Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a numler. and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to h inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so us to be rcceirid not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must he clcarly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, anil accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Aew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post, Office. 13. The following is a copy of the older which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detection of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which some- times occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regula- tions in force in the Metropolis :— 1.— Prints hand- bills, or other adveitisements, offering a reward for the discovery ol property or the detcetfwr of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibite 1. with the sanction of the Commis- sioners, on the applicatio I o£ private persons, or ol' the Police of aDy County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points :— ( « ) i he amount of the reward. ( 5) The child it ions on which it is payable. ( c) The name and address of the person by whom it will be paid. ( rf) • he name and address of the printer must appear thereon. 2.— No exmcssion must be used in such an advertisement, in relation to | roperty stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holdiue out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. Attention is particularlydirected to the conditions ( a) to ( d), clause 1, as Police Notices are constantly being received by the Metropolitan Police in which the conditions mentioned have not been complied with, especially those marked ( a) and ( c).
