All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should he addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. Ill all cases where a reward is offered, the mime and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15*. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every annouiwcmcnt, if for the apprehension of a person, must he guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent: and, if the name of such person is required to he inserted and no warrant is in fierce against him, the requisition must he signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. TI OX S. 7. A nnouncements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not lest rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as fur as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in ad ranee, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. E. B. HENBY, Editor. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police the Photographs and descrip- tive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. DEVONSHIRE. 9.— Ex. eter ( County). — For non- payment of maintenance arrears— CHARLES DRAY, age 48, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair ( curly and slightly bald on top) and moustache brown. A waiter. Is believed to be in London. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. 10.— Exeter ( City).— For conspiracy and fraud— JOHN HANCOCK ( supposed false), age 55 to 60, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark, whiskers and mous- tache turning grey ; dress, long black frock coat, black trousers and vest, black hat. Supposed a native of London. He represents himself as a retired hop merchant. — CHARLES ADAMS ( supposed false), age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair light brown, moustache and slight side whiskers brown, very talkative ; dress, dark coat and vest, grey trousers, blue overcoat, grey soft felt hat, usually carries a crook stick. Supposed a native of London. Both appeared to have a large sum of money in their possession. They attend auction sales and markets, obtain horses, & c., and decamp without paying for same. Hancock left here on 13th inst,, supposed with a bay mare about 15 hands, white star on forehead, a set of brass mounted harness, and a chocolate colour trap, red stripes. Adams left the following morning with 2 horses, lst, a chestnut mare, white face; 2nd, a black horse, R. H. A. stamped on forefeet, Warrant issued. Supposed identical with Kathleen O'Malley, Case 2681, Habitual Criminal Register, 1899. Bailey, At- hford. 28.— Canterbury ( County).— For stealing a telescope with 4 slides, 2 or 3 scratches on first slide, covered with black leather ; 1 silver curb pattern watch chain, a fourpenny piece dated 1S64. 1 franc piece, and a Dutch coin attached— ROBERT JOSEPH RICH, age 23, height 5 ft. 6| in., complexion fresh, hair, rather heavy mou- stache, and eyes brown, second left toe deficient, clasped hands and heart tattooed on left forearm, tattoo murks on right forearm. A carpenter; native of Chelmsford. Has been previously con- victed. Is a deserter from the Royal Marines, at Deal, which he joined in the name of Leonard Prior. L." on blinkers; and a gig, body painted black, red wheels and underworks, picked out with broad and fine black lines, blue cloth box seats, rope mat, whip, drab waterproof rug— TWO MEN, named COLLINS ( 1 age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., hair ( long) dark, clean shaved ; wearing dark clothes and skull cap). Both stated they were commercial travellers. Warrant issued. LANCASHIRE. 33.— Chorley ( County).— For stealing a black vest, diagonal pattern ; 1 red flannel singlet, nearly new, '- Bradley" inside collar; 2 white cotton antimacassars, fringe on ends of both; 1 white silk handkerchief, jockey cap, horseshoe and whip worked thereon— ELIZABETH JONES, age 45 to 50, complexion fair, hair light, eyes grey, cut on right side of upper lip, 2 upper front teeth missing ; dress, threequarter double- breasted black jacket, brown skirt trimmed black braid, black hat trimmed black muslin and feathers, black canvas shoes. Frequents common lodging- houses. Warrant issued. 34. — Chorley ( County).— For stealing a watch ( recovered) — CRAVEN BROADBEXT, alias J. JONES, age 20, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes ( blind right, with white film over) blue ; dress, old black jacket suit, tan boots partly blacked. A native of Bradford. Usually stays at Boys' Homes. Information to Supt. Norris, Chorley. 35.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 10 bv faUe pretences, 16th inst. — ETHEL ANNIE THOMPSON, alias ELIZABETH TOMBS, age about 32, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., stout build, complexion fair, long features, hair light; wearing light colour short tight fitting jacket, white sailor hat with black baud. Is accompanied by a man ( supposed her husband), age about 38, height 5ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved ; dress, light blue grey jacket suit and cap ; had with them a female child, age about 8 months, and 2 portmanteaus. NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. 36- Northampton ( Bnro » gh) — For ob- taining £ 7 10s. by a fictitious cheque on the W ilts and Dorset Banking Co., Ltd., Plymouth Branch, 21st inst.— REGINALD AVELING, age about 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., rather stout build, hair ( bald on top) grey, clean shaved ; dress, navy blue double- breasted jacket suit, dark peak cap. He represented that he was a Lieutenant of the Navy on 3 months leave, cashed the above cheque, which was afterwards returned through the Bank marked " no account." Warrant issued. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 37.— A Division.— For obtaining two trunks containing jewellery and clothing, by a forged order— WINIFRED BLACKBURN, age 19, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion, hair and eyes dark, snub nose, well educated, speaks French and German fluently. A good pianist. Stated she was a native of Huddersfield. May seek employment as lady's maid. Supposed previously convicted and wanted elsewhere.
