wife, age 29, and two children, one age 5, other 2, who left same date. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Shipp, Lowestoft. SUSSEX ( East). 30.- Hastings ( Borough).— For stealing, 8th inst., a nearly new " Roulette " bicycle, cross frame, " No. 1475 " on head tube. Clincher tyres, front rim brake, rubber pedals, 26 in. frame, 58 roller chain, fiat handle bar, pump attached, with plated steel clips — WILLIAM KING^ age about 28, height about 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, hair and slight moustache light; dress, dark lounge coat and vest, dark striped trousers! dark cap, brown boots. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. WILTSHIRE. SI.— Swindon ( County).— For stealing, 7th inst., a stylographic pen and long silver watch guard, small curb pattern, broken about 6 in. from swivel, fastened with wire, a lion shilling and pencil case attached— HENRY JAMES, age 30 to 35, height 6 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, supposed dark moustache, full eyes, of military appearance; dress, black jacket and vest, grey trousers, flannel cricketing shirt, black bowler hat, shoes. He took lodgings, committed the larceny and decamped. May be found at common lodging houses or casual wards. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Robinson, Swindon. WORCES TERSHIRE. 32.— Redditch ( County).— For failing to appear to a summons for stealing, 27th ult, cycle fittings to the value of £ 5— GEORGE SKIDMORE, age 48 to 50, height 5 ft. 10 in., stout build, walks erect, complexion fresh, inclined to be dark, hair dark brown, eyes grey; dress, old dark suit, old blue pilot overcoat with velvet collar, black hard hat.
