All announcement! for insertion in the POLICE GAZUTTB, and all communicationrelating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OP THE POLICE GAZETTE. NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S/ VV. 2. Particulars concerning persons u- hose apprehension is sought trill he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are su fficient to enable action to be taken upon them, by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article, in question to he thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of person* whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property trill be inserted at a cost of 15*. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. LTIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not lets rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number and as far at practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Pott Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the tame will be given on application. E. R. HENRY, Editor. NOTICE. A milk carrier. Absconded 2nd inst. Warrant issued. 6.— R Division.— For attempting to obtain money by fraud— WILLIAM MITCHELL, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair light, turning grey, eyes blue ; wearing dark clothes, high silk bat. Warrant issued. 7.— S Division.— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences— JOHN WALKER, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes dark grey, has a habit of swinging right arm ; wearing brown Raglan overcoat, boots with pointed toes. He obtained the above sum by sending a telegram in the name of another person. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BUCKINGHA MS HI RE. 10.— High Wycombe { Borough).— F or stealing a bicycle ( recovered)— NORMAN WEBB, age 21, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, slight moustache, eyes brown, forearms very short, cannot raise hands above head, may have abscess scars on sides, walks quickly, well educated; dress ( sup- posed), blue serge suit, black tie, grey cap. A clerk. Was a Lieutenant of the Church Lads Brigade. Absconded 28th ult. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Head Constable Sparling, High Wycombe. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 11— Cambridge ( Borough). — For em- bezzlement, between 20th May and 31st August last— SAMUEL STANTON, age about 60, height 5 ft. 10 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, full beard and moustache ( turning grey), short thick neck; dress, grey jacket suit, light grey overcoat, black square felt or silk hat. A bank clerk. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. 12.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 29th August last, a " Popular Riley," Brooks's saddle, front brake, no mudguards— CHARLES PEARSON, alias BURROWS, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion and hair dark, eyes brown, pimples on face, speaks with Yorkshire accent; dress, grey jacket suit, black soft felt hat, lace boots. He represents that he is the son of the Clerk of the Peace of Cambridge. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Holland, Cam- bridge. CARNARVONSHIRE. 13.— Conway ( County).— For obtaining £ 7 10s. by a forged cheque— MORRIS CORNELIUS PAUL, alias JOHN FORD, a German, age 27, height 5 ft. 3 in., hair black, clean shaved, eyes dark, speaks good English; dress, blue serge suit. Has been employed at Manchester as a German correspondent. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rees, Conway. CHESHIRE. 1 - l.— Nantwich ( County).— For being con- cerned with ARTHUR LAMBERT, in custody, charged with stealing £ 9 Is. 4d., 21th ult., from a Post Office at Crewe ( see Case No. 58, 1st inst.)— TWO MEN, 1st, age about 19, height 5 ft, 4 or 5 in., complexion and hair dark, of smart appearance ; dress, dark grey suit, red tie, dark cap, tan colour boots. 2nd, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, thin features, rather broad fore- head, clean shaved, of smart appearance ; dress, dark blue or black suit, dark tie, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Information to Supt. Meredith, Nantwich. CUMBERLAND. 15. Cocker mouth ( County).— For desert- ing his family, leaving them chargeable to the Common Fund of the Cockermouth Union— JOSEPH CAIN, age 35, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, sharp features. A mason; native of Cockermouth. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Graham, Cockermouth. DENBIGHSHIRE. 16— D enbigh ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) a watch ( recovered)— JAMES COOPER, age 30 to 32, height about 5 ft. 8 in., muscular build, complexion fresh, hair and heavy mous- tache light, scar across abdomen ; dress, light jacket and cap, light cord trousers, strong lace boots, may be wearing a cord vest. A tramping farm labourer. Supposed a native of Cockermouth. Has served in the Army. Absconded 3rd ult. Warrant issued. 17.— Denbigh ( County).— On suspicion of stealing, 1st inst., at Colwyn Bay, a pair of boots ( recovered) and a black cloth overcoat, side pockets, ticket pocket with flap, " Hope Brothers, Ludgate Hill," on tab— JOHN STRICKLAND, age 22, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, thin face, hair brown, may be wearing a slight light brown moustache, addicted to drink ; dress, dark cloth coat and vest, grey trousers and cap. A native of Liverpool. Has l> een employed as a railway and hotel porter. Warrant issued. 18. — Denbigh ( County).— For obtaining food, lodgings, and 3s. 7£ d. by false pretences, 2nd and 4th inst., at Ruthin STEVENSON, age about 24, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved, eyes brown, scar right jaw, hole left do., right hand bandaged ; wearing khaki uniform and helmet (" N. S. W. L." in blue pencil thereon), top boots. A native of Liver- pool ; was convicted in the name of William Frank, at Carnarvon Assizes, 10th January, 1898, of a similar offence. Warrant issued. Jones, Denbigh. 19.— Wrexham ( County). — For stealing, 24th ult., a silver English lever watch, No. 31972, " W 28 " scratched inside case, and £ 8 10s.— A MAN, who gave the name of ARTHUR WILSON, age 2l or 22, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, long features, cheeks sunken, hair and slight moustache light, eyes grey or blue, 1 tooth deficient in upper jaw, bust of man back right forearm, marks back left forearm ; is fond of horseracing ; dress, old dark coat and vest, cord trousers, dark blue muffler with white stripes, dark peak cap, strong lace boots. Appearance of a labourer. Supposed a native of Birmingham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Wrexham. DERBYSHIRE. 20.— Chesterfield ( County).— For obtain- ing money by false pretences, at Grassmoor, 22nd June last— GEORGE WAIT, age 42, height 6 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, left elbow deformed. A traveller ; native of London. He calls upon publicans and trades- men, and states that he will advertise their names, & c., in an almanack. Previously convicted at Boston, Doncaster, and Eckington. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Faulkner, County Police Office, Chesterfield. DEVONSHIRE. 21.— Exeter ( County).— For arson, at Chaw- leigh, 14th ult.— ROBERT LUCAS, age 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, wart over right eye and on right thumb, 2 scars back of left leg, has varicocele; dress, light coat and cap, cord trousers. A tramping labourer ; native of Bagber, Dorset. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. ESSEX. 22.— Romford ( County).— For deserting his wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the Guardians of Romford Union, 2nd ult.— HENRY SHARPE, age 45, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; dress, dark jacket, grey vest and trousers, black bowler hat. A journalist. Warrant issued. 23.— Romford ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Hornchurch, 6th inst., a lady's 18 ct. gold double bottom English lever watch, No. 6176, open face, gold dial chased with roses and tulips, steel hands, maker " Archibald Haswell, Elizabeth Street, Eaton Square," a lady's long gold chain with very small links, attached— A MAN, who gave the name of STACEY, age about 50, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair, whiskers and moustache ( cut short) turning grey, eyes blue grey, of good address; dress, black jacket, dark grey vest and trousers, black tie with coloured stripes, black silk wrapper, dark cap. He represented himself as a naval pensioner, and stated he had been employed as a steward on the P. & O. boats. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Creasy, Romford. 24.— Colchester ( Borough).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences— HORACE BEER, alias WILLIAM SMITH, age about 30, height 6 ft., stout build, complexion pale, hair ( bald on top) light brown ; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, light check trousers, brown overcoat with black band on left arm. A brick- layer's labourer ; native of Clacton- on- Sea. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Coombs, Col- chester. FORFARSHIRE. 25.— Dundee ( City).— For obtaining board, lodgings, and 10s., by false pretences, and uttering a forged cheque, thereby obtaining £ 7 18s. 9d.— WILLIAM A. TRYTHALL, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and slight moustache light, large nose, usually wears glasses ; dress, yellowish tweed suit, black bowler hat, carried a small brown leather hand- bag. A commercial traveller, lately employed by a cycle company at Wolverhampton, Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dundee. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 26.— staple Hill ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), £ 1 6s. and 2 pawntickets, 2nd inst., at Kingswood— ALFRED or ALBERT DRAPER, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache brown, burn scar left side of face; dress, black coat, light trousers, black hard felt hat. A shoemaker; native of Cirencester. Had in his possession a light coat and vest. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Cooke, Staple Hill. HAMPSHIRE. 27.— Gosport ( County).— For stealing, 4th inst., 2 suits of clothes ( 1 a dark grey, nearly new; 1 a grey cloth, green shade with small brown stripe forming squares) ; 1 light striped cap; 1 black do.; 1 blue muffler with yellow stripes ; 1 pair pants, yellow and red stripes ; 1 pair of giey stockings— J. HARRIS, age 23, height 5 ft. in., complexion dark, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar left instep and back of scalp, lion, flag and anchor tattooed on chest. A ship's fireman.— D. MAHER, age 19j, height 5 ft. 6^- in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown. A fitter. Supposed wearing the stolen clothes, military shirts and boots. Both are deserters from the Rifle Brigade. 28. — Gosport ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle ( recovered)— WILLIAM, alias WALTER HUNTLEY, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 4 in.; dress, dark jacket, green cord trousers. A general labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Silver, Gosport. 2— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing from bis lodgings, 22nd ult., a gold signet ring, set white stone ; 1 lady's gold ring ( cracked), set black diamond, oval shape ; 1 wedding ring, set garnet, cracked and repaired— EDWARD STEWART, alias ALFRED SCOTr, MOORE, and E. SWIFT, age 26 to 28, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair brown, short moustache light, long thin face, sunken cheeks ; dress, grey morning coat and trousers, chocolate colour fancy vest with red spots, black bow tie with white spots, black hard felt hat. A street musician. Warrant issued. 30— Southampton ( Borough).— For leav- ing his wife and family chargeable to the Common Fund of the Southampton Incorporation, 14th September last— TELFORD CHARLES FIELD, age 36, height about 6 ft., complexion fair, small sharp features, hair ( thick and wavy) dark brown, eyes brown. A yacht builder ; native of Hamp- shire. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 31.— Ledbury ( County).— For stealing £ 62, 15th ult.— FREDERICK NUNN, age 55, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair ( short) and eyes grey, clean shaved, of military appearance; dress, grey suit, brown overcoat, black hat, sometimes wears knickers and yellow stockings. A farm bailiff; native of Cambridge. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Phillips, Ledbury. HER TFORDSHIRE. 32.— Bishop's Stortford ( County).— For absconding with workhouse clothing, 12th inst., and for wilful damage— ALBERT WOOD, age 28, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and short moustache dark ; dress, light cord suit, black soft felt hat. A native of Newmarket. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Foster, Bishop's Stortford. KENT. £ 1 REWARD. W.— Ashford ( County).— For neglecting to maintain his 2 children, leaving them chargeable to the Common Fund of the West Ashford Union — ARTHUR WEBB, age 47, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) brown, turn- ing grey, eyes hazel ; dress, light brown jacket, cheek trousers, blue cloth cap. A travelling tailor ; native of Tunbridge Wells. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the above Union to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Webb. Information to Supt. Bailey, Ashford. ESSEX. ib.— Saffron Walden { County). — For deserting his wife and children, leaving jjthem chargeable to the common fund of the Saffron Walden Poor Law Union— WILLIAM THOMAS CROUCH, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion ruddy, thin features, hair brown, clean shaved, walks erect; dress, supposed new green and grey mixture check tweed suit ( jacket double breasted and square cut), nearly new blue beaver overcoat with velvet collar, black hard felt hat. A coachman. May be accompanied by a woman, age 26, short, complexion pale, thin features, walks rather lame ; dress, black skirt, black three- quarter jacket, black sailor hat, trimmed with crape. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Pryke, Saffron Walden. LANCASHIRE. 36.— Wigan { County).— For stealing Postal Orders, value £ 6 6s., at Hindley, 28th September last, and for obtaining credit by false pretences, lst ult.— DOCTOR JAMES JOSEPH DEIGH- TON, PATRICK DEIGHTON O'DONNELL or BARROW, age 35, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, hair black, both arms tattooed, including skull and cross- bones on one, also tattooed on back and chest; usually wears black frock coat, silk hat.
