T I O 3V S - Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not lets rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and. us far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or reeocery. at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement trill he wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so ax to be rcceircd not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. SPECIAL NOTICE. In certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the measurements and finger prints being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photo- graph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be required to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested.
