Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of > wt less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is ill force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. LTIOKTS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to he apprehended or of stolen property bear a number and US far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE ( IAZETTE, mutt, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the. next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from sucli publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than iwon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition iwt later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on oiu: side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. The aid of the Metropolitan Police is frequently sought by other Police Forces to make inquiries respecting the antecedents of prisoners under re mand, and such inquiries often result in identi- fying accused persons as being old offenders. But, in many cases, the time allowed for such inquiries is so brief that effect cannot be given to the request for information or that it can be com- plied with only in a perfunctory manner, and at great inconvenience. The' Editor would therefore suggest, in the interest of the Provincial Police Forces, that jour clear days, at least, should be allowed in cases of the kind, to complete the inquiries asked for.
