The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen projtcrty to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the 10. Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than iwon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written, on one side of the puper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. Supposed a native of London. He represents himself as a retired hop merchant. — CHARLES ADAMS ( supposed false), age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair light brown, moustache and slight side whiskers brown, very talkative ; dress, dark coat and vest, grey trousers, blue overcoat, grey soft felt hat, usually carries a crook stick. Supposed a native of London. Both appeared to have a large sum of money in their possession. They attend auction sales and markets, obtain horses, & c., and decamp without paying for same. Hancock left here on 13th inst., supposed with a bay mare about 15 hands, white star on forehead, a set of brass mounted harness, and a chocolate colour trap, red stripes. Adams left the following morning with 2 horses, 1st, a chestnut mare, white face; 2nd, a black horse, R. H. A. stamped on forefeet. Warrant issued. SPECIAL NOTICE. In certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the measurements and finger prints being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photo- graph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be required to complete the identification, the cost will > be charged to the Police Force interested.
