All announcement for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken uvon them bu another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. ;>. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15i. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per plwto- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the mime of such person is rig u I red to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the • use may be. LTIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on tlu- ir apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any aniuninceniciit will > r wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later th it noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied, by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. SPECIAL NOTICE. In certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the measurements and finger prints being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photo- graph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be required to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT l.— F Division.— For stealing a lady's long gold neckchain, small links, each composed of 3 strands of fine wire, George III. guinea attached ; 1 lady's gold ring, set large single stone, sunk star setting; 1 gold horseshoe brooch, set 4 rubies and white sapphire, whip across, Indian work— JOHANN BREEMER or BREMER, a German, age 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair ( bald on top, long at back) and slight moustache dark, of delicate appear- ance, speaks English fluently; dress, black morning coat suit, bowler hat or tweed cap. Warrant issued. 2 — F Division.— For embezzling £ 1 6s. 6d., 9th February last— THOMAS BROCK, age 32, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes brown, heavy moustache dark, scar on bridge of nose ; dress, dark reefer jacket and vest, light striped trousers, light grey soft felt hat. An artist. Warrant issued. 3.— F Division.— For obtaining £ 50 by false pretences— G. H. F. HARVEY, age 48, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes grey, clean shaved, scar on left jaw, slightly bow- legged ; dress, light grey tweed suit, black and white check cap. Warrant issued. 4.— K Division. — For larceny ( bailee), 30th ult.— KILMAN ACKERMAN, a Jew, age about 33, height 5 ft. G or 7 in., stiff build, com- plexion fresh, hair, moustache and eyes dark ; dress, dark covert coat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat, usually carries an umbrella or grey mackintosh. He obtained a quantity of furniture on the hire purchase system, which he afterwards sold. Warrant issued. 5.— N Division.— For embezzling 10s., 13th March last— MARSHALL IDENDEN, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache light; wearing dark clothes, black hard felt hat. A native of London. Warrant issued. 6.— S Division. — For embezzling £ 3 8s. 9£ d.— JOHN BATH, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair ( curly at sides and front) light, eyes blue ; dress, blue serge jacket suit, grey tweed cap. ANTRIM. 7.— Belfast City).— For stealing £ 17, the monies of His Majesty's Postmaster General— WILLIAM HOLMES, age 54, height 5 ft. 11 in., rough red face, long prominent nose, hair ( cut short) and slight moustache grey, large hands and body, thin legs, flat feet, slightly round shoulders, wearing a loose blue serge overcoat, straw hat. Was employed as doorkeeper at the Belfast Post Office. Warrant issued. Information to District Inspector Morrell, Royal Irish Constabulary, Belfast. BERKSHIRE. 8.— Newbury { County).— For stealing, 16th inst., a silver lever watch, small metal chain attached; and for obtaining food, lodgings, and 6s. by false pretences— A MA? T, t> s> t. about 23, height 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair and slight moustache dark, front teeth decayed ; dress, dark suit and cap, cycling shoes, had with him a bicycle. He takes lodgings, com- mits a larceny and decamps. Is identical with MAN, Case No. 42,17th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Robotham, Newbury. 9.— Wokingham ( County).— For stealing, 23rd inst., a light brown wooden box, 34 in. by 18 in. ; a lady's pneumatic bicycle, front forks bent; 1 pair of blue and white vases— CHARLIE SIMPSON, alias NASH, age 20, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion very dark, hair ( curly on fore- head) black, slight moustache dark, eyes dark; dress, light grey jacket and vest, dark large ribbed cord breeches, navy blue cloth cap, black leather leggings, brown lace boots. A groom ; native of Hampshire. Was accompanied by a woman, age 34, height 4 ft. 6 to 8 in., complexion ( freckled) fair, hair light brown; dress, black dress, black straw hat, trimmed black, lace boots. A native of Finchampstead ; and a child, age 7 years, com- plexion fair, hair light, ejes grey; dress, white dress, navy blue jacket, white buttons, white straw hat with pink band, lace boots. BREC ONSHIRE •> 10.— Crickhowell ( County). — For obtain- ing by false pretences a silver watch ( recovered), — SMITH, age 45 to 50, height 5 feet 4 or 5 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin features, hair inclined to sandy, slight moustache light, eyes supposed brown, of haggard appear- ance; dress, dark £ coat and vest, dark grey trousers, black bow tie, black hard felt hat, flat top, carried an old black bag, and a walking stick or umbrella. He represents that he is employed by a local watchmaker, obtains watches for repair, and decamps, is believed to be identical with man Case No. 24,1st March last, and Case No. 32, 26th ult. CA MB RIDGESHIRE. 12.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 16th inst., an " Osmond Road Racer " bicycle, 24 in. frame, black enamelled, usually parts plated, dropped handle bars, nearly new, plain tyres, bell and lamp attached— GEORGE CARR, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion sallow, full face, hair dark, clean shaved, hands slightly deformed; wearing naval uniform, " H. M. S. Revenge" on cap. Stated he had served on H. M. S. " Powerful" and that he was present at the Relief of Ladysmith. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Holland, Cam- bridge. D." in red silk thereon ; 1 black hard felt hat— FREDERICK HOUGH, alias GORDON, age 18 or 19, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, enlarged glands left side neck ; wearing the stolen suit and hat, necker- chief, lace boots. A native of Hyde, near Manchester. Was employed as manager to a bill posting company. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Liscard. 15.— Nantwich ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) lis.— THOMAS HAMPSON, age about 18, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown ; dress, grey vest, dark trousers, dark peak cap, lace boots; a native of Ashton- under- Lyne. CUMBERLAND. 16.— Carlisle ( County).— For disobeying an order made under the ( Married Women) Act, 1895 — JONATHAN WATSON, age about 47, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, oval face, hair ( bald on top) and beard on end of chin grey, eyes blue. A farm labourer ; native of Renwick. Has been employed on public works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Graham, Carlisle. DORSETSHIRE. 17.— Dorchester ( County).— For deserting his wife, leaving her chargeable to the Dorchester Union— JAMES HUGH SLADE, age 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion, hair, and eyes dark, slightly lame ; dress, dark jacket, brown trousers, hard hat. A carpenter and wheelwright; native of Broadwindsor. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Burden, Dorchester. 18.— 1Weymouth ( Borough,).— For stealing, 14th or 15th inst., a silver watch, key winding, " Plan Watch" and " J. Cox" on inside of outer case, a silver curb pattern chain attached; and 5s. 6d. — A MAN, who gave the name of LEONARD TOMS, age about 24, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., hair light, clean shaved; wearing bandsman's uniform of the Gloucestershire Regiment, sometimes wears a dust coat. Stated he had been wounded in South Africa and that he had just left Netley Hospital. He left behind a field service cap, " No. 5558 " thereon. Absconded 15th inst. Warrant issued. No. 21583, Brooks's B 10 saddle— A MAN, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, com- plexion fresh, round face, hair and slight mous- tache dark ; dress, dark jacket and vest, light trousers, dark cap. Frogley, Hemel Hemp- stead. 21.— Hertford ( County).— On commitment warrants for assault on police, disorderly conduct and refusing to quit licensed premises— GEORGE MATTHEWS, age 25, height 5 ft, 9 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( cut short with fringe in front) brown, eyes hazel; dress, dark jacket and vest, light trousers, coloured silk wrapper, light cap, brown boots, wearing a silver buckle ring. A native of Hatfield. Escaped from custody 25th inst. Information to Supt. Shore, Hertford. 22.— Ware ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, between 19th ult. and 3rd inst., at Buntingford— F. BURNS ( sup- posed false), age 68, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, stoops slightly, complexion dark, aquiline nose, hair ( thin and slightly bald), moustache and beard grey, eyes ( left glass) brown, 3rd and 4th right fingers contracted; dress, dark tweed jacket suit with thin white stripes, dark Chesterfield overcoat, brown soft felt hat, brown spats, lace shoes. A native of Norwich. He stated that he was a colonel in the army, and that he was eiqjiloyed by the War Office to survey the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Duke, Ware. 23.— St. Albans ( City).— For embezzlement — WILLIAM EDWARD BARD KN, age 30, height 5 ft. 4£ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, feminine voice, scar right elbow, back of right hand and back of head. Appearance of a stableman. Native of Hastings. Was sentenced to 4 months imprisonment at Watford, 18th September, 1900, for larceny ( bailee). Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Blatch, St. Albans. KENT. 24. — Ashford ( County). — HENRY ALFRED HINKLEY, Case No. 26, 17th inst., not now wanted. Warrant withdrawn. 25.— Canterbury ( County).— For leaving his children chargeable to the common fund of the Blean Poor Law Union— ALFRED DAWES, age 37 or 38, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, thin face, several pock marks thereon, sunken cheeks, hair and eyes dark brown ; dress, black diagonal suit, black hard felt hat with mourning band, usually wears a piece of blue ribbon in his coat. A painter and house decorator. Speaks at gospel meetings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jacobs, County Police Office, Canterbury. 26.— Folkestone ( Borough).— For stealing, 21st inst., a silver watch and chain ( recovered)— A MAN who gave the name of ZENO KOHL- MAN, a Dane, age about 22, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair brown, clean shaved, rather flat feet; dress, dark brown mixture suit, black hard felt hat with broad brim, old lace boots. Stated he was a photo- grapher. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Reeve, Folke- stone. LANARKSHIRE. 27.— Hamilton ( Burgh)— For culpable homi- cide, 25th inst.— A MAN, age about 23, height 5 ft. 6 to 8 in., hair brown, clean shaved, large burn mark back of one hand, speaks with Scotch accent; dress, blue serge jacket suit, regatta shirt, check cap. Supposed a miner. Information to Chief Constable Millar, Hamil- ton, N. B. LANCASHIRE. 28. — Liverpool ( City). — For stealing a lady's 3- stone diamond ring ( recovered) ; and a single stone diamond ring, split shank, weight of I diamond cts., makers initials " T. P." inside and " 68443 " scratched inside— A MAN, who gave the name of E. VODICKA, age about 25, height 5 ft. 5 in., well built, square shoulders, complexion rather pale, hair dark, moustache light, speaks broken English ; dress, square cut navy blue jacket, dark trousers and vest. Information to the Head Constable, Detective Department, Liverpool. 29.— Bootle ( Borough).— For stealing, be- tween 1st April and 7th inst., a lady's 9 ct. gold neckchain, small links, gold heart shape pendant, with cluster of diamonds one side, attached ; 1 round silver brooch, set two rows of brilliants ; 1 18 et. gold brooch, shape of a true lover's knot; 1 lady's 18 ct. gold ring, set turquoise ( one turquoise a slightly different shade from others) ; a quantity of white and cream coloured Honiton lace ( including a dress front Y shape, and a collar), and £ 2 6s. 8d.— ELIZABETH ROBERTS, age 30, height 5 ft., complexion pale, hair red; dress, supposed black jacket, light blue dress, black sailor hat. A domestic servant. Absconded 7th inst. Will probably call at Rescue Homes of the Salvation Army. Information to the Chief Constable, Bootle. 30.— Clitheroe ( Borough).— For stealing a gold watch ( recovered)— ISRAEL SHORROCKS, alias HARDING ( supposed false), age about 50, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache turning grey, scar on right side chin, right wrist, flesh lump about 3 in. long on left side, anchor tattooed on right arm, supposed a basket of flowers on left arm, right arm disabled ; dress, black coat, dark vest, light trousers and cap, may be wearing brown fustian trousers. Stated he had been invalided home from South Africa, and recently discharged from Netley Hospital. Information to Chief Constable Clayton, Clitheroe. 31.— Warrington ' Borough).— For bigamy — WILLIAM BROMLEY, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion dark, hair ( thin on top) dark brown, turning grey, moustacke sandy, large red mark over right eyebrow, blue scar on bridge of nose, of smart appearance. A puddler or fitter, is believed to have served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Talbot, War- rington. MONTGOMERYSHIRE. £ 2 REWARD. 32.— Newtown ( County).— For deserting his wife and family— JAMES DODD, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey. A blacksmith; native of Shrewsbury. May be found on public works. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the GuardiaMS of the Newtown and Llanidloes Union, to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Dodd. Information to the Chief Constable of Mont- gomeryshire, Newtown. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 33. — Wellingborough ( County). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 8th and 9th ult.— WALTER JEFFREYS, age about 18, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes brown ; dress, dark grey tweed ( double- breasted) jacket, white breeches, brown leather leggings, black hard felt hat, may be wearing a light dust coat. A tramping groom. Native of Mascott, near Daventry. Warrant issued. 34.— Wellingborough ( County). — For stealing, 6th inst., a lady's silver Geneva watch, No. 1137451, flowered dial, engraved back, and a 9 ct. gold curb pattern chain— JACK ALLEN, alias HERRING, age about 36, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion, hair, thick moustache, and eyes dark, bow legged; dress, dark jacket and vest, light check trousers, blue muffler with white spots, dark cap, carried a leather apron. A tramping blacksmith. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Alexander, Welling- borough. SHROPSHIRE. 35.— Bridgnorth ( County)— For stealing, 12th inst., a pair of steps ( recovered)— THOMAS BROMLEY, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 10 in., red face, hair ( cut short) light brown or sandy ( turn- ing grey), whiskers and moustache about 3 weeks' growth, dark sandy, eyes usually red or bloodshot; dress, dark jacket, dark cardigan do., black vest, brown cord trousers, dark grey cap, lace boots, all old; a native of Shrewsbury. He obtains employment at farm houses, and stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Walters, Bridgnorth. TUESDAY, JUNE - 219, 1901. M. prison, Hollowav, between 11th and 12th inst., while awaiting trial for housebreaking — CHARLES WALTER MARSH, alias CHARLES PASCIILOW, Reg. No. 12619 M., a German, ( nearly bald) dark, moustache brown, large bunion on right big toe, walks heavier with left foot than with right, is fond of betting; dress, when last seen, grey jacket suit and cap. A sorting clerk and telegraphist, The photograph was taken about 10 years ago. Warrant issued. • Information to the Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. DURHAM. inst., and No. 65,10th inst. Is believed to have been previously convicted, and his antecedents are required for information of the Court. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office. New Scotland Yard, S. W. in speech ; wears a light drab covert coat and black hard felt hat, sometimes a dark overcoat and silk hat. A native of Aberdeen. Warrant issued. age 26, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion pale, hair light, eyes grey, mole front of right shoulder, cut scar left eyebrow, 2 moles front of left forearm, scar right groin, is suffering from venereal disease, walks with a quick step ; dress, dark grey Raglan overcoat, blue serge jacket, fancy vest, dark striped trousers, dark grey soft felt hat, button boots. Is an expert bicycle thief. Information to be forwarded to the Metro- politan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W.
