All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE. NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerniity- fi/ ersoiis whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they arc sufficient to enable action to be taken uvon them, by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in quest/ ton to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the mine and address of some j) erson responsible for the payment m ust be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. o. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a. cost of 15.*. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required' to be inserted and iw warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far us practicable, they are alphabetically arranged, by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the num ber of the annou/ nc& ment, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon ofi Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one aide of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on pay mod, and the charges for the insertion of the same toill be given on application. R. ANDERSON. Editor. NOTICE. 1. Cities and Boroughs therein, arranged in alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond the number at present supplied will be forwarded on application in the form set forth in eircular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It is particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. SPECIAL NOTICE. The amount of stolen property at present " circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Informationsand Pawnbrokers' Listsof all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion " of the particulars they contain is not desired. The same course will be followed with respect to property lost and persons missing. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1.— Convict Supervision Office. Escaped from H. M. Prison, Borstal, at 7.30 a. m., 30th ult, — WILLIAM HENRY SOAR, alias JOHN CONROY, Office No. 2902- 98, age 36, height 5 ft. 7^ in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, tattooed anchor back right and " C. D., 1883," back left hand, anchor and " W. S." left forearm, ring 3rd left finger, 1th and 5th left toes deformed. A plasterer ; native of Ipswich. Sentenced at Ipswich Borough Quarter Sessions, 8tli April, 1899, to 5 years penal servitude for burglary— HENRY KING, alias HENRY JOHN KING ' and HENRY STEWART, Office No. 818- 99, age 27, height 5 ft. 8J in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar right of fore- head, nose inclined to right, brown birthmark small of back and left thigh, " H. K." and blue line right forearm. A carman : native of London. Sentenced at South London Sessions, 12th July, 1899, to years penal servitude and 3 years supervision for housebreaking. At time of escape both were wearing drab jacket, vest, anil breeches marked with broad arrow, blue stockings striped with red. 2.— C Division. — For obtaining f' 2 by false pretences, 14th ult.— MARTIN DOUGLAS, age 23 to 25, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache light ; dress, light colour covert coat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat. He advertises for a lady housekeeper, and forwards to applicants a printed guarantee pro- posal form which is to be filled up and returned, together with the sum of £ 2, which purports to be the premium for a £ 200 policy. The address of the Guarantee Society to which the amount is to be forwarded, is invariably a newspaper shop. Warrant issued. 3.— T Division.— For personating a Police officer— F. CROONDALE HALES, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, thin face, hair and moustache ( pointed at ends) light, eyes blue, of military appearance; dress, brown jacket suit, brown double- breasted overcoat, black hard felt hat. A native of Ramsgate. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CARDIGANSHIRE. 4.— Aberystwyth ( County).— For desert- ing his wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the Tregaron Union— JAMES CAMERON, age 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., broad shoulders, com- plexion fresh, hair brown, heavy moustache, eyes blue, joints of right forefinger stiff. A painter ; native of Dundee. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Phillips, Aberystwyth. £ 2 REWARD. 5.— Llandyssul { County). — For leaving his wife and family chargeable to the Aberayron Union— BENJAMIN GREEN, age 26, height 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair and mous- tache light, eyes ( small) blue, rather long pointed nose, ship, & c., tattooed on arms, dog's head on back of one hand, BG right leg. A farm labourer : native of Derby. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the above- named Union for such information as will lead to the arrest of Green. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Williams, Llandyssul. CARNARVONSHIRE. 6.— Conway ( County).— For leaving their wives and families chargeable to the Conway Union— ELIAS WILLIAMS, alias FAWR, age 45, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, hair, moustache, and Bide whiskers ( turning grey) dark, eyes dark brown ; dress, blue jacket and vest, cord trousers. A native of Glancon way, Denbigh. Has been previously convicted. May be accompanied by a girl.— HENRY JONES, age 34, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair dark, moustache ( curled at ends) brown, eyes blue, " H. J." tattooed on left forearm, " Allen " on right forearm, walks erect; dress, blue jacket, brown cord vest, cord trousers, sailor's cap with glazed peak. A native of Yard Malthraeth, Anglesey. Has served in the Army. Warrants issued. 7.— Conway ( County).— For leaving his wife chargeable to the Conway Union since 17th August, 1893— DAVID JONES, age 56 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, beard and moustache ( turning grey) sandy, eyes grey, slight impediment in speech, front teeth decayed," D. J." tattooed back of right hand. A native of Penmaenmawr. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rees, Conway. CHESHIRE. S.— Liscard ( County).— For obtaining a bicycle by false pretences— ARTHUR HURST, age 23, height about 5 ft 7 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair light brown, eyes grey ; dress, grey tweed suit, fawn colour covert coat, cap. A joiner ; native of Macclesfield. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Liscard. DENBIGHSHIRE. 9.— Denbigh ( County).— For sheep stealing at Ruthin— ANDREW POOLE, age about 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion ruddy, full round face, hair dark, whiskers and moustache ( inclined to sandy) brown, eyes hazel, mole on head, stoops slightly, slovenly gait; dress, grey tweed suit, black hard felt hat. A farmer ; native of Torhousemoor, Wigtown. Absconded 1st inst. . May endeavour to leave the country. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. . ( i in., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes blue, thick lips, large mouth, coal marks on forehead, high cheek bones. A collier. Warrant issued. FORFARSHIRE. 11.— Dundee ( City).— For obtaining £ 50 by a forged cheque, 2'.( th September, 1900 — ALEX- ANDER RAMSAY, age 36, height 6 ft., com- plexion ruddy, hair ( bald on top), and moustache reddish brown, eyes blue, limps ; dress, dark grey tweed three- quarter overcoat, bluish grey jacket and vest, tweed trousers ( greyish herring- bone stripe and narrow black stripe alternately), black felt hat, blue corded silk tie, lace boots. A native of Dundee ; has been employed as a potato mer- chant's agent. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Dewar, Dundee. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 12.- Bristol ( City)— For stealing £ 19 17s. 5d. — ERNEST CHARLES MOHUN, age 39, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion sallow, hair, moustache, and pointed beard dark ; dress, blue serge lounge suit, dark grey three- quarter overcoat, silk facings, black bowler hat. A commission agent; native of Ipswich. Is well known at Southampton, Cardiff, Bath, and London. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 13.— Gosport ( County).— For stealing, 1th inst., from the R. M. L. I. Barracks, at Forton, £ 100 ( including 8 £ 5 notes, Nos. 38890, 38761, 38908, 37001, 38910, 38895, 38889, and 38899)— THOMAS PEARMAN, age 40, height 5 ft. 6f in., complexion fresh, round red face, hair brown, moustache ginger, eyes ( rather small) blue, short quick step; dress, black diagonal coat and vest, ilark grey trousers and cap, had with him a black mackintosh. Was employed in the officers' mess. Absconded 4th inst. Information to Supt. Silver, Gosport. HERTFORDSHIRE. It — Bishops Stortford ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences, about 19th ult.— MRS. WILLIAMS, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair light, fiat nose, front teeth missing; wearing a red dress. She travels the country accompanied by a man who hawks games, & c., at public houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Bishops Stortford. Vo.— Hemel Hempstead ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— CYRIL B. CUTLER, age 32, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, had 2 hempen halters tied around waist. Supposed identical with CYRIL CUTLER, Case No. 1, 16tli ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Frogley, Hemel Hempstead. 16.— Ware ( County). — For obtaining money by false pretences — JAMES MORRIS, alias JAMES THOMPSON, age 48, height 5 ft. 31 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top), moustache and side whiskers sandy, eyes blue, scar back of left hand and centre of forehead, birthmark back of neck, mole on chest, hairy mole on breast; dress, dark clothes, hard felt hat. He collects alms by means of a book, which purports to bear the names of the principal residents of the neighbourhood. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Duke, Ware. KENT. 17- Canterbury ( County).— For neglect- ing his live children— HERBERT WATERS, age 37, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; dress, blue serge jacket, dark tweed trousers, wrapper, peak cap. A mariner ; native of Whitstable. Is accompanied by his SON, age 12. Warrant issued. 18.- Canterbury ( County) — For stealing a dark tweed box cloth shooting coat, " Scanelbury and Common, Regent Street, London," on tab, may have " Edward Corbett" thereon ; 1 gold pin, Staffordshire knot shape; and £ 10 — LION HACNNI, an Italian, age 20, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, spots on face, speak broken English; dress, green grey coat, black trousers, felt hat, patent leather button boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jacobs, County Police Office, Canterbury. VJ.— Sandgate ( Courdy).— For forging and uttering a cheque for £ 12 10s. Od— GEORGE SYLVESTER, age 35, height 5 ft. 84 in., com- plexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes ( sunken) hazel, small scar left cheek, hook nose, forehead and chin prominent, slightly bow- legged, walks badly; drees, dark square- cut suit, brown New- market coat, skull cap. A native of Gainsborough, Lincoln. Is a deserter from the 7th Dragoon Guards. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hollands, Sandgate. 20— Sandwich ( County).— For obtaining money by worthless cheques at Deal— HARRY NESBITT JAMES, alias HENRY DODD ROSS, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 7 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, eyes full; dress, long black overcoat, dark suit, grey soft hat, cap, or black hard felt hat, carried a small black handbag.— ARTHUR JOHN POTT, age about 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light brown ; wears a fawn colour overcoat and black hard felt hat or skull cap. A native of Deal. They represent that James is about to hire a large house in the town, induce publicans to cash cheques for them and abscond. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Chaney, Sandwich. 21.— Dover Borough).— For stealing ( bailee) 27th ult., an " Atlanta" bicycle, Jouhel gear, free wheel, dropped handle bars. Palmer tyres, back tyre scrapetl, no mudguards— F. DODDS, age 26, height 5 ft. 10 in., short body, complexion pale, hair brown, eyes hazel, toes slightly clawed. Is a gunner of the Royal Artillery. Warrant issued. LANCASHIRE. 22.— Bolton ( Borough).— For stealing £ 15, 23rd ult.— HARRY BUCKLEY, alias DERRY, age about 27, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, girl tattooed on one arm ; dress, blue cloth military uniform, " Hamilton's Excursion" on collar, gold colour stripes to trousers, dark grey double- breasted overcoat, bone buttons, soft felt hat, shoes. A theatrical agent. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Town Hall, Bolton. 23.— Burnley ( Borough).— For embezzle- ment— GEORGE CHARLES PHILLIPS, age 45, height 5 ft. 9} in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( turning grey) brown, eyes blue, walks erect; dress, dark green jacket suit, black three- quarter overcoat, hard felt hat, lace boots, carried a small brown leather bag. An ex- sergeant of the Medical Staff Corps. Native of Surrey. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Harrop, Burn- ley. LINCOLNSHIRE. 24.— Lincoln ( City).— For obtaining £ 3 10s. 3d. by a worthless cheque on Barclay & Co., Man- ningtree. on 10th ult.— A MAN, giving the name of C. FENTON, of Colchester and Manningtree, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., broad set, com- plexion dark ; dress, dark overcoat and trousers, greyish tweed cap, carried a small black hand bag. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Mansell, Lin- coln. NORTHAMPTONSHI RE. 25.— Kettering ( County).— For larceny ( bailee)— GEORGE HOCKEY, ' age 37, height 5 ft. 3| in., stiff build, complexion pale, hair brown, moustache dark brown, eyes blue; dress, blue serge or black jacket and trousers, fancy vest, stand- up collar, black hard felt hat, " Bell and Campbell, Kettering," supposed inside; of smart appearance. A tailor. Warrant issued. 26.— Kettering ( County).— For obtaining 5s. by false pretences, 5th ult.— A MAN, age about 47, height 6 ft. 1 or 2 in., hair brown, moustache grey, very long thin neck, drooping shoulders, speaks with Irish accent; dress, brown suit, hard felt hat. He represents himself as an Inspector in the employ of the Railway Company and collects money for an employee whom he states has been severely injured. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrews, Kettering. STAFFORDSHIRE. 10s. REWARD. 27.— Longton ( County).— Absconded, 28th ult. from Werrington Industrial School— HARRY HARPER, age 14, height 4 ft. 9 in., complexion pale, hair ( very short) dark brown ; dress, reddish brown sailor cut jacket, blue and black striped trousers, blue socks, black and white scarf. A native of Wolverhampton. The above reward will be paid by the Superin- tendent, Werrington Industrial School, for such information as will lead to the arrest of Harper. 10s. REWARD. 28. - Longton ( County).— For absconding from Werrington Industrial School, 20th ult.— JAMES EGERTON, age 15, height 4 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey^ left little finger injured; dress, brown jacket, cord trousers, dark jersey and cap. The above reward will be paid by the Superin- tendent, Werrington Industrial School, to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Egerton. Information to Supt. Bakewell, Longton. 2$. Stoke - upon - Trent ( County).— For stealing a lady's gold coloured metal keyless lever watch, engraved back, No 3269509; and a quantity of wearing apparel— Expiree HENRY JOHNSON, alias GEORGE BURGESS and THOMAS WILSON, Office No. 1159- 97, age 51, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, large abscess scar right side of neck, scar outside right and inside left knee, 2 scars outside left knee, brown mole left of chest and inside right forearm, scar left of back, point of left elbow, between 1st and 2nd joints of left thumb, and back of 1st joint left 4th finger, right ankle enlarged ; dress, black suit, light cloth cap, usually wears a light dust coat. Has been con- victed at Knutsfonl, Chester and Stafford. Last sentenced at Stafford Assizes, 10th December, 1891, to 7 years penal servitude for burglary. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gilbride, Stoke- upon- Trent. 30.— Wolverhampton ( Borough). — For forging and uttering a cheque for £ 19 2s. 6d.— R. CAIN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair short, slight moustache dark, stoops ; dress, light brown over- coat, bluish grey trousers, light muffler, black hard felt hat ( low crown), brown lace boots. Of horsey appearance. He called at a harness makers and purchased a saddle, tendered a cheque for the above amount and received the balance. Warrant issued. Information to Captain Burnett, Chief Con- stable, Wolverhampton. SURREY. 31.— Guildford ( County). — For deserting his wife and children— WILLIAM EDWARD WHITTLE, age 42, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair dark brown, moustache ( turning grey) brown, eyes hazel, " W. E. W." and anchor tattooed on one fore- arm ; carries his head slightly forward ; wearing dark serge coat and vest, lace boots. Warrant issued Information to Deputy Chief Constable Page, Guildford. SUSSEX ( East). 32.— Hail sham ( County).— For stealing, 26tli nit., £ 28 10s., and a silver Albert, curb pattern, long links in centre— FRED TRAVERS, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, com- plexion fresh, full face, hair dark brown, slight moustache ginger, eyes dark ; dress, long brown overcoat, dark plaid jacket and vest, dark trousers and cap. Army boots. A native of London. Warrant issued. 33.— Hailsham ( County).— For larceny and assault ou police, 26th and 29th ult. respectively — EDWIN WILSON, age 26, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, eyes grey, shamrock, 2 flags, and crossed swords tattooed right forearm ; wearing new cord trousers, brown peak cap with ear- flaps. A labourer ; native of Eastbourne. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Willard, Hailsham. 34 — Haywards Heath ( County). — For obtaining credit by fraud, 25th and 26th ult.— SOPHIA or ANNIE WATSON, age about 40, rather tall, complexion florid, hair with fringe on forehead auburn ; dress, black bodice and skirt, short black jacket, imitation sealskin cape, large black velvet hat with 2. black plumes and buckle, gold bracelet on both wrists, carried a brown leather handbag. Was accompanied by TWO BOYS, age 11 and 13, wearing red jackets, fawn colour overcoats and caps, lace boots. She takes furnished lodgings, and obtains credit from tradesmen. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Smith, Haywards Heath. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7, '. 900. PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. AYRSHIRE. 35.— Muirkirk ( County).— For embezzling £ 8 14s. 9d.— CHARLES TURNER, age60, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair and long moustache grey, plausible address ; dress, brown tweed ulster with cape, dark grey jacket suit, tweed cap, carried a walking stick with dog's- head handle. A painter. Stated he had lived in London 35 years, and had been employed on the stage for about 4 years. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 36.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing £ 500— ROBERT FIELD, age 44, height 5 ft, 7 in., inclined to stoop, complexion sallow, thin face, rather prominent jaws, hair ( turning grey) black, thin on temples, clean shaved, may be growing a beard and moustache, prominent forehead, large ears, short nose with broad flat bridge, right shoulder higher than left, left hand smaller than right, fingers webbed nearly to first joint, slouch- ing gait, usually dressed in dark clothes and bowler hat. Of horsey appearance. A bank manager. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. — Aldershot ( County).— For stealing the property described in Case No. 84, 23rd ult. ( recovered)— ROBERT BLOOM, age 33, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, rather long face, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, Roman nose, one tooth missing and one project- ing in upper jaw; dress, black jacket, white breeches, jack boots with yellow tops, straw hat. A coachman ; native of Norwich. Has served in the 4th Hussars. May be found working at livery stables. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot.
